    37 yo cedar deck

I invited 4 different contractors to offer their solutions regarding how to repair a complex sloping problem w/ on older deck. None of them offered a solution I was entirely confident with. Ken (co-owner of Chase Remodeling & Concrete) came out on Thur and suggested a novel idea I had confidence in. Ken & his son Justin (no laborers) arrived on Sat and completed the job in an astonishing 5 hrs. Equally impressive is they handpicked all the building materials personally instead of having them delivered. We had Ken & Justin back on Sun to complete 2 other projects. Ken has over 30 yrs experience building homes, remodeling interiors, building decks, inspecting homes, pouring cement driveways, and more. He's been there - done that. We're delighted we found him and would refer him to family & friends. See the photo's below. Seeing is believing.

Ken Foster of Hutto, Texas did some remodel work for me. He left owing me money and never came back.

During the quoting process, tasks that appeared to require only 15 minutes were routinely estimated and billed at 30 minutes. Several very simple tasks were quoted at around $300 for 30 minutes of labor, which equates to approximately $600 per hour. Concerned by the pricing, I called the owner for clarification (Anthony Hunter). He stated their rate was $275 per hour, but also explained that they bill using detailed line items. Based on the estimate we received, the effective hourly cost was significantly higher than what we consider reasonable or competitive for this type of work. My issue is not with Nick personally, he was professional, but with the pricing model and the way the estimate was structured. The quote we received was dramatically higher than market and left me with little confidence that the billing practices are transparent or customer-focused. I would encourage anyone considering this company to obtain multiple quotes and carefully review all line items before proceeding. Similar companies charge $100-$200/hour - this pricing model is egregious. These are not lawyers, this is run of the mill handy-man work.

Avi was an absolutely delight. Fast, clear communication before the initial meeting. Very thoughtful approach in our initial meeting. So many images from their highly impressive portfolio to help us think through options. Excellent examples of communication and workflow from previous projects. Instantly ready to share previous customers we could reach out to for references. A really good balance between sharing his ideas for our project, but also really listening to our feedback on what we wanted/invisoned. All the right insights for how to keep us in budget, and very generous with (we can add this/that for little/no extra costs since we're already doing XYZ). We mainly requested a bid on two projects (Kitchen and Primary Bathroom) and help deciding the scope for the remainder of our projects (Flooring, Guest Bath, Office, Patio, Etc.). We were very impressed with how realistic, but also open-minded he was with what portion of our "bonus" projects we could fit in. The formal quote came in fast after our initial meeting, was easy to follow, and fairly priced. Found the proposed timeline to be very well balanced for efficiency vs realism. Appreciated the suggestions provided for if we should/could "live-in" during the remodel vs. a timeline that would allow the bulk of the work to overlap with a time that we were going to be out of town already. Also insights on what it would be worth "buying in advance" to take advantage of sales, even if the actual work was delayed. We got a few quotes and would have felt confident moving forward with any of them when the time came, but the quality of their portfolio and Avi's attentive listening definitely put Teamwork Home Designs at the top of the list. Can't wait to work with them in the future.

In any event, I hesitated to write a review because Shaked was nice to work with and incredibly responsive, but we are still having issues with the work that was done. The most annoying of which is the constant smell from the kitchen sink island. Our kitchen was gutted and everything installed was brand new. A week or so after install, I noticed a moldy, wet, dank smell coming from the sink, dishwasher and surrounding island cabinets (where a large group of pipes feeds into the foundation). Shaked and the plumber remarked that the disposal probably needed to be cleaned. The disposal and everything associated with the kitchen were brand new - they did not need to be cleaned - but we cleaned them anyways. I let this go because my husband didn't really smell anything and I wanted to be optimistic. Well, it's two years later and now EVERYONE in the house can smell this musty dank smell!! We have troubleshooted the dishwasher, the disposal, the p-traps, etc. and are having another plumber investigate. We will likely have to redo part of the island to discover the cause of the smell and it's incredibly frustrating that we can't host because our kitchen smells gross! There were additional issues. A couple months after we started using our newly remodeled kitchen, we heard a loud bang and noticed that the disposal completely detached from the sink! I contacted Shaked and he said something along the lines of - this is normal. Ummmm, No! I've never in my entire life had a disposal fall out from under a sink. He begrudgingly sent the plumber to reset it. It started to come loose again not long after their plumber reinstalled it. Ultimately, my husband DIY'd the install after watching a Youtube video. It's been fine since my husband installed it. Lets see, there was a leak around the base of a newly installed toilet. The toilet needed to be reinstalled. The floating master bath tub was caulked with the wrong product so it looked gross a month or so after install - and continues to look gross because we can't get the substance off. The heated floor wiring was cut during install of the bathroom floors, despite it having an alarm system to alert to said issue. After a lot of back and forth and troubleshooting (on my end), Shaked's team ultimately agreed to remove most of the flooring to reinstall with new wiring. The flooring on the stairs looks sketch to put it nicely. The wall paneling at the base of the kitchen island is wavy and disjointed - looks like a DIY project. The trim on the French doors leading to the master bedroom keeps falling off. Etc. etc. etc. Things they did well - tiling! The tile work from these folks looks amazing! Communication - Shaked was extremely responsive and did his best to address issues as they arose. They were helpful - a pipe burst during the freeze while the house was being remodeled and Shaked sent his plumber to repair quickly and without charge! They happily made changes and didn't really every charge extra which was refreshing. Despite being smelly, the kitchen LOOKS amazing! Overall, enjoyed working with Shaked and his team but not pleased with some of the results. ETA - For what it's worth, my husband thinks they deserve a 4 star review.

Their team maintained consistent communication throughout the project, providing weekly updates on progress and any potential challenges. I finished a bathroom remodel with Koren and Daniel in March 2025. The process of getting there was painful in terms of communication and steering, but at least the shiny new bathroom they initially delivered was not bad. However, in September 2025 the shower tiles started popping out of the floor. I texted them and they had to come in and replace it. Okay maybe it was a one-off. But then less than a year later, by April 2026 the *replaced* tiles started popping out again. I tried dealing with it myself with tile glue, but other tiles kept popping out. I texted them again in August, and this time they said that they stand behind their work for only one year from the original project date, and I need to pay $1200 if I want them to fix it. Notice that it hasn't been 1 year even from the replacement date. It's really not worth it. Go with the slightly more expensive contractor they will do the job right once and for all.

Koren was super pleasant to work with all around. Fast, clear communication before the initial meeting. We had requested a bid on two main projects (Kitchen and Primary Bathroom) and help deciding the scope for the remainder of our projects (Flooring, Guest Bath, Office, Patio, Etc.). We were shocked by how much of the "bonus" projects we could fit in, and yet felt very confident with Koren's insights that these were realistically within our budget. The formal quote came in REALLY fast after our meeting, and was very easy to follow and extremely fairly priced. Was very impressed with how quickly they were ready to begin the work, and the forethought of asking us if we planned to "live-in" during the remodel vs. get an AirBNB or the like. We hadn't even thought of that. Would have been very confident in moving forward with ATX Remodeling. Especially as Koren had so many examples of the type of elaborate communication and oversight we would have at every stage of the process.
