The food was good, not excellent. We've had better meals in the past. The service was bad. No refills offered on iced tea, dirty silverware left on the table after the appetizers. The restaurant is stunning, particularly the view. The staff is friendly and the service was fast. The drinks made table side was a great touch. The food was good, but just a shade below exceptional. The lobster bisque was not velvety. It was like the cream had broken or something. It was bitter and room temperature. My daughter had the shellfish linguine. She enjoyed it. Lots of different shell fish. Not sure what the broth was but it probably involved at least 2 sticks of butter - which I found to be too much. Wife had salmon with a crab topping. It was well cooked and she enjoyed it, but it was a very small portion. I had the 18 ounce prime rib. It was good, but lacked seasoning. Nothing the salt and pepper at the table couldn't fix. Lava cake was great. Not as good as you would get at a really highend place but delicious. Yelp really needs half stars because this was a 4.5, so I'm score inflating a bit here. read more

The ambiance is light with large windows overlooking many trees with little sight of the lake or mountain tops. They have many window and booth seating with a small bar area for Happy Hour. The food was ok. Nothing to rave about. Service was horrible. Our Waitress was very diligent about helping the bartender but cared less about servicing her tables as we didn't get kids milk with the dinner until the plate was clean and she rolled her eyes when asked about it. I had to get water from the bar myself as she didn't come to check if we needed anything. I won't be recommending this restaurant and if asked, I will share my experience as written here. read more

I hate to say this but this was our worst visit to Chart House. We have been coming to this restaurant for many years and this time was a disappointment especially on Mothers Day. My wife ordered the steak medium well and I ordered the prime rib medium. When the food arrived my prime rib was just a little warm and the potatoes were a little cold, my wife's steak was seared just a little but raw on the inside through out. We ended up taking the steak home and finished cooking it our selves. Not a very good ending for Mothers Day. read more

We came on a Saturday night for our anniversary and brought our own bottle of wine and they didn't really recognize or do anything special for our anniversary nor was the waitress very attentive but it was a packed house. Food: we got the prime rib (5/5), clam crowder (5/5), Caesar salad (4/5) nothing special but you will probably be happy with it, sea bass with lobster risotto was ok (3.5/5), lava cake (4/5) my bf loved it but I thought it was a lil too sweet Ambiance (4/5) dependent on where u sit probably but typical steakhouse vibes. we got placed by the window so vibes were right with our woods view. We decided to try the Tahoe location for our 24th anniversary and were so happy that we did. From the second we walked in, we were genuinely greeted and seated. Our menus had our "Happy Anniversary " on them as well as a "Happy Anniversary " card on the table. Our server for the evening (Michael) was absolutely the best - sharing his knowledge of not only the food but also great drink recommendations. Service was excellent, especially because we were a big party. We had a tuna appetizer that was amazing and then for dinner got the caesar salad with salmon. It was delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly. The dressing was non-traditional, but still great--I think it's more of like an Italian dressing. My family and I come to this restaurant every time we visit Lake Tahoe. Every visit has been amazing except for our recent visit on 1/18. We had a fairly large party, made a reservation and hyped it up to our friends and family whose first time it was visiting the restaurant. Service -Things started off well after we got our appetizers and first round of beverages but things changed when we started to notice that our waiter did not come to our table for at least 45 minutes. No refills on water and no updates on the wait and we stayed patient especially since it was a holiday weekend. Our waiter seemed very stressed and I finally asked if someone could come check in and give us an update on our food and refill our waters and still nothing. Food -We finally received our food after 1.5 hours and 2 steaks were not cooked as requested, a fish dish was cold in the middle, 2 seafood pastas had shellfish that were completely closed and the toast to one of the dishes was completely burnt. Recovery -The last thing we wanted to do is complain but when so many things went wrong and our waiter seemed like he might need some help is when my husband went to go speak to someone about it. A manager came to our table to speak to us and his tone of voice and lack of empathy for the situation was very off putting...the owner of the restaurant even asked us what we should do to make it right...why are we (as customers) having to tell you how to do your job. For the bad experience, we figured a genuine apology was coming our way, maybe a round of drinks or a dessert on the house but all we got was 2 plates taken off our bill only because my husband asked for it to be removed, they didn't even think to do this. I truly hope no one else has this same experience here and management will look into this and do better for future guests. read more

Went for HH with my husband and son. The service was ok, not good, not horrible and the restaurant has a nice view. Both my son and husband had the fish tacos. I had the kimchi calamari and the fried avocado with shrimp ceviche. My son really enjoyed the fish tacos as did my husband but he didn't particularly care for the sauce. I shared the same sentiment about the sauce on the kimchi calamari. I loved the fry on the calamari and the vegetables but I would have much preferred having the sauce on the side. While it was good, it was bit too rich to be enjoyed for the entire appetizer. It became a bit too much after about 3-4 bites. I just had a glass of white wine but my husband had the fleur d lis and he enjoyed it. All in all I'd return for the fried avocado and shrimp ceviche and to try some other items but I wouldn't order the calamari again. read more

After enjoying dinner elsewhere, we decided to stop by Chart House for dessert before heading back to our resort. I had seen key lime pie listed on their website menu, and as a devoted fan of a good key lime pie, I was excited to try it. We sat at the bar and ordered the key lime pie and a chocolate lava cake. The bartender informed us that the lava cake takes 40 minutes, and we had no issue waiting. However, just 15 minutes later, she arrived with both desserts, explaining that the chef had an extra lava cake ready. At first, we were surprised by the quick turnaround, but as soon as we started eating, the disappointment set in. The lava cake, priced at $16, lacked any molten center--there was no "lava" to speak of. When I pointed this out, the bartender casually says, *"Yeah, that happens a lot. Corporate won't let us change the recipe."* Her response was shocking--this is supposed to be a high-end restaurant and yet they knowingly serve an overbaked lava cake without any intent to fix the issue. Having worked as a server for eight years at a high-end steakhouse, I know how important it is to get dishes right, especially desserts. If a lava cake isn't made properly, it should be replaced--not dismissed with an excuse. Guests shouldn't have to accept a poorly executed dish and be disappointed with their decision of coming in. Unfortunately, the key lime pie was also a letdown. Instead of the tangy, refreshing flavor I love, it was overwhelmingly sweet--almost unbearably so. I've had key lime pie at restaurants across the country, and this one barely deserved a score of 1 out of 10. As a baker, I have a deep appreciation for great desserts, and I believe that if a business is charging premium prices, the quality needs to match. Sadly, this was not the case at Chart House. This was my first time at the Chart House. I was with a large group of people. Service was extremely slow, but it might have been because we were a larger group. The appetizer of coconut shrimp was delicious. Most everyone in my group got the Filet. I added blue cheese butter to mine which made it divine! The food portions were small but delicious and my steak was cooked perfectly. The restaurant location was great with a view of Lake Tahoe. The dining room was quaint but very loud when busy. When you don't get the chance to go out to what is considered a high end restaurant very often you come with a level of expectation - you expect to have an over the top experience - food, beverages, ambience, views and service. I was disappointed and I feel like it wasn't worth getting dressed up this time. The highlight of the night was our waiter or host - he was incredibly friendly and helped us with questions regarding the menu and the drinks - really very well done although overpriced. The downfall - the ambiance - we had two gentlemen at the next table that thought it appropriate to speak at a volume that the entire side of the restaurant could hear while using expletives in every sentence. We thought of course the staff will say something but it was apparent that they spent $$ there and were known so it was allowed to continue while I used it as a learning lesson for my daughter that was with us. Next the food - we ordered an appetizer and a salad, one pasta dish and one fish dish which we were excited to share since it was luxurious in its description! It came and the entire portion could have been plated on a tea saucer - for $58. That led to splitting the pasta dish two ways and the salad two ways to make sure a pizza order wasn't in our future. The pasta dish just had too much garlic and the salad was underwhelming. I recommend the meatballs as an appetizer though! They were delicious! At the end the bill of $200 came and we decided eating out in Tahoe wasn't quite worth it these days - maybe if it had met the expectation this review would have been a cheerleader for luxury spending once in a while but I just can't do it. read more

SO UNEXPECTEDLY BAD! We came here to celebrate our engagement, something my fiancé told the staff ahead of time. When we arrived, they had made special menus for us, which was a great surprise. Unfortunately, the message didn't make sense and was filled with typos. We didn't care all that much but the lack of attention to detail on something that small just set the stage for the remainder of the night. We decided to go with the 'Chart your Course' 3 course dinner and the mojito flights for two. The drinks were fine but you had to pour the liquor yourself and the glasses didn't allow for that at all. For the first course of our dinner, both the salad and soup were mediocre. For our main course, we both got the steak, ordering a medium and medium rare. The biggest downfall of the night was that the prime ribs came out without a sear at all. It was like it was completely overlooked. Our waitress didn't come back around until it was completely unreasonable to ask for it to be sent back. The lava cake as our 3rd course was dry and not worth it. Overall, it was incredibly disappointing for a restaurant that tends to receive positive reviews, especially when celebrating something so big. We would never recommend this place to anyone visiting the Tahoe area. It was extremely overpriced for what you receive. You'll have a better experience elsewhere! read more

I guess I will start off with the good, since there was very little of that. Our server was awesome! She was very attentive, helpful, and overall great! Other than that, the experience was very unpleasant. To start off, we got drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. I order some passion bubbly drink I think. It was terrible. All sugar. The bartender seemed new, he had to reference the menu when I asked for the drink, it is 1 of the main drinks on the menu. I asked him how his day was going, making small talk, it's Christmas. He didn't really have much to say besides I can't wait to get out of here. I totally understand, but you know what you signed up for. It's not like they just told you yesterday that the restaurant is open on Christmas. I'll fast forward to my main dish. I got the surf and turf. I asked for medium rare. The steak came out rare as ever. I don't get it. On top of that I had to wait 5 minutes to eat my steak because the expo that brought it out didn't give me a steak knife. When ever visit we South Lake Tahoe, we ALWAYS stop at this location for dinner. March 28, 2026 we had dinner at 5:30 pm. Maître and our waitress were wonderful. Our food as usual was fantastic. Throughout dinner, the very tall, slim manager in our section greeted everyone sitting our section. He bypassed us like we had some exotic diesease. I thought it was very unprofessional. I have my reason on why he might have bypassed us. But I will leave that thought alone. After dinner we were greeted by another gentleman who said hello to us as we were leaving. And he said, he hoped we enjoyed out time and dinner. He was a slim gentle with a beard. Maybe he should retrain the other unprofessional manager. We truly love this restaurant, but the unprofessional manager should amend his ways. The 5 stars is for the food and the friendly staff that dealt with us. read more

Went out for our anniversary dinner last night at The Chart House in Lake Tahoe. Dinner was fabulous. Our server Lauren did a wonderful job they even went so far as to personalize our menus and gave us the best table in the house. Our shrimp, mango, avocado tower was awesome. I had the lobster bisque, which is the second best lobster bisque I have ever had. ( we all know that mine from my cookbook is better) Marianne had a wonderful Caesar salad large portions on both. She had the salmon with rice and I had the shrimp with pancetta lemon garlic sauce with linguine again no skimping on the portions. All the food was excellent and they gave us little mini lava cakes for dessert. If I could give it more stars I would! Our meal consisted of oysters, shrimp cocktail, calamari and sea bass (with gnocchi and mushrooms). Everything was spot on, perfectly cooked, fresh and flavorful without being over seasoned. The shrimp were large and beautifully presented with the a cocktail sauce with just the right amount of kick. My sea bass was thick and delicately cooked-- the gnocchi were seared with a tiny crisp, and all of the flavors were fresh and perfectly balanced. Another bonus was the fact that they had a kids' menu (often times if we want to treat ourselves to a nice dinner, our daughter ends up subsisting on bread and butter, but the fact that the chart house offered a kids' menu was such a nice surprise)! The chocolate lava cake was delicious. While the lava did absorb into the cake and didn't ooze out, it was delicious-- not too sweet-- and the bits of toffee on top were an unexpected highlight! This has to be one of the worst meals I have had in the last few years. We were in Tahoe between Christmas and New Years. I had family out from the east coast. My brother made the reservation. We had a party of nine. All the things were ordered. They ran out of one of their regular items so I couldn't even get the salmon I wanted. I subbed out for a steak I could split with my husband and I ordered a salad and extra shrimp. The steak was nothing to write home about and the side of grilled shrimp came well after I finished my steak. The steak came with the most gluey over salted and nasty mashed potatoes I've ever had. The side of green beans was over salted too. Salt was really the only flavor at the chart house. Other people at the table had food issues. My brother's shrimp pasta was enriched spaghetti swimming in butter/grease with a few shrimp. Super unappetizing. He's a bottomless pit and usually finishes everything. He left half his dinner. There were several other items that had issues with preparation or service just not showing up and misfires from the kitchen. I have ten years in the restaurant industry so I give a lot of leeway for doing the best you can while slammed at the holiday and 86's. Running out of things happens, but you offer something and try to make it better. You don't slam down a menu and say pick something new we just ran out. So, I'm not giving any grace with this review because they did nothing to make it better and the server couldn't have cared less. Oh - then I went home and violently shat my dinner out over the next 10 hours as my intestines turned inside out and I almost single-handedly blew out the sewer. So yeah - this gets one star. My first impression of the Chart house is Never to come here again. The hostess was rude when I asked her a question, acted like I was waisting her time, no smile, aloof and should not have that job. The food was very subpar. I had to send just about everything back. Steak, dry, lobster & shrimp carbonara was dry and tasteless. The only food that was actually great was the crab cake. I had to go over my bill cause they even charged me a drink I didn't have. I came for a birthday celebration and left very disappointed. I can say, we will never be back. The Chart House is located in the beautiful South Lake Tahoe mountains. I wished we were there during the daylight, I am sure the view would have been spectacular. The restaurant has beautiful ambiance sith dark wood furnishing. Its a pretty big restaurant with table against the windows, all spread around the restaurant and booths. The service was very attentive but slow. I guess it is for the dining experience but 2 hours for a meal of 1 shared appetizer 1 dinner salad and 2 entrees is a little long for me. They made special, drinks at your table so that was fun to watch. The food was very good but was it great, no. Go to the Chart House for the ambiance and experience at least once. read more
