My boyfriend and I came to Chart House to celebrate my 30th birthday this past Saturday night and we had such an incredible experience! We made reservations for dinner to begin right before sunset so we could enjoy the view, and I'm so glad that we did. The view was STUNNING! Pictures do not do it justice. We were in awe the entire evening! Aside from the great view, both the service we received and the food was impeccable. Adrian was our server. He was very knowledgeable and attentive! We loved the food. We ordered the crab cake, whipped ricotta meatballs, filet mignon, prime rib with truffle butter, lobster tail, and cheesecake. Our expectations were truly exceeded! We are already looking forward to coming back to Tahoe this winter and eating here again! A little birdy told me the locals love to come here for happy hour also. My family loved the happy hour and said I had to try it, but there were no gluten free options on the happy hour menu. I chose not to indulge and got a peach palmer to drink, but the peach syrup was very heavy (non-alcoholic). Our server was knowledgeable on gluten free options but my family did share they made a face when I said I wouldn't be eating. My partner thought the food was pretty basic but we didn't order anything off of happy hour. The interior was beautiful and the scenery as well, and my family still liked the food, mainly because of the happy hour price. It'd be nice to return and order off the main menu, but after that experience, I didn't know if it was worth it to return. It wasn't busy - Tahoe in general isn't busy without snow - so we were sat immediately and our waitress (Eliza?) slow rolled us... maybe a bit too slow for my liking. We were celebrating a bday so a nice booth was waiting for us. We did the 3 course- Lobster bisque- amazing!! I enjoyed the prime rib- cooked perfectly- and he had the swordfish as they were out of the cod.... But the chef did the same presentation on the swordfish and bday boy said it was the best swordfish he's ever enjoyed. So big win. Only problem- dessert- lava cake was over cooked- so no lava.... Oh well. We've been here four times. Each time on the gala night of our vacation stay in Lake Tahoe. It really is a beautiful icing on the cake of a wonderful vacation. In the same way we have never had a bad winter holiday in Lake Tahoe, we've always had a superb time at the Chart House. This time, however, we came with the whole family in tow instead of the usual two. And the place impressed us all, even one of the group who is a restaurateur. As expected of a fine dining restaurant, reservations are a must. The place fills out quickly. Fortunately, the online system is absolutely efficient and we're able to accommodate our party of six with a two-day notice. Arriving at the Chart House, we were seated immediately, a beautiful window table overlooking the luscious gardens. Despite the restaurant, being extremely busy, we felt ample and unbothered by the crowd, a beautiful ambiance that is a treat mark of the place. Our waitstaff was extremely attentive and obviously well trained. He was there when we needed him and he was not when we didn't need him. I will say that our water glass was kept full for our entire stay. We started the fairer with an appetizer comprising of a stack of shrimp, mango and avocado - Superb. And the kimchi calamari was out of this world. The Lobster Bisque and Spinach salads came afterwards, along with some delicious fresh baked bread, followed by entrees such as Sea Bass with Lobster Risotto, a 10-oz Prime Rib, Lamb Chops, and a Shrimp Linguine, among others. Every plate was as good as the next. There was a plethora of accompaniments such as Broccoli Rabe, Creamed Spinach and delicately steamed asparagus. Washing it down with three bottles of good Napa wines. We really had little room for dessert, but each had a little of a delicious Crème Brûlée and a couple of their delicious sorbet. Celebrating a birthday, they provided special menus with Happy Birthday personalized. For appetizer we had the chilled prawns cocktail. They were large and nice with the cocktail sauce with a nice spicy kick. For dinner, the kids had the burger with fries, which was a regular size burger that was at least a third inch thick. Our three entrees were 1) Shrimp and Lobster carbonara. The flavor was excellent, nice and creamy with 4 medium size prawns, plenty of prosciutto and peas, but I could not see but one noticeable piece of lobster the size of a pea. I guess it was minced very small, but not able to catch any of the flavor. 2) the CHEF'S FEATURE SOLE ON FIRE crab stuffed sole | cedar smoked sautéed vegetables I citrus shallot butter $32 (863 cal.) it looked delicious and the table side preparation was very nice. 3) the 3-course Chart Your Course. My son selected the Caesar Salad, Prime Rib with mashed potatoes. He enjoyed it and said it was very good. We also had their delicious award winning clam chowder, nice and thick, rich with flavor and tender clams. The service is always top notch as well as the ambiance. Beautiful view through the forest trees toward the lake with beautiful sunsets. There is adequate parking, but can be challenging when they are busy. This place's front staff is run by morons. Twice now, make a reservation, arrive on time, wait 30 minutes+ for a table. Five groups leave while we're waiting and no one else comes in. These people must've failed to graduate high-school because they can't seem to plan a map of tables. Additionally, it's almost like they get a list of parties, who made reservations, and can map out tables accordingly. Oh wait! They DO have that, but instead of using their brains, let's leave 7 tables open at all times just to be safe I guess. Also, this wait time seems to only apply to minorities. Both times, families of minorities had to wait while white families got their tables noticeably sooner. Truly a shame that the hosts/hostesses are absolutely incompetent and potentially even racist while the waiters and kitchen staff produce an excellent dinner service. You could probably replace the entire front with AI agents and get a less annoying, prejudiced experience. read more

We came in for our anniversary dinner on Monday, May 19th. We weren't extremely hungry so we shared 2 appetizers: coconut shrimp and crab cake. Both were exceptional. We each had a drink (she had a cucumber drink with a spicy rim that was remarkable and I had a berry mule....very good). Then we shared the lava cake. Oh my.....decadent! My husband and I recently received Landry's gift certificates, so we decided to celebrate our anniversary at the Chart House in Stateline. We made a 6 pm reservation and requested a table by the window, mentioning that we were celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived, we were told the only available table was right by the reception desk. While they acknowledged our anniversary with a card on the table signed by several servers, it was disappointing not to get the window seat we had hoped for. The restaurant has large windows on one side, but from our table, we only had a peek-a-boo view of the lake through the trees. We were served a basket with rolls, crackers, and water while we waited for our server to arrive. When she did, my husband brought out a bottle of our favorite wine and asked for red wine glasses. Unfortunately, the server seemed unfamiliar with the request and brought out basic wine glasses. We're not wine snobs, but we expected a restaurant like the Chart House to have proper red and white wine glasses. Oh well, it didn't stop us from enjoying our wine while deciding what to order. We chose items from the Vintage Chart House section. I ordered the Mac Nut Sea Bass with warm peanut sauce, mango relish, soy-glazed mango sticky rice, and Asian green beans. I paired it with a glass of Chardonnay. My husband ordered a filet with garlic mashed potatoes and a side of sizzling mushrooms. When the food arrived, the presentation was underwhelming, as if the dishes were just thrown on the plate. That said, my sea bass was delicious--the sauce was flavorful, and the green beans were amazing. The rice was a bit grainy, but I enjoyed everything else. My husband's steak also looked haphazardly plated, and the mashed potatoes were a solid mass. He even had to ask for a steak knife to cut it, but in the end, it was satisfying. The mushrooms, however, weren't anything special. To complete our meal, they brought us a complimentary slice of chocolate mocha cake, which was a nice gesture. Maybe I expected too much because our last meal at a Chart House had been amazing. This time, the entire meal cost over $250, and I left feeling it wasn't worth the price. I have to say when I'm in Lake Tahoe, my family really enjoys going to the chart house so on this most recent visit that's exactly where we went. Although I have the chop salad we also enjoyed the salmon as well as the fillet with lobster which is served with mashed potatoes and vegetables as well. I say the view overlooking Lake Tahoe is absolutely beautiful. The service was actually great and we definitely plan to return. I would highly recommend this location just past stateline Southlake Tahoe up the Kingsbury grade couple minutes past Clydes coffee ! The staff was friendly and helpful. While we were dinning, the manager stopped by to check in with us to make sure we were okay and everything was going well. I had the prime rib and my Fiance had the lamb. Both were delicious. For sides, we got the mushrooms and green beans, which were just as good. For dessert, we had the lava cake and that was the best lava cake I have had. The view was very nice. We were able to get reservations for sunset. We made a reservation for a party of 11 as we were celebrating 3 people's birthdays. We were seated promptly, ordered drinks immediately, and ordered our courses before the drinks arrived. Our server, Gabriel, explained the menu and the specials and was very helpful with our group. Spinach salad with warm bacon dressing was phenomenal! My wife had the Ahi Tuna lightly seated and I had the Chart House cut prime rib. The beef was more on the rare side as I ordered medium rare. Not a good evening. In retrospect a typical Landry's experience. What a mediocre company. We made a reservation for a party of five and when we showed up we encountered a severely overcrowded reception area, like we were all waiting for a table at Olive Garden. We were finally seated at a nice booth with a fine view of pine trees and a distant Lake Tahoe. Things went downhill from there. Four out of the five meals were straight-up bad, and two of them were followed by severe overnight digestive issues. The prime rib, ordered medium, arrived rare and at a tepid temperature. It was almost impossible to cut and chew. I like to think a prime rib sandwich at Denny's would be superior to the sh*t served by the Chart House. And the mashed potatoes were plated like someone scooped them from a large pot, flung them at the wall, and scraped them off with a spatula. They were room-temperature, or maybe wall-temperature. A New York steak seemed like it had been bled long before it hit a cooking surface. It was dry like a pork chop. Scallops stuffed with crab looked terrific, and they were seared tableside, but they were one of the dishes followed by unfortunate side effects later on. Only a filet met expectations, but then it came with mashed potatoes. We paid $500 for this. A travesty. But again, Landry's. read more

The lobster bisque was not velvety. It was like the cream had broken or something. It was bitter and room temperature. My daughter had the shellfish linguine. She enjoyed it. Lots of different shell fish. Not sure what the broth was but it probably involved at least 2 sticks of butter - which I found to be too much. Wife had salmon with a crab topping. It was well cooked and she enjoyed it, but it was a very small portion. I had the 18 ounce prime rib. It was good, but lacked seasoning. Nothing the salt and pepper at the table couldn't fix. Lava cake was great. Not as good as you would get at a really highend place but delicious. Yelp really needs half stars because this was a 4.5, so I'm score inflating a bit here. read more

This place was recommended for best seafood and pasta. We were very excited to try a new place. The ambiance of the restaurant is upscale with a nice lounge/ relax vibe and beautiful views. The menu selection looked delicious and made the choice difficult. We started with "kimchi calamari" for appetizer followed by 3 course meal, with the entree being miso glazed salmon and greens for my son and "bronzed -salmon with prawns and "mango sticky rice". We would not recommend any of those choices unfortunately if you are looking for flavors to blend well. There were a few fish bone left in my son's salmon- which he bit down into ( ouch and honestly I've not experienced that in a restaurant), he couldn't get past two bites before smashing the salmon with his fork looking for more bones and didn't eat anymore, the greens beans that came with it tasted off - like it was grilled in old oil, my salmon had the same flavor, the mango sticky rice was not cooked completely- and was I don't think it was sticky rice... steam rice maybe- I'm not sure since I make sticky rice frequently and that wasn't sticky rice I am familiar with. The two grilled prawns however was lovely and the only thing I was able to finish off my plate. The mini lava -cake is definitely worth ordering, I do recommend that! The service was fair, it got busy after we arrived and she spent the majority of her time at the next table. We managed to to tell her about our concerns about the meal and she took our complaints to the manager - the compensation was to credit us the entree price ($19) and the dessert price($8 which is included in the coursed meal) My plate was $46 and the 3 course $60, no offer to remake or exchange for something else, we weren't looking for a free meal which was the feeling I was getting from my waitress and the compensation from the manager, I was willing to pay for the whole meal despite not taking more then a couple of bites and enjoying the 2 prawns. What an incredible experience! We came here with a group of 12 guys for a close friend's birthday/bachelor party. I had reached out to their sales department several weeks in advance to get some info on private dining. I worked directly with Brittany H., who was SO friendly and helpful! She clearly provided all the options, prices, and details. She was easy to communicate with and very responsive. She also helped coordinate a custom printed menu, as well as a custom cocktail designed and named specifically for the bachelor! There were several options for dining, including a buffet, Prix Fixe, and a la carte. We considered doing a pre-set menu, but ended up just letting people order whatever they wanted. When we arrived, we were greeted by Jack and his team. Some folks arrived earlier than others, so we grabbed a drink at the bar. There are incredible views around the entire restaurant, with wonderful vibes. Once our whole party arrived, we were escorted over to the section we had reserved. The "Captain's Room" was a semi-private space, with a fireplace. We had requested one large table that all of us could sit at together, and the presentation was on point. While the room wasn't completely private, it was out of the way of other guests, so we felt comfortable being a little louder since we really only had staff walking past to and from the kitchen. *There was a minimum spend to reserve the private space. Based on our guest count and menu prices, we were able to hit it no problem.* Our server, Kar (sp?), was also very friendly. He gave recommendations, and was patient with our big group. He handled it all by himself, and did a great job of getting all the orders correct. The food itself was delicious, and reasonably priced. With slightly lower prices than some other nearby steakhouses, we felt more comfortable ordering extra apps and drinks! Some of the apps we tried: Crab Cake, Shrimp Cocktail, Coconut Shrimp, Crispy Spicy Tuna, and the Lobster Bisque! Everything tasted super fresh and we enjoyed being able to split these amongst the table. For the entrees, most people ordered steak. We tried various cuts, including the Filet, NY Strip, and Prime Rib. We also tried some other dishes such as the Twin Lobster Tails, Mahi Mahi, and Roasted Chicken. They had a really fun Smokey cocktail that was worth the price for the Instagram moment (reel @bbnem.food). In speaking with everyone after dinner, most importantly the Bachelor, I only heard positive feedback regarding the food, drinks, and experience! The custom cocktail was a hit, as we ordered nearly 20 of them throughout the night! Overall, this was absolutely a night to remember. Everyone we came in contact with was friendly and helpful, but most specifically Brittany, Jack, and Kar. I look forward to coming back to this location next time I'm in Tahoe, and plan to revisit the Monterey location that I haven't been to in over 20 years! My family and I come to this restaurant every time we visit Lake Tahoe. Every visit has been amazing except for our recent visit on 1/18. We had a fairly large party, made a reservation and hyped it up to our friends and family whose first time it was visiting the restaurant. Service -Things started off well after we got our appetizers and first round of beverages but things changed when we started to notice that our waiter did not come to our table for at least 45 minutes. No refills on water and no updates on the wait and we stayed patient especially since it was a holiday weekend. Our waiter seemed very stressed and I finally asked if someone could come check in and give us an update on our food and refill our waters and still nothing. Food -We finally received our food after 1.5 hours and 2 steaks were not cooked as requested, a fish dish was cold in the middle, 2 seafood pastas had shellfish that were completely closed and the toast to one of the dishes was completely burnt. Recovery -The last thing we wanted to do is complain but when so many things went wrong and our waiter seemed like he might need some help is when my husband went to go speak to someone about it. A manager came to our table to speak to us and his tone of voice and lack of empathy for the situation was very off putting...the owner of the restaurant even asked us what we should do to make it right...why are we (as customers) having to tell you how to do your job. For the bad experience, we figured a genuine apology was coming our way, maybe a round of drinks or a dessert on the house but all we got was 2 plates taken off our bill only because my husband asked for it to be removed, they didn't even think to do this. When ever visit we South Lake Tahoe, we ALWAYS stop at this location for dinner. March 28, 2026 we had dinner at 5:30 pm. Maître and our waitress were wonderful. Our food as usual was fantastic. Throughout dinner, the very tall, slim manager in our section greeted everyone sitting our section. He bypassed us like we had some exotic diesease. I thought it was very unprofessional. I have my reason on why he might have bypassed us. But I will leave that thought alone. After dinner we were greeted by another gentleman who said hello to us as we were leaving. And he said, he hoped we enjoyed out time and dinner. He was a slim gentle with a beard. Maybe he should retrain the other unprofessional manager. We truly love this restaurant, but the unprofessional manager should amend his ways. The 5 stars is for the food and the friendly staff that dealt with us. read more

The ambiance is light with large windows overlooking many trees with little sight of the lake or mountain tops. They have many window and booth seating with a small bar area for Happy Hour. The food was ok. Nothing to rave about. Service was horrible. Our Waitress was very diligent about helping the bartender but cared less about servicing her tables as we didn't get kids milk with the dinner until the plate was clean and she rolled her eyes when asked about it. We decided to try the Tahoe location for our 24th anniversary and were so happy that we did. From the second we walked in, we were genuinely greeted and seated. Our menus had our "Happy Anniversary " on them as well as a "Happy Anniversary " card on the table. Our server for the evening (Michael) was absolutely the best - sharing his knowledge of not only the food but also great drink recommendations. He was attentive and went out of his way to make sure we had a great dinner- "Thank you, Michael." Our appetizers were phenomenal, as well as our seabass and lobster risotto. Went for HH with my husband and son. The service was ok, not good, not horrible and the restaurant has a nice view. Both my son and husband had the fish tacos. I had the kimchi calamari and the fried avocado with shrimp ceviche. My son really enjoyed the fish tacos as did my husband but he didn't particularly care for the sauce. I shared the same sentiment about the sauce on the kimchi calamari. I loved the fry on the calamari and the vegetables but I would have much preferred having the sauce on the side. While it was good, it was bit too rich to be enjoyed for the entire appetizer. It became a bit too much after about 3-4 bites. I just had a glass of white wine but my husband had the fleur d lis and he enjoyed it. All in all I'd return for the fried avocado and shrimp ceviche and to try some other items but I wouldn't order the calamari again. read more

Service was excellent, especially because we were a big party. We had a tuna appetizer that was amazing and then for dinner got the caesar salad with salmon. It was delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly. The dressing was non-traditional, but still great--I think it's more of like an Italian dressing. The BEST part was it came in a friend parmesan shell that was incredible. There was a nice touch of parmesan croutons and thinly sliced sweet peppers. read more

I guess I will start off with the good, since there was very little of that. Our server was awesome! She was very attentive, helpful, and overall great! Other than that, the experience was very unpleasant. To start off, we got drinks at the bar while we waited for our table. I order some passion bubbly drink I think. It was terrible. All sugar. The bartender seemed new, he had to reference the menu when I asked for the drink, it is 1 of the main drinks on the menu. I asked him how his day was going, making small talk, it's Christmas. He didn't really have much to say besides I can't wait to get out of here. I totally understand, but you know what you signed up for. It's not like they just told you yesterday that the restaurant is open on Christmas. I'll fast forward to my main dish. I got the surf and turf. I asked for medium rare. The steak came out rare as ever. I don't get it. On top of that I had to wait 5 minutes to eat my steak because the expo that brought it out didn't give me a steak knife. Overall, not a good Christmas dinner. Very disappointed. read more
