Our group of four ordered four glasses of wine, two desserts, and an appetizer, and we mentioned that we planned to share everything. When the food and drinks arrived, we asked the person who dropped them off if the outdoor heater could be turned on. He responded, "Ummm... ask your server," with an attitude, then walked away. That was essentially the last service we received. We couldn't flag anyone down for side plates, napkins, or utensils, so we improvised. Fortunately, the appetizer and desserts came with large serving spoons, which we used as our personal cutlery. No napkins, though--we were apparently expected to embrace the rustic experience fully. We watched nearby tables struggle to get service as well. Employees seemed frustrated whenever guests asked for blankets, since the outdoor heaters weren't being turned on. One manager told a nearby table that propane was being brought out for the heater next to us. It never arrived. Another two-top eventually left after sunset without ever getting the chance to order food or drinks. To be fair, we came during Labor Day weekend, and it was clear the restaurant had started the day in the weeds. Earlier that afternoon, we stopped by and the bartender at the front was visibly stressed. She told us we could seat ourselves, but that we were about 40 minutes away from receiving any service because she was the only employee working. So, if you come here, manage your expectations--and pack accordingly. Bring napkins, utensils, side plates, drinks, snacks, and possibly a small emergency flare in case your server has gone on a wilderness expedition around the lake. When we arrived the front area was packed, probably 20 people waiting for tables, one large group of 11. The two ladies working the front desk were clearly doing their best to keep up, but the restaurant was running behind. We ended up waiting just under 30 minutes, which honestly wasn't a big deal to us because we weren't in a hurry. While we waited, we overheard several guests complaining about the length of their wait. A few became incredibly rude and impatient with the girls at the front, which was uncomfortable to watch. They were doing their best, and we appreciated how they continued to handle the situations professionally. Once we were seated in Frankie's section, everything changed. You could tell she had already had a very long night, but she was still friendly, warm, and incredible attentive. She apologized for not getting to us sooner, although we felt she was great from the moment we sat down. She went above and beyond to make sure my birthday dinner was special. Unfortunately when my steak came out it was drastically undercooked and had to be sent back. She was immediately apologetic and handled it with such kindness and professionalism. She never made us feel like it was an inconvenience. Despite the hectic evening and issues they were dealing with, we ended up having a really wonderful dinner. We actually felt bad watching the desk staff receive so much rudeness from other customers. Sometimes restaurants have an unexpectedly busy night, remember to give a little grace. My kids chose the 2-hour Class C - 20 feet open Bow Speed Boat ($478). I thought we would have a driver with us to take us out but no.... They showed my kids how the boat operates, took us out to the open water, and let us loose! There was eight of us on board. It was beautiful out on the water, with the rocking waves, and beautiful scenery and sky. But not when you have my kids driving it like a race car on water. We were rocking like crazy and we all got wet. Especially my grandchildren sitting at the front, who were drenched! I told my kids to slow down, but they say, "he said we could floor it." OMG!! The kids had to put on life jackets and the adults were told there are emergency life jackets on board. Well, with my kids enjoying what the boat can do, I threw on my life jacket! I admit, my kids are very responsible drivers on land. They had so much fun driving the boat in the wide open lake. As scared as I was of possibly being overtaken by waves or capsizing, it was an amazing experience, and it felt so good out there. Absolutely beautiful!! I really enjoyed it, and the staff were great. They know exactly what they're doing. The water started to get kind of choppy, so we ventured back towards the shore after an hour, called them on the radio, and staff came out on a dingy to help dock the boat so that we can safely get out. I am so glad I went on this excursion. If you love the water and drifting up and down with the waves, this is a must try!

All of the stunning views and scenery gave for some pretty epic and gorgeous photos to capture our big day. Josh and Blue Sky Events worked together to make everything run seamlessly the day of our wedding; even when the heater broke on the tent during the rehearsal dinner and the caterer's generator died before our food could be made the day of the wedding. Josh was there doing everything in his power to make things work and make our day great. He was clear on what rules needed to be minded and checked in with us throughout the weekend to make sure we had what we needed. He was always making sure everyone was having a good time and was a great person to hang out with too. Most wedding venues in Lake Tahoe make you use their caterers, don't let you do unique things like bring a late night munchie food truck or anything outside of their own packages and for some people that's great but for us, we wanted flexibility and Fjeldheim allowed that for us so we could have a day that was perfectly us.

Tahoe Mountain Home is a 9,000 square foot private vacation home that can house 30+ people easily. Sitting high above the lake, this property offers awesome views overlooking the lake. I recently came over the weekend with a group of friends and was able to discover all that this property has to offer. The house offered over eight bedrooms and sleeping for the entire guest, all the rooms come with their own name; honestly, I felt like I was in a mansion! My mouth dropped as I drove up the one-way hill to get to the house, the place is HUGE! There were different access ways to the entrance, a fabulous hot tub in the back of the house that fits 4-5 people comfortably and a big parking lot that fits over 10 cars easily. This place is exceptional! The house is located 5-10 minutes from all of the fun entertainment including the casinos, restaurants, and bars and lounges. We took Uber every night and didn't have an issue at all. Now, on to the BEST part, it was SNOWING the WHOLE.WEEKEND. I have yet to experience snow before, so this was not only fun for me but exciting! Now, driving in the snow was not exciting at all, trust me, but playing in it was FUN. On the last night of our stay, we received emails and news reports that there was a blizzard coming and that we may be snowed in. Okay, I became scared once I received the news, but that quickly changed when we had the housing manager come over. Josh is the 'housing manager' and the night I became very anxious about the snowstorm, he came over with his lovely dog and informed our group that we were going to be Okay. He discussed the weather and even asked all of us for our car keys while he plowed the driveway so we can leave much easier to leave for the next-day departure. Can you believe that he moved all 10 cars and plowed the driveway all by himself? OMG, bless his heart! After Josh left, my group advised me that Josh is a wonderful guy that comes throughout our visit to check in with us. I was so touched by the personal touch. This property, as well as Josh, deserves MORE than 5 stars! Yelp, we really have to work on expanding the 5 stars (emoji: smiles). I definitely would recommend staying at this property. We also have a friend who is a photographer and we haven't had professional photos taken since our wedding 18 years ago so we thought The Landing would be the perfect place since they host weddings here and it's right next to the beach. There are so many excellent parts to mention but I will start with the staff. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so friendly and welcoming to us and our dog. Our 15 year old had just passed and so our 12 year old was a little lost and loved all of the attention. She was treated just like one of the family. They even allow dogs on the free shuttle which is so perfect so we were able to go into the village and have lunch with her. It's a downhill walk back and so pretty, so we enjoyed the fresh air back. They upgraded our room and the views of the lake were perfect. It was so easy taking Juno out for potty breaks. It was extremely quiet and clean. The heated floors and toilets are a nice touch. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and it is the best meal I've had in Tahoe. The Venison is unbelievably tender and flavorful. My husband loved his homemade pasta with huge prawns. Our server, Kevin, went above and beyond to make the night special. They even let us take a few pictures in the bar area which I think turned out really cool with all of the bottles and colors in the background. Of course we all come for Tahoe! This place is right on a perfect spot. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, some trees and grassy areas also made for perfect pictures. We were there right at the start of Memorial Day weekend so it was extremely quiet and peaceful. I'm sure it will get busy in the height of summer but even then being able to walk across the street from your room makes it so convenient. Our guests loved taking the tram up to the venue--it made the whole experience feel so unique and memorable. The food was also exceptional, which so many people commented on afterward. We honestly had multiple guests tell us it was the best wedding they'd ever been to, and we truly think the venue was a huge part of that. Then just get up and walk out with your freebies. Another really sad part of staying here is walking past the timeshare vultures going to the very reasonably priced convenience store and seeing an elderly disabled person sitting there getting the ridiculous sales pitch. Now for all the reasons I gave it four stars. My hotel room has an amazing view, and it always does. Panoramic Carson valley. Perhaps the best view in all of Northern california. Free parking. And the free parking is very convenient, steps away from the elevator leading to your room. I always get upgraded to an enormous corner suite. Large living room, fully equipped kitchen, king bedroom, and a nice bathroom. Washer dryer in your hotel room! And there's even free laundry detergent. One of the most amazing benefits is a limited number of free EV charging stations. In a state with the highest gas prices in the country, you can drive all over the Carson Valley in your EV for free. The convenience store is very reasonably priced. Aside from having to walk by those loathsome timeshare vultures, the selection is good and the prices are similar to Target or walmart. Depending on your building, hot tub right on the premises. They had a nice pool, but it seems to have fallen into some disrepair. And the water temperature was definitely not warm enough for a cool ridge Tahoe evening. Location is perfect unless you want to walk to a South Lake Tahoe casino. And I have zero interest in casinos. The ridge puts you dead center between Tahoe and the Carson valley.

I've stayed here three times, in both the Tower and Nagle buildings, and the views alone make every visit worthwhile. The location is absolutely five-star, especially for winter trips focused on skiing. Many of the units are more like condos than hotel rooms, with full kitchens, living areas, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, and thoughtful extras like jetted tubs, gas fireplaces, laundry rooms, and balconies. Ski lockers conveniently located in the halls are another nice touch. Decor varies depending on the building and unit -- some feel more updated than others -- but all have character and have consistently been well stocked with useful amenities like humidifiers, fans, and reliable coffee makers. Parking is easy and plentiful, with both underground and outdoor options across the property. My favorite feature, hands down, is the Skier Express -- a mechanical bubble shuttle that connects the resort directly to the Stagecoach lift. When it's running, it's an amazing perk, though it seems to be operational only about half the time, which can be frustrating. There's also a traditional shuttle that loops to the base lodges. It can take a bit longer due to the one-way main road, but it's still a solid option for getting around. On my most recent visit, the management team really stood out. Communication before arrival was excellent, and I was celebrating a milestone birthday -- they made the stay feel extra special with genuine kindness and attention. I'm honestly not sure where some of the lower reviews come from, but if they help keep this place under the radar, I guess that's the silver lining. For me, Tahoe Ridge has become my go-to stay in the area and the only place I consistently choose when visiting.
