The view alone gets five stars. The service, however, appears to operate on "lake or mountain time." We were seated with menus and waited about 20 minutes before we finally flagged down an employee to ask for service. Our group of four ordered four glasses of wine, two desserts, and an appetizer, and we mentioned that we planned to share everything. When the food and drinks arrived, we asked the person who dropped them off if the outdoor heater could be turned on. He responded, "Ummm... ask your server," with an attitude, then walked away. That was essentially the last service we received. We couldn't flag anyone down for side plates, napkins, or utensils, so we improvised. Fortunately, the appetizer and desserts came with large serving spoons, which we used as our personal cutlery. No napkins, though--we were apparently expected to embrace the rustic experience fully. We watched nearby tables struggle to get service as well. Employees seemed frustrated whenever guests asked for blankets, since the outdoor heaters weren't being turned on. One manager told a nearby table that propane was being brought out for the heater next to us. It never arrived. Another two-top eventually left after sunset without ever getting the chance to order food or drinks. To be fair, we came during Labor Day weekend, and it was clear the restaurant had started the day in the weeds. Earlier that afternoon, we stopped by and the bartender at the front was visibly stressed. She told us we could seat ourselves, but that we were about 40 minutes away from receiving any service because she was the only employee working. So, if you come here, manage your expectations--and pack accordingly. Bring napkins, utensils, side plates, drinks, snacks, and possibly a small emergency flare in case your server has gone on a wilderness expedition around the lake. I'd definitely come back for the view. The scenery is beautiful, the patio is fantastic, and sunset is worth the trip. Just don't expect the service to be remotely reliable.

My kids chose the 2-hour Class C - 20 feet open Bow Speed Boat ($478). I thought we would have a driver with us to take us out but no.... They showed my kids how the boat operates, took us out to the open water, and let us loose! There was eight of us on board. It was beautiful out on the water, with the rocking waves, and beautiful scenery and sky. But not when you have my kids driving it like a race car on water. We were rocking like crazy and we all got wet. Especially my grandchildren sitting at the front, who were drenched! I told my kids to slow down, but they say, "he said we could floor it." OMG!! The kids had to put on life jackets and the adults were told there are emergency life jackets on board. Well, with my kids enjoying what the boat can do, I threw on my life jacket! I admit, my kids are very responsible drivers on land. They had so much fun driving the boat in the wide open lake. As scared as I was of possibly being overtaken by waves or capsizing, it was an amazing experience, and it felt so good out there. Absolutely beautiful!! I really enjoyed it, and the staff were great. They know exactly what they're doing. The water started to get kind of choppy, so we ventured back towards the shore after an hour, called them on the radio, and staff came out on a dingy to help dock the boat so that we can safely get out. I am so glad I went on this excursion. If you love the water and drifting up and down with the waves, this is a must try!

The only hiccup was the delivery of the mobile tickets and there was not a lot of information about how to obtain them. I tried calling all the numbers that were listed through Golden Nugget but no one returned my call. Once this gets ironed out, it would definitely be a 5-star experience.

But the hit of our stay was the restaurant. Their cuisine was as good as any restaurant we've been to. Their chef produced absolutely outstanding menu choices and presentations. The waiter crew were friendly and professional with special consideration to Clay who made our evening meal choices memorable. We also have a friend who is a photographer and we haven't had professional photos taken since our wedding 18 years ago so we thought The Landing would be the perfect place since they host weddings here and it's right next to the beach. There are so many excellent parts to mention but I will start with the staff. From the moment we walked in, everyone was so friendly and welcoming to us and our dog. Our 15 year old had just passed and so our 12 year old was a little lost and loved all of the attention. She was treated just like one of the family. They even allow dogs on the free shuttle which is so perfect so we were able to go into the village and have lunch with her. It's a downhill walk back and so pretty, so we enjoyed the fresh air back. They upgraded our room and the views of the lake were perfect. It was so easy taking Juno out for potty breaks. It was extremely quiet and clean. The heated floors and toilets are a nice touch. We had dinner one night in the restaurant and it is the best meal I've had in Tahoe. The Venison is unbelievably tender and flavorful. My husband loved his homemade pasta with huge prawns. Our server, Kevin, went above and beyond to make the night special. They even let us take a few pictures in the bar area which I think turned out really cool with all of the bottles and colors in the background. Of course we all come for Tahoe! This place is right on a perfect spot. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, some trees and grassy areas also made for perfect pictures. We were there right at the start of Memorial Day weekend so it was extremely quiet and peaceful. I'm sure it will get busy in the height of summer but even then being able to walk across the street from your room makes it so convenient. I knew that the mandatory valet parking fee was expensive, and I knew that the resort fee was uncomfortably high. I also knew the Margaritaville brand, and that there would likely be a disconnect between the lake/ mountain experience of Lake Tahoe versus the traditional Margaritaville palm tree vibe. All of that said, there's a lot to like here. The rooms are large, with a separate living room area from the bedroom, there's a dining table, mini fridge, safe in the room, and the water pressure is pretty decent from the handheld shower head. The location is also wonderful, just feet away from the major casinos on the Nevada side, lots of restaurants and retail, the marina, Heavenly village, Edgewood, etc. We spent more time outside the room then we did inside. The TV channels having pretty basic cable was a bit of an annoyance, but since they do have Chromecast, I was able to cast my own TV apps from my phone to the hotel TV. The hotel had a musician come in daily (nice touch), and from their position in the lobby, their voice carried throughout the entire hotel. The hotel itself gives off a layout vibe of an Embassy suites - about eight floors of rooms around a middle courtyard that has the breakfast restaurant on one side, the bar and other seating on the opposite side, and lots of foliage all over. There's also a lot of colorful seating with umbrella covering around the outside of the hotel, which makes indoor / outdoor living easy. That said, I am disappointed with the management/leadership of this hotel, as all of the biggest frustrations are simple fixes that have come up in recurring complaints on this review site. People complain about the lack of engagement at check-in, and I experienced the same thing. Teaching people in hospitality on how to engage with traveling guests is part art and part operational science, but despite all the people who have complained about it, it's still not fixed. I pray that somebody from Margaritaville leadership would take over and start training on how to speak to a customer. I've experienced far better engagement from the cashiers at my local supermarket than I did at this hotel. I've personally trained hundreds of customer service representatives in my 30-plus year career, I was tempted to start teaching people on the spot. Come on Margaritaville, please be better. I've also been trying to come up with a better word for the shuttle management, but I just have to use the word dumb. Before we arrived, I received a text from the hotel informing me of the available shuttle to take us around the local area, and encouraging me to ask the front desk when I arrive. I did ask the front desk agent, and she shared "I don't know when the shuttle runs - it just kind of goes around in a loop. We don't have anything to do with it, you should ask the valet." So I then went to the valet booth, where they said "yeah, it's here when it's here, it picks up and drops off on its own schedule, you should ask the guys who park cars if they've seen it yet today." So when we wanted to go to the marina, we stood out in front and asked the parking attendant, and he encouraged us to stand by the trash can and wait. We waited about 5 minutes (the shuttle was there with hazards flashing, they just couldn't find the driver) at which point we decided to just walk the 1.5 miles on our own. This hotel motivated us to get a lot of steps in over our 4 days.. we never did get to use the shuttle as it never seemed to be available. Even if the hotel has made the strategic decision not to put the shuttle on a fixed schedule, a true "resort" would say, "how about you enjoy our lobby comfortably, and when the shuttle arrives will come get you" (or something similar). To have a plan of putting customers next to the trash can, as a hospitality business, it's just bad leadership judgment. So overall, everything about this Margaritaville gives off the Embassy suites vibe (not a bad thing), from the rooms and layout to the amenities, even down to the "we clean your room when we feel like it" experience (for us, they randomly cleaned it after day 3 of our four-day visit)... And that all comes at a premium price, with additional fees. There's nothing that for me felt like a "resort." All of that is balanced against a great location and the laid-back Margaritaville appearance which I personally enjoy. I keep asking myself if I would stay there again - the best answer I have is probably not at these prices, but if the price was right I would give it another shot.

We were told we were upgraded because of booking through Amex THC, however, I got the same Two queen bed premium suite that I booked. After calling and checking on the upgrade - they said "that was the upgrade because the hotel was filled with bookings". We didnt get any view or extra amenities. As soon as you enter the driveway - there is always a smell of smoking and weed both near the exits and in the hallways regardless of the no smoking signs everywhere. The bathroom is quite small and has a bit of mold growth on the ceilings, there is absolutely no ventilation nor exhaust in the bathroom. The rooms are small but they work, not many complaints there. The indoor pool is very musty and stinks of strong chlorine with no ventilation again. There is an outdoor patio attached to this but it was a wreck that guests probably have not kept well but the hotel staff also dont bother to clean during the day. The hotel does not have any self parking, and valet is $50-$60 on any given day. To top this off, the hotel charges $50 resort fee, $7 taxes on the resort fee for other amenities which includes a PRE ROUTED SHUTTLE. They say its a shuttle within a 4 mile radius but thats not true and it stops at a ski resort and something else. The only good thing for paying almost $1K for two nights was probably the $100 F&B credit with Amex THC that I could use at the cafe. This isn't even peak season, its late August.

Whether you want to stay busy or just kick back and watch a game, they've got you covered. There's a fun mini golf course with obstacle-style holes, cornhole, other interactive games, tons of big-screen TVs showing sports, plenty of high-top tables, a long bar, and even outdoor seating. We decided to grab a couple seats at the bar. We were first greeted by Kelly, who was incredibly friendly, had a great smile, and genuinely seemed happy to take care of us. Then Ben took over, and he was awesome. Super personable, easy to joke around with, and the kind of bartender who keeps interacting with guests even when he's busy. The staff alone is a reason we'd come back. Trivia isn't usually my thing, but we decided to join in anyway. It's free, energetic, and a lot of fun. There were probably around 25 teams playing, and Tom did a great job keeping the energy up all night. The questions start out pretty easy to build your confidence, then get progressively tougher. It ended up being a great time and the perfect way to spend our first night in Tahoe.
