After months of consideration, I decided I wanted to lighten my hair and dye it pink. I was extremely excited for this and went to Charm Beauty after they promised my mother that they could do this service for me. After we went to the salon and I showed them my reference images, they reassured me that they could make my hair pink. After 4 hours of bleaching and toning, they said that it was finished. When I looked in the mirror I was a brassy, orange, golden blonde. The owner said, "You're a woman, you don't want pink." The only reason I'm giving this place one star is because it's really cheap and some salonists are talented and nice. I've gone to this place about 3 times for haircuts and was happy until recently. I went to this salon last week and I wanted to get my haircut after washing my hair and waiting 30 minutes i finally got to my chair. I dont know the woman's name but she was Asian she started combing my hair and suddenly stopped, went to the manager and the manager came up to me and said i had lice. I told him i don't have lice, it's dandruff but he kept insisting and i was sitting there embarrassed and the salonist did not even come up to me after the fact. Finally the manager got someone to cut my hair (she was very nice and didn't have a problem) I went up after my cut and told them i have dandruff and dryness all over my body and that I don't feel to come to their establishment anymore (i myself am a nurse I would know). He did not explain his suspicions but kept to his accusation. But I told him I would find out for sure and regardless of who was right or wrong, I would call back. This weekend I had 3 RNs check my hair thoroughly, not like the 5 seconds the salon checked, and they found nothing. So I called back today and spoke to the manager and told him and he said because I'm Indian and have long hair and share brushes, lice are prone to come into my hair and that they were making sure. A. That is racist. I was born here in NY and B. I don't share brushes. These people were being racist and shouldn't be diagnosing people with lice if they themselves don't know! People would be going to the doctor wasting their money if they are just assuming. I told him if you really are concerned you should train your staff to know what lice are and what they look like. Anyways if you really desire to go here because of how cheap they are, be aware of the manager and that Asian woman. They seem pretty daft and obviously need intense retraining in hair and in customer service. read more

Charms has everything you need to get done. Threading eyebrows. Full body waxing, Brazilian, and hair. I usually get my brazilian done by a persian woman named Sudi. She is amazing and really knows what she is doing. Not only does she prep the skin, but she helps soothe and take care of the skin as well. They usually do good when it comes to hair. Like blow drying and style. The only thing is it gets over crowded and busy sometimes. And if you make an appt in advance, sometimes you still have to wait. But other than that, the employes are really nice. Prices are reasonable. Especially there Brazilian Wax. THEY ONLY TAKE CASH FYI. read more

I have been going here on and off for years. I deal with Sylvia for waxing and threading. Service is definitely not consistent at all. Sometimes I swear she's blind with all the patches of hair she leaves. The owner is persistent on asking if I want a manicure. They don't even have manicure stations. They sit you in a dryer seat and pull a table over to you. Its ghetto. The overall salon is dirty and dingy. Parking is horrendous. Skip this place. Anne is no longer the but all of them in the threading room are excellent as are the prices. $8 for eyebrow threading is cheap, it's over $25 in Ridgewood or Ramsey. It's not a fancy place but who want to pay for fancy? This place is amazing! I have pretty thick eyebrows so i dont like them thin at all, and other places have always done the opposite of what I like! They listen to what u want, i always go here to get my eyebrows threaded even though its a bit of a drive for me.. All of them are good at what they do! I got my eyebrows done here and the staff is super sweet and friendly. The lady who did my eyebrows drew a line to get a precise shape and then slowly did it. The lips procedure was also painless. Okay so I called to make an appointment here and I was slightly late so I had to wait. The wait got to long do I went with a woman named Alifa I think. Alifa was very kind and talked me through everything. I got an under arm wax and had my eyebrows and lip threaded. Charm is the only salon I go to for waxing and threading. I love Afia because she does an amazing job without hurting me. I have been going there for about 5 years now and absolutely love it. Her hands are magical! If Afia is busy or not available I wait for her only because she's the only one I can trust with my body. when I go for a waxing I'm done within 20-30 minutes and threading takes about 10 minutes. She's super fast and clean. Afia will always give great customer service even when she's super busy. I would definitely recommend Afia if you want a waxing and threading. I discovered Charms from a friend who grew up in the area. I needed a nice blow out one Saturday morning since I was, ummmm, getting married later that evening. (LET me be clear, we had a destination wedding but got married in the church the week before our destination wedding) I came here right at their opening, was taken quickly by a nice Dominican lady (many of them are) who did a nice job and while talking to me discovered I was getting married. She was shocked, and then I explained the situation. She decided I needed a nice half up-do, and it loooked great. Since then ive been coming twice a month for my blow outs (expensive habit). I'm never picky about who does the blow out, but i did have one Italian lady who did it and i HATED it, full of hairspray, i had to wash out the next day. Since then, i try my best to get Dominga, who does a beautiful blow out and is very sweet. This is not a place i would get my color done,or walk in to a random person for a cut,but for a wash and blow out, it's perfect. The wait can be a bit annoying most days since it does get really packed, so come with time. They also only take cash, so hit up the atm! read more

I have thick eyebrows, and they create an arch and thickness I am comfortable with, I find the threading here is more clean/precise looking then waxing and other places I've gone. This place is a trip! Nothing like it. Some of the Stylists are 80 years old, but as hip as can be. All walks of life here, multicultural, young and old. Busy, busy busy, with same owner, frank for Over 40 years. They must be doing something right. Plus, they don't overcharge you either. I came here for eyebrow threading after a recommendation by my cousin who loved Rehazza's work. I was really apprehensive about having my eyebrows done at all because of horrible experiences in the past. Rehazza threaded and trimmed my eyebrows perfectly ! She was very meticulous and took her time. She would thread a little bit at a time and showed me the results along the way, asking if I would like more arch, thinner, etc. The price for threading is also very affordable at $8!! I had my brows threaded at the mall in the past which cost $12 (worst mistake ever) and at a high end threading salon in Manhattan for $33 thinking the more money I paid, the better the results would be but that is not the case at all. Rehazza did a better job than the places I have been to in the past and I will surely return! I would highly recommend coming to Charm for eyebrow threading and asking for Rehazza!!! EDIT: I have not touched my eyebrows since I was at Charm in June and returned to Rehazza in August for threading again. I told her that I wanted her to keep my eyebrows thick, but arched, and showed her the same picture I did the first time I was there. Unfortunately, she left me with 2 uneven eyebrows. She mentioned that the shape of my right one was a little different from my left one and I suppose in an attempt to make them even, she over-threaded and removed at least 3 lines of hair from my right eyebrow. In my first experience with her she would thread little by little and show me along the way to make sure that I was happy with the results so far. She basically rushed through the job this time. My brows are now markedly and noticeably of different shape and thickness. I now have to color in my right brow everyday so I don't look so ridiculous when I walk out of the door. I grew my eyebrows out for 2.5 years to achieve the fullness I had before this mishap and fear that I will have to wait this long for my right one to grow out again. I had a horrible experience at a mall threading salon which left my eyebrows disfigured and now they are even worse. I will not be returning to Charm for further services. read more

I was very disappointed with the service here hence why I never came back . I wanted to get an ombré of blonde at the bottom and black up to typical ombré look right ? Wrong when I arrived I waited 2 hours just to be seen and then when I was finally seen I showed the girl (I forgot her name ) a picture of the ombré I wanted she didn't even look at she proceeded to bleach my gray to the point where my hair turned gray which is nbd considering I figured she would die it blonde and black . 1 1/2 passes by and I see my hair not only did she rush the job I was unhappy . Instead of my hair being half blonde and black the whole back of my head was blonde there was no black over it or nothing . When I told her it didn't look like what I wanted she proceeded to tell me .
