Upper West Side

Upper West Spa is a good experience, the ease of booking is rivaled only by the kindness and…read moreexpertise of its staff. It's an excellent place for nails, waxing and the occasional facial. I have my favorites, ofc, but the recent bad weather kept some staff from getting to work. My appointment was kept, I received superior work as always and a new regard for everyone who works there. It's a real team of New Yorkers I am very happy to be their long time customer, (since Feline- long passed) It's clean, it's pleasant, it's next door to Vanguard Wine bar- meets so many needs!

After one of my favorite places changed management (and standards), I had been looking for a day…read morespa-type of establishment. I am a frequent and loyal customer and therefore do not enter into these things randomly. Certainly, the quality must be there. One day, I needed to purchase several of my usual skin-care items. I did some research for my brands, and I decided to try Upper West Spa with the potential for a longer relationship also in mind. Their website was appealing-ish, and I wanted the opportunity to evaluate whether I would make this my wax, laser, what-have-you regular place. It might prove inappropriate for that, I reasoned, but how could they ruin a purchase experience ? I need the items anyway. I have nothing to lose. I was entirely mistaken. I arrived with two pre-paid VISA gift cards given me by my family - "pre-paid" means, just like cash (?). In what one might best identify as a kind of gobble-dy-gook, one of the individuals behind the register informed me that her "system" ONLY accommodated credit cards and that she would not accept pre-paid giftcards. Moreover, she said, the only other option was entering the cards manually "and well we just won't do that." The spa did not seem busy ... is it really too much trouble ... ? To build a relationship with a potentially regular customer ...? Now, at this point, I could have used my debit or credit cards. At it stood, I would have needed to pay around $100 beyond the gift cards anyway. But I was so annoyed by her demeanor - she obviously suspected something shady - that I was quite literally unable to imagine tossing any profits in their direction. I am also aware that businesses who exhibit extreme vigilance about being cheated are often cheating people themselves - suffice to say: No thanks. It was a very disappointing experience but also a learning one. I was not thrilled about the "feel" when I walked in, I thought the people in attendance were oddly watchful and unhelpful, but I gave them the full chance notwithstanding. Going forward, I will never consider Upper West Spa, not would I recommend them to anyone. And I don't need to. There are thousands of spas and shops in New York, and most of them carry my skin-care brands.

I also had a 90-minute deep tissue massage with Enrique. He was an expert massage therapist, targeting the trouble areas we discussed. I felt wonderful afterwards and was sure to drink a lot of water. I will certainly book another session with Enrique once again. Great job! Mitchell S

I want to share my experience with Enrique as both a masseuse and as the business owner of Face to Face NYC: Enrique gave me the "Ultimate Massage". When I came into the office at the lobby Enrique quickly acknowledged and greeted me. He went to make sure the room as perfect and then came back outside to take me into the room. The room was perfectly lit and air conditioned. He politely gave me time alone to get ready for the table and came back several minutes later to start the massage. The Ultimate Massage: I have never done a deep tissue massage before and so I was not sure what to expect. Enrique delivered in the perfect amount of pressure to apply onto my hard knots both on my back and my shoulders. He started off on my shoulders and upper back and I had such difficult knots on my shoulders it was so painful feeling him loosen them up gradually. But that "pain" was pain of relief and comfort. Enrique did a wonderful job on my neck, shoulders, and back. He then proceeded to the rest of my body: legs, feet, arms, and hands. I had no idea that I had secret hard knots all over my forearm and legs. Enrique used his professionalism and history of his craft by doing techniques that helped to ease up painful knots that has never been touched before; especially in a deep tissue massage. Overall: I felt very relieved and satisfied at the end of my Ultimate Massage that I had asked Enrique if he had time for 30-45 minutes more for a deep tissue massage specifically for my back and shoulders. Unfortunately, he had a next client coming in. I will definitely be coming back to Enrique at Face to Face NYC for a thorough, professional, well done massage as well as try their other offerings. Thank you, Enrique @ Face to Face NYC!

They are truly the best and always leave me glowing without the risks of skin cancer and orange streakiness. I recently visited Tre Chique for my hair and I was really blown away! I have not colored my hair in over a year and I was long overdue for a cut. It can be very scary to go to someone for these services for the first time (especially when it comes to color!) but I have never left a salon happier than when I walked out of Tre Chique. I was so beyond impressed with Caroline's knowledge of hair. I had an idea of what I wanted, but I left it up to her expertise and she really delivered. She is also an absolute doll! Although we went for a more natural look, the color change is so noticeable and the cut she gave me has made my hair look so much fuller and healthier. I have gotten so many compliments! I am so happy to have found someone in Hoboken who I can trust with my hair.

I was offered the option to rebook with a regular artist, but the price was nearly double. When I asked politely if they could honor the apprentice rate or offer a discount since the cancellation wasn't on my end, they declined "because we called you yesterday and she had a dental emergency". It was disappointing to be met with a lack of empathy, especially since this left me scrambling at short notice. This would have been my first visit to this business, and while I understand things happen, I wish the situation had been handled with a bit more flexibility and care.
