Always walked past this place and made a mental note that I was going to eat/stay there. After a coupe hours of Oktoberfest, the boyfriend and I decided to walk around downtown Flagstaff and find a place to eat, we decided on Charly's. We decided since it was SO beautiful outside that we would eat outside on the 2nd story. We each had 2 drinks and then decided to order dinner ( On saturdays they don't serve dinner up there till 5Pm) Our server was awesome, she was very attentive and was very sweet. She went out of our way to please us. Service was wonderful, this is a place to go to have a drink and enjoy the Flagstaff weather. read more

This is the first time in my life I have ever left a restaurant without paying, the experience was that bad. I feel terrible leaving a bad review because the staff, while completely absent and inattentive, WERE at least very friendly (when they could be found at all). Unfortunately that's the only positive thing I can say about the experience here. We showed up for a late breakfast around 10:30 am, and were seated promptly. Our waitress stated she wasn't in fact a waitress but would take our order anyway (??). We ordered very basic dishes, eggs with bacon, toast, etc...something that only takes a few minutes to prepare. I'd also like to point out that the entire place was empty with the exception of one person drinking coffee and reading a book. 45 minutes elapsed and we hadn't seen a single staff member since being seated. We were getting pretty hungry so I went and found a staff member to ask where the food was. 10 minutes later a new waitress came out and informed us they were out of hash browns, and offered avocado as a substitute. We said that's fine. She then returned and said they actually DID have hash browns but it would take time to prepare the potatoes. We said stick with the avocado. Around 10 minutes later (a full hour after being seated), our food finally arrived....lukewarm. As we began to eat, I looked down and noticed a large black hair in the food. At this point we stopped eating and decided to leave. I went to the front desk and informed the staff member we would not be paying and the service was horrible. She apologized for what happened (she was very friendly, and I tried to be as polite as possible) and we left. Hopefully our experience was a one-off, because I DO see some other positive reviews, though they seem very hit-or-miss. My recommendation? Hit up literally ANY of the other great diners or restaurants in Flagstaff where you'll get much better service and food. read more

This place is really nice. Great atmosphere in the historic hotel, nice porches and spacious upstairs for dining. Best Navajo taco in town, covered in grilled vegetables. The whole order is more food than anyone should ever eat. Nights often have interesting music, and the bar crowd seems more relaxed than average. I've never seen it overcrowded. I once stopped in after a David Grisman concert at the Orpheum. A group of acoustic musicians were on stage, and shortly after David's back up band arrived with instruments in hand. A great night of music followed. Wish I could bring Charley's down to Tucson. Might be the best bar in Arizona. read more

Two of the three bars here were open on Saturday night. We went into the one in the back of the hotel with a stage. Seems that one of the bars (likely the best) was being remodeled? Anyway, we watched a local band play and enjoyed several good drinks. Flavored Smirnoff Vodka was on special for 2.50 - felt like I was stealing... One of the few bars downtown we found that wasn't packed to the rafters with college kids :) The hotel itself looked really cool. A clerk told us about a few of the many ghost stories. I will probably stay here on my next visit. read more

If you're in a hurry (meaning you have an for lunch) this isn't the place to eat. We have now been waiting for 35 minutes for our food to come out. Additionally, they have trouble getting the order correct. Now they brought out the Flagstaff Dip, without the dip. The waitress did not even notice that the bowl for dip was empty. We had to ask for napkins. The French fries are cold. The sandwich is Luke warm. The roast beef is tasty. Not the best dining experience I have lately. read more

Food was OK, but I was really amazed at how unfriendly the staff was. It was just the start of lunch when we went, and everyone seemed to be pissed off to see customers. I wouldn't say that they were rude, but definitely not welcoming. I gave them 2 stars for the atmosphere and OK food. read more

Truly a regrettable experience. Beginning with a hot cheese appetizer that was cold and stringy. And it only got worse from there. The salad was served with no dressing followed by the waitress spilling the now requested salad dressing all over my wife's slacks and blouse with barely an apology. Just an offer of more napkins. Our main course then arrived before having a chance to finish the salad The tacos smelled of burnt fish and the enchiladas were bland and cold Needless to say we could get out of there fast enough Please note This is the first negative review I have ever written I hope management takes this review to heart read more

Wow this place is great! I was in Flagstaff for work and this was a recommendation from my local colleagues. It's located inside the Weatherford Hotel and the decor is beautiful and interesting. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant as well as the food and drink. The service was beyond attentive and helpful and both the waiter and host were very friendly. I am vegetarian and gluten-free and while there weren't many options for me, what I ordered was phenomenal. I had a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich without the bun and sweet potato fries. I asked the waiter for a local beer recommendation and that was very good too. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the Flagstaff area! read more

I do believe the name of the restaurant is misspelled. It should be "Charly's." I had the 1/2 burger medium rare with onions and mushrooms for about $9.00. (I could be a bit off on that). I chose a side salad for my side item and it was high quality. The ranch was good and the salad itself was fresh. The burger came with ketchup, tomato, lettuce, and a pickle on the side. The bun was also of noticeable high quality. It was a great burger. I gave it only 4/5 stars because the food was a bit pricey. read more

You have not experienced Flagstaff until you go to Charlies! Bring your friends, family and even kids can enjoy the view of the peaks from the Zan Grey balcony upstairs. Their food is amazing and they have tones of drinks to choose from. This is also a great place to take a date to; a nice dinner, live local music & right in the middle of down town flagstaff! It is a very unique laid back kind of place, you won't have to wait in a line to get in or change your shoes cause they have a scuff on them. This place really captures the essence and personality of Flagstaff. Everyone is supper friendly and inviting day and night. read more

Nice bar/restaurant adjoining a hotel. All day happy hour on Thursday was a bonus. Small salad w/added chicken was perfect as were HH taquitos. My go-to casual spot in Flagstaff for the past few visits. read more

After reading good reviews for another place, "that place" is applying for liquor license so no alcohol and I like to have something with dinner. My husband and I walked a bit down the street and found this place. It wasn't busy but then it started to get busy so we had a bit of a wait for food. Service was great! Our food order was very good. Smash burger, cheese dip, chicken salad all wonderful. Quaint little place and masks were in place from staff/servers. Hayden was our sever and was very pleasant! read more

Food is good: had the rib eye which was cooked perfect to my taste, medium rare. The shrimp scampy was also good with an extra spicy kick. There is also a good Friday night life with a live band downstairs and another bar upstairs. read more

Charley's did it right. A large party of us came to Charley's for a friend's birthday dinner and everything went smooth as silk. When rolling 23 people into a place I always expect some type of hiccup, but not here. They sat us in a room off to the side with a bar and bathrooms to ourselves. Good idea given the surly nature of my friends. We only had one waiter for the lot of us, but she did an admirable job of keeping everything under control and refilling drinks. The beer selection was good, I believe there were around 7-8 taps with regular American beers and some craft brews. I had a few Lagunitas IPAs that were great. For appetizers we went with the Charley's Baked Dip. I was pleasantly surprised to find that for the large amount of "dip" we received there was more than enough baked bread chips. It was creamy, cheesy and delicious. My dinner companion got the NY Strip (Rare) and I ordered the Veggie Chimichanga. Of note, the black beans and rice that came with the chimichanga were great. The salsa was also pretty good. I questioned a few of my friends at the table and none had any complaints about their entrees. Would definitely come back for a visit while in the wooded north of Arizona! read more

I like Charley's. First off, I love the mispelling, second off, free taco fridays are a great way to end the week with friends. Their beer selection is very nice, and the place has a very down to earth vibe about it. Also, the bartenders know how to pour beer mixtures, and do them properly. Great place, great times. read more

Enjoyed a decent lunch here with "the girls". We were greeted and seated quickly. Drinks arrived momentarily even though they were very busy that day. I had a seared ahi sandwich, done perfectly, and a good-sized piece o' fish, at that. What else can you say about fruit salad, except that it tasted fresh? Only one person in our party didn't care for her taco salad...don't think it was what she was expecting. Kudos to the waitstaff for graciously fitting in 2 latecomers to our party. Would like to come back again for dinner and check out the upstairs or bar areas that others have commented on. read more

3, 3, 3 bars in one!!!! Charley's was a staple during the college years. Whether it was seeing music down in the main hall, grabbing a quick pint at the Exchange Pub, or tying one on at the Zane Grey, Charley's always felt like home. The food is a great and the atmosphere is unmatched in the city. They've got a large selection of beers on tap and the bartenders know how to pour a proper drink. If you're looking for a bit of the old west and something to quench your thirst/hunger, Charley's is a can't miss stop in Flagstaff. read more

I give this place 5 stars for service and only 3 stars for the food. They gave us peaches and cream to start with our coffee. And then we ordered the cinnamon pancakes with the eggs, bacon & toast breakfast. the location is great being right in the heart of downtown flagstaff. I may have to come back and try this place for lunch or dinner. The portions are good where you can share the half stack of pancakes. read more

Charly's - Peaches and cream with our coffee. - Pubs Near Me - Flagstaff, Arizona

This place rocks! The food is fantastic: rich and flavorful. The owners have been in business for decades. You can't go wrong with Charly's!

I went to Charly's for dinner on a Thursday night. I was seated outside, which I was very happy about. I was told if I got cold, they would be happy to move me inside, but it was perfect. Dylan was my server. He told me he usually does the breakfast crowd. Since it was National Bourbon Day, I wanted an Old Fashioned. I found out they had Bulleit Rye, which I love in my Old Fashioneds. It was the BEST O.F. I have ever had. The bartender did not muddle anything in the bottom, which I prefer - he did use sugar and bitters, just the perfect amount. And it was evident that he ran the orange peel around the rim of the glass and just twisted it to get some of the oils on top. I told Dylan to tell the bartender I thought it was PERFECT. I ordered the steak dinner, and chose the French Onion soup. It came out very hot, with a couple croutons on top, smothered in cheese. It smelled wonderful. I am VERY picky about French Onion soup, and I was pleasantly surprised. The broth was hearty and NOT salty (a common problem), and although the onions were not sliced on a mandolin, they were cooked through and not chewy at all (another common problem). I ate every last drop, and asked Dylan to give my compliments to whoever made the soup. I ordered my steak medium, but it really came out more well done than I usually like it. But, it was very tender and flavorful, so I saw no need to send it back. The mashed potatoes were real, with bits of skin (yummy) and the veggies were sauteed perfectly. It was a wonderful dinner, and Dylan was attentive and a perfect server! read more

Really I'd go 3.75 stars, but I'll bump them to 4. Located in the lobby of the Weatherford Hotel the decor is very charming and it's a comfortable atmosphere. We arrived and there was a group of "mature" gentlemen at another table discussing how they were going to vote in the election. I get the sense that's the kind of place it is - a gathering place for folks to linger, chat and discuss. Service was charming but rather slow, especially considering there were only about 3 tables occupied and the voters finished and left before our food arrived anyhow. The food was o.k. Nicely presented and the powdered sugar on the pancakes was a nice touch as was the complimentary peaches and cream appetizer. read more

Stopped by here during a weekend trip to Flagstaff. Server was attentive and food was filling. Ate there with my husband and daughter. Love that they have a kid menu available. Navajo taco is huge but delicious! Also tried polote for the first time - it did not disappoint. Husband got chicken sandwich and I got a salad with shrimp. Large selection of salad dressing. Loved the apple cider vinaigrette. Overall, good service, good food, good drinks. Would come back. read more

I had Aspen Chicken sandwich. I added a touch of mustard to give it a little extra; the chicken did require more seasoning/salt to bring the flavors alive hence the 4stars. Hubby had Cody's fish tacos, ZERO complaints/critiques. The entire dish has fantastic! The service is friendly and attentive. read more

I agree with Ben S.--Charly's falls somewhere between 3.5 and 3.75 stars, but I will bump up the rating for the location and charming, laid-back ambiance. Good pricing on drinks and food, but food was just okay and service was mediocre (I think they were understaffed that evening). It was a busy night, with lots of people on the second floor and they only had one server, who doubled as the bartender and cashier. This place is located within an old, Victorian looking hotel down in the main street area. Very old Americana look and feel to the hotel which was cool. The second floor has an indoor area as well as a wrap-around balcony where it was great to have a drink and look out over the rest of old town flagstaff. They had live music which was another plus. Good experience and a fun hang-out spot! read more

Only rating as a bar. Really cool place to have a drink. Steeped in tradition and you can feel that as soon as you arrive. It has great memorabilia everywhere and wickedly strong cocktails. Headed upstairs for a great view over Flagstaff, will defiantly head back for a drink or two! read more

The only times I really eat here is for munchies with drinks. The nachos and sliders are the best! But on occasion, on days that I crave French onion soup, this is where I can get it! Tons of good crusty and bubbly cheese with the delish onion broth that is flavorful and never want of seasoning. It comes with the house brown bread that is so good. It sounds silly, but they have tomato salad dressing that I LOVE, and so my usual meal is the soup and a salad. An excellent meal at that! read more

Beautiful historic setting. Really good French Onion Soup. Friendly service. The rest is forgettable with very long wait times. Have a bowl of soup on the sidewalk and you will be perfectly happy and full. read more

The family (dog included) spent the day in Flagstaff getting away from the heat in the Valley. We tried several places that we were told were dog friendly but were turned away. We stumbled across Charly's while exploring the Heritage Square area. The staff gladly accomodate us and our large dog. We had a great meal and a much needed beer. The service was outstanding as was the food. read more

Great Sunday Funday spot. Found a table on the little patio with a great view of the mountain and people watching. Service was awesome!! He didn't let our drinks get too low before asking about a refill. Pitcher of water in the summer heat was a nice touch. Macho Nachos are a must for a shared app! And the beer selection was on point. Great spot for locals or tourists!! read more

Man I miss this place. Located inside The Weatherford Hotel, this is a great casual bar that offers some amazing views on the balcony. Over summer me and the friends would come here and hang out for hours. Its a great place to enjoy the wonderful Flagstaff summer weather and it's a good bar to escape the madness going on downtown on weekends as well. The food is solid, not spectacular, but it's a great spot to hang out. They have live music occasionally and the hotel is very spacious so if upstairs isn't your thing you can check out downstairs as well. Rumors are the hotel is haunted, so they have that going for them. Definitely check this place out if you're downtown with nothing else to do! read more

Waited to get on the waitlist servers walked past us multiple times and finally stopped and said its going to be 20 minutes then walked away. Few minutes later another party comes up and the server takes about 5 minutes and then stops tells them its 10 minutes and then asks their name puts them on a list. We go to double check if we are actually on a list being no one asked our names. Severs pass us multiple times and don't stop to ask if we need anything. Everyone seated is waiting for checks and is obviously upset. I understand being understaffed but if you are running a business and have time to pass by customers you have time to stop. Will not be trying this restaurant read more

Navajo taco should be called Navajo Tostada. Kind of like an elephant ear with taco dressing on it. Seemed ok and worth a try. Sounds more interesting with the zagat recommendation. The food was great but we had some issues with the service. When we first arrived we were told there would be a 20 minute wait. That was fine so we took a seat. After 15 minutes two couples come in and the host says there is a 20 minute wait, but they can sit in the bar area now if they want. We immediately went to the host to ask if we can sit in the bar area too and he said sure. Not sure why he didn't tell us about it sooner or at least apologize for making us wait. It was kind of weird. The Navajo taco was pretty awesome, so I might give them another chance next time we are in town. read more

I called to put in my take out order at 15 minutes till 5 PM. After a few "Ums", "I'm not sure's" and "I'll have to put you on hold", I was told I would have to call back at 5 and put my order in with the bartender: Torrey. I arrived at around 5:05 and my order was submitted by 5:15. My order took around 20 minutes. Not too unreasonable of a wait time. I should have checked the order while still in the restaurant. I was nearly to my destination at a traffic signal when I thought to check my order. They had given me Buffalo Wings instead of the BBQ wings I had ordered. I pulled over and called them. I spoke to Sam, she said to bring the incorrect order back in. I asked her to put in the correct order. I hoped that would reduce the wait time. I arrived around 6:10 to find the order had not been put in. The other bar staff personnel assisted me. Torrey didn't say anything. The corrected order came out at around 6:25 or so. This time I thought to check the container and discovered they had neglected to add the celery and carrots. After this - the wait staff assisting me apologized for the wait. By the time I reached my car it was 6:37 and home it was after 7:00 PM. Nearly two hours later. My husband has GERD and cannot eat this type of meal late. With the exception of the wings all of the other food was cold. We had ordered the mini burgers called sliders, at Charley's specifically because they were described as char-grilled. I sample one on the way home; they tasted pan fried. The chicken wings, while warm, were just ...well...warm. Not hot and they had just come out of the kitchen. Not particularly tender and not cooked in the sauce. I expected a crisp exterior. It appears the wings were pre-cooked, heated and then the sauce applied. The sauce was NOT cooked on the wings. There were exactly 14 of them in the order. That's 6 down from the 20 or so I thought they used to have in their platter. The current time is 7:49 and I'm thinking I might as well put the food in the garbage. I've lived in Flagstaff since 1998. I have come to Charley's a handful of times and have never had a good experience there. Reading through the older reviews it appears the timing of the food delivery, food prep, food storage, drink refilling and the general lack of professionalism on the parts of the wait staff have been pervasive issues at this place. This would be indicative of a need for better management. Coming to think of it I don't believe I can recall the presence of a manager whenever I've been there. I don't imagine the food service manager reads these reviews. That is a shame as it's a great opportunity to get feedback from the diners. The restaurant may have the location going for it, however ,were this my restaurant I would worry about becoming too complacent. read more

The food was good but the services was not. There were only a couple of people in there when we went in for breakfast. We ordered the Navajo Taco, French Toast, and Pancakes. It took forever to get our drinks (tea and coffee) and then took a really long time to get our food. The waitress was not interested in being there. When she brought our bill, she didn't bother to clear away any of our dirty plates. When she came back to pick up the credit card she still didn't clear anything. I'm giving it three stars because the food was good but the staff sure could use some training. read more
