It's a nice place to sit outside with the pooches, but I wasn't too impressed with the food. It was ok, but nothing that memorable. We started with the French onion soup. It was served warm, but I like my soup served hot, very hot, and the temp was just above lukewarm. The broth was tasty, but the onions, well let's just say they were not cut correctly for French onion soup, they were in huge quartered chunks... someone was lazy in the kitchen, then there was the cheese...OMG I think you could have strung it across the street like a rubber band and stopped traffic. Way too much cheese. I love cheese but yowza!! My hubby's chicken sandwich was ok, the bread looked a little anemic, and it was certainly nothing to write home about. The tapenade, however, was quite good, very flavorful and a more than generous portion. I like Charly's bar, we play pool there every now and then and the atmosphere is nice and laid back, I'll just skip the restaurant for a meal, but I may get that tapenade again! read more

Breakfast here= GROSS. Mimosas=DELISH! Do not order their potatoes as a side here see if there is a substitute before you dive into some of their stale home fries or diced potatoes. I really wish they would just make hash browns those would have been so much better. I ordered an omelet and the waitress didnt ask me what kind of cheese i had wanted and i totally spaced about asking. I went here for my 21st birthday. The bartender checked my ID and it took awhile because I just turned 21 half an hour ago. He just smiled. Had breakfast here with the beau while on vacation in Flagstaff. Nice setting inside the Hotel Weatherford. The menu was on the small side, but adequate for breakfast -- about 10 or so breakfast offerings and many in a Southwest style. The restaurant (and hotel) are quaintly Victorian with high ceilings, historic photos on the walls and rich carpets and wallpapers. The place was clean and well-staffed. While we waited for our orders the server brought us complimentary shot glasses of canned peaches with whipped cream & a sprinkling of cinnamon. That was a nice, unexpected touch. I got huevos rancheros that were served with a huge, hot fresh flour tortilla the size of a truck steering wheel! The BF ordered some egg dish that came with a HUGE thick, juicy ham steak. Both were excellent and I can't say anything bad about the food. His freshly squeezed OJ was weak and kind of bitter but that happens sometimes with fresh oranges and the server took it back and comped it. It was quiet in there today but we were very late for lunch and way too early for dinner. We stopped in for a nite to eat and to escape the bad weather. The main dining area was closed so we ate in the bar area. I had the Hotel Club sandwich....chicken, ham, cheese on a brioche bun. It was fantastic! The fries were crispy and the sauce on the side was fantastic. My coworker had the veggie burger with French onion soup on the side. He was pleased with both. Even after dipping. Manager never came out to apologize. We just came from Las Vegas and Boulder. This place can't hold a candle to them. My advice, Stay Away. read more

Charly's has the best Nacho's ever! Don't order anything else. The entire menu could just be 2 items. Small Nacho's or Macho (Large) Nacho's. Small is good for 2, Macho is great for 3-4 people as a meal. If they didn't have Nacho's I would probably never eat here, period. When I give up dairy, I stop coming. Real cheese, Guacamole, sour creme, black beans, jalepenos, chips. I would rate the food here 1 star if it weren't for amazing nachos. We tell everyone about the nachos and bring our friends. We made reservations to make the 9:00pm dinner but it has now been 1:18 hours and I haven't eaten anything because I'm staring at an empty table and no service. Food: well...hmmm taste non-existent. I mean this is basically as much service as you would get knocking back a few Budweisers with the boys in the back hovering over some ribs on the Barbie Atmosphere: there was an excellent band playing until they decided to move downstairs so now we're listening to mellow and depressing stereo music. Overall impressions: I think this place is on to a new concept of a imagine it all in your head restaurant. Me and the boys are headed to chilij's. At least there we can have a proper night out. This is the first time in my life I have ever left a restaurant without paying, the experience was that bad. I feel terrible leaving a bad review because the staff, while completely absent and inattentive, WERE at least very friendly (when they could be found at all). Unfortunately that's the only positive thing I can say about the experience here. We showed up for a late breakfast around 10:30 am, and were seated promptly. Our waitress stated she wasn't in fact a waitress but would take our order anyway (??). We ordered very basic dishes, eggs with bacon, toast, etc...something that only takes a few minutes to prepare. I'd also like to point out that the entire place was empty with the exception of one person drinking coffee and reading a book. 45 minutes elapsed and we hadn't seen a single staff member since being seated. We were getting pretty hungry so I went and found a staff member to ask where the food was. 10 minutes later a new waitress came out and informed us they were out of hash browns, and offered avocado as a substitute. We said that's fine. She then returned and said they actually DID have hash browns but it would take time to prepare the potatoes. We said stick with the avocado. Around 10 minutes later (a full hour after being seated), our food finally arrived....lukewarm. As we began to eat, I looked down and noticed a large black hair in the food. At this point we stopped eating and decided to leave. I went to the front desk and informed the staff member we would not be paying and the service was horrible. She apologized for what happened (she was very friendly, and I tried to be as polite as possible) and we left. Hopefully our experience was a one-off, because I DO see some other positive reviews, though they seem very hit-or-miss. My recommendation? Hit up literally ANY of the other great diners or restaurants in Flagstaff where you'll get much better service and food. read more

My girlfriend brought me on a date here and their steak is delicious! A pretty big steak and cooked to order. I loved the au jus sauce that it came with, very flavorful. The mash potatoes was pretty good too. A bit pricey, but it was steak. The big disappointment was the bar. The kilt-lifter was good, but its beer... can't mess that up.. or can you? Their Guinness was super flat and was just not satisfying. The worst pint of Guinness I have ever had. I was also not a fan of their plastic cups that they served our beers in. Specific review for the Zane Grey Ballroom patio area, has that wrap around porch/veranda reminiscent of Bourbon Street, three floors up. Being there on a Saturday night, it was PACKED and the waiter service was slow as molasses in January. I ordered a veggie burger (decent, nothing amazing then again always hard pressed to find a stellar Veg Burger) and a side salad (gotta save carb room for drinking!) I felt bad for the waitress as she was the only one serving the upstairs, so needless to say our food took FOREVER, but she was friendly so it was fine. Limited space + an itty-bitty shower are completely made up for in kitsch + historic appeal here. This bar/hotel (only 11 rooms!) was the perfect place to stay for a Saturday night in downtown Flagstaff: It's within walking distance of countless bars, little shops + weekend events. Granted, there's limited parking so you have to catch it right, otherwise it's a trek. I wish the weather would've cooperated to enjoy the wrap around porch, but the second floor bar was warm + cozy.
