We stopped at the Flagstaff Visitor Center and inquired about a good place for breakfast and the lady recommended Charly's. It was just a short walk off of the main street. I was immediately impressed by the historic building. Let me begin by saying, old buildings fascinate me. Restored historic buildings are on the top of my list and the Weatherford Hotel is amazing. Back to Charly's......The outside seating was filled up so we went in and were seated, by a very nice young lady, in the center dining room. Our server, Ben, was very attentive and prompt. Our drinks came quickly as did our breakfast. We both ordered the $8.00 "traditional" breakfast of eggs and hash browns and toast. I got the additional $2.00 bacon. The eggs were done to order and the portions were more than adequate. The bacon was crisp as ordered. They had no white toast so we ordered the wheat toast. Slices were rather thick but good. Only problem was they were dry. No butter. Not sure if that was normal. Didn't ask, just loaded up on the jelly. Food was very good and Ben's service was excellent. The atmosphere in the old building was fantastic. After eating we wandered through the building taking photographs. That was the highlight of my whole experience. The people who restored this building did an extraordinary job. We will definitely go back again when we are in Flagstaff. read more

Decided to pop in for happy hour and watch the Thursday night football game. It's a very cute, old bar. It seemed like the people who were there were daily regulars and were definitely having a good time, which gave the small space good energy. The bartender was very friendly and helpful. I ordered a few of their $3 happy hour well vodka drinks (what a deal!), the spinach and artichoke dip (dip was ok, but the tortillas chips were very good and fresh). When I come back I will probably just come in for happy hour cocktails and the good vibes the place gives off. read more

So, we have tried this place a few times now and one thing simply hasn't changed. The bad service! Honestly, the food is pretty good and they have a decent selection of beers. But OMG, the device has always been lousy. Every server we have had has been forgetful, slow, or simply "no-good." It's such a shame because they have the perfect location and a great patio. Even the restaurant has a cool atmosphere. I just wish the servers were better. read more

I went here for my 21st birthday. The bartender checked my ID and it took awhile because I just turned 21 half an hour ago. He just smiled. So I thought maybe it was unusual for people to hit the bar once they turn 21. I must be a crazy person. Too excited to become 21. I like the furniture design. It's so nice! It wasn't as crowded on a Wednesday night/Thursday morning. The service was pretty cool. I had fun on my birthday! My friend and i had the same birthday so we got a free drink (both splitting it). read more

Have absolutely loved my experience here at The Weatherford and Charly's. It's my first time in Flagstaff & I love the eclectic scene & the historical country western vibe. Our bartender Lauren at Charly's took great care of my boyfriend and I and we loved our drinks & the amazing live music by Dave Bowman. Would definitely recommend a stay here and a pop in at Charly's! Cheers! read more

Had breakfast here with the beau while on vacation in Flagstaff. Nice setting inside the Hotel Weatherford. The menu was on the small side, but adequate for breakfast -- about 10 or so breakfast offerings and many in a Southwest style. The restaurant (and hotel) are quaintly Victorian with high ceilings, historic photos on the walls and rich carpets and wallpapers. The place was clean and well-staffed. While we waited for our orders the server brought us complimentary shot glasses of canned peaches with whipped cream & a sprinkling of cinnamon. That was a nice, unexpected touch. I got huevos rancheros that were served with a huge, hot fresh flour tortilla the size of a truck steering wheel! The BF ordered some egg dish that came with a HUGE thick, juicy ham steak. Both were excellent and I can't say anything bad about the food. His freshly squeezed OJ was weak and kind of bitter but that happens sometimes with fresh oranges and the server took it back and comped it. All in all, a nice, upscale place for breakfast with interesting street views, solid food offerings and great service. read more

It was quiet in there today but we were very late for lunch and way too early for dinner. We stopped in for a nite to eat and to escape the bad weather. The main dining area was closed so we ate in the bar area. I had the Hotel Club sandwich....chicken, ham, cheese on a brioche bun. It was fantastic! The fries were crispy and the sauce on the side was fantastic. My coworker had the veggie burger with French onion soup on the side. He was pleased with both. Service was a little slow considering you could count on one hand how many guests were there but I would still go back next time I am in the area. read more

What a phenomenal find! Everything about this place, the ambiance, the service, the staff, and the food, was excellent. We had the posole with chips to start. This was full of flavor but a big portion so be careful if you're getting a meal as well. The Navajo Taco was delicious. I added chicken which was perfectly seasoned. Oh, and their patio is dog friendly. Don't miss this historic spot! read more

We came by for my son's birthday lunch. We were surprised by the good food ... at a pub. I had the nachos and my son had the fish tacos. Cocktails were moderately priced. The bartender was attentive and offered my son a complimentary birthday cocktail. We will be back to this nice cozy hideaway. read more

This use to be our favorite place for date night. They had a great selection for dinner with the best prime rib/fish meals around. They got rid of all the good items and now it is just your average bar food that tasted awful. We will not come back. The food is really good, the waitress is SUPER sweet but we waited about 45 minutes for our food and we were the only people here. I got the hot chocolate & the Navajo Taco- both delicious! The Navajo Taco shell is like a funnel cake. The blackberry pie came out super hot but was really good as well. We tried to go upstairs to see the balcony that everyone talked about but she said it was closed (this was at noon). It is a cute little restaurant. read more

This place sucks. Waitress did not tell us the specials. Overheard another waitress tell them to the table next to us. We would have ordered one of them. Our drinks took forever. Second round of drinks took even longer. We sent our steak back twice, still came out wrong the third time. Didn't eat it. French dip sandwich had very little meat, roll was hard as a rock. Even after dipping. Manager never came out to apologize. We just came from Las Vegas and Boulder. This place can't hold a candle to them. My advice, Stay Away. read more

The hours are not accurate. We tried to get some dinner at 8:45 pm and were told they had already closed. It clearly says you are open until 10 pm. Charly's has the best Nacho's ever! Don't order anything else. The entire menu could just be 2 items. Small Nacho's or Macho (Large) Nacho's. Small is good for 2, Macho is great for 3-4 people as a meal. If they didn't have Nacho's I would probably never eat here, period. When I give up dairy, I stop coming. Real cheese, Guacamole, sour creme, black beans, jalepenos, chips. I would rate the food here 1 star if it weren't for amazing nachos. We tell everyone about the nachos and bring our friends. Last time we added a side of flautas, they came cold and undercooked. Don't say I didn't warn you. read more

I came in here for the New Year's Eve pine cone drop. We made reservations to make the 9:00pm dinner but it has now been 1:18 hours and I haven't eaten anything because I'm staring at an empty table and no service. Food: well...hmmm taste non-existent. HA Service: Does this place even have restaurant staff? I mean this is basically as much service as you would get knocking back a few Budweisers with the boys in the back hovering over some ribs on the Barbie Atmosphere: there was an excellent band playing until they decided to move downstairs so now we're listening to mellow and depressing stereo music. Overall impressions: I think this place is on to a new concept of a imagine it all in your head restaurant. Me and the boys are headed to chilij's. At least there we can have a proper night out. Update: I am now intermittent fasting.... I can slowly see myself becoming a skeleton in the reflection of the window. read more

My girlfriend brought me on a date here and their steak is delicious! A pretty big steak and cooked to order. I loved the au jus sauce that it came with, very flavorful. The mash potatoes was pretty good too. A bit pricey, but it was steak. The big disappointment was the bar. The kilt-lifter was good, but its beer... can't mess that up.. or can you? Their Guinness was super flat and was just not satisfying. The worst pint of Guinness I have ever had. I was also not a fan of their plastic cups that they served our beers in. Husband fell in love with the burger here. I tend to more of a pain in the butt when it comes to eating out because I'm always on some crazy low-carb/no sugar/no starch/no dairy diet, and here's the reason I will continue to go to Charly's when I'm in Flagstaff: They accommodated me. No attitude, no painful sigh, no eye rolling. They helped me with a SMILE. I will always eat at this historic restaurant, and hangout in the awesome upstairs lounge. Great place, great service. read more

Another historic building in Flagstaff boasts casual dining and a bar with a pretty neato view of the downtown area. Specific review for the Zane Grey Ballroom patio area, has that wrap around porch/veranda reminiscent of Bourbon Street, three floors up. Being there on a Saturday night, it was PACKED and the waiter service was slow as molasses in January. I ordered a veggie burger (decent, nothing amazing then again always hard pressed to find a stellar Veg Burger) and a side salad (gotta save carb room for drinking!) I felt bad for the waitress as she was the only one serving the upstairs, so needless to say our food took FOREVER, but she was friendly so it was fine. Plus the little bar upstairs was NOT slow, so it was a good time. read more

WE DID NOT EAT HERE! We entered for brunch, it was reasonably busy but empty tables so we stood uncomfortably waiting to be seated. After being ignored repeadly, I told a waitress we wanted a table for two. Were told, to go through and check with the seater - who also was the manager. Waited at the his station, reading menu as he went past us 4-5 times before I finally had to ask him for a table. His answer "It will be about 20 mins". No apologies, no feeling like he ever wanted to sit us, more like we were an inconvenience. Despite having empty tables, they obviously are incapable of handling business. Went elsewhere and had a great coffee and breakfast burrito. read more

Limited space + an itty-bitty shower are completely made up for in kitsch + historic appeal here. This bar/hotel (only 11 rooms!) was the perfect place to stay for a Saturday night in downtown Flagstaff: It's within walking distance of countless bars, little shops + weekend events. Granted, there's limited parking so you have to catch it right, otherwise it's a trek. I wish the weather would've cooperated to enjoy the wrap around porch, but the second floor bar was warm + cozy. The hot chocolate + Bailey's didn't let me down either. I'll definitely be back! read more

For some reason, Charly's thinks that they're actually Don & Charlie's. Let me tell you something -- they're truly not. Sigh. What to say about Charly's. Or as my ex-wife and I call it, "Chewy's." Charly's food is probably a step above Carl's Jr., but at the price of Don & Charlie's. I haven't been back in about a month and a half, so maybe I'm outdated in this, but the service was piss poor. The tragedy in this was the fact our daughter was graduating N.A.U. and this was our graduation supper. Certainly a memorable one, but for all the wrong reasons. Simply put, there was cotton in the tacos. A $113 meal for four could have been put to better use. Never again. Cool lunch spot. Pretty comprehensive menu. I admit, I had a hard time deciding what to order. Then I settled on the Aspen - a chicken sandwich with guac. Seemed simple enough. I had their Soup de Jour, too, a potato cream soup. It was oh-so-yummy, esp. sitting outside on the patio in the chilly (yes!) November air. To top it off, an Apricot Ale. Soup = good! (wish I had ordered a bowl) Beer = mmm! Aspen (sandwich) = okay. I wasn't expecting having to rip the chicken breast apart with my front teeth. Price = reasonable for 2 people and a generous tip. Waiter = amusing. His blase honesty cracked me up. Location = very cool, esp. sitting outside on the patio, watching the foot traffic, listening to the sounds of a quaint little downtown. Overall = good! 4 stars. This would be a great place to check out during evening time, when you can nestle close to the bar and drink to your little heart's content. read more

For the price, totally average fare. Servers unenthused and what's up with the lack of grooming? Messy dirty facial hair. Isn't there policy on covering it up? Service was lacking. Downtown Flagstaff has this old vibe which is great. This place is part of the Weatherly Hotel, which is an amazing in itself. I came to this restaurant just because I was only here for a night and this place was recommended on Yelp. I am only rating the food here. The service and ambiance was nice, but when I am going to go get something to eat, I want the food to be at least decent. I got the spinach salad and french dip. The salad was $9, and for that price, I expect more than 20 leaves. The eggs tasted a bit old. I wasn't happy about that, but I had to eat it, as when I am on vacation, I have trouble eating veggies, so I had to finish it (not that it was hard because there was so little). The french dip was ok, even if a bit on the salty side. I'd say I'd never eat here again, but that is probably because I'll probably never go to Flagstaff again. read more
