We stopped in before going ice skating! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and asked if we were dining in. We got seated right away and our server was fantastic--really nice, efficient and observant! We ordered some sandwiches and the daily special Nashville hot chicken sandwich. The building is modern and open--well lit and has soft music playing. We started with the baked bleu cheese dip. The dip was great--didn't have an overwhelming bleu cheese taste so my daughter who hates bleu cheese actually enjoyed it too--she just avoided the bleu cheese curds. Their homemade chips (which also come with each sandwich) were nice--they come with I think Parmesan sprinkled on them but I would throw some salt on them too. The chicken salad sandwich and the Springfield bacon sandwich were OK at best. We had avocado added to both but the bread as you can see was VERY bland. Definitely could use some butter, grilling or toasting at least. The local burger was very good, cooked perfectly per request and juicy! The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was also just OK. The sauce was not great nor was it hot at all. Unfortunately the sandwich was bland too. Our server also noticed the chips on that plate seemed to come from the bottom of the "bucket" so she brought us fresh chips which was great. Alright Springfield! We were in town visiting at the hospital and decided to get a bite to eat here. Nice choice! Great beer selection and food is smack yo momma good! Stopped in here one afternoon after visiting FLW's Wescott House (worth the visit). I had a smash burger and Wifey had a fried chicken sandwich. I don't know what it is but Charlos has it. The food was great! I've been coming to Springfield for 20 years and this is the best food I've ever had here (even beating out the family cooking). There's no draft beer but I'm finding out that Ohio is not lacking for quality beer and Charlos has beers from several local(ish) breweries. The kitchen has their stuff together, man. The presentation and flavors were top notch. The plating was basic but matched the decor of the interior. I tried a little bit of everything and nothing was a miss. I know I'll be running clean up on whatever my kids order so I just got the Nashville chicken tenders as a main plate and I quite enjoyed them. I appreciate that my server indicated that some people think that they're hot and get the sauce on the side but I'm a big boy and I can handle the sauce directly on the tenders. I was looking for vegetarian options and decided to have the roasted portobello mushroom with house made ratatouille and a garden salad. The mushroom was soooooooooo good!! I didn't know what to expect but when Charlene (hope that's spelled correctly) delivered my meal it looked like a beautiful French entree. Hats off to the Chef! Presentation was exceptional and it melted in my mouth. I can't say enough how nice the staff , food and how modern the restaurant was. It was so good I regret not taking a photo. I met with some of my friends here - I'm from Columbus and they are from Cincy so we decided to meet somewhere in the middle. We had no idea about this location and since we met at a night time, we could see much in this area. There are plenty of street parking but most of them are 2 hour parking (until 6pm). The restaurant looks casual, clean and comfortable. The appetizer ranges from $10 to $15, the main (including sandwiches and salads) ranges from $12 to $28ish. Although I didn't take a picture, we shared chips with blue cheese dip. The dip has cut up bacon and green onion on top, I definitely tasted the blue cheese but not too strong. I really enjoyed my salad (it had black beans, corn, salsa, tomatoes and avocado mixed in the greens) with nice large pieces of shrimp. The service was fast and the server was friendly, though they forgot a few things and they also broke some of the Christmas decorations then they stepped right on the seat with their shoes to fix it. We were sitting right next to the seats I wish they would either wait to fix or wipe down the seats. Again, the server was nice and friendly but they kept on coming to check on us almost every 5 minutes (this was during the time we were still eating) which was a bit overwhelming. read more

My dad's family is from Springfield, and I grew up visiting the China Buffet and Duffs whenever I'm in town. I've been happy to watch the downtown revival happening over recent years, including this new (2022) restaurant. We were prepping for an upcoming trip and Yelp pointed us to Charlo's. We arrived on a Friday around 7:30 and the place was busy, but not too full. We were seated quickly. A good selection of canned craft beers and wine were available and waitstaff kept our glasses full. There was plenty on the menu to choose from, and I had a difficult time deciding while we enjoyed the Baked Bleu Cheese dip appetizer with fresh, homemade chips. I eventually landed on the Shrimp & Grits which did not disappoint, and had a good amount of seasoning and heat. Others at my table tried the burger, Angry chicken tenders, and grilled cheese, and all were great - no leftovers! Service was attentive and friendly, and the staff all seemed to be working together to provide the best possible guest experience. The dining room and restrooms were spacious and clean. We'll be back when in town again. This isn't just "Springfield 5-stars" good, it's anywhere 5-stars good! read more

quaint little spot downtown. we started our meal with the blue cheese dip which was pretty delicious. my wife had a cobb salad which looked amazing but the chicken was over cooked and extremely dry. i had the catfish with succotash and grits. the catfish was cooked great. it wasn't greasy or overcooked. the other components of the dish however were not as good. those grits were a sham and the succotash needed seasoning. the service was ok but felt the food came out slow for us being the only ones in there. and there were one two many flying insects that were quite bothersome while trying to enjoy our meal. if i wanted that problem i could have ate outside. read more

While visiting my son at Cedarville University, I wanted to take him off campus for non cafeteria food for dinner. The short drive from campus to Springfield was worth it. Charlos is a clean restaurant that has a local feel. I was concerned about time since we had somewhere to be after dinner, but our server was attentive and prompt!
