The seating area was mostly empty as customers were getting delivery orders or carry out. It was well after the lunch rush so they had few patties available. The baked patties I tried were fish, and were extremely similar to a tuna melt and far larger than I expected as I was used to fried patties. The space was designed for efficiency and the moment I completed my patties the main course I had ordered of Goute was ready, realizing I had asked for way too much food for one sitting I asked for a box and the chef quickly brought one and boxed it herself for me to ensure everything travelled and reheated well. The pork (goute) was crisp and refreshing, served with plantains, Russian salad, spicy coleslaw, and some type of noodle dish. This is a WONDERFUL choice for FRESH, delicious entrees, snacks, along with an extra serving of open-mindedness and empathy. You already know that the "Field of Springs" became the hub of "temporary" insanity during this recent election "season." Forget about ALL that (no, don't... but that's a separate messssssage!!) and come here for some WONDERFUL, unique food and a cultural experience just about IMPOSSIBLE to find anywhere else for MILES.... I came in just for a quick "to go" order of their wonderfully tempting turnovers, displayed (usually later in the week...) but also got a good look at their chicken, fish, and goat entrees, which were HUGE, and definitely at least 2-3 meals. The entrees come with rice, salad (a spicy hot slaw) and fried plantains. It's EXTREMELY rare that I'll eat meat these days (loooong, boring story...) but I shared some AMAZINGLY delicious goat meat during my recent visit there, and I'm HOOKED. Everything is super fresh, so they seem to run out of some "staples" occasionally, but whatever you choose, it'll be GREAT, and the (inevitable) leftovers just as good!! Don't get me STARTED about the politics of the whole Haitians in Springfield ISSUE, you MIGHT (or might not...) be surprised by what I have to say. All I will say is that this is a WONDERFUL, unassuming, "hole in the wall" treasure of a restaurant, thrust suddenly into the spotlight, and handling the "hoopla" with grace and professionalism. There IS a bit of a language barrier... HINT: If you speak SPANISH (and/or French, of course!!) it'll be smoooooth sailing. A little expensive, but I did have goat strew with plantains around a mound of black wild rice, so not outrageous for the amount and quality of food. So, I would go back if I were by myself or with someone who was up for spinning the restaurant roulette wheel, but not with anyone who wanted to actually pick anything out. LOL. This was my first time to try Haitian food. We got the chicken and the fish. They were out of goat. The fish is amazing, the presentation is wonderful. I did not like the slaw, too spicy, it doesn't look like it would be spicy but it is. They were busy, so plan on ordering and waiting 10min for your order to be made. They have a cooler with different Haitian drinks to try too. Plantain are wonderful, I learned to warm up any leftover plantain pieces in the toaster. read more

I was out exploring and decided to stop by. I recommend the Rice & Bean with Griot (pork) with Pikliz (Spicy Coleslaw). The beef patty was good, but skip the herring one! For three of us, we ordered 3 meals. But we easily would have had plenty to eat with two meals. The goat stew was excellent--a must order. If you're new to goat, and want a bit less of it, the vegetable stew, which had a goat meat base, was also terrific. And the whole fish meal was huge and tasty, although I think the fish may have previously been frozen. All were accompanied by either white or brown "dirty" rice and fried plantains. Order at either the counter or at the table, for polite service. We heard about this Haitian-style restaurant all the way in California due to the crazies in the news and knew we needed to visit when in Ohio. It was unassuming, simple but pleasant, and a great way to sample Haitian food. Would definitely return. read more

I had been meaning to go to show support for the restaurant a couple of months ago. Finally went at the end of November. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. The restaurant is in a strip mall. It has plenty of room with about 20-30 four tops. If you go, be sure to have an appetite because the portion sizes are huge. You could probably split one dish between two people. I had the goat stew dish, which came with black beans and black rice. The stew can be eaten separately or over the rice-which was how I ate it. The meat was very tender. I'd not had goat meat before, but the way it was prepared it was more tender than the beef in some beef stews. It had a little heat, but it wasn't overpowering. I also had a spicy slaw called Pikliz. It was spicy, but I like spicy. It also came with a simple salad and I ordered fried plantains as a side. The 4 plantains were very good. All in all, the food was great, and the service was excellent. You won't be disappointed. read more
