If you didn't already know, here's a fun food fact: Charleston's is part of Hal Smith Restaurant Group, a family of eateries that boasts Redrock Canyon Grill, Mahogany Prime Steakhouse, Louie's Grill and Bar, Upper Crust Wood Fired Pizza and Toby Keith's I Love this Bar and Grill, to name a few. Now, we aren't lucky enough to have all of these in Wichita, so when I visited OKC over fall break, I was overwhelmed with all the great options. First stop was Charleston's and it was wonderful! Walt's Champagne Chicken Salad, a heaping plate with a bed of romaine, smoked chicken, pineapple, strawberries, dates, candied pecans, feta and a champagne vinaigrette was so good, I think about it almost daily. Did I mention the fresh, hot, honey-drizzled croissant that comes with it? To die for! Excellent food, friendly service, overall a great casual upscale restaurant that I can't wait to visit again! read more

Charleston's is like your favorite TV show that you've seen over and over again. It's not going to blow you away and you certainly won't be surprised, but you keep coming back because it's that good. This place is a medium sized chain (there are around 20 in 4 states) that started in Oklahoma. It's above average casual dining and I can see why it remains popular after so many years. This location is large. There is a dining room with many booths and stand alone tables, and a large bar with seating on all sides, plus booths lining the perimeter of the room. The beer/liquor selection is nothing to write home about, but it's better than most of the other options on Ed Noble Parkway, which are highway food like Applebee's and Chili's. Charleston's is famous for a couple of items: baked potato soup and chicken tenders. The baked potato soup is a solid version of this classic soup. It's on the thicker side, which I prefer, and it comes loaded with cheese, bacon, and scallions. The toppings are the best part of a baked potato, and the people at Charleston's know it. The chicken tender platter is ENORMOUS. I think it's around $15, but it can easily feed two, or one very hungry person. The tenders are thick and fried perfectly, I literally have never had a bad one. They are juicy, the breading is crunchy, but not too thick, and it's seasoned properly. They are great with BBQ sauce, honey mustard, or nothing. As I get older I order chicken tenders (or fingers, or strips) less and less often. But, I have to have Charleston's a couple of times a year, and I can't think of any other chicken tenders I feel this way about. They are just a very solid version of this dish that is usually for children, but I do not care when I order it at Charleston's. Charleston's has the typical array of steaks, prime rib, and grilled chicken choices. I've had the prime rib, and it's solid. It would be average in Vegas, where nearly everyplace does prime rib, but in Oklahoma it's above average for sure. And, you get a nice healthy slab. I've had a number of burgers, sandwiches, and salads as well. Again, never disappointed, but never blown away. This isn't creative food, but it's very good in quality and execution. Service is always good. There are plenty of servers, particularly during dinner service. So, if your drink goes empty, there is never a time when an employee isn't close enough to ask. I've been coming to this Charleston's since before I could drive myself to the restaurant, and I will continue to eat here. Like I said, you won't be blown away by the menu, but there is only a small chance you will leave unhappy with your meal. read more

We lucked into Charleston's after trying to get into BJ's next door on OU graduation weekend. BJ 's was way too crowded and luckily Charleston's was able to seat us within 5 minutes or so. I came in with low expectations thinking this is just a chain with mediocre food on a busy weekend. However, due in part to the friendly and efficient wait staff, our group of 8 celebrating my niece's graduation had a very good meal and celebration. We enjoyed a chilled champaigne toast and the food was well prepared. I had the babyback ribs and would recommend them. They were tender and infused with a delicious bbq grilled flavor. The portions were large for everyone in our party and all enjoyed what they ordered. As the other reviewers note, their house salads are excellent. A surprisingly good experience for us and I am grateful to Charleston's for providing us with a better than expected graduation celebration! read more

I love this restaurant. My family often orders on pick up, and we get soup and salads, and they're delicious. Their dishes are all made extremely well. The staff is also really nice and they always ask how your day is, and it feels like they care which is always nice. It's always kind of funny because they constantly refill your drinks, even if you've only taken a sip or two--maybe not even any! I would give this 5 stars because it was absolutely DELICIOUS, but I definitely got food poisoning from this food. I ordered the Champagne Chicken Salad which was delicious - but it must've given me the food poisoning because no one else in the group ate it. The shrimp appetizer was buttery and rich. I guess if I didn't have such high expectations i would have thought Charleston's was better. But my little bro kept talking it up like it was on par with Capital Grill or Ruth's Chris. Not so. It is a decent place, but its more like a Firebirds than anything else...or as my sister put it a cross between Ruth's Chris and Houlihan's! The steak was delectable, cooked to order and very thick, damn good. The mashed potatoes were really great as well. And Charleston's has a very casual atmosphere with a nice mix of OU students and travelers passing by on the Highway, or staying at one of the nearby hotels. Very Convenient and very good. If you don't go in expecting a high dollar steak place, then you will love Charleston's because honestly the food is great, the staff is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. read more

I gave it 4 stars only because I'm of the opinion that people should go locally owned when they can. I haven't had a bad experience at a Charleston's, though. My husband and I had parents in town visiting and were not sure where to take them and a friend recommended Charleston's. We went here for dinner and it was a busy Friday night. I love that they use the app that helps you see your spot in line. It makes the waiting seem a little easier when we knew how many parties were in front of us. We were seated within thirty minutes and our server came promptly to the table to get our drink order. We ordered some side salads and soup with our meals and those all came out before our meal. Overpriced and bland. Too many servers not on the same page. Went there for the first time today... and the last time. $17 for an Au Jus sandwich?!?!?! Are you freaking crazy, that better be on good MF Sandwich. Ordered chips and queso, $7 my mom asked for an extra serving of salsa( which had way to many onions, or was just old and overpowered by the onions) The second server wanted to charge for a second serving. Then the second server came back and said the second cup was free, but if we got a third they would charge. At the prices they charge for the entrees all salsa should be free. I found a hair in the chips, sent them back via the first server. Third server(manager brought out fresh hot chips and apologized). Fourth server brought out my entree and asked if my mom ordered anything. Waited about 5 to 10 minutes for my Mom's $9 burger to arrive, can't remember which server brought that out to her. I ordered one of the specials shrimp, asparagus, green peppers and red peppers over linguini with a pesto sauce. Bland!! Tiny leftover looking pieces of asparagus ends and bell peppers. Above average chain restaurant experience. Charleston's in Norman does a very good job providing outstanding ambience. The food is good, but for the price it doesn't measure up. The service is consistently excellent, And that is probably the best argument I can make for this restaurant. Update: I added another star to my review. I wanted to give credit where it is due. There are only a handful of restaurants in Norman offering prime rib for dinner, and Charleston's serves it properly. The list of wines is not extensive, but all of them are reasonably priced. The service seems to be on the upswing. The current management seems to be making a serious effort. read more

Charleston's is delicious, convenient, and the price is right. The atmosphere is quite nice, the location (right by the interstate) is great and the food is good. Charleston's has been a staple in Norman, Oklahoma for years. They carry a wide variety of American cuisine and great Southern dishes. I say Southern dishes, because I no longer live in the South so when I can get my fave Southern dishes I really appreciate them. Charleston's has fried okra on the menu--that is right FRIED OKRA! It was delicious.....served wtih a side of ranch dressing. I live in Chicago now where most people do not even know what Okra is. NO YOU NORTHERNERS OKRA IS NOT A WOMAN WITH A TALK SHOW! UGH! What happened to this place? I came in at 11:30 on a weekday and there were maybe 4 people in the entire place. The waiter only told me of one special but told the elderly couple behind me of more specials; and fawned over them. I ordered The chicken piccata with green beans. I was not offered or suggested any starters. The green beans still tasted frozen but in a garlic butter sauce, and there was not enough Caper butter sauce on the place to keep the angel hair pasta from drying out. It did have a nice amount of colorful vegetables though. The waiter sat the check down at the table within 5 minutes of my plate arriving! There was food garbage (pasta dropped on the table) on the table and another waiter came and wiped it off for me. Even though it was there when the waiter dropped off the check. My tea glass sat Half empty for quite sometime without any attention and when it was completely empty, it still took some time for a refill; despite the waiter walking past me numerous times to get to other tables. I was not offered dessert or another glass of wine. I was not offered a to-go box for the large amount of left over food. The couple behind me was offered to go boxes and to go drinks and dessert. The waiter fawned over every table except for mine. I was willing to spend a bit of money on lunch but it was not wanted. Apparently if you are a table for one they can't get you out the door fast enough. Very disappointed in the entire experience. I haven't been here in years and it used to be the best place in Norman. I'm sure I can find other places that actually want my business and don't treat me like a leper ( no offense to those with leprocy). read more

We are Charleston fans. If we have an options we choose Charleston's. Our favorites are the Salmon and Potato Soup. The salmon is consistently great and the sides are a great compliment. Food and service was outstanding. As much as servers hate large parties (need to turn tables for tips) our server did a wonderful job in pleasing 10 individuals. No add on gratitudity like a lot of places with over . We appreciated the trust that we take care of our server and we did (everyone should). We enjoyed Charleston's. Looked like a nice restaurant with friendly service. However, a Bartender name Sydney intervened and provided the worst service I've experienced in a restaurant in the past 8 years. In all of my years as a mystery diner, she did everything wrong from the way she talked to me and got annoyed when I asked the details of the appetizer- I'm not sure why I ask about the dessert menu as she was just as rude. I took a picture of my empty ice water glass and started a timer to see how long it would sit empty before she came over to me. 9 minutes before she even looked over my way. Needless to say, there was only 3 other people that she was attending to. If she would have stayed off her cell phone, maybe she would have seen that I had an empty glass of water as I tried to eat my shrimp appetizer. I was ready to pay my check and leave without the food when Brad Michael/Executive GM came over. I introduced myself to him earlier and complimented him on the kitchen, environment and the service up to that point. I had to literally beg Sydney for a recommendation from the dessert menu. I will never go back to a Charlestons restaurant because of the service that i received. I honestly thought I found a new place to recommend to my friends, family and employees. We've been coming to this Restaurant for years! Despite its size, it's very intimate. The food is wonderful, in fact, everything on their menu is delicious. The wait staff is professional, courteous, and very friendly. The practice very good COVID restrictions and we have never been disappointed with a meal there. Interestingly, the wait staff all wear black so they're only shadows that pass by which only adds to the intimacy. Empty glasses, discarded straw wrappers are removed and you only notice (if you do) that a slight shadow passed by, ordinarily, drink refills happen just as ghostly. It's our go-to quiet night out restaurant and we unconditionally recommend it. The French Dip is awesome. The Pork chops are lovely and the honey glazed carrots are to die for. On our last visit, you can tell that they have less staffing, as the service was slower; but make no mistake, the food and atmosphere are still wonderful. The manager on Wednesday night (5/5/2021) was backing his waitstaff magnificently, and we watched as he was the hardest person working in the restaurant, the entire experience was tremendous. Definitely worth the visit!!! Came on a Saturday for lunch while shopping. Knowing it would be busy expecting a wait, but didn't. Seated immediately! Prompt , friendly service. Decided to have a full meal to last the day and ordered the Chicken Marsala, others both ordered the Chicken Enchilada Platter. Was surprised to be served quickly! The servings were very generous!!!! What a delight! My brother has been going here for a couple of years whenever he's in the area and raves about the food (especially the glazed carrots and sugar snap peas). So today, on our way from KS to TX we decided to stop. We were seated right away (even though the OU football game had ended and it looked crowded) by a very sweet hostess. Our server came to our table immediately, took our drink order and asked if we'd like to try the Cargo Shrimp appetizer (not on the menu; shrimp baked in a dish of butter, garlic and Havarti cheese, served with toasted French bread...mmm...). I ordered Chicken Piccata with Angel Hair pasta (asparagus, artichokes, diced tomatoes and capers in a light sauce) and, of course, glazed carrots. Oh my! The chicken was tender; the artichokes melted in my mouth and the carrots were sooooo yummy (just enough honey, butter and black pepper). Every bite on my plate was consumed and thoroughly enjoyed. My husband enjoyed his Champagne Chicken salad, full of mixed greens, chicken, dates, strawberries, feta cheese, pineapple and a Champagne vinaigrette. A croissant was also included; warm, buttery with a hint of sweetness. His plate was clean, too! Sadly, no room for dessert. (I would have chosen the Key Lime pie.) But, as much as we enjoyed the food, what really made Charleston's shine was the service! The wait staff were polite, helpful and extremely attentive. It was like being a guest in their home. Open on Christmas Eve! Somebody local recommended this to us when we were in town on Christmas Eve! Yes, they were open that evening. Packed with a waiting list but well worth the wait! We had the chicken fried steak which was the best chicken fried steak I can ever recall having! It was huge! The baked potato soup was fantastic! We also got the hand cut filet, medium rare and to split it between my wife and I. It was a little overdone, IMHO, and I think it was because they cut it in half and then cooked it. House salad was fantastic! So, when we go back, I will not ask them to split it between us, just bring an extra plate and will split it ourselves and update maybe to 5 stars at that time. read more

Exactly what I needed. Perfectly cooked wood-fired 7 oz filet and baked potato. The New England clam chowder and Caesar salad were best way to start at this traditional steak house here in Norman.
