Went for dinner here and it was absolutely incredible. We got the dumplings and the beef ssam and it was the perfect amount for two people. The ssam is kind of like a lettuce wrap if you want it to be, it comes with other toppings and things you can match with the meat to give very different flavors. The dumplings were huge! We were looking for something new to mix up our pandemic order in dinners. A co-worker or mine recommended Char'd and I loved the combination of small plates and Korean food. This is my new favorite option when it's been a stressful day. To say that Char'd's food is flavorful is a huge understatement. My husband and I love ordering several of the small plates and sharing. I honestly can't pick which is my favorite - the shishito cauliflower, KFC wings, and char'd dumplings are all amazing! If you like a little bit of spice and a whole lot of flavor you can't go wrong with this trio! We also loved the bugogli. The first time I came to this establishment was for a friend's birthday party. There were about 25 of us and they accommodated us in the dining area to the right after walking in. At this time I ordered the Bibimbap bowl with spicy sauce on the side. The food order came out in a timely manner for the amount of people and it was good. I really like my bowl but I felt the Korean beef portion to be small. The dish was overall very flavorful and filling! Be warned! Do not add all the hot sauce at once! Someone in this party did that and they had a really hard time eating the remainder of their food! The second time I came, I went during the start of happy hour with my significant other! It was very empty and we were seated right away. The Bibimbap bowl was offered on the menu along with other popular dishes. We ordered two bowls, kimchi disco fries, and Char'd dumplings! This time a lot of the rice at the bottom was burnt and hard to eat. While I liked the flavor of the bowl, did not like eating the rice. The fries were good and thinly shaped. Both the fries and dumplings has the same dipping sauce (crème fraîche). Really tasty! Our dumplings were topped with some garlic chili flakes but they were not too spicy. I have not returned since these last two trips. I liked the food, but I would like to try other Korean BBQ places in the Milwaukee area for comparison. Parking can be very difficult! We had to constantly ask the server for water. They were short staffed which was the only reason we had an unpleasant experience. I loved the fries but they were spicier than expected so I suggest asking for a dipping sauce. The scallion pancakes weren't exactly what I expected, they came with a lot of seafood and that wasn't super clear on the menu but they were still good. We came in around 1:40pm on Christmas Eve waiting for a host to sit us. Our reservation is not until 2pm. There were only 1-2 tables. We were standing for almost 10 minutes until a hostess came out and said "just so you know, I just got fired. There's a person coming in at 2 but for now, no one is covering." I'm sorry that happened to her on Christmas Eve but that's just unprofessional. The fact whoever fired her but still expect her to work right after is beyond my understanding. Management should have taken over her responsibility instead while she deals with her emotions. We just said thank you and walked out! Char'd used to be our favorite and I think this is it. I've walked by Char'd before, thinking it was just a bar, and I had no idea that up the stairs is a whole dining area! There are booths, long table seating, and another seating area concealed by a partition. The interior is lux and modern. I really liked the gold and navy tones, and grey dishware perfectly matched the mood. Our server was friendly and explained the menu with her recommendations to us first timers. I have had Korean bbq a few times and everything we ordered was tasty! We had the Shishito Cauliflower, KFC Wings and Char'd Dumplings for starters (off the tapas menu). KFC wings were the best! The pickled daikon radish added a great crunchy contrast. We also ordered the beef bibimbap, beef bulgogi, and the spicy chicken. The bibimpab was my favorite and the rice really crisped up the longer it was left in the ironware. I enjoyed the thinness of the bulgogi but I wish the size of the lettuce wraps was more consistent. Presentation was modern, and the lava plates kept the dishes hot! There were a few issues with secondary decor. One of the hanging plants in the bar area was mostly dead, brown and crunchy. And sadly the succulent displays were plastic. The bathroom was oddly decorated with a dusty vase of potpourri, and there were a lot of dead bugs in the lamp hanging over our table. We spoke to the manager about the bugs before we left and he was apologetic, saying it was an oversight. The decor is mostly polished and I wish more attention was paid to those few things! I will say the kombucha mule that my boyfriend ordered was by far my favorite cocktail of the two. The food was full of flavor and had a variety of individually cooked veggies/noodles that collectively brought this dish to life. The Pb&J Old Fashioned my husband had was spectacular. I had the kombucha mule made with soju. For some reason it tasted very metallic (copper mug whatever but I'm an avid mule drinker and have never had this happen) taste. I'm thinking the lemon lime kombucha was the culprit. We ordered our small plates; KFC wings, Kimchi Disco Fries (YUM!), leeky chicken, and Char'd dumplings. KFC wings: huge! Sauce was garlicky and delicious, crispy breading. Disco fries: YOU HAVE TO GET THESE! Spicy kimchi, parm crime fraîche, and crispy fries. AWESOME! Leeky chicken, probably was my second favorite; the different preparations of the leeks with the additional of spicy jalapeños and crispy fried chicken thighs, absolutely superb. Pretty good Korean food. It's more like ktown vibe kind of food. Spicy, salty, sweet food with Korean cocktails which is always good combo.

My only complaint is about our server and it isn't really a complaint. She was just not readily available when we needed her. But once we found her she was an outstanding server and person. With that said, the food was fantastic. For our first time eating here we ordered stuff just to try it. We ordered the KFC wings, Dumplings, fries, glass noodles, spicy chicken, pork bulgoi, beef bulgoi, and bimbop. I know I spelled those words wrong lol. Everything was better than expected. Heard wonderful things about Char'd and after reading reviews, I knew I had to try this place out! Not going to lie, I was definitely skeptical about Char'd at first. As someone who has experienced authentic, home-cooked Korean food, I was weary about a place that came off as "trendy." This place did NOT disappoint. The ingredients were fresh, each bite bursted with flavor, and I really wanted to try everything on the menu! I came as a group of 6, and we all ordered different things and ended up just sharing it. I ordered the happy hour super bowl with beef. I'm pretty sure this was very similar (or maybe it's the same) as the beef bibimbap. It was $10 + $3 for the beef. For non-happy hour, the bibimbap is $15. It came in a small cast iron pan thing (sorry, I'm not a chef, and not sure how else to describe it) rather than the usual Korean stonebowl. I got the spicy sauce, and it was delicious! I wish it came with more beef, but really can't complain. To be honest, I would probably order it without the beef next time and use the $3 on something else. The fried chicken here is DELICIOUS. It's pricy ($12 for 6 wings), but the wings are decently sized. Still, more than what I am used to paying for Korean fried chicken, but considering that you really can't get Korean fried chicken elsewhere in Milwaukee, I'll probably find myself paying $12 for 6 wings in the near future. The chicken was crispy and NOT try. The breading was not overwhelming, and it was not drenched/soaked in sauce. Prices are definitely more expensive than what I'm used to paying for Korean food. I would recommend coming during their happy hour (430-6) or on Sunday, where the prices are a little bit lower. Great new addition to the Third Ward! A group of 4 of us went there for dinner last night and it was such a nice evening. The interior is so fun and sophisticated. I can't wait to go back and use their sidewalk seating or sit at the bar. Great interior. We did the tapas menu and ordered 7 plates total and everything was super tasty. They know how to do sauce- dang. Each dish has some sort of sauce/dip/whatever and it was delectable. Yum. We got the char'd dumplings (our fav- ordered a second round), asparagus, bok choy stir fry, leeky chicken, KFC wings and disco fries. We also got cocktails from their signature menu and all were great. We went on a Tuesday with a reservation- which wasn't quite needed but it never hurts to have one. Their Korean-Fried-Chicken wings (tossed in sweet-spicy garlic sauce and served with pickled daikon radish) are to die for - so crunchy and flavorful (and I'm not a fried chicken fan usually.) My friends and I came here again for drink and appetizers recently. We got the Kombucha Mule, Plum Collins, and Jeju Paloma specialty cocktails - all delicious. The Shishito Cauliflower (roasted cauliflower and shishito peppers seasoned with togarash and sesame sauce, topped with paprika oil, pistachio and tempura crunch) was flavorful, but the cauliflower were too mushy. I was hoping for more crunch given the description and similar dishes from other restaurants. I'll just order other things next time :) read more

At first glance, I was excited about eating at Char'd. The atmosphere and the decor were very modern and quaint, but this is where the pleasantries end. To say the dining experience was bad would be giving this place a HUGE compliment. This place should inspire to be considered bad. The service is so awful that I wonder if they wish they were closed. I made a reservation for me and my wife because we love Korean food, and the ads for this place seemed very impressive. Upon arriving, you could immediately sense that the experience would be awful. My first impression was that the staff couldn't be bothered with "servicing" customers. The indifference was confirmed by the 15 min. wait to order drinks and then the 20 min wait to get the drinks. To order food we actually had to flag down a "waitress" to place an order (literally). The staff saw us wave at them and they kept going back and forth to the kitchen ( doing absolutely nothing ). From my observation, they seemed to have an abundance of staff but NO ONE actually working, whatever was happening in the kitchen was more important than serving customers. I'll skip the asking for things like napkins, cutlery or refill on drinks because that was an ordeal. So, I am willing to put up terrible service if the food was outstanding. Unfortunately, Char'd be mediocre at best. A true measure of food quantity is the empty plate measure, and Char'd definitely fails in this measure. If fact, I started wondering the did the chef actually taste the food. It was interesting eavesdropping on fellow diners, they were commenting on the same things we were. My only reference to Korean food was from the dozen or so trips to Korea town in LA. There you will find hundreds of authentic Korean restaurants with dozens of all you can eat bbq joints. I had researched some development of Korean flavors for a project for work and i really love the sweet spicy thing. Tonight i enjoyed my first visit to Char'd with great anticipation. Wondering if it was going to feature the beautiful marinated meats of Bulgogi or the complicated layers of flavors from Bibimbop. As it turns our dinner was excellent. We started with some house drinks. I had a Mango mojito which was excellent. For apps, we got Swiss chard, pork dumplings served with a nice spice and Yuzu creme fraiche-perfect to soothe my tingling tongue. For dinner i had Beef Galbi- another sweet and spicy dish featuring short ribs with soshito peppers (my spell check is freaking out right now). My friends had Spicy Chicken (not for sensitive pallets) which was delicious. Wow so happy i found a local place that serves great food. One of my favorite restaurants in MKE! This is a great restaurant for an "intro to Korean food" as it's a Korean contemporary place. There is a good mixture of authentic Korean dishes and flavors like the KFC and meat dishes with the ssamjang (fermented soybean paste) to more fusion dishes like the gnocchi. It's a little pricier because the ambiance is nicer and is more of a "contemporary Korean" place. THINGS YOU MUST TRY: Braised belly - my FAV entree, the kimchi is so good and the pork is tender and juicy and THICCC KFC WINGS!! - my favorite Korean fried chicken wings I've had so far, the sauce is so good and the skin remains crisp! Char'd Dumplings - Char'd just knows how to make sauce y'all I would buy a jar of this stuff if I could!! This is the perfect place for a date or catching up with a friend for dinner. Impressed! Went here on a whim and while service was slow (it was a pretty not busy Monday night) the dishes I tried were great! Drinks:I'd recommend the Mango Mojito - very fresh tasting and not crazy sweet. I also tried the Paloma which was tasty. Food: Shared an order of the Korean Fried Chicken - omg this was the standout dish! The sauce on these wings is to die for. Tangy, sweet but not too sweet,great flavor. I could come back here and honestly just order these. Try them! DING DING !!! New favorite spot in Milwaukee alert ! My boyfriend and I had an absolutely incredible first time at Char'd. 10/10 food, ambiance and service. We had the scallion pancake, pork bulgogi, grilled pork belly and for dessert, the croissant waffle with the chocolate espresso ice cream (per recommendation) . Let me just say everything about each dish blew me away, ESPECIALLY THE WAFFLE. You wouldn't think a waffle could be so delicious but it really smacked my tastebuds into the next dimension. Hi, This is Dominic the food reviewer. On Wednesday I tried Char'd. It is located at 222 E Erie St, Milwaukee, WI 53202. This is a Korean restaurant in the Third Ward. The executive chef Yosub Yoon went to college to learn and become a chef at Johnson & Whales University which is in Providence, Rhode Island. He worked at another modern Korean restaurant as a chef in a place called Mokban Korean Bistro which is in Rhode Island as well. He also worked as a chef at the Hilton Conrad Hotel in Seoul, South Korea. The restaurant Char'd opened up in Milwaukee 3 years ago. The owner, manager and chef are all Korean. They serve authentic Korean dishes with some fusion dishes too. It's a nice twist to traditional Korean. The decor is very modern and industrial looking inside with exposed wood beams on the ceiling in the restaurant. It also has a very clean modern atmosphere inside. I got the pleasure to meet the bar tender Riley. I thought she was very cool to talk to and super friendly to get a chance to meet. Right when I walked in, she made me feel welcome. Our server Anna was also very nice. Some of their most popular dishes on the menu are the wings, dumplings and Bulgogi. For dinner, my dad tried the Galaxy Lemonade and my Uncle, and mom had the Soju which is a type of Korean vodka. They loved it too. I tried the edamame, dumplings and Togarashi fries. I thought the togorashi fries were well seasoned and they had a little tang to them and I absolutely enjoyed using the chop sticks for my dumplings to dip inside the cream sauce. They were all delicious. For my regular meal I had the Beef Bulgogi which comes with rice, lettuce, bean sprout salad with a side of pickled onions, SSam sauce and tangy soy sauce. I thought the bulgogi was delectable and I ate every last piece and bite of it while I was there. My dad got the Croiffle for dessert. He thought it was incredible and very savory tasting. I had such a great experience because my Uncle Frank was visiting out of town and he actually lived in Korea for a little while also. So he wanted me to get a chance to try Korean food and talk about their dishes that they eat. Wow! Walked in and was really impressed with the decor, it was very modern and looked very polished with dark blues and hints of gold. They do accept reservations! We went at 7:15 and were a group of 3. It wasnt too busy but there were a good amount of people there. The appetizers are tapas style so we got a few! Definitely try the KFC wings they were the perfect sauce to crispy ration that one wants in a wing. We got the kimchi fries with some white sauce on them. They were really tasty and not soggy which is a HUGE accomplishment! In addition the fries weren't the cheap oily tasting fries! They were crispy on the outside and soft inside. The kimchi pancakes. They came with a sauce not sure what it was but it was very yummy a little bland but good none the less! The last appetizer we got was the dumplings which were okay to be honest I got the re-colada and it was delicious! It had mango coconut puree and you could taste the real fruit! The squirt added a little tart to counter the sweetness! Would highly recommend! My friends got the mango mojito and the far East both really good according to them! After a walk around Lakeshore State Park, my husband and I decided to drive over and check out the Sunday Special I've been hearing so much about on social media. Offered only on Sundays from 11:30 to 2, the Sunday Special is advertised as your typical Korean family meal consisting of banchan, soup and an entree for $18. We love a good deal as much as we love Korean food, so we were obviously in. The restaurant itself is really lovely, with gold accents, reclaimed wood galore and various greenery such as ferns and succulents. It felt really upscale but inviting and warm at the same time. Service was also great. Nothing to complain about. As for the food itself, we were really blown away! I got the soft tofu soup and bibimbap. The soup had silken tofu, squid, egg and (I think) zucchini. It was spicy (but not mind-numbingly so) and so delicious! The bibimbap came with purple rice, beef, edamame, purple cabbage, spicy radish (I think), beant sprouts and a mild brown sauce. It was good from start to finish. No complaints. My husband got the Korean miso soup and bulgogi and he also really enjoyed his food. For banchan, we received two kinds of spinach-like dishes, one spicy and one not, as well as mashed eggplant and spicy cucumber and spinach. Loved them all. Banchan, or little side dishes, are often the best part of a Korean meal and they really hit it out of the park with their offerings! Wow .. I'm super impressed with Milwaukee food scene (coming from New York). I've had plenty of Korean food in my days, Char'd was definitely up there. The glaze was sweet and tiny tiny bit spicy. You will enjoy them wings! - Steamed dumplings; if you are a dumplings person, get 'em. - Soft tofu stew; if you are a fan of silken tofu, you'll love it. There were seafood in the stew as well. Broth had such a good depth and spicy! Not the kind of spicy that will kill you, don't worry. After attending an event I couldn't wait to return. I was daydreaming about the food here for days after. I suggested this for dinner before a show at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater with a friend. In short, I ordered up the kombucha mule for a drink and the kimchi paella as my entree. Both were exceptional. I love kombucha so I'm always happy to see it on menus. The flavors were on point. The kimchi paella exceeded my expectations. All those koreans spices coming at your taste buds that leave you wanting more. My friend ordered the KFC wings, which I'm a huge fan of, and a soup. One of my visits was for a party of 16 and they were very accommodating before and during our visit, and I was impressed that they were able to do separate checks for everyone and nothing was billed incorrectly (definitely an anomaly in the restaurant world with a party that big). My favorite dish was the fried dumplings. The Beef Bulgogi was really good too and I didn't love the Galbi because it was very fatty and not much meat. And I will say the glass noodle dish was a bit lacking in flavor but everything else was fantastic. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience and look forward to coming back. read more

I was in the mood for Korean food because I hadn't had it in a while. My cousins were with me and they hadn't yet had the pleasure of eating Korean food, so I introduced them to a few basic dishes.
