It was my husband's birthday and the staff went beyond our expectations, bringing out champagne after we were seated (near the window as requested). The food was delicious -- we had the curry clams as an appetizer, steak and duck leg as our mains. The cocktails were well done with a nice presentation. No reason to deduct a full star, but felt like the lights should be dimmed just a bit for dinner time service (open to a bright art gallery next door), but overall we highly recommend and will definitely come back for another date night! read more

A Legend in their own Minds. While the service and cocktails were exemplary, the food was a letdown. With a name like Charcoal, guests are tempted to think of juicy, carmelized items cooked to perfection over charcoal, right? Wrong. Char Sui pork belly claimed to have that Chinese flavor that we crave, it was not charred, their was no sticky sweetness, and the accompanying slaw was lackluster. It was lukewarm, and the peaches which could have been great if they had more time on the grill were lackluster. Seems like the food had been precooked, not finished on charcoal. Avocado toast without avocado! The toast was not toasted enough so it lacked the texture of our breakfast favorites. It was smeared with a VERY thin layer of some green stuff, not thick enough to determine whether it was avocado! Shrimp was okay, not hot, so maybe pre-grilled. Dinner entree scallops were small and not crispy seared. Be forewarned if you are hungry: only 3 very small scallops for $44! Having owned 3 restaurants and a five star rated BnB myself, I can sympathize with having cost issues, but this food just didn't measure up to the name of the restaurant or the prices. read more

Had a great time. Service was amazing; our server was on task, but not annoyingly so. Environment is beautiful and open like a storybook. A conversation with chef Damon was very enlightening as he described the processes extremely well. We will be back. read more

Love this place! Best burger ever. Great staff, cozy and comfortable. Definitely recommend

We order Beef salad, King salmon in main entree, a tomato roast peppers soup. Everything is just perfect. Salmon is tender inside. A little crisp outside. Over pineapple rice with roast wedges of cabbage. I like this creativity. We definitely will come back and try something else next time. read more

My son turned 28 and chose Charcoal for his birthday dinner. They sat us in a corner bear the kitchen. My wife is such a foodie, she thoroughly enjoyed watching the cooks prepare our food (and others) literally steps away. Watching them cook the meats over the charcoal was a treat for me, as was watching them set each plate just perfectly, wiping the edges for that "special" presentation. I was torn between ordering the salmon or the steak, and chose the steak. It did not disappoint. The roasted red potatoes were cooked in duck fat, and honestly were the best potatoes I've ever had. Even the vegetables had a charcoal infused flavor. So delicious. All four of us were delighted with each meal, and my wife and I agreed we would be back for a date night. The personnel, from the waiter to the bartender to the cooks were all on point and made the evening even more enjoyable. read more

Awesome service, great atmosphere, and excellent food. We come back frequently. The menu changes adding interest.

The name is fitting for the establishment. Ordered my steak medium rare and it came out as Charcoal, overdone, dry and bland. You would think they would know how to properly cook a steak at a place like this. Not only that but the salmon had the be the lamest dish I've seen in a while with no creativity whatsoever and massively overpriced for what seemed like basic, low value, farmed Atlantic salmon. The atmosphere is dull, the dining room doesn't feel like a restaurant at all, more like a poor man's art deco. Service left much to be desired, they do nothing but the bare minimum. At these prices you'd may as well have an equivalent experience at an Applebee's for far cheaper. read more

We came here based on a "top 10 new restaurants" list we saw online. The service was quick and the waitress explained everything to us well. I had the pork and it was good! Definitely a good spot and driver for other businesses in the area! read more

Amazing food quality and creativity. Started with the pickled veggies which are unique and a must order. The grilled watermelon salad is equally unique and a must order. Followed by the chargrilled Salmon which is an outstanding dish. Wonderful restaurant with a great staff. Thanks again for a fantastic experience. read more

Went opening night. Food was all excellent, drinks too. Had a great time. Look forward to going again.

Let me start by saying, I had such high hopes for this spot... so many friends recommended this place so I was so excited to try it out... unfortunately, I had extremely horrible service from a server named Danielle. She rushed me through my order, I asked her what she recommended (first time there I didn't know what to try) she couldn't give me any recommendations, she even laughed when I placed my order! That did not leave me confident. We ate our food and honestly during our entire dinner, only heard from her maybe one other time... our drinks were always empty. I did not feel like I got everything that I should have from our experience here... I most likely won't dine here again, but if I do... I will ask to have someone other than Danielle! So disappointed. read more

Charcoal impressed us with their courage in opening this wonderful restaurant in these uncertain times. The atmosphere is relaxing. The red wine blend was excellent. My husband's charbroiled steak was so tender he could have cut it with a fork. I had the smash burger and the bib lettuce and tomatoes on the smashed burgers were so fresh. We are now trying the coffee crème brûlée "Quite tasty", he says. read more

Food is top notch, as expected. Chairs are very uncomfortable, no reason for that. And, so very noisy, couldn't hear across table. Work on the acoustics. Fantastic service. read more

Deep in the heart of downtown Edmonds, this kinda upscale restaurant is great! Nicely spaced tables, ambient lighting and a super friendly staff greats you at the door, but the tasty food will blow ya away! We've been there twice now and have not been disappointed. read more

Edmonds has become quite a dining destination and this place has to be at the top of the list. Ben, the bartender, is the kind of bartender you want to see in a place that is so welcoming. The steak salad on the happy hour menu is amazing. read more

This is really a great spot. Super friendly staff and great ambiance. I took my wife here for our anniversary and we had great experience. Highly recommended. read more

The food was fantastic! While traveling from Utah we stopped in for dinner to this rare gem of a steak house! I keep telling everyone about the steak we had that was unbelievably delicious! That smoke from that grill made our steaks a very unique flavor that was to die for!! The ambience and the quality of the experience is a must for us when we are in town!! 5 out of 5 Stars! read more

first off let me begin by how nice the space and surroundings of charcoal is. edmonds is the cutest little town on the water with a very cool art scene and friendly people. my friend and i came here as a recommendation and all of our expectations were exceeded. we started off with the caesar then had the steak and scallops for mains. the unique combination of flavors in all of owner/chef jake wilson is unlike any i have ever had in my life. i work in the food industry and the steak alone was cooked to perfection. we made sure to save room for dessert and thank god we did! the coffee crème brûlée is to die for. i regret only getting one! make sure to stop in and check this place out. i will definitely be back. read more

I lived in NYC for a number of years and I miss the food/restaurants there in general. It's been hard for me to find places in WA that rival NYC restaurants but Charcoal does just that. Every food item and drink I've had there has been incredible. The service/staff is great too. When we want to treat ourselves to an extra amazing meal in Edmonds we come here. read more

Wow! I was expecting it to be good but I was blown away! Everything from apps to dessert was beyond my expectations. Care was taken to every little detail. Plating was beautiful and unexpected flavors sang together. The space was open and inviting and the service was fantastic. Charcoal is a much needed addition to Edmonds! read more

I planned a 30 year anniversary dinner at Charcoal on the 26th that Covid and then the snow gods conspired to disrupt. Jin (Charcoal's general manager) personally worked to get us a reservation at other nearby restaurants so my wife and I could celebrate our special date...but alas the snow just kept piling up. In the end Jin sorted us out and last night we had a lovely dinner at Charcoal with friendly and attentive service and outstanding food. We ordered the roasted Brussel sprouts Caesar, pork tenderloin, pan seared scallops, some lovely cocktails and the coffee crème brûlée. We recommend everything and can't wait to go back and try some of the small plates. We like the clean and modern design of the place and it is next to an art space which adds to the vibe. Charcoal has definitely added something that Edmonds was missing and it's not hard to see why they are so busy. read more

It was good, not great. Everything was fine but for the price of the food, I expected more.

Came in for wedding anniversary and the cheese plate was so good the blue was unbelievable. Wife had scallops and i had the new york strip and we are both still thinking about the meal. Great staff and great drinks read more

I was excited to try this restaurant so we chose it for a friends birthday dinner. We had a great experience. We made a quick stop at Charcoal after hearing about their PNW inspired cuisine. We were very impressed by the overall experience and the dishes we ordered. Will go back again in the near future to try out their duck confit, halibut and wild king salmon. read more

Super amazing food and service. We had a reunion with our parents here and we enjoyed the time very very much. This was originally our plan B choice but since the plan A never got back to us to confirm the seating, and our usual seafood place was closed on Sunday, so we went here and WOW. All grilled food was awesome. Steak deserves the shoutout, but also the burger, fries, cheese plate and grilled watermelon. This will now be our default place next time we visit grandpa and grandma. read more

Went to Charcoal with my wife for date night. I had the crab linguine and my wife has the Mahi-Mahi. The crab linguine was very good, but only one note and a little under seasoned. The Mahi-mahi was outstanding! Seasoned very well and grilled on their traditional Argentine oven. So many different flavors. Our server Gabriel was awesome. Everything he suggested or gave an opinion on was spot on. Great service from the entire staff. For dessert we tried the chocolate lava cake and the rhubarb, apple and ginger crumble. The lava cake was very small and in my opinion needed more if a dark chocolate flavor. The crumble was out of this world flavorful and would definitely buy it again. Just a heads up on dessert, they make them fresh so there is a bit of a wait which we did not mind. My wife also loved the grapefruit lemon drops. read more

We ate dinner at Charcoal tonight and we're pleasantly surprised at how good it was. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was very nice and the food was superb. Some people have complained about the room, tables, chairs, etc. I had no problem with that and felt the decor is clean and modern. No, the chairs don't have padding so if that bothers you, bring a pillow (kidding!). The scallops were divine and the pork tenderloin was excellent, moist and tasty. We'll be back! read more

The food is incredible- favorites with an amazing twist plus fantastic service! We had juicy game hen that had a slight jerk seasoning, accompanied with the best cornbread ever- apricot with a peppery butter. This came with a light cabbage and apple slaw that was a perfect balance. We also had the calamari steak - cooked and seasoned to perfection with a side of pickled veggies and halloumi cheese. Chris was our attentive and friendly waiter, but several others also casually swooped by to refill water/clear plates. This was one of the best meals we've had in years! An amazing addition to a great foodie area. read more

Charcoal has the best fish(I got the black cod) I have ever had. Also when the fat rendering wasn't quite right, our server told the head shef and they are going to make changes to how they do the lamb. The second sentences point is they took my dad's critique quite well. read more

Okay I've been here enough times to make a legit review. I've sat several times at the bar and once at a table. Service was always great. Especially the bar. Benjamin (I think that's his name) always recognizes me (sign of a great bartender). He makes fabulous drinks and is great to chat with. My server from the time I sat at a table was super friendly and made great recommendations. Now the food - I've had two different steaks, the pork belly, and a few others. Always cooked as I asked and very delicious. Great charred flavor. Priced as what i would consider a value for the quality, presentation, and quantity. I've been seated right away each time and even had a pair of chairs at the bar held for me while driving to the place last minute. I feel the staff do those little extra things that don't take much time or effort but make a big difference to me, the patron. The owner/chef stopped by the last time I was there and told us his culinary story which was very inspiring. It's a great place in a town (Edmonds) that needs more places like it. Ditch the antique shops, banks, and breakfast diners and add more unique and interesting eateries and lounges! I'll keep coming back. read more

One of my favorite places to visit! Their food is so fresh and delicious, and their service is good.

Charcoal is by far the best restaurant in all of the Edmonds area!! I've been twice now and every time they keep me coming back. The first time I went I had the salmon, my mom had the duck and my dad had the pork chop. All of our dishes were fantastically cooked and the flavors clashed so amazingly together. Tonight, we had the clams, broccoli and pickled vegetables to start which were both to die for (my grandma absolutely loved the pickled vegetables). For my entree I had the salmon again (I couldn't stop thinking about it from the first time I had it) the fish is amazing quality and melts in your mouth just like butter. My mom had the scallops, and my dad had the pork chop again, because it's just that good!! My parents have been back several times and have heard amazing reviews on the burger, which I would definitely be trying if I was a red meat eater. This is the most consistent restaurant with the food quality, and outstanding service. Book your reservations early because it can be a busy place! read more

While this restaurant has good food and service, it is just not a comfortable place to have a nice dinner. The noise level is way too loud. People at our small table of four could not hear each other. Hard walls surround, no noise baffling. And, the music playing loud makes it worse. And, the chairs are hard wood, not at all comfortable. Overall, a totally uncomfortable evening. Please fix the noise level and get comfortable chairs. read more

Went here with a group tonight for a friends birthday. This place is amazing! The staff was so incredibly friendly and accommodating. We tried many things, and everything was just delicious. The standouts were the Brussels sprout salad, the duck, scallops, salmon, and the burger was just amazing. Definitely add the bacon! Will be back for sure. Yes, it is on the spendier side, but you will not be disappointed! read more

I had read really good reviews about this new spot in Edmonds and was excited to go. My bf and I had a random date night on a Mon. and made reservations just in case. We were very lucky and got a great spot right near the restaurant. When I first walked in I honestly felt like I was in NYC, LA or Miami, not WA! It was incredible ambiance to the art work, all the way to the high ceilings. Speaking of art work, there is a art gallery next door, and the owner was giving private tours to people! I want to check that out next time I go! We sat at the bar, and had a good view of the chefs/kitchen. Everyone was spectacular from the hostess, the bartender to the chef checking in on our meals. Our bartender/waiter really stood out for his incredible service! My bf and I tried the cocktails- Smoke Wagon (bourbon drink-LOVED IT!) and I Dancing with the Cosmos which was a little too sweet for me personally. I discovered a new cocktail there that I am Obsessed with now- French 75! So Good!!!! For our meals- my bf got the smashed cheeseburger with fries...which he enjoyed and I got the BEST scallops I have had on the West Coast!! I'm originally from the East Coast near Maine (best seafood eva) and my critique of scallops can be harsh but this place mastered it! We then split a wonderful chocolate cake...Can't WAIT to go back,..thank you Charcoal and staff for an Amazing night!!! read more

We were a party of six and everything from service to food to drinks was outstanding. My wife and I shared a bone-in ribeye steak, it was cooked perfectly. Everyone at the table had nothing but good things to say about their food. The cocktails were great and the wine recommendation was spot on. We were there until closing time and no one rushed us out. Best dining out experience I have had in a while. read more
