I recently discovered Char in The Hotel Andaluz. So far everything I have eaten there has been exquisitely prepared and reasonably priced. The Calamari are tender and perfectly cooked . I can't imagine not getting these before any dinner to share. The chile tasting is so simple and wonderful that it's a revelation. Small fresh , warm and soft corn tortillas with your choice of 3 of their 6 New Mexico sourced reds and greens turned into deeply flavorful sauces. After you try each one on a bite of warm fresh tortilla and experience the depth of flavor and the nuances of our states different chile offerings , you can spoon them on a bite of all your diners dishes, and decide which you'd like on your enchiladas or other dishes that come with chile. Every Waygu steak I've had is excellent. They have an excellent idea that needs refinement in its implementation. Each steak is served on a very hot stone and is sizzling when it arrives at your table. This means it's still cooking. I had to return my first bone in Ribeye , because by the time I took a knife to it my medium rare steak was medium and getting worse by the second . I have had Japanese Wygu at Nobu . The $60 per ounce steak is brought to your table raw , on its own plate and you warm it to your liking on the stone . This is how these steaks ought to be served. Char them to rare , bring them to the table on their own plate with the stone available to finish them. I returned my first steak and did this and My wife ordered her NY strip on our second visit this way and it was fantastic . I can't imagine that I'm the first person to watch the delicate marbling sizzle out of the steak in front of me and feel helpless as it is ruined . Another necessary refinement is the salt cellar. A potentially great addition imperfectly implemented. The grains of salt are gigantic and result in a poor finishing salt that lacks the ability to control it. I would suggest a much finer grind for the pink Himalayan salt and an offering of Fleur De Sel , the best finishing salt in the world. Its thin flake never overpowers. Every side dish is amazing and represents value that is hard to find in any restaurant these days much less one as refined and delightfully appointed as this one. Every design detail in the hotel lobby and dining room elevate your experience. I love this restaurant ! The cocktails alone are reason to go. The Smoked old fashioneds are delicious. I will bring all my friends here to show off what fun a New Mexico steak house can be. The service is excellent, the vibe is lively. I look forward to many more stellar meals at Char. The food and cocktails were excellent! I had the Puerco Milanese "Secreto"- it was perfectly breaded in a light crispy coating and was accompanied by slightly spicy squash. I split churros for dessert (it comes with 4 churros and ice cream). Our waitress, Sydnee, was superb too! She was so patient with our questions and made excellent recommendations. This is not just dinner but a whole dinning experience. Start with the restaurant and have an amazing dinner. The whole menu is outstanding but hands down the best steak in town. They honor NM with a slew of dishes with New Mexican flare. The restaurant director, Liz, is very much hands on and making sure your experience is unique. Our waiter, Josh, is a young guy who understands restaurant service. Once dinner is over( and make sure you try the deserts) go upstairs to the terrace bar with a view of the city in the cool night. Just have some drinks and enjoy a nice time. Music and drinks im a very relaxed environment. This place is hard to beat. We make it our once a month escape. Thank you Char!!! read more

Hostess was extremely rude, didn't greet us, when we asked if there was a table for two - she said no we aren't taking reservations. No smile, no acknowledgment of potential customers. If you're not taking reservations, have a sign or update your website/yelp. There were also empty tables, so I'm really confused at why they weren't taking reservations on a Saturday night. We were really excited to try this place and the service was so off putting. If you don't like to be welcomed when you first arrive at a restaurant, definitely try this place. read more

The entire night was lovely, beginning with cocktails in the lobby. Bartender was experienced, lovely personality, then got into restraint and waitress recognized us from weeks prior. Impressive!! She was helpful with menu, polite, funny, never hurried us along. Food was fabulous beginning with fried calamari, filet for our friend, fish for my husband, steak for me. We had elote and truffle fries for sides. Everything was spectacular. Presentation was beautiful. But our waitress was sweet and great personality. Would recommend 100%. I visited Char Thursday, October 23, 2025...had incredible drinks in the G Toti rooftop lounge followed by an exceptional meal at Char. The "Puerto Milanese Secreto" was absolutely incredible. The portion sized were perfect and the calabacitas had a nice spice without being overbearing. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. There were 3 other meals (two steaks and one grilled ceasar with steak salad) that were also exceptional. We finish with the churros - so crispy and tasty. This is a restaurant that doesn't know what it wants to be. They make a big deal of their fancy ovens and prime meats and then don't cook the steaks, but rather serve them on a hot stone for you to finish cooking. Makes no sense. To be fair my wife thought her filet mignon was excellent. Nice thick cut she could finish perfectly. My carne asada was poor. Sliced steak served on a sizzling hot stone means smaller pieces are already overcooked by the time it reaches the table. Then you need to rush to finish the other pieces and get them off the stone ASAP. Very poorly thought out. And it was a rather grizzly piece of meat. Otherwise a very pleasant experience with friendly staff. Mt advice - order carefully. read more

My NY Strip was bland and did not seem to be prime meat, though my dog loved the substantial leftovers (I don't eat the fat, and there was a substantial amount of it) veggies and starches are ala carte, so be prepared for an expensive dinner margarita was good, but meager, as glass was filled with ice. read more

We had just a stunning dinner. Chef Marco dropped by and chatted with us. He is so personable, and his food divine. We had the rib eye which was crazy good: a fun trio of sauces is served alongside. The chili stew soup and cauliflower side both outstanding. The bone marrow app was a big hit with us, and perhaps a bigger one with our dog upstairs after dinner. Our server, Sydnee delighted us with her service and suggestions. Adrian, the beverage manager, helped us with our wine selection. We shared our fav French wine distributor in Ca. with him & a great rose we love from Long Island. This is the classic example of a upscale wannabe restaurant. The bone marrow doesn't need help! If you can't help yourself then put sides where they belong. On the side. The roasted prawns were smothered with "stuff" . Why? The lime rice was pungent. This place needs to perfect hamburgers and hotdogs first. Way over priced. The newly renovated dining room is very elegant and inviting, and the staff is very friendly and attentive, but what we loved most was the New Mexican influence on the courses. Green chile on calamari was an incredibly delicious starter! And while the steaks looked very tempting, we opted for seafood and were certainly not disappointed. The branzino was cooked to perfection as were the prawns. For dessert both the biscochito parfait and the churros with peanut butter ice cream (made in house) were heavenly! Dining at the newly, and beautifully, renovated "Char" was such an incredible experience for my family and I, from start to finish. Prior to my reservation, I received a phone call from one of the Char team members, asking me questions to ensure a great experience, it was short and sweet! From hosting staff to wait staff, the service all evening was prompt, kind, and knowledgeable, overall very impressive! Once we arrived, we enjoyed a multitude of delicious starters. I highly recommend the guacamole and salsa, as a native New Mexican I appreciate an incredible salsa with house made chips! After looking at their thoughtfully curated wine list, and impressive craft cocktail menu, we ordered a bottle of wine for the table. After the starters, my fiancee and I enjoyed the American Wagyu Sirloin with various side, and I cannot recommend this enough! We also had our son with us and he loved the Smash Burger! Throughout the evening, every dish we enjoyed was excellent; perfectly seasoned, with a beautiful presentation, all thanks to Chef Marcos and his expertly trained culinary team. Based on the attention to detail and the special touches, you can really tell how much the team at Char cares! Liz and Kicker made this such an incredible experience for my entire family, if I could leave more than 5 stars, I would. We will be returning soon for date night! read more
