The chunks of tomato in my omelette are way too big. It doesn't taste like your fruit is fresh and there are brown spots on my berries

This first time I've legitimately been mad enough at a establishment to write a bad review. The food and delivery service were both abysmal. After explicit instructions to deliver at 11 am, they called an hour early and went to the wrong address, meaning I had to wait around for 15 minutes to figure out where the delivery guy was. While I'm prepared to cut them slack for that since the guy didn't speak English (at all), the abysmal food quality made it worse. The fruits, omelette and waffles were packed in the SAME box without any dividers, which means that by the time I got it, it was a horrible soggy mess. Imagine trying to eat waffles that taste of omlettes. Truly disgusting! Do not order from here, New Haven has a ton of much better breakfast options! read more

For a group of five people looking to stuff ourselves with brunch food after a late Saturday night out, Chaps suited just fine. Despite that, there wasn't anything exceptional about the place. Service was prompt, and the waitress was very nice. The food definitely wasn't as good as most brunch/diner food that I've had, and the portions were small for American diner fare. I got the strawberry waffles and omelette special, but I was still hungry after eating it so I had to order more. There was plenty of coffee with free refills, which was great. Overall, not a bad experience but I enjoyed it more because of the company than the food. read more

Why did I come back here again?!? I did not like it the first time around (several years ago) - but since I moved just a few doors downs I thought I'd give it another shot .... I was disappointed... again. Chap's can't seem to decide if it is a sit down restaurant or a snack-bar style eatery. I was seated and given a menu, but the waitress forgot to tell me that it was a self-service coffee bar - so I sat there for a while until I heard her mention it to another customer. I got eggs over-easy with toast - which were fine. The atmosphere is really weird and the staff don't seem to excited to be working there and the inside of the place was not 100% clean. This place has such a great location, I really want to love it - but they really need to clarify their restaurant concept, clean up the place and communicate with customers on how to order/pay/get coffee etc. Unless I see/hear about some drastic changes I will not be back. read more

I wasn't thrilled with Chap's; I'm pretty surprised it's survived for so long. On a street with places like Booktrader's Cafe and Jojo's, Chap's doesn't have much going for it. Actually, what Chap's does have is a pretty extensive, diner-style breakfast menu. The breakfast food, however, is bland and left me with a "meh" feeling . Also, it's has an awkward layout. If you sit down, you have to get up again in order to get your own drinks. Also, the register is in the middle of the restaurant and faces the tables. This makes for kind of an awkward sit down experience. On the plus side, it's cheap and the waitress was nice. read more

Pros: The Food is VERY tasty, and they have a large delivery area. Cons: The portions seem smaller than other local deliveries, and the price is pretty high. Might have ordered different thing next time, or asked for substitutions in some of the dishes. More variety in combinations of platters would definitely be helpful. read more

Ordered from Grubhub.. was too lazy to cook breakfast but I should have just made my own!!! Spent $2 on a side of bacon and ended up getting one piece of soggy meat that was just thrown in on top of my side of homefries! Was grabbing a pizza at Est, and saw the sign for falafels so I stopped here too. Grabbed a falafel hummus wrap and my buddy got potato skins and mozzarella sticks. Six dollars for four mediocre mooz sticks, and 8 dollars for home fries with cheese and bacon. If I wanted home fries I would have gone elsewhere, feel kinda cheated over the potato skin debacle , haha. The hummus falafel wrap was average though so two stars here. read more

Cheap food and fast and friendly service. Quiet atmosphere at around 11:30 am on a Sunday. This place is somewhat "eclectically" decorated; with a votive candle on our table and mismatched chairs. When we went to Chaps at 9:30 on a Friday morning, we were the only customers there and the kitchen was just getting fired up. Understandably, the server was attentive, asking us as soon as we arrived if we wanted something to drink. The menu had a range of options - from waffles, pancakes and crepes to omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, and strangely, kebabs. The restaurant had the feel of a diner and was clean and comfortable. Strawberry and nutella crepe with eggs: an odd combination, but quite good. The fruit was not really in season, but mixed with fresh whipped cream and nutella, it was sweet enough and the crepe was neither too crispy or too soggy. The only complaint was that the food was not very hot - warm at best. (This is a pretty big complaint, though.) Avocado omelette (with onion, tomato, and cheddar) and stuffed french toast: the waitress informed me that the omelette was "award winning" and one of the best in New Haven. Unfortunately, I was not so impressed by it. The omelette was fluffy but bland. Both the egg itself and the ingredients inside could have used a generous amount of salt and pepper. In addition, the avocado was not ripe enough. In terms of the french toast: I wish the cream cheese filling was a bit sweeter. It just felt like softened cream cheese was spread onto the french toast and was then dotted with some berries. Still, it was a nice complement to the omelette. "The Liberal Omelette" (Onions, peppers, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes): Similar to the avocado omelette, the egg was fluffy, but it was rather dry. It also didn't help that it was lukewarm. Much more salt and pepper could have been added because without the slight sweet taste of the peppers and tomatoes, I probably could not have eaten it. On the other hand, I really enjoyed their homefries. While not as warm as I would have liked, nothing a little ketchup couldn't fix. The toasts of bread were nicely buttered and had a nice crunch. read more

Chaps Grill is my go to place for delivery of great breakfast in New Haven. Not many places that deliver actually deliver breakfast items, so for someone like me - who absolutely LOVES breakfast - this place is exceptional! Chaps has many options, you can have eggs scrambled, over easy, medium, or hard, and sunny side up! They also have various gourmet omelettes to choose from, hash browns, bacon, sausage, French toast, and pancakes. Their breakfast menu is college/university themed, featuring meals called "The final exam", which is the one I typically enjoy (pictured below). Their delivery service is fast, and they make sure to include whatever preferences you ask for (knifes, forks, salt, pepper, etc). I haven't tried any of the non-breakfast items on the menu, so I can't comment on that. Overall, chaps is a great place for a yummy breakfast experience, that delivers to your home! Avoid this restaurant at all costs. The waiting staff was rude and ignorant of the menu items and what proper service entails. Management behaves as if playing at running a business (eg no change, waiting one hour for food, etc). People are not served and you ultimately feel ignored and forgotten. I've been going to chaps every day for the past year. They have an amazing waitress named Pam who is very hospitable. The chef "Alex" has amazing talents. I've never seen anyone cook middle eastern food better than my grandma except for him!! The chicken kabab is to die for !!! I also loved their sandwiches and almost ate my fingers off !!! So, I've only been here once, this morning, and all I got was an egg and cheese bagel, but I thought it was great. And I felt moved to write a review in part because I felt stupid for going to Dunkin Donuts across the street so many times when this bagel, and the experience in general, was much better. Fast delivery and the food is pretty good. Amazing hamburgers and subs, just wish they came with more mayo. Nachos, chicken tenders and mozarella sticks were really good too. This is a great find for breakfast/brunch in New Haven that isn't as well publicized but worth visiting. I chanced upon it when I first moved to New Haven and ever since have been recommending people to go if they feel like a good breakfast on weekends and looking for a place that doesn't require queuing or reservations. Their breakfast menu has a huge variety, large generous servings and delicious food. The price is so reasonable for the amount you get plus you might have extras to take home! I love their seasonally menu that they try to incorporate time to time like pumpkin pancakes and I also love their different weekly breakfast combo sets. I've tried so many dishes that it's difficult to decide what I love most. I've had pancakes and waffles here at 8pm for dinner too. Who says you can't have breakfast for dinner? The food is good. I ordered through Grubhub twice. The first time the driver called and then he proceeded to honk. He did not even get out the car and just pretty much threw me the food and drove off. I ordered again because I liked the breakfast food and thought I might get a different driver. It was the same driver and this time he called and obnoxiously honked outside while sitting in my driveway, like it was his own, instead of being on the street. I walked out to get my food and he started complaining about me not giving him a tip. Not want to give them a tip through my credit card because of the last delivery. However, I had money in my coat to give him until he started to complain. He said " No tip. No food. Don't order again" A tip is earned not just given. Do no order delivery. Although the hostess was very friendly, unfortunately there was a roach crawling on our table. They tried to downplay it saying it was "just a waterbug." They killed it and wiped it off the table. It was a bit awkward but we obviously had to leave after that incident. read more

I frequent Chap's a lot since it's in my neighborhood. During my last (and final) trip to Chap's I saw a cockroach crawling down the wall while I was picking up my food. I could forgive that usually, however the food was not great. The cook working is very nice and has made good food before, but my last experience leaves me questioning the freshness of both the bacon (isn't this place halal?) and red pepper on my burger. I couldn't finish my food ... not sure if it's because of my disgust seeing a roach crawl on the wall or because the ingredients weren't fresh...actually seemed a bit rotten. read more
