Disappointing. Went for breakfast, ordered the blueberry French toast (me) and chicken fried steak (hubs). My meal was not at all what I was expecting; two large slabs of, essentially, dense blueberry bread. I ordered extra crispy bacon, bacon came out very underdone. Chicken fried steak was just okay. I acknowledge that the reviews are filled with people posting about the blueberry French toast so a little research would have saved me some (not all) disappointment but, overall, did not enjoy the experience or the food and won't be back. read more

This is one of my most favorite places anywhere. The food is fresh and wonderful; the servings generous. On my most recent visit I split an omelette with my friend and still couldn't finish it. I can't say much about the baked goods except they're beautiful and smell amazing. But the hash browns are to die for. And I'm not even a hash brown fan normally. We stopped here after a recommendation from a family member. This restaurant is a little deceiving since it's in a strip mall but once you walk in, it's a little oasis! You are surrounded with greenery and trees. We went inside the restaurant and we were greeted right away and were given a table number (they place it on the table and you head that way after you order food). We had the classic breakfast, pancakes, the bagel sandwich and the egg scramble with biscuits and gravy. EVERY meal was raved about. The only negative was that drinks come in a very small glasses. Wow!!! This was my first meal from Chaps. I chose the Denver Omelet and it was outstanding. I don't know what they do to the hashbrowns but they were outta this world. The meal was picked up and delivered by my son-in-law and was still hotter than most restaurants can keep my meal even when I am at their establishment. WE WILL RETURN! My favorite restaurant. You need to go during the week, they are not busy then. The weekends can get a bit crazy here. They have live music on Friday nights, but again this can get crowded. You can have an omelette almost anywhere and your appetite will be fulfilled most of the time. It's hard to make an omelette go wrong but even harder to master. Having said that, the Spanish omelette at Chap's was beyond perfect. It was just the right size. It had the right amount of vegetables: avocado, red onion, red bell pepper. Just the right amount of cheese as well. The egg was my kind of fluffy. All in all, masterfully balanced. Served with a side of what we call in the south Country Potatoes. I left my plate clean and my appetite was satisfied. Their coffee is organic Ethiopian, from what they explained, and to me the several cups I had were proof that that coffee was fantastic. When you're working around the country as often as I do it's hard to find the perfect cup of Joe. Diner coffee has that distinct it-is-what-it-is-blandness flavor. Now I'm not comparing Chap's to a diner by any means because it is far from it but it felt awesome to finally enjoy the perfect cup of coffee with my lunch. And they encourage you to get as much coffee as you please (as it is self serve). Their bathrooms are awesome too! I'd like to begin that the food and service is good and friendly. If my experience was different, I'd give Chaps 4 stars. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my meal due to my son going into anaphylactic shock. I'd also like to say his allergy is our responsibility and no one else's'. That being said, we do eat out often and frequent places that he trusts and understands food allergens. I was in this morning with a large party (table 31). The manager/owner was working the register and took our order. He ordered a BLT and we let you know about his allergy. You were actually wonderful and said you'd tell the kitchen about the allergy and suggested fruit as a side. I sat with comfort and began our meal in peace. Within moments of his first bite, I noticed his expression change. He didn't want to ruin his aunt's b-day celebration, so he told me everything was fine. I then watch him dissect the sandwich. He came to me and said, "We need to go." and we did. We left our party and out of town guest to follow our emergency protocols. After he was stabilized, I texted my sister and asked her to ask the staff if there was dairy in the bread. She did and there was. My son is fine and we will scratch Chaps from our list of safe dining. For those of you that have similar situations, you know this is about being able to trust an establishment that takes these allergens seriously. I tried calling 4 times before writing this review. Had brunch today with my kids, and I must say, you can always expect the best at Chaps! Reasonably priced, generous portions, beautifully presented and - most importantly - SO YUMMY! I forgot to take pics, but my son had the quesadilla, my daughyer the veggie scramble, and the veggie omelet with guacamole for me. Could not have been better. Oh - and the staff was so helpful and friendly: I had a bunch of presents as we were celebrating a late Christmas and they managed to switch us to a big table so there was room for all the gifts even though they were super busy. I love the cinnamon rolls and other baked goods here. It is a bit pricey but the quality is top notch. Service is OK and they get crowded fairly quickly. The main reason we did not want to give it 4-5 stars is because of 2x incidents with larger orders. We loved the pastries so much we wanted to buy a couple of boxes for our company executives coming to visit our office from out of town. When we went in and requested 20 pastries the sales person gave us a VERY hard time about not ordering ahead and made it uncomfortable, verbally scolding us in front of the other patrons. Essentially we were made to feel like bad guys taking all of the pastries from the rest of the regulars. Is it not your bakeries daily goal to sell-out on all of your pastries? If all 20 of us had driven over and stood in line individually would you have still scolded our entire group for buying your baked goods? We have also tried ordering in advance for multiple cakes and have received the same kind of treatment when placing cake-orders over the phone. Not sure what your company culture is supposed to be at the shop but our impression is that you are not looking to sell lots of pastries/coffee on a daily basis. Since then we no longer go to Chaps for large group orders or custom cakes and our office spends that money at another bakery. read more

I was amped up to come here. The food looks great online. The atmosphere was outstanding, the Chaps scramble was great the hash browns were great, however the biscuits. The biscuits were not special the gravy was decent but ultra chincy. Worst of all the water cup was more like a water thimble or shot glass. It elicited an immediate laugh from me. Chaps has wonderful food and it's no secret it's the pride and joy of the owner, who is visibly present almost every time we are there. But I agree with those who say the staff has become unpleasant and rude. A few months ago, I ordered a coffee drink that was a line item in the menu. Once seated , a member if the waitstaff came and began quizzing me on the coffee drink I ordered -- which was was it ? I repeated the order as I gave it and pointed out the particular line item on the menu. Then the waitperson took a different tactic with me. Did I really want this drink ? Did I know the difference between this drink and another drink ? And began a long involved detail of the story of making the second drink ! I politely said, once again, I'd like to have what I ordered ; only to have him start in again on me. This time I interrupted and told I didn't want any coffee at all. Then the scolding began in earnest. I asked him to leave immediately and not come back. Yesterday I ordered soup. Paid for soup. Once seated, waitstaff came and said, we are out of soup. I said no problem. She what else can I bring you ? I said nothing; it's just fine. Then it begins : but I can bring you something else ! I'm just fine , thanks. What would you like !? Nothing. I'm fine. BUT! ! ! Please please please. I . Am. Fine. WE CAN REFUND YOU. I'm not kidding. I'm just fine. Or I was... The reason I decided to YELP Chaps is because of what happened next. The manager came by and began to scold me , explaining when the waitstaff can't handle a problem , she gets involved. I went through a similar dialogue with her. She finally left but not until she caused big tears in my eyes and a knot in my stomach. The food came, it was delicious. We are it with pleasure. We left. I don't know when we will go back. Celeste, the spankings at the hand of your staff are getting to be too much to take, even if your bakery is the best in town. The reason I didn't want a refund , in both cases, is that it was too much of a hassle to go through with the people working there! Cool environment,but all around not a good experience. It was our first time there last weekend and we walk in and it says wait to be seated by host. So we stand next to the sign and wait. We see people going to the cashier and we thought maybe that was just for their baked goods. We waited around 5-7 minutes a worker finally came up to us and told us we needed to be in that line. We didn't know we were suppose to order all of our food at the front.. so we rushed our order and we still didn't have a table. Waited another 15 minutes then we got a table. Also thought it was odd we had to tip before we got any service. When the table was ready the cashier told us it was up the stairs and we would see it, it was our first time there and we didn't even know there was upstairs seating so we had to wait to ask him where that was located. Once we were at our table we waited an additional 40 minutes for our food. Which if the food wasn't cold that wouldn't have been a problem. But our food came out cold and the fruit like warm... maybe since they were busy they were having a bad day? Idk but all of the staff was in a terrible mood. And none of them were helpful. read more

Not only are the pastries and entrees totally bomb ( pastries crispy, buttery on the outside, delectably soft on the inside--with fresh delicious fruit--in winter!!), and the regular entrees (biscuits and gravy--YUM!), Chaps scramble superbly DELISH, but the owner and the service totally kicks A$$!! They had no idea my family from near and far (Spokane, Bay Area, Seattle & Paris) were descending upon them today after spreading our beloved grandma's ashes. They hooked us up with delightful food, awesome service and kindness that would warm even the coldest heart. And the owner even had her arm in a sling. Found a hair in my daughter's pancake, poorly handled by manager. The food looked amazing, and we were so hungry after camping. Then I cut my daughter's pancake and ... A curly, two inch long beard hair or??? Was sticking out from the middle! I immediately gave the plate to the server and we all felt sick. Instead of the manager refunding my money and (this is what I would do if it were me) offering a gift card for another day and asking us to please give them another chance to make it right, he asked to see the offending hair! He went to finish the sandwich and bit in, and found a course, dark, long and krinkled up hair in the meat. Yuk :( Thought my husband was going to loose it. So I took the partial sandwich back to Chaps and asked for the manager or someone in charge to show it to. I finally found the waiter that originally served us. First impression when you walk in is great. I will give them props for decorating. The place should be mentioned after the meaning of Eclectic in the Dictionary. Unfortunately that is where the bus comes to a screaming halt. I had soon discovered that I had walked into a high end fast food place. This means that you are still going too be charged the same as every sit down place in town but you have to do all of the legwork yourself. First thing that put me really off was the fact that you have to stand in a line with a menu trying to figure out what you want to order. All the while hoping you can figure that out before you get to the front of the line so as not to hold up those behind you. Then you pay your bill and tip them before they have even done one thing for you. Yep, they want to be tipped ahead of time, lol. So once you have finished with that fiasco and you think you are done they point in the general direction of where you can find your own table and seat yourself. Oh what fun times. But wait, you also get to serve yourself your own coffee and carry it to your table, where ever it is. Once at the table I was happy since they had a little play area by it that the Grandson could keep himself busy. I was hoping that the Hand Made Chicken Fried Steak would make up for the other hassles, wrong. First thing that was wrong w/o even taking a bite was that my sunny side up eggs were cooked Hard. Now if you have ever worked in a kitchen there is no way you can't tell that by looking at them. Next thing that pisses me off is that as a conscientious cook you immediately throw those away and make two more. Not here, they just put them in the window and call it good. Next screw up is the wait staff looking at the order and ignoring it and serving it hoping the customer just says the hell with it I guess. Well I didn't. Now since they don't have waiters just servers I now spent the next five minutes or so trying to get the attention of one of them. After that it took another six minutes for the eggs to return. As for the CFS, the menu says it is Angus Chopped Steak. I would assume that to be like the cubed steak you buy at the store. Wrong, if this stuff was chopped it was then put into a 5 ton press. The steak felt like I was chewing on rubber. Even the worst of frozen ones I have eaten have never tasted like this did. When looking at this thing it looked like it was just a solid piece of anything but meat. Gravy was okay but nothing special, had a sweet flavor to it. No toast served with this meal but you can get one for $2. The potatoes were okay nothing great. No seasoning and pure white, no brown at all. Funny thing is this is about the eighth place we have eaten at that guy fieri has been to that is not worth the time or money. Skip this place and go or stay downtown and go to Molly's for CFS or the basics. Yeah it is a dive but 100 times better then eating here. Just to make it clearer, Molly's is a strictly basic bones breakfast. They are not fancy from a food point of view or a decorating one. If you want a more upscale morning then try Luna, Scouts, or Madeleine's. read more

Went here with my mom on a Saturday morning. Problems started as soon as we walked in. Chaps has an unusual ordering system: get in line to get a menu, order at the front counter, then go to one of the tables throughout the building (they tell you where to go with vague directions). The problem was that no one walking in on a busy Saturday morning knew what they were doing, so there was a big traffic jam in the entryway. There were no signs indicating where to go or what to do, and most people probably assumed they were supposed to wait to be seated. We ordered food with coffee and went to our tables. They didn't tell us that the coffee was self-service, so we walked right by the coffee service area and went upstairs to our tables. We then had to flag down a server to find out where our coffee was, only then finding out that it was self-service only. We then had to go back downstairs to get coffee, when a clear sign or just a word from the person taking our order would have prevented this from happening. I mentioned earlier that the instructions to find our table were vague. Not only were we not sure we had found our correct table, but we were approached two times before we were served by waiters with the wrong food. Either the waiters had gotten lost, or more likely the guests had. Either way, if they had some numbered tables, or a more traditional service, we wouldn't have had this problem. When we got our food, it was pretty disappointing. The prices were high and the food was not up to par. I had biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was fine, but nothing to write home about. I was hoping since Chaps is a bakery, that I would have a fresh, piping hot biscuit, but what I got was simply bland and reheated. The gravy was cold. The bacon was fine; better than fast food bacon, about on par with what you can get at a grocery store. We left disappointed and noticably poorer. I wouldn't go back. read more

I was informed that they did not have a full breakfast menu that day, only certain days of the week. All they had were pastries and a coffee bar.
