I've tried this bakery twice. First time, the line wrapped around the bakery...that's what convinced me to try it. It was delicious! Bread was so soft and freshly made. I've known about this place from the day I was born... 18 years of me being a part of Montebello and it makes me happy to see that this place is still open and thriving in the community till this day. AMAZING!!! I have been buying pan dulce here for as long as I can remember i would walk from my house to buy bread all the time and this is the only place I like to get my my pan dulce I will not go anywhere else. The pan dulce here is always made perfectly. This little place gets a lot of business because they have the best pan dulce ever!! On a rainy day it gets so packed. These people have pan dulce freshly made so when you arrive its already warm and ready. The pan dulce here will never be cold or be sitting there for days when the bread gets hard to eat. This with cafesito on a rainy day or cold night would be a family thing at my house every time when my aunts and uncles would come to my house to visit my mom. Ever since I moved 9 years ago I stopped coming but I'm gonna get back to it again because I do miss the cafesito with pan dulce days at my house. Seriously the best. This bakery is hands down the best in making pan dulce. I can travel down the street from my home in Rialto to San Bernardino to buy pan dulce. I choose to drive to Montebello when I have that urge to pan dulce. My favorite pan dulce is the concha. Chapala makes the softest concha you can find anywhere. Great place to get authentic fresh baked goods (you can see the guys making it right there). Everything from pan dulce (sweet bread)) to bolios (French roll). There is a good selection to choose from. I particularly like the cream cheese and jalapeño roll. Yes, it's baked inside and it's so good. Yes the parking lot gets tight and the bakery is small. Worst Bakery in LA! I came in here for a Reyes Magos cake and had the worst experience ever! First off, I came in a day before the the Los Reyes Magos day, which is Jan. 6. The worst service ever, the girl behind the counter had a horrible attitude, as if I was a bother to her for coming in. As you walk into this place, they have their bread placed on the sides of the walkway. I've never seen bread so stale and bland! After finally putting in my order for a large King's cake, the girl quotes me $48. I said "what?!" She said it's what it costs for a large cake, I couldn't believe it. I had read such good reviews of this place for it to then disappoint me. Came in the day after to pick up my cake, absolutely pandemonium. Line stretched out all the way out the establishment, parking (again) was abysmal. After standing in line for 30 minutes, Some dude walks up and gives his receipt to the girl behind the counter and wants to cut everyone in line. I politely say there's a line. He looks at me disgusted and says I already paid for it. I tell him, we all did. that's why we're in line. All of this goes on without anyone behind the counter saying anything. The girl behind the counter then takes my receipt and looks around to ask someone where my cake is. the pick-up specifically states 5:00 PM! I was right on the dot! She then asks some dude in the back which is taking out a fresh batch of cakes. I ask why don't i just grab one of the new ones, they refuse and run to the front of the store where they have cakes stacked up. It was the worst bakery I've ever had to deal with. I will forever stay away from this place. I understand Los Reyes Magos day is already a hectic day to begin with but the management and ownership could've done a way better job of handling lines, the people and they're regular every day business. Our go to for pan dulce. Never disappoints. There will be times that some bread will run out but with good reason, because it's delicious; hence, the spanish saying, " se va como pan caliente". One of the things that makes this place much more awesome is that they bake new bread late at night, around 8pm. The line goes out the door because so many people come to buy it fresh.
