tables and chairs in a restaurant

Spent a few days in Waterloo and came here 2 days in a row so obviously I liked it. It's not a fancy restaurant but the food was fabulous! We came here for lunch on our first visit and asked the staff what was their speciality dish. The chef/owner is from Laos and she recommended the spicy beef salad (Larb Seen). This was such a refreshing dish...very light, spicy with a good mix of herbs and the added tripe was delicious! On our second visit, we came for dinner and tried their Pad Thai, Vietnamese Pho, Satay chicken & pork vermicelli and fried chicken. All the dishes were pretty good especially the Satay chicken & pork vermicelli. The Pad Thai was only okay for me but my daughter really liked it. The only thing that I didn't like was the steamed rice which was a bit hard. It was actually good that I didn't like the rice...less carbs!

Since moving back to Uptown Waterloo, we have been walking by the sign on King street and meaning to go in. Glad to have visited on one of our date nights. Family run restaurant. They focus on making you feel welcomed, and their menu highlights a wide variety Thai and Lao style cuisine. We ordered the Tom Kha Gai which was sweet and mildly spicy. We also had the Crispy duck which was very tasty. We requested red curry based dip for the duck. They have a few other options in the menu, but they were happy to take our special request as they were not too busy. We were very happy with the service, and the convenience of quality Thai food in Uptown Waterloo, makes a visit to this restaurant a no-brainer.

Chicken teriyaki stir fry

Delicious food. Wonderfully friendly service. Very happy to support a family run business. Definitely will come back again!

Beautiful coconut sesame lotus cookie.

We ordered 2 cocktails to start with the tapioca dumplings and green papaya fritters. The drinks came out immediately. I had the Tincture Perfect, which was outstanding. It was the perfect mix of sweet, sour, floral and bitter. I loved it! My husband had the Unit 75 which he really enjoyed. The grapfruit bitters rounded out the sweetness of the Chambord and the sourness of the lemon. We decided to order another cocktail each just as our food arrived. I had the I Have a Lychee Secret. It was a little on the sweet side, but was very yummy. I loved the black pepper on top but didn't really taste much cilantro. My husband had La Passionista which was great. It was so well-balanced and flavourful. The dumplings were AMAZING! The butterly pea infused tapioca gave the perfect bouncy, chewy texture to the outside and the mushroom and radish centres were so tasty. Our waitress explained that they should be eaten in a lettuce cup with cilantro, mint and peanuts. YUM! Such a flavour bomb. The only thing I would have changed would be to add some sort of a spicy, salty, sour dipping sauce like a nuoc cham. The green papaya fritters were also just fantastic. They were crispy, crunchy and the dipping sauce was a little spicy and sweet. All in all, we really enjoyed our meal and would 100% return. I have already reccomended them to others.

The space feels welcoming and comfortable, and it's the kind of place you can settle into without feeling rushed. The tables can feel close, but everyone is in their own conversations so it's lively in the atmosphere. Parking is on the street or a green P garage minutes walk away. Service: 5/5 Service was excellent from start to finish. Friendly, attentive, and quick when it mattered, without hovering. Everything came out smoothly and the pacing of the meal never felt rushed. Just make sure to let server know of any allergies as there are nuts used in cooking. Food: 5/5 The Thai milk tea was super refreshing and easily one of the best I've had. The beef salad is a must order for its bold flavors. For mains, the drunken noodles and pineapple fried rice were great complements to the beef massaman curry. They also have lunch menu at a smaller portion for a quick bite during the week.

Reservations accepted. We ordered tapioca pearl dumplings, crispy fried rice, coffee, and soy milk with grass jelly. The tapioca pearl dumplings filled with chicken, radish and peanuts came in five and were really delicious. The coconut crispy rice was made with crispy rice, cured pork, herbs and peanuts. We loved the texture and taste of the dish - it was very refreshing with the lettuce wrap, and combined with the house-made chilli sauce, elevated it. After these two dishes, we were full and took some coconut crispy rice home. Service was quick and friendly. Chef Dao came out to speak to us after our meal, and we could see the passion and love they put into each dish. Amazing Laos food is popping up in Toronto, and this is one of those spots. Lao Food Co also offers a monthly supper club, which is a three-course prixe fixe meal - which we plan on going to in the future. The restaurant is only open on weekends. Overall, we are excited to try this neighbourhood gem and would encourage others to try delicious Laotian food at Lao Food Co. Accessibility: two steps to the restaurant, no automatic door opener, sizeable individual washroom. Neighbourhood street parking, and some public transportation options.

They specialize in Southeast Asia cuisine, namely Laotian takes on neighbouring regional cuisines like Thai, Korean, and Japanese dishes. The menu is diverse but shows intentionality. The standout dish for us was definitely the laksa. It was creamy and spicy and flavourful. Unlike other laksas I've tried it wasn't watery like a soup but was more of a richer curry bisque texture if that makes sense. The chicken pieces were tender. There were lots of vegetables in the broth. My Asian barbecue ribs were sweet-savoury. The kimchi cabbage coleslaw was tasty but I just ate some of it because I was too full from drinking up the rest of hubby's leftover laksa broth. My ramen-loving nephew devoured his miso ramen. Sara was so sweet and brought my nephew to meet the chef and kitchen crew. She also brought us complimentary Asian style churros. She offered great insight into the menu as well as her brother Bobby's journey into this business and his intention of highlighting Laotian cuisine. I was describing to a friend how at one point, a random Christmas song came on the playlist (it was March). With the warmth of family around me, my belly satiated from the delicious meal, it did feel a lot like Christmas in that one moment. Amazing food (I still dream about that laksa) and awesome staff made for a very memorable dining experience that we look forward to repeating the next time we are in the Cambridge area.
