Horrible experience with a catering job for 30 people - AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!. 5 vegetarians were given 1 vegetable dish, and 6 other dishes were for the non-vegetarians. The manager didn't do anything about it, when we called and said 1/5 of the guests ate nothing. When we called the manager did nothing about it. Arguably one of my favourite Thai cuisine places in Cambridge, Thai Coconut Island (TCI) brings authentic Northern Thai cuisine to an area that's lacking good Thai eats. It's a little hard to find as it's tucked inside a plaza, but once you dine at this gem of a place, you'll be wanting more. I've been going here for years and recently revisited this place with my family while I was passing by the area. Here's my rundown: Food: Green Papaya Salad - This was a nice kickstart to a delicious evening. I always get this dish and ask the chef to make it extra spicy because spicy food is my jam. The tangy fish sauce and the chili peppers, along with the carrots and papaya makes for a refreshing and light starter. Massaman Curry - this is a mild coconut based curry that is on the sweeter side. If you're a fan of sweet and spicy, this dish is for you! It's only available in beef and it's one of their newer menu items! Chicken Red Curry - This is a TCI favourite. I'm always coming back for their red curry because it's so delicious. They have yellow, green and red curries with the red curry being the spiciest of the three. The bamboo shoots, eggplant, chili peppers, long beans, and chicken keeps me salivating for days!! It's also available with beef, tofu prok, shrimp, or seafood. Thai Spicy Noodle Soup - Whenever I'm in the mood for something brothy, this and the Red Curry Noodle Soup are my go-tos. The fragrant broth is the elixir to all my problems of the day and it's such a comforting soup to have at the end of the day. It has a slight tang and spicy to it and comes with a side of lettuce and bean sprouts for you to add to the broth. Atmosphere: TCI makes for a great place to take your date or even dine with the family. It's SO versatile as the ambiance can fit each occasion. The lighting is slightly dim and it's definitely more modern looking than a lot of Asian cuisine places in Cambridge. Service: Service is amazing! The server is always knowledgeable about the dishes and her enthusiasm makes you excited to be in the restaurant. The server is also super attentive as well which is a plus for me! Price: Overall, the prices are very good for a place that can pose as a lunch and/or dinner place. The mango salad was $9, Red curry was $11.25, massaman curry was $12.25, and the Thai spicy noodle soup was $11.25. I don't think there's a thing on the menu that's above $15 besides their wine which is a big plus. Verdict: Overall, this place is the real deal in terms of having authentic Thai food for an affordable price. The servers here are super friendly and knowledgeable and there's so many options available to please any eater's needs. Get either the pad Thai or red/yellow/ green curries as a starter if this is your first time checking out this place. Definitely stop by here if you're in the Cambridge area as it would be a shame if you missed out on this gem. read more

No seating in for COVID time. Take out only. Good and fast service We had the traditional pad thaï and the fried wonton and chicken satay with peanut sauce. All was delicious The only thing I really did like was their tiny little and twisty plastic forks. Sorry it has nothing to do with the food. So if you have your own it will be a very good experience. Great food and quick! We started with the spring rolls within minutes of ordering and before we had finished our pad Thai and red curry. Both were delicious, the red curry had a great that crept up but was not overpowering. Nice touch with the eggplant I the red curry as well. Price is good and service was great! read more

This literally has to be one of Cambridge's best hidden spots when it comes to international foods!! Let's be honest, Cambridge isn't really known for having a wide selection of other ethnic food restaurants, but at least I now know this place has one of the best Thai restaurants in the region! Me and my partner are definitely fans and can confidentially say that the Thai food we ordered here has been one of the best places we've ever ordered Thai food from. My favourite spot in Cambridge. VERY easy to miss! The sign by the road is tiny. If I hadn't been told about this place by a friend I would never have known about it. Now my family has gone here for special occasions and take out for the past 10 years. The local Cambridge area does not have too many restaurants that stand out of the crowd. But, the first time I had lunch here I fell in love with the food, the price and the service. The lunch special here is a great value for the money, and absolutely delicious, You get a main dish, a soup/salad Every now and then I try something other than the green curry, my absolute favorite here, I'm never disappointed. I've tried green curry in various restaurants across Canada and the U.S, including Toronto, New York and Chicago. The one they serve here has beat them all and you get the friendliest staff in all of Cambridge. My only recommendation to the staff would be to serve the soup before the rest of the food is done. Rather spur of the moment my daughters and I dropped in, asking if we could order right then for delivery later. They were perfectly lovely about it, let us take our time going over the menu. The food was fabulous and very reasonable. Delivery was just when we asked and everything was hot and fresh. Family run, using fresh ingredients, made-to-order dishes arrive piping hot and extremely flavorful. Excellent service too providing recommendations and advice. The restaurant's wall of windows provide a cold draft, so pick a table furthest from the windows and front door as it was downright chilly inside. Affordable prices, moderate portions and authentic tasty food will bring us back for sure. Might do take out next time. read more

One of the best local Thai food restaurants! Fresh food and very flavourful. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Decor leaves a bit to be desired, very basic. For a long time I have used Yelp to screen places worth trying out but have never felt as motivated to actually sign up and contribute my own reviews until I tried all the other options in/around town that I realized how great the food here really is. In fact it was after trying another sub-par Thai restaurant last night that I decided this place really needs to be recognized for what they do. The lunch special is definitely worth the money, the food is rich in flavour and selection. The food is fresh cooked, tasty and the portions are generous. After trying every other Thai restaurant in a 15km radius (no joking) including some that are actually very close and there's a reason I keep returning to Thai Coconut Island. The staff has always been pleasant and it seems like a genuine family owned and run business, the kind you feel good to support. What brings me back to this place is the Pad Thai, it's not just a whole $1 package of noodles boiled in tamarind topped and then later garnished with a few token pieces of chicken (as many other places do). At Thai Coconut island your dish actually tastes like the whole thing was prepared and cooked together. There's a nice assortment of vegetables, just the right amount of sauce and generous amount of whatever meat you select mixed together to give a very uniform taste. On the off chance people might think this review is fake or biased I will mention the one small thing that disappointed me. I was originally really surprised to hear that they serve bubble tea, yes it is complete with tapioca (even though this is a Thai place) but the selection of flavours is on the weak side and overall it will do. I don't think there are other places in Cambridge which even serve bubble tea but if that's what you're really after there are some wonderful places a short drive away in Waterloo. If you're in the mood for great Thai food in the KWC area, Thai Coconut Island is the only place to go! read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant, Don't expect good service was the number one takeaway from my experience here. The food was pretty good, definitely not the best Thai I have had, but the service frankly sucked, which diminished the overall experience. The waitress was not attentive at all. It took a long time to get menus and then for her to take our order. She didn't check on us or refill our waters, which one would expect especially with spicy Thai food. The waitress was busy either sitting down at a table with family/friends whoever they were, towards the back of the restaurant, or otherwise ignoring us, doing god knows what considering it was not busy. It took a long time to get our food, we had to flag down the waitress or other visible staff whenever we needed anything and eventually had to go hunt down our bill. Maybe it was a bad night, but I can't recommend this place. If you do decide to eat here, make sure you have plenty time and bring your patience. read more

I got 'Mango Smoothie' Thai basil spicy beef tomatoe soup, pork Crispy Rolls and cold rolls. Everything was delicious, I'd order the soup again and the pork rolls.. now reason for the 3 stars? I found a fly in the spring rolls sauce that it comes with.. that leaves me thinking, it either isn't that fresh, or they just leave the sauce open, so anything could fall into it.. the Mango Smoothie was more of a slushie.. a Smoothie is creamy. The fly in the sauce through me off and vecause of that I will Never order from here again. Look thoroughly before serving customers because I could have been a regular and now I won't be. The lady over the phone was decent but had issues with recommending which is never good for business.. for people who ask for recommendations, Always have it ready and that is why it is good to be familiar with the menu because you do come across humans who like to play the dare game and just go for whatever is recommended.
