Red Basil is a great place for satisfying that Vietnamese food craving. The price is great for the amount of food you get. The flavor is localized, so along side pho and lemongrass dishes there is also orange chicken and other american-asian dishes. The area is pedestrian only and has lots of free parking around the area. The restaurant has plenty of seating for 2s, 4s, and more and is only one floor. We had a mix of food ordered, but the battered chicken with egg noodles was impressive, it was a large portion and had a fluffy and moist chicken overtop the noodles. It was lots of food, and could have made great leftovers if we didn't devour it all. The service is on the slower side, they only had one server that day and the chef came out to help out. All-in-all the wait was around 20-25 min to get from order to food on the table and it was enjoyable. Would come back again to try the duck next time. read more

My hubby and I have eaten here many times since we moved to Cambridge. Located in downtown Cambridge, you can find parking on the streets or at a municipal parking lot behind the restaurant. I like getting a bowl of pho with rare beef, number 22 on the menu. I also tried their rice paper spring rolls, fried spring rolls, coconut shrimp, crispy duck with peanut sauce, pork vermicelli, ginger tea and more. They have been decent, but my favourite has been the pho. Service is usually friendly and efficient. It is a narrow restaurant, so it can seat more people than you would expect. Atmosphere is casual, and they do seem to have a bar where you can order drinks. read more

On Saturday Aug. 18 2023 My 2 sisters and I, and 2 nieces who are visiting from out of town, had the pleasure of eating at the Red Basil in Cambridge. The main reason this restaurant was chosen, was the reviews my sister had read on the Celiac Disease site on-line. Both her and her 2 daughters must eat gluten free. I was surprised that they were not busy, since the street was closed and the was a lot of fun things happening and many people on the street. Those who have not been to this restaurant do not know what they are missing. First of all they were very accommodating of my wheelchair. The service was prompt and pleasant. The food however was great. The veggies were fresh and cooked perfectly, as was the rest of our dishes. Delicious food and the prices were no more than what I have paid in a local food court for "fast food". My two sisters and I will certainly be back. Red Basil was a good meal. It is not the incredibly tasty fresh and vibrant food that comes from the Viet-Thai food culture, but a western version. I ordered a crispy chicken dish which was battered with a thick and heavy "fish and chip" style batter, which takes away from the lightness of Viet food. The vegetable spring rolls were good. A solid choice, however if you are used to authentic Viet food you may be dissapointed. read more

Excellent food at affordable prices. Fresh, homemade, and tasty. The cold fresh spring rolls are the best! Their special red basil fried rice is a favourite in our house, along with the pad Thai. I would say this is one of the better Vietnamese restaurants in the area. Great food and decent selection of wines. We always visit this restaurant with friends of us that live in Cambridge, and we take few different dishes. With ever popular sharing option in exotic cuisine restaurants we had opportunity to try many items from their menu. I was always saying that, Classicos restaurant in Kitchener had the best mussels, and we enjoy them there many times. Unfortunately Classicos closed few years back and I couldn't find comparable mussels until we tried them at Red Basil. At my last visit, I had them as an appetizer and then order them again as main course. Yes, they are that good. Crispy roast duck is great, and their fried rice is superb. Went to Red Basil for the first time on Friday night. Good variety of vegetarian and omnivorous options. Service was great. I had the Green Curry (very spicy, but delicious) and my friend had the Pho, which she really enjoyed. The food was pretty good - but the spring rolls had a very store-bought, fresh from the freezer quality. For that reason, I'd have to rank it the 2nd best Vietnamese/Thai restaurant in Cambridge. read more

Had dinner here last Spring with my Mother-in-law. Restaurant was packed with people on a Friday night, we even saw some people my Mother-in-law knew. You could tell the restaurant was newly renovated, new decor, casual and relaxed atmosphere. We we're seated by a friendly waitress, took our drink orders right away. I ordered a Taro bubble tea, it was over flowing from the glass but definitely slurpilicious! I'd keep coming back to this place, just for that bubble tea alone. Then we shared some of their imperial spring rolls for appetizer, but it was a bit bland for my taste, my Mother-in-law liked it though. I ordered the Red Basil pad Thai (i know what your thinking, why the hell would you order Thai food in a Vietnamese restaurant? Are you cray-cray?) Well... I was craving for noodles and I didn't really want to order Pho (noodle soup) or Com Tam ( cooked rice noodles served with bbq'ed meat). I ordered pad Thai extra hot because I like spicy food and they didn't fail to disappoint! It was hot that I had to order a diet coke and water at the same time. They took awhile to serve it, but I had my taro bubble tea and spring rolls to keep me satiated. I forgot what my Mother-in-law ordered, but I remember her relishing about the food she had. Great fresh food for reasonable price! My husband and I tried this place as an alternative to our regular pizza take out and it was a refreshing healthy change! We got take out but dine in area looked decent too. We ordered the chicken pad Thai and beef pan fried noodles.
