Went there for dinner wasn't that busy at all. Service was extremely lacklustre not sure if it was the server' first day. Food was excellent and unfortunately the service ruined everything. - Bread finally showed up after we had already ordered appetizers pretty pointless to be serving bread after appetizers. the two rolls that we received seemed stale. - ordered the four cheese pizza asked for chillies and hot sauce on the side and the pizza came with the chillies on it that is so immensely strange we've never ever had pizza with a crush chilli peppers already on it that's for us to put on our own if we wish to have them. - ordered the Mediterranean board one of the tomatoes had fallen on the table another server or someone from the restaurant decided to bring us a bowl of other small cherry tomatoes strangely enough they had flour on them seriously guys when you're handling food wash your hands that's really gross not sure why they would have flour on them! - Server seemed extremely flustered I could understand it if the restaurant inside was packed and the patio was packed but there was barely anybody inside the restaurant and there were three tables outside not sure what he was all flustered about but totally ruined our experience for a Friday night dinner read more

Very nice decor, but that's where the "good" ends. The menu is absolutely bipolar. I don't know who dreamed up the items on it, but there wasn't a single thing that didn't have a major turn-off on it. No theme to the food, just a bunch of random dishes with even more random ingredients. Got the "hot" wings appetizer. They clearly get their wings from the "meatless wing" store. They were mostly bones and skin, and while spicy, there had obviously been a big delay between when they were ready and when we got them (which was after the entrees), much like everything else we ordered. Hard to understand, given there were only two other patrons in the restaurant at the time. Entree for me was the margherita flatbread. Tasted okay, but again, not hot. It was served with french fries. Their fries are the lowest-quality fast-food "barnacle fry" type, the coated fries that places like Burger King, Dairy Queen, and KFC used a few years ago but have since abandoned. Our two year old enjoyed them. I certainly didn't. My wife got the eggs benedict. It took a bit of persuasion to get it. While it says on the door that brunch is served until 3 on Saturdays, the waitress initially said they were changing their menu and brunch wasn't available. We had her check with the cook, and, given there was really nobody else in the joint, the cook was okay with it. The eggs benny was overcooked, hash browns undercooked. The big kick in the teeth here was the price. They're more expensive than Browns, and nowhere near as good in terms of service or food quality. Prices are about the same as Earls, again, no comparison on any level except the decor. Won't be going back. read more

Mario helped us book the private dining for a short wedding ceremony, the staff was very nice. We were there at the venue 10 minutes earlier even before they open and they opened the restaurant so we can setup. Scotty did a good job in helping us with the food and drink options! She's just a 3 dressed up as a 9. Honestly...the server was great...ambience...awesome, but the food was at best, mediocre. The dish I did think was not bad, the mussels with Thai curry, was paired with fries that had parmesan on them, the resulting combination of flavour was distinctly soapy, while the curry by itself was quite pleasant. Here you have a head chef trying to create a dining experience like Cactus Club or Joey, but just not having the palate to pull it off. read more

Hip nice decor. As a well travelled foodie, it is the meals and service that matter to me as well. Have eaten at Chameleon at least 6 occasions. There is lot of frills and pretence with many entrees just frozen dinners dolled up. I can taste fresh, local, carefully prepped food and chameleon as the name implies is a sham. MR desperately needs a good quality eatery, but despite the lovely veneer this restaurant is low on quality, overpriced, pretentious. Servers lack info at bar and food. I came here on the weekend for a birthday party. There were about 10 of us so we were given a private room on the top floor. The decor is beautiful and you definitely feel like you're dining at a downtown establishment. It's quite refreshing to have a place with this kind of ambiance in a town like Maple Ridge. The menu itself is not bad. The had the organic quinoa and black bean burger with a side Caesar salad. It was quite good but the patty crumbled easily making it hard to eat. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their dishes as well. The service. Oh dear god the service. I have never met such a rude, condescending, jerk of a waiter in my entire life! Since we were a larger group and gratuity was automatically added to our bills he decided it was ok to be a complete and utter ass to us. First of all, he failed to bring us menus for a good 30 minutes. I actually had to go downstairs and ask. Keep in mind there were probably only 3 other customers in the restaurant so he wasn't busy at all. Anyways, he eventfully brought them and proceeded to talk to us like school children about ordering, not moving seats because it gets confusing and how the billing works. Umm...I think we know. We are all 25 years+. Seriously, get a grip guy. Then one of the other girls decided to close the window because a breeze was entering the room. The waiter noticed and asked her if she was cold. She said yes and in the most arrogant tone of voice ever, he replied "well I'm the one who has to run up and down these stairs a million times." Are you kidding? Shut your little waiter pie hole and keep on waitering. No one cares what you think. I seriously think he has a few screws loose. My friend and I shared our meal so I kindly asked him to split our bill. Instead of just saying no problem, he decided to give me a lecture on how he can't physically split the bill and that he would mentally do the math at the end. Uhhh...duh...16.21 divided by two is uhhh. MORON! There is so much more to say about this waiter but I'm just going keep it at this. He seriously put a sour taste in everyone's mouth and ruined the mood of the party. For the service alone, I will not be returning to Chameleon Cafe ever again. I would rather drive to Vancouver to a real fine dining restaurant where people don't have to be worried about being talked down to by a numb skull. Anyways, pass on this place. The decor is fantastic and so is the ambiance and the service. Maple Ridge needs this badly, and I am very glad it exists, I wish them all the best. I will return, but I'd like to see an improvement in the items we ordered. The Ribeye was not good. Poorly salted and no char at all. No point coming to a restaurant for steak, if you aren't going to get it cooked with significant chart (the crust was soft), and a lack of salt is unacceptable. It was paired with mashed potatoes, but no sauce or gravy for the mashed potatoes; they were incredibly bland. This dish was bad. My wife ordered the blackened Chicken. This was much better. Everything but the Ribeye gets a 5, but the Ribeye was awful. read more

finally made it in to chameleon in maple ridge for a few quick drinks and a pizza we had a very nice surprise the pizza was absolutely delicious and actually better than some we've had on commercial drive it was happy hour and beer and wine was only $5! they also oysters on sale and the bartender/ waiter was very friendly and attentive...the restaurant is very nice inside and they also have an outdoor patio for the warmer weather .... nicely done! read more

A belated birthday dinner last night at Chameleon in Maple Ridge was worth the wait. The inviting ambience of the restaurant set the stage for a relaxed dinner. We were shown to a quiet table tucked away where we could see everything. The cocktails were very nicely done. After that we shared the ginger beef appetizer which we both enjoyed. For main courses we had the bison and the salmon. Both were beautifully presented and delicious. Dessert and a B52 completed the meal. Lovely. The lighting is very nice and the furnishings are as well. The service eas friendly although not overly personal. We'll be back. On the downside I am sorry that the restaurant feels they must have a TV with sports on. It detracts from the upmarket feel of the place. I would also like more attention paid to the music which did not lend itself to an upmarket place. Finally we found the bread lightweight and lacking in flavour. It is a personal taste thing but we like more dense bread that has more flavour. Overall these small things won't deter us from regular visits in the future. read more

We met another couple for dinner at Chameleon Cafe. The restaurant itself was quite lovely with the exception of the television overhead playing sports - which did not quite fit in with the feel of the restaurant. The constant flashing of the television was super distracting. I had ordered a virgin drink because I was pregnant. When our friends arrived, my girlfriend asked for a mojito and pointed towards mine. The waiter pointed out it was a virgin drink - not a huge deal as these were close friends... but awkward. We ended up at the restaurant for about 3 hours not because we necessarily wanted to be, but because that was how long appetizers, food and service took. We felt somewhat neglected by our waiter. Our water glasses were empty at least 3 times - which maybe wouldn't have been a big deal had I been drinking - but I was only drinking my virgin drink and water. The table next to us were clearly friends of the server and got all his attention. They managed to have their food delivered promptly, table cleared, glasses topped up and received their bill without issue. The food was pretty good - no complaints about the food. read more

Much better the second time around! I'm glad I decided to give it a second chance! The new menu is fantastic! I had the quinoa BBQ chicken salad and it was great, lots of flavor and very satisfying. My friend had the farmers omelet and she loved it! I'll definitely be returning again. read more

Love the service and the food, we moved to Maple Ridge recently and were sad to leave so many restaurants behind in Vancouver but luckily we found this place. We sat in the lounge where the bartender served and made us drinks, he was funny and attentative. My Lychee cocktail was phenomenal even though I'm not big into sweet drinks, it was the perfect balance. My husband proposed to me after our dinner here on Valentines Day, it had a special place in our hearts now and we are never disappointed. read more

I've gone here twice. First time I stopped in to try some oysters and wine. My server paired a beautiful white wine with the oysters and seemed knowledgable about the food. There was grit and shell pieces in about 50% of my oysters which was a bit of a bummer, but I'm not familiar enough with oysters to know whether or not that is acceptable. Regardless, they were delicious and fresh. The amount of time taken for the oysters to get to me left a lot to be desired. It was about 15 minutes for 6 oysters to make it from the kitchen to my seat at the bar, and the restaraunt wasn't busy. Second time I came here was with a party of 6 for my Dad's birthday. Service was quick and fabulous, the food was AMAZING (with one exception, which I'll get to shortly) and the atmosphere was great. Once again, there was grit and shell pieces in the oysters we ordered which was unpleasant. My Dad's wife ordered some sort of seafood ravioli dish which was not good, at all. It was terribly fishy. With that said, they offered to either take her meal off the bill or bring her something new. No arguing. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese and it was fantastic. The portion was huge and I ended up sharing it with everyone at the table. My sister's got the chicken sandwich on cranberry foccacia and it was fabulous, my dad actually said it was the best chicken sandwhich he had ever had in his life. My Dad and brother got the chicken, which they both enjoyed. Overall I really like this place. My only big belly ache is that I think they need a more experienced oyster shucker. read more

We celebrated my moms 80th birthday at Chameleon's. We were a large group of 17 and had a private room upstairs with use of a projector and screen which allowed us to have a photo display during dinner. The service was great and the food was served in a timely manner. The staff were able to accommodate and modify some meals for a few guests who had food allergies. We had a great time here and would highly recommend this restaurant gem to our families and friends. Thank you for a great evening Chameleon staff! read more

My husband and I went in there last week for a nice romantic dinner. They definitely hit the mark on the atmosphere but completely missed it on the food and drinks. Its unfortunate because there aren't that many other options in Maple Ridge. Hopefully they will take these reviews in to consideration and liven up the menu. read more

Last night I ordered the special (curried lamb). Was served a pasta/lamb dish instead. When I asked the waitress about the mix up, she said that they ran out of the special and substituted another dish instead. WTF? The waitress offered to have something else made for me, but it's kind of late at that point as everyone else in my dinner party had been served and I was hungry. I should have put up a stink at that point but figured it wasn't worth the aggravation. The waitress did offer me a small token of apology, free dessert. One of the biggest disappointments is that the manager couldn't be bothered to apologize. It's too bad. Everyone else in my party was happy with their order and the pasta dish I did get was ok ... just not what I ordered. read more

My intention here isn't to bash this place, but my god it was one of the worst meals we've ever had; I hope this doesn't just sound like I'm super picky, but there were so many oversights and lack of skill in the preparation... The restaurant itself its quite nice, friendly enough staff. Lets start at the beginning... We roll up to the restaurant and see a sandwich board sign that lists the two daily oysters - awesome! We love oysters. After ordering a few for each myself and my husband, they let us know that they actually only had one kind; that's fine, bring us just the one kind. After some confusion we could hear in the kitchen, the oysters arrive; there's totally two different kinds of oysters on the plate (Miyagi and Fanny Bay were advertised). Again, no worries because we wanted this anyway. Next comes the Foie Gras Calvados. This was actually quite good, the highlight of the evening. It was cooked perfectly rare, all around what we were looking for. Cocktails arrive... we order a house Caesar and some play on a whiskey sour. The Caesar comes with bacon, a prawn, olive and a pickle - sure, sign me up. I'm all for an oversized, silly Caesar; the unfortunate part here was it had no flavour in the drink itself and the prawn was old, a little fishy and tasted of the cooler it was sitting in. Whiskey sour drink - it was okay. Benton's old fashioned - I only had a sip but was one of the worst drinks I've ever had; extremely sweet and strange tasting. Entrees show up: RANGELAND ELK OSSO BUCCO and CRUSTED PACIFIC HALIBUT. Both look just fine at first glance. Lets start with the Elk: From the top, its garnished with what looks like carrot peels that have gone through the deep fryer and didn't manage to crisp up; those get moved to the side. No gremolata as the menu states, bummer.The elk, its a little dry but it's also quite lean so that can happen. The part that made me the most sad was that there was almost no sauce with the meat, which is what I was looking forward to; a nice braised piece of elk with a rich, sauce. What little sauce was on the plate was super bland; both the elk and sauce didn't taste seasoned at all. Next comes the veg, a reappearance of carrots, this time cut into pretty thin slivers and roasted. Again, same texture as the garnish on top but different shape. I don't understand using the same veg for garnish and side. This brings us to the cream parm. polenta. It was unreal how poorly cooked this was. Again, very under seasoned, but moreover gritty, lumpy and dry. It actually brought a little tear to my eye. My husband had a halibut so I can't give quite as full of a description. Essentially, it was an alright size of fish, maybe ~5oz. The dish cost 23.00 so I'm thinking, ''hey, that's not too bad''. The whole dish consisted of the halibut, a little bit of smeared mango orange beurre blanc, ~7 green beans and a big pile of old, white rice. See, its actually not that cheep when you consider you are paying 23.00 for a piece of fish. I'm not adverse to paying money for food, we've eating at Per Se and happily paid the cost. I'm also pretty happy when hitting up McDonald's and you get exactly what you know you are getting. Now, I'm not comparing this or any other place to Per Se but it sucks when you go out for dinner, pay 100.00 for food that is really just not up to par. I wanted to like this place, we really did. We're new to MR from Vancouver and were looking forward to finding a nicer place to ear, but boy we will not be back which is super unfortunate. read more

My husband and I have been looking forward to trying Chameleon for quite some time now. We were impressed by the appetizers and the first 30 minutes of our visit. Over the next 75 minutes, I ordered another glass of wine (never got), watched other customers receive their orders (who arrived after we did) and asked twice about our meal. We were assured it was coming, with apologies. We arrived at 530, and at 715 our waiter came back (still no wine) and advised us he had FORGOTTEN to place our order! No offer of comped appetizer, drink, nothing. We paid and left, quite disappointed. In the very least, there should have been SOME effort made to entice us to return. Nope, Nada, Nothing. As I walked in with my boyfriend, the hostess glanced at my shoes, looked up in distaste (which were sneakers rather than heels, though I was in a nice dress)and immediately sat us right beside the entrance, in this horrible table. The table is right beside the fire exit, and you're sitting beside a refrigerated display glass. The servers cant see you, so if you want to try and flag your waiter, good luck. Food was alright. Nice ambiance but quite disappointed with our food. On the pasta order we requested a cream sauce as opposed to a rose, and that was served wrong. On the burger we requested no onions, no tomatoes and that also was served wrong. I guess 50/50 is good in some situations, but not when you're paying four star prices for two star quality of service. Not that I expected the meals to be comped (which they weren't), but it would have been nice if the manager had come over and apologized for their mix up or heck, it would have been nice not to witness the waitress and chef bicker about who's fault it was. read more

As it is, they only have two beers on tap, but tonight there were ZERO, which was disappointing. However, they redeemed themselves by the level of service and quality of food. The wait staff was very attentive. I had the Elk osso bucco, which was amazing. Overall, a great experience. read more

It's rare we get a night away from kids. I was so excited to go and have oysters after their Facebook page teased me with a post about them. We couldn't get there in time for buck a shuck but I was willing to pay the full price. We ordered them and added a glass of wine to compliment them. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. Our waitress told us they were 'training' in the kitchen. She was very sweet. And we waited. It took over 50 minutes to get the oysters and I'd finished the glass of wine to compliment them. She did bring me another at least. Finally we dive in. They came with 1 tiny lemon wedge (really?), a vinegarette and horseradish and no spoon.... My boyfriend takes his first one and then I see him start to pull small and large bits of shell out of his mouth. We ate 3 each of the dozen and all 3 had crazy amounts of shell. The waitress comes and we let her know. She takes them away and then comes back to inform us the manager and owner said that is normal and there was nothing wrong with them. Huh? Uh.....no. I have had oysters many, many times and that is not normal. And they took 50 flipping minutes to come. Remember 'training' in the kitchen? Clearly someone did not know what they were doing. They took them off the bill (obviously) but I swear I was picking shell out of my month for the next hour. I was looking forward to that all day, what a huge disappointment!!!! I wanted oysters!! I asked to speak to the owner/manager but he did not ever show up. Clearly he doesn't truly care about his customers or he would have come up and spoken to us. The restaurant itself was very nice. I believe our waiter was new so I won't comment on his abilities. I had made reservations yet we were still seated in the lounge area with love seats that would make it impossible to eat properly so we asked to be seated at an actual table. We had the fried calamari has an appetizer and were very disappointed in the portion size and that the majority of it was filler with fried peppers. I ordered the filet mignon with lobster mashed potatoes. Once my dish came it was quite obvious that it wasn't a filet mignon and was a striploin which was well done and not my medium rare that I had requested. The waiter promptly brought my dish back to the kitchen and less than 30 seconds later I had my filet mignon which was still well done. At this point I just wanted to eat so I didn't say anything. The manager came by to fill up our glasses of wine and insinuated that the kitchen often replaces the filet mignon with the striploin. Honestly this restaurant highly disappointed me and I won't be returning which is unfortunate as maple ridge needs good restaurants and this one had the potential but just fell short of it. read more
