A very unassuming hole in the wall spot in Hilo. I've only ever had take out here but had lunch there the other day and it was good. Especially loved the banchan. We ordered yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), spicy squid , mandoo (dumpling soup) and a combo platter which included donkatsu and 1 kalbi. The soups are heavily seasoned with instant beef broth flavoring/msg. The spicy squid was the best thing. Kids enjoyed the fried katsu and kalbi. We finished our dishes because we've been eating a lot local food and needed some spicy dishes. It did the job but I definitely don't see myself coming back if in the island again. Had food pictures on the wall of what they offered. We ordered bentos for about $10 each and dumplings. The bentos we got were meat jun, bbq chicken, and spicy pork. Flavors were not all there. Best Spicy pork I've tasted so far! So, I'm from Honolulu but was in Hilo for a conference. My tita picked me up and I told her I wanted to eat Korean food. So, we spotted this place. At first I thought it was closed because the parking lot was so dim looking. When we get in, there were only about 4 people in the restaurant, which was good! I was really hungry so I ordered the combination plate with meat jun and spicy pork. I wanted spicy because I hadn't had spicy in a while. After waiting about 10 minutes, the plate arrives and I'm shocked. The portion was huge and the spicy pork was DELICIOUS, had just the right amount of heat. Even the sides of veggies was "broke da mouth". Mahalo nui to Cham Cham for being there when I needed to get my Korean fix on. I think next time I return to Hilo I will try the soups! Menu had a nice mix of choices, opted for the 2 choice meat aloha mixed plate for $21. I was impressed that I got a small mix of ban chan with the meal, there were 5-6 items on the separate plate. Kal bi was tasty but salty and the rib was pretty thin. The spicy pork was also pretty thin and had a mostly bean paste flavor and not much spicy. This place is really disgusting ordered Kalbi ribs and they hid one whole rib burnt under my other ribs, the cook really taught we wouldn't have noticed the burnt rib lol, people were coming in without masks when it's posted on the door wear a mask before entering, the owner walked in with no mask and with a dog and walked that dog straight into the kitchen no telling if there's hairs in your food! Never knew this Korean restaurant existed in Hilo. I actually heard about this place from friends but I was never interested in coming nor did I know where it was. Surprisingly, it was a lot better than I expected. But then, I had zero high expectation for it so that is probably why I liked it more than I thought. This restaurant is located in thid weird street along with Hilo Lunch Shops and another Korean restaurant called Seoul Station. Parking is off gravel by the street and the entrance is in the corner. It's pretty small. Only about 8-9 tables. Not fancy or anything. It's just minimal to be honest. But they do have air conditioning which is pretty rare in Hilo. The server here was super nice. She refilled my water frequently without me asking her. The sidedishes that came before our entree, was pretty good. I am Korean and I can say that theyre close to 'banchans' I had back home in California from Koreatown. I ordered Seafood Tofu Soup and it was surprisingly good. It is pretty expensive - $13.99 but everything in Hilo is overpriced so whatever. A bowl of tofu soup in LA would only cost me $8.99-$9.99 at max and comes with a lot more sidedishes, stonepot rice and option to choose spicy level. However, this place passes for this soup for a Korean girl. It was pretty good and the portion was pretty generous too. It didnt have a lot of seafood but just 'ok' amount of some squid, tiny shrimp and one mussel. All in all, it was a satisfactory lunch. I would occasionally come back to try other Korean dishes like Jjajangmyun or Yookgyejang.
