Pork Ban Mi

My wife likes to get the cold noodle with spring rolls, it's usually okay, but too expensive. I got a pork ban mi sandwich and for $11 I would not recommend it or order again. Barely any pork, no cilantro no chili, no mayonnaise which is supposed to be in it and gives it flavor. Almost $27 for these two items. Unless my wife is really craving rice noodle I'm not going back. BTW, I should have taken a photo of the sandwich, it looked nothing like this photo of the way it should look that was made at a real Vietnamese restaurant. It looked like a small loaf of bread and couldn't see inside of it! Really not good, I was hungry so I ate it but was tempted to throw it away.

Easily a 5 star! They have a great team, fast and nice. The restaurant is clean and ready to serve. Tucked away so just the right amount of traffic.

We went for dinner with no reservation and got seated immediately. Cozy vibes with local music playing. Service is attentive and really nice. But the food was the star of the show, everything so delicious. Portions are good for the price. I'm coming back here again soon! No complaints here, yummy yummy yummy the best food

Ordered their House Special Crispy Noodles at $17.99 for takeout. This is what I received. The noodles were not crispy since they placed the vegetables and sauce on the noodles in one container. So it was essentially just an order of fried noodles which is priced at $13.99. To make it worse, it was unremarkable in taste. Other restaurants keep the vegetables and sauce separately for takeouts. These folks lack the thoughtfulness, pride in the food they prepare and customer service. Avoid this place.

This takeout is easy to miss as you're heading down upper Kinoole. It is a must try! They have a very wide selection of Chinese, Vietnamese and local specials. They also have daily specials which feature in season vegetable/meat dishes. I had the pork egg roll/rice noodle plate (salad type) and it was yummy, light and fresh. I asked another customer what their go-to dish was and anything salt/pepper is number 1!

Came in here for an early lunch. Very clean restaurant. Friendly staff. Quick service. Excellent food. We had the salt and pepper pork ribs and salt and pepper shrimp. Both plates were so flavorful and loaded with lots of fried garlic. Definitely would visit again. We shared an order of summer rolls. This was ok. I enjoy summer rolls that are full or herbs such as mint and cilantro. This summer roll just had cabbage and I think carrots. All in all, good hole in the wall place. Plenty parking.

Food and service are good. However, the amount of food is too little for an adult. I got a Pho Nam Vang. It looks like a kid size bowl. My husband got a rice plate. Rice is okay but not much meat to eat.

My first red flag was when the table in the front had a hair in their food .... But hey that's beside the point. The shrimp fried rice had 7 shrimp...7!!! It's not seasoned at all just egg and boiled shrimp , not even a lil green onion or soy sauce ..then the duck was like greasy and lacked luster and I asked for the duck "sauce "/ drippings and I was given hosin sauce ( ew) but I ate some because I'm not wasting my money lol. Did I mention I payed $58....... And for that much I would've expected the customer service to be top tier ... and no shocker the food matched the customer service 0/10 again. I'm not mad just disappointed. First restaurant in Hilo -0 /10 .

The restaurant itself seems like your typical Chinese restaurant setup with some booths along the window and larger round tables in the middle. It is a smaller restaurant, so maybe 10ish tables are inside max. We try to mix things up every time we come, but we always get the salt pepper pork ribs and the hot and sour soup! I find most places are either a hot or miss with the soup, but they are definitely my favorite place that makes it! And the pork ribs are the best. As my mom puts it, they're the perfect accompaniment to any meal since they're so crispy and tasty. She even commented she would get just the ribs so she can "snack" on it while watching the Super Bowl. Service can be a bit on the slower side, but every time we came, there's only been one person in the front answering the phone while catering to the people dining in and I believe they make the food when you order it so definitely not a quick place to eat if you're short on time but I find the wait always worth it.

The servers were running around all night, and it seemed that they were a little bit understaffed. However, they still did their best to attend to us, and food came out promptly. As most other pho shops, they provide plenty of bean sprouts, mint, lemons, and sauces (oyster sauce/Sriracha) to enjoy. Pho Rare Beef (6.5/10) - the broth was good, flavorful, rich and salty as expected from Vietnamese pho. As this spot is kind of a Viet/Chinese fusion, don't go in expecting the best pho of your life. However, the broth is definitely delicious and will fix your pho cravings - only comment is regarding the beef itself. Some of the pieces were definitely a little thicker, tougher, and at points difficult to chew. The beef was not then these sliced into the brisket that I'm used to finding, but that's OK Overall, pretty good pho spot on the Big Island with quite tasty broth. Only wish that the beef was either thinner and easier to chew, or more tender.

We showed up right when they opened at 5:30 p.m. without reservations on a Wednesday evening and was luckily able to get seated at the bar. Between the two of us, we ordered a bunch of items off the "small" section of the menu, including the smokey sashimi, sizzling tetsuyaki poke, smoked tonnato caesar, crispy rice, and their special of the day -- agedashi wontons. Of the items we ordered, the crispy rice and the agedashi wontons were my favorite items. The crispy rice is priced per piece, and you'll certainly want to order at least two per person, because one is simply not enough. The rice block is fried a beautiful golden brown -- similar to a hash brown. The crispy rice pairs perfectly with the ono mixture on top of it. With the agedashi wontons, I initially thought the filling was a bit under-seasoned at first, but when enjoyed with the broth, the wonton comes out tasting perfectly seasoned. The broth had so much umami to it and the wonton had the perfect crunch to it I always love a good Caesar salad and the one here is spectacular. With anchovy croutons, shaved cured egg yolk, and smoked ahi dressing, you're getting some creative, premium ingredients in this salad and everything works so well together. Even if you're not a salad person, I would definitely recommend giving this dish a try. On top of delicious food, the service at Moon & Turtle was spectacular. Food was promptly brought out after we placed our order, pacing didn't ever feel rushed, our water cups were never empty, and our server checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. I would definitely stop by Moon & Turtle again if I'm in Hilo.
