Ordered a combo pho and husband got the kalbi rice plate. Kalbi was phenomenal!! I went a little overboard with the chili oil and made my pho small kine spicy so it took awhile but we ordered, ate and left within 45 minutes. If you're Vietnamese looking for a Pho place to eat, stay clear of this place. Never trust a Pho place that doesn't have Nuoc Beo (IYKYK). I came in and was seated right away, ordered the Pho Dat Biet. It came with rare steak, flank and meatballs. Not that Dat biet if you ask me. I asked the server if they had nuoc beo, and he said no. Happened to be at the Mac store and saw this place. Interesting menu, super clean, lots of seating. Had spring rolls which were delicious, peanut sauce, yes! The service was super quick and the bowl came out within 5 minutes. The broth was on the salty side and it was not clear. The pho was flavorless and unseasoned. The broth tasted more like water than anything. It definitely didn't taste like beef bones were boiled for a long period of time to create the broth. Ive eaten quite a few pho on Oahu, and this place in Hilo is top notch! I got super happy with the quantity and quality of the chicken pho I ordered. It was savory, with large pieces of chicken and was accompanied by a good amount of fresh basil and bean sprouts. My boyfriend ordered the kalbi beef plate and said it was really tasty. It's a hole in the wall location, but very clean and bright. It's quite affordable for what you get. I'm definitely coming back to try out the other dishes on menu. The food is well presented - though for the rice plate the portion is relatively small. Having said that the reasonable pricing is probably reflective of the portions. As Americans we just eat too much! These portions are probably more correct! We enjoyed the Grilled Pork Rice Plate, the Grilled Beef sandwich, Spring Rolls and a Vietnamese ice coffee. Really love this place. It's a cute "hole in the wall" place serving authentic Vietnamese dishes. It's a limited menu but the dishes are really yummy and tasty. My husband and I tried the beef and pork roll, meatball pho, van special and Philly cheesesteak banh mi. All of it was really delicious. I phoned in an order for Pho Tai Nam x5, Pho Bo Vien, and Pho Tai Bo Vien. I picked up the order only to find out the order was wrong once I got home. I ended up getting Pho Tai Nam x6 and Pho Nam. They left out the meatballs. I called back letting them know. I have 4 hungry kids and I had taken out all the containers ready to prepare to make the bowls when I called back. The cashier said I had to return all the food back so he can inspect; instead of me driving back to pick up the meatballs. My wife and I had to repack everything back into the bags. We drove back in the heavy rain. When we got back to the restaurant, the kitchen guy went to inspect. I told them there's nothing to inspect, we were missing the meatballs. The kitchen guy said that I only had to bring the receipt, but they already had a copy of the same receipt I had also brought back. He proceeded to open every container like we were lying about our orders. He goes back into the kitchen to put in the few meatballs that he never included. Like for the trouble we went through to drive all the way back in the heavy rain, he could have thrown in more than 2.5 meatballs. If it weren't for 4 hungry kids, I would have just returned all the food for a refund. There wasn't much food to begin with.
