I approached Chalet Chicago and asked the security guard if there was a cover charge--he said no. There was nobody else in line outside; it was just him and another security guard. I walked around the velvet rope with my friend. He watched me enter and did nothing, only telling me I couldn't enter after checking my friend, claiming my outfit was "too casual in active wear." I have a video showing him letting in 10-15 other guests dressed casually, as well as a video and photos of my outfit. I asked to speak with a manager, but the guard refused and claimed he was "management of security" and had the right to deny me entry. Another staff member also came out and offered no assistance. I was left standing there, embarrassed, with no resolution offered. Other guests dressed more casually were allowed in, making this treatment feel discriminatory, likely related to my size. Chalet Chicago handled this completely unprofessionally and needs to ensure all guests are treated fairly and respectfully. read more

We both had Chalet Smashburgers, which were good. BUT my complaint is with the bill for our meals. They added a 5% Service Charge AND a 20% Gratuity for a party of two. It has been common practice for restaurants to add a gratuity for parties of 6 or more, but it has become more common with small parties too. Yes, I should have looked more carefully at the bull, but THE SERVER SHOULD HAVE POINTED OUT THE ADDITIONAL CHARGES. I've had that courtesy done several times at other restaurants. Without looking or being told of added charges, we added tips and ended up paying more than 40% in payments over the base charge for the food. We were angry after realizing what had been done. If you go to Chalet, and I cannot recommend it now, BE CAREFUL with the charges. read more

Love Island Watch party 7/1/25. Pt. 1: My friend and I found this bar on TikTok and saw they were taking part in hosting the current season of love Island and doing watch parties. My friend and I made the drive out there last night and the experience was fun because of the show and other viewers but staff definitely ruined the overall first impression and experience of this entire place. First and last time coming here. Would not advise coming here for future watch parties due to miscommunication and rude staff. This will be a lengthy review, but I will try to sum it up as best as I can. My friend had called this restaurant earlier in the day in regards to the love Island watch party last night that they were hosting. She spoke with somebody and was told there were no more reservations available for the rest of the night and we would just have to walk in. My friend and I did that, arrived around 6:45 PM, and when we got there the place was pretty empty downstairs with only a few tables sat. There was only one host at the front, Holly, who was wearing an orange romper, helping guests. There was a couple who was in front of my friend and I and she was explaining a lengthy description of their watch party process for the night. My friend and I went to speak with her to her the same information and she explained that their upstairs was primarily where the watch party would be with the TVs there. She stated there were no more tables available at this time, no reservations, and that a waitlist was our best bet. My friend and I did that. I asked at this time for clarification about sitting downstairs at the bar, since there were TVs there too, and if we could grab a drink and stand only to watch the show. She explained that they did not want many people standing so they were not allowing this on the bottom floor specifically. We then asked if there was anything open on the main floor, with the bar while we wait for something to open up, she stated the upstairs area would be primarily the only area showing Love Island and only if there was " overflow of tables from upstairs," would the main floor put the show on the monitors, despite having TV monitors on already. She stated that they are going to be full for the night due to amount of reservations and are no longer taking walk-ins so waitlist was best option due to the demand. I went to the bathroom while my friend called other places for other wait times. When I got back my friend was sitting at the bar with an open seat for me. I asked how that happened and my friend stated the couple that came before us had a reservation, sat at the bar, then decided to leave so gave the table to my friend. I sat down and my friend went to notify the host. I saw my friend walk over to the host. Mind you, at this time it was about 7 PM, there was still not many people there, there was only 1 host, and my friend stated she spoke to the host, explained the situation, and that we still wanted to be on the waitlist in case they were only showing the show upstairs. My friend stated the host asked for her name that was for the waitlist, my friend gave it to her, and then saw the host pull up the information on her tablet before giving the "okay" of us sitting in this area. We then started to order drinks and food while waiting. While we were waiting, my friend and I were talking to other customers next to us and one of the Love Island previous episodes was playing downstairs. Around 7:20 PM, when our food came out, the host came up to my friend and I, stood in the middle, and said verbatim with a rude tone, "So you guys snuck into here, but are still on the waitlist, that's bogus as hell." My friend and I were genuinely confused and looked at each other dumfounded. I immediately spoke up and said that my friend had spoke to her. My friend stated she just spoke to her, went up to her about the couple giving their seats, gave her name, saw the information displayed on the tablet, and was given the "okay" by her, the only host there. She also reiterated that it wasn't that long ago and if she was told it was a problem at that time, we would have not sat down and ordered food. Again STILL not busy, the host made a face and said, "You spoke to me? I don't remember." We were in disbelief. She then explained we couldn't do that because there were other reservations. I spoke and said I understood but we were under the assumption that it was okay, per the conversation that was had not too long ago from my friend and her, and that's why we're still here. We saw the TVs on playing love island so we asked if we could just stay at the bar to watch the show and no longer needed to be on the waitlist. She explained the same information from earlier but was continuing to talk in circles. I told her I was aware of the same information she already shared and asked if at 8 PM, when the show comes on, would they continue playing the show on the main floor, because then we would stay. Excited to try Chalet because I had heard good things about it. I arrived at the restaurant at about 12:30 PM on a Sunday. I waited at least 5-10 minutes to be seated. Once seated it took the waitress, Morgan another 10-15 minutes to approach us and bring water. Immediately I knew that this restaurant lacked adequate customer service. The music was a vibe playing old to new school R&B. Finally we were able to put in our drink/food order. The first drink we both ordered was the Peach Trail, this drink I wouldn't recommend if you want more of a southern sweet taste. I tasted no liquor, thus I wasn't satisfied haha. It also was very bland, so I wouldn't recommend. My second drink was a Mezcal Margarita. This was very good. I was able to taste the smokiness of the Mezcal, but also taste the flavors of the Margarita. I order the All American Breakfast and my friend ordered the Sundays Scaries Scramble we both ordered a side of French Toast. After waiting 30 minutes for our food the French Toast arrived which was before the entrée. The food had some flavor but seemed to be sitting out a little before being brought to our table. Trabian, the manager was able to quickly rectify all of our issues and make this dining experience a satisfactory one. I'm rating this restaurant a 4 out of 5. I know that this location can offer more, it was just a bad day for them. The pricing of the food was great. You get a good amount of food for what you are paying. My friends and I felt like we found a hidden gem! Nobody had heard of this place before but it is so cute! We came here for Sunday brunch and loved it- the menu does have limited options but we actually liked that so it made it easier to pick. Most of us got the Sunday Scaries (clever name!) , one got the nutella pancakes and the other got All American. So let's talk about how you get 2 free mimosas to start with on Sunday. I say Sunday because I am here on a Sunday lol. It's actually Saturday and Sundays. The blueberry French toast was a 0/10.. not only was it burnt but it tasted like medicine. They were very friendly with allowing me to return and sub the item for something else. Went for Happy Hour on a Friday at 5:30pm. The line was long, which was expected. However, the poor crowd management and customer service were not. The restaurant allows a 1-hr limit on tables during happy hour, which would be fine if it hadn't taken our food and drinks 33 minutes to arrive. That was not expected because the happy hour menu is minimal, so we ordered from the regular menu as well, which wasn't much better. The food was blah - the shrimp tasted frozen, the shots were weak, the Alfredo bread was not done at the bottom and soggy, the chicken wings (bone-in) were good, the fries (with cheese, and the truffle) were good. The first beautiful weekend in Chicago and I had the chance to check out this ski resort inspired restaurant and bar in the heart of river north! The vibes, service, food, and drinks were all top notch. We started out with our fav bar food apps and were so pleased. The Mac and cheese was AMAZING! The creaminess of the cheese perfectly balanced the crunchy breadcrumbs on top. The VEGAN aioli was the bomb.com with the Cauliflower Florets For entrees, we for the vegan ash burger and the italiano flatbread with no meat. The staff was so friendly and accommodating and easily were able to adjust the menu to meet our dietary needs. The burger came with a huge side of curly fries that were freshly fried and so crispy! Even though we barely had room for dessert, our server recommended the banana foster dessert and boy am I glad we got it!! Okay hear me out- I usually don't go for the desserts with fruit in them, but this blew me away!! The caramel, cake, banana, ice cream combo was unbeatable. Truly couldn't stop eating it. I will say though that I ordered a Manhattan and it came out with a small piece of of herb or green leaf floating in the drink that was too small to be intentional. Terrible service. We went for happy hour on a Friday, and had looked at their happy hour menu ahead of time on their website. We noticed we were getting charged for full price on the burger, even though the website said it was on the happy hour, and the waitress said "oh yeah that changed as of yesterday," and that the manager will not provide the discount (the menus that you scan on the table even had the discount listed). Just completely wrong. Why would you advertise foods on happy hour, then not provide the promised prices, and not even tell the tables ahead of time that the burger we clearly ordered from the happy hour menu was going to be full price? Seems like they're trying to drive away customers. I also will mention the service was soooo slow and it took forever for our waitress to even get our order.
