Salmon and Shrimp with Asparagus
Phil P.

I was here years ago and the place is still serving great food. The service was very good albeit a slow night. Got to park right in front. Great neighborhood, always busy. The inside is nice as well. Not a lot of room, meaning jg it would fill quickly if busy. Overall good restaurant.....worth it

The AMAZING greens , SLAMMIN katfish & TASTY MAC & Cheese
Antwan W.

The food was delicious and the place was really nicely decorated. We called ahead an hour or so before they were closing and they allowed us to come. I will give them a little grace because of that . I love seeing that so many young black men are employed there . Because it was the end of the night they were out of so many things....which was a little disappointing . I would absolutely suggest the young men getting uniforms and looking a bit more put together to match the ambiance of your place . We saw random t-shirts and SLIDES. The food was SLAMMIN (you should be proud . The fish was flavorful crispy & hot , the greens were sooooooo GOOD. My friends enjoyed their lamb chops too . OH!!!! And the music has us JAMMIN!!! The last critique was the take out situation . We had food we wanted to take home and was initially told they had no "to-go containers" which I gave an audible gasp and I said ARE YOU FOR REAL??!! Then he said they had little mini ones . So we were forced to stuff our leftovers in this mini sided containers (unacceptable) I then asked for a bag and was disappointed again when we were give these small handle-less paper lunch bags . Overall I would actually recommend this place because the food was a 10 out of 10 and the gentlemen were nice & kind . Some logistical things need it be ironed out that can be fixed (staff appearance , food supply , to-go containers) YAW go check them out & SUPPORT this amazing black woman & her staff.

Catfish sliders

This place is where you want to go if you want to immediately go into a food coma afterwards!! We're no strangers to all of the awesome businesses on Chicago Ave, and this place didn't disappoint! My husband chose this restaurant for date night because he wanted to compare the fish & grits with the ones he's had in the past as a born & raised southern boy. It was pretty quiet here on Saturday evening upon arrival, but we were seated quickly which is always a plus especially close to a holiday weekend. Service was prompt and friendly, we already had our orders planned out ahead of time, so we were ready to go as soon as we got there! Unfortunately, the fried salmon jerk pasta that I wanted wasn't available, but I had a backup just in case. What we ordered: fried catfish sliders, fish & grits, salmon+ shrimp, side of greens, and sweet tea (note: this is a BYOB establishment, so no cocktails or alcohol offered!) The catfish sliders were on our table probably less than 3 minutes from ordering them. As someone who has never tried catfish before and is really picky about fish in general, these sliders were DELISH. The breading and the way that they fried them made me wish I ordered the fried chicken instead of the salmon. The breading was ultra crispy without being too greasy while maintaining the moisture of the fish inside (also, no old oil taste here!) Our entrees came out soon after. Both were fresh+hot and straight out the kitchen. Portions were appropriate to the price, and everything was cooked perfectly. I kept stealing forkfuls of my husband's grits because they were that good. You could definitely see the butter pooling beneath them, but they weren't overly salty, so it was the perfect balance of richness and flavor. I'd say we were in and out with our leftovers boxed and check taken care of in less than 40 minutes (we're not the type of diners who like to sit around for hours)! Empty dishes were cleared quickly which was nice given the tables are quite small. Extra napkins were provided which was much appreciated because I personally always need them haha. As we were wrapping up, I heard a person at the table next to us exclaim that this was the best food they'd ever had, so that was something nice to remember the night by :) I think the only change I'd love to see would be different sauces accompanying the dishes! The sauce for the catfish sliders, grits, and salmon seemed to be the same. While it was a great sauce, I think that having a couple of different ones would really give more dimension to the awesome menu that they have here!

Sweet Potatoes Mixed Greens Glazed Chicken (Appetizer)

I followed the smell of home cooking and found this gem. The space is chic but small -- definitely consider reservations. My plate: greens, sweet potatoes, glazed wings, and a Soule Punch (non-alcoholic, but full of flavor). Everything was seasoned with love, comforting, and delicious. Great for date nights or small groups, and even better that it's proudly Black-owned. Left happy, full, and already planning to bring friends back for round two.

Fried Catfish with mash and Cream Corn

I've been wanting to try Soule to Soule for a while and it exceeded our expectations. The jerk shrimps were a perfect app to start - good blend of spice and shrimp cooked to perfection, then we tried honey drizzled chicken which was crispy and tender and fried catfish, the crust was super crisp and not oily at all! Selection of sides was fantastic - mash potato and cream corn were my absolute winners. The restaurant is cozy and quite intimate set up, the service was good and staff took good care of us. Thank you for hosting us!

I went today (9/6/25) for my birthday and had a great experience. The place was very clean and the food was amazing. Since our food was delayed, they kindly brought us free appetizers, which was a thoughtful touch. The staff was very nice and caring, and they even surprised me with free pudding for my celebration. I truly appreciated the service and will definitely be coming back!

Friendly staff, great service, and ambiance was vibing with 90s R&B, made the food absolutely tasty. BYOB made this place fabulously budget friendly. Will return for chicken wings.

Fried catfish dinner

This place has a fine dining room feel to it. The colors are rich and the lights are dim. Our waiter was attentive and moved effortlessly through the tables. The food was really good. We started with fried green tomatoes. They were crispy and full of flavor. Our main courses were fried chicken and fried catfish dinners. Both were fried very well and were crispy with good flavor. We choose the greens, Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes for our sides. All three were tasty. The greens have a nice savory heat to them. The Mac and cheese could have a bit more cheese for my desired taste. Let's not forget the Arnold Palmer! This mixture was balanced well. It was refreshing and had just the right amount of sweet to it.

Great food, awesome service, music was awesome. Decor and just the Ambiance was on point. Definitely recommend

Fried green tomatoes were really good and fresh
Lauren H.

The food is delicious and well prepared. I take my hat off to the chef. The prices are a little high for the portions. Catfish portion was small and cooked too hard. Salmon pasta was really good with a large piece of salmon and fresh shrimp. Fried green tomatoes were some of the best I've ever had. This restaurant has so much potential I really hate to only give them 3 stars, but the service is terrible. I went with my bf on a Saturday night. There's only metered street parking so plan extra time to find a spot. We had a reservation and arrived a few minutes early. No priority is given to reservations we were stuck waiting behind everybody else. The space is really small with no lobby or wait area and no hostess so it was a chaotic mess. Uber eats person waiting for an order, large party waiting to be seated for a birthday, plus the walk in patrons. The hostess is the waitress is the busboy is the bartender. One person doing 4 jobs for a full restaurant on a Saturday night is absolutely terrible. Long waits for everything even water. You better order everything at once cuz she may not return for 20mins while she waits on every other table. She was doing her best but please hire a couple more employees so the level of service matches the amazing food and decor. The bar area wasn't utilized at all. Nobody seated there and no bartender and no tv. It takes up half of a wall in a small space it needs to be used for something. All bar beverages were pre made or bottled cocktails or wine sold for inflated prices.

Catfish, sweet potatoes and collard greens.

The restaurant commands a sense of scale and elegance that immediately impresses. The interior is impeccably designed and spotlessly clean, featuring sophisticated private seating areas, beautifully arranged tables, and an extraordinary collection of fine wines lining the walls. The hospitality was top-tier from the moment I arrived attentive, polished, and effortlessly gracious. To start, I ordered the "Fire and Smoke" cocktail, which arrived artfully crafted, perfectly balanced, and thoroughly sensational. For my main course, I selected one of my absolute favorites: the Spanish Octopus. When the dish was served, the aroma alone was divine, and the execution proved to be an absolute culinary triumph tender, exquisitely seasoned, and full of rich, sophisticated flavor. Between the immaculate environment, vibrant atmosphere, superb libations, and flawless service, The Purple Pig earns full marks from me. A quintessential destination I shall most certainly be returning

It took her a while to acknowledge me standing there, and when she finally asked how she could help, I mentioned I had a reservation and began giving my name. She cut me off with, 'Please wait, I'm very busy.' After another five minutes, she finally took my name and asked my family and me to step fully outside, saying someone would come get us. We were finally seated fifteen minutes later--only after watching another party of three walk in without a reservation and get seated immediately. The appetizers and entrees were good, and our waiter was attentive, even apologizing for the rough start at the host stand. Things seemed to be turning around until we tried to order dessert. Despite being more than forty minutes from closing, our waiter returned to tell us, 'The chef refuses to make any more desserts.' This was that rare restaurant visit where the food itself was solid, but we won't be back. The service made it abundantly clear that our presence was an inconvenience.

You can also order singular deviled eggs, chorizo wrapped dates, and sliders which I think is such a great option and something I don't see many places doing. There is a large amount of space inside the restaurant and outside on their patio. The decor is fun and interesting and our server (despite bartending at the same time) was so great the entire night. The atmosphere was fantastic, our server struck the perfect balance between attentive and giving us space, and both cocktails I tried were creative and delicious. The truffle fries were pretty mediocre, but even that wouldn't have stopped me from giving Arbella five stars. What did? Discovering afterward that a 5% "service charge" had been added to the bill. I really dislike this growing practice of restaurants and bars adding percentage-based fees rather than simply pricing their menu accordingly, and it was enough to cost an otherwise excellent experience two stars. Ambiance: 5/5 Arbella absolutely nails the atmosphere. I came here on a date, and it was a great choice for that. The music was good, the lighting and decor created a really intimate vibe, and our booth was comfortable enough that we could settle in and actually enjoy the evening. There was energy in the room without it being so loud or overwhelming that we couldn't have a conversation. Even the menu design and presentation fit the experience. If you're looking for somewhere that feels elevated, interesting, and still comfortable for a date, Arbella definitely checks those boxes. Service: 5/5 Our server was fantastic. This was one of those rare occasions where someone found exactly the right balance between being attentive and not constantly interrupting our date. We never felt forgotten about, but we also had plenty of space to enjoy ourselves and talk. I especially appreciated the recommendations. Whenever we had a question or wanted guidance on what to order, our server was knowledgeable and genuinely helpful rather than simply pushing something on the menu. Excellent service from beginning to end. Drinks & Food: 4/5 The cocktails were easily the highlight. I tried the First You Take The Graham and the Trankilo Melon, and both were really good while also being different enough from what I would normally order to make the experience more memorable. This is exactly what I want from a cocktail bar: drinks that make me curious enough to try something new and then actually deliver. The truffle fries, however, were mid at best. They weren't terrible, but compared with how impressive everything else felt, they were forgettable. I'd absolutely come back for the cocktails, but I'd choose something different to eat next time. About That 5% Service Charge... This is unfortunately where Arbella lost me, and ultimately why I cannot give the experience five stars. I didn't notice until reviewing my bill afterward that a 5% service charge had been added. I strongly dislike this increasingly common practice of restaurants and bars adding percentage-based fees to the bill. If operating costs have increased, I would much rather an establishment incorporate those costs transparently into its menu prices so I know what I'm agreeing to pay when I order. Calling it a "service charge" also creates unnecessary confusion, particularly when customers are still expected to decide what to tip their server. At a cocktail-focused establishment, where you may be ordering multiple drinks throughout an evening rather than paying attention to every line of the check, I think fees like this need to be extremely clear and prominent before ordering, not something a customer discovers afterward. For me, it feels like an extra charge for simply using the establishment in exactly the way it was intended to be used. Overall: 4/5 The frustrating part is that without the service charge, this probably would have been a five-star review. Arbella gave us a genuinely great date night: beautiful atmosphere, excellent service, creative cocktails, and a space I otherwise would have happily recommended and returned to. Instead, that 5% fee left a sour final impression on what had been an excellent evening. It may seem small, but transparency around pricing matters to me. Arbella did so much right that I want to come back, but the service charge is significant enough that I would think twice before doing so.
