It saddens me to write this because I like supporting local businesses and I actually have had a few good experiences here but for the last times I've been coming the experience has been beyond disappointing. I came here today the entire kitchen was a a mess and all 5 employees looked like they didn't know what they were doing which turned out to be true. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and my boyfriend the waffles at 10:26, I received the bagel 20 minutes later but the waffles did not come out until 11am which is 40 minutes after we ordered. When we asked how the food was going we got no response just the girl in the front looking back and walking away. When we did receive our food there was practically no cream cheese on my bagel which was even more annoying considering how long we waited. Their lack of organization also turned away a number of people which would be concerning to me as an owner. I have been there when the owner is there and things seem to go smoothly. Yummy in the Tummy Chakra I imagined (with a name like "Chakra Cafe") that it would be another boring, healthy vegetarian joint with green juice, but it turns out that this is a health-conscious, breakfast-lunch cafe that the average eater should not be intimidated by. They have bagels, sandwiches, omelettes, Turkish desserts. I was pleasantly surprised that my omelette was folded, French-style. Plus, I like my omelettes oozing with cheese, and the 3 Cheese omelette certainly satisfied my queso craving. The ecclectic ambiance with their repurposed wood theme is cute and the seats are comfy. Pop in just to look at starry-night-meets-manhattan-skyline wall art. My biggest complaint is the agitating techno music from a single soundbar at the condiment station, if they can keep the music low or gentle, this a good place to catch up with a friend or get some writing done. Listen. I almost never write reviews, and I do my very best to support local businesses. But the food has consistently disappointed every time I've tried it. My wife and I got salads once, and they are priced they way salads get priced these days, but were average at best. Another time, I was excited to see the bagel with pesto option because it is one of my favorites and no one ever puts it on their menu. It cost $7 and the pesto was just not good. But what finally made me feel compelled to log on and review was the smoothie that I just bought. Smoothies are are $10. Ten! What I received was basically crushed ice that was entirely melted with vague hints of what might have been fruit at one time. Not even the banana in the smoothie added thickness. I would have been disappointed if the smoothie was normally priced; but to charge $10 for what amounted watered down juice is particularly egregious. It's a cute casual place, super busy on a Saturday for brunch. The service was good enough given how hectic it was inside, but the food was only ok. We had the french toast with berries, avocado toast, and the peanut butter smoothie. None of it was much to write home about. The avocado toast felt like someone just sliced an avocado and put it on bread... Something I could do better at home. The french toast was pretty good but nothing special. Really love this local spot, they're literally around the corner from us and it's 1 of the few places that do bagels. We used to go every weekend to pick up iced coffee and cream cheese bagels but I have to say the amount of cream cheese they put on is a major problem. I just opened mine and I wouldn't say there's more than a spoonfull on the whole thing. I don't want to badmouth the place because they are run by lovely people but I feel like I have to leave this review in the hopes that they improve this process. Let me start by saying that The bagels at Chakra are very good. Unfortunately, it takes forever to get your order. I ordered the chakra bagel and ocean bagel after 30mins of waiting went to the desk to ask where my order was. After a few more minutes of waiting we got the wrong order. It looked like they took half an avocado and smashed it on the bread (making the bread even thinner). We got a three cheese omlette but subbed mushrooms with one of the cheeses- they did give us mushrooms but forgot to give two cheeses. Decided to try this new neighborhood spot out with a friend, the decor and space is nice and cozy. the place was not busy and no one else was ordering at the time. We ordered the matcha latte and avocado toast with everything except the meat. I ordered a multi grain bagel with I can't even remember what was in it, but it has an overwhelming amount cream cheese. The matcha latte was all milk and tasted horrible, we asked to add more matcha powder however it still tasted like it was just milk so we ended up tossing out the entire drink. The avocado toast ended up coming out with nothing but avocado on it, missing the rest of the ingredients, tomato etc, and instead of a multi grain bagel the server/cashier gave me a whole wheat bagel. At least try and get the order semi-correct when you are just starting off as a new cafe. Sunnyside has seen a lot of businesses like this open and close within a few years. Was craving French toast and found this place on Yelp. Came in around 1pm on a Wednesday with a friend. We grabbed a seat outside, I had the French toast with fruit and Nutella, so good!!!! The texture of the French toast was perfect, and the fruit was fresh so it was really good. My friend ordered the avocado toast, it came with a side salad, that was really good as well. In person you can communicate and adjust your order online you can't. However, they should call and inform that they do not have something and offer replacement but they do not do this. Last time my salad was missing two ingredients. They often run out off chicken. How can you run out of basics? They need better stock on their supplies. read more
