Made reservations for mother's day to take my parents for their first time. They never had high tea before so I thought it would be a treat for the both of them since we will be celebrating Mother's day. BAD IDEA! Upon entering, it was so warm and stuffy in the restaurant. We had reservations at 4:30pm for 4 people. There were tables filled with dirty dishes. I guess they were busy and understaff that day but it is no excuse. We got sat down as they were cleaning the table. No one said anything to us. No one gave us a menu or told us what was happening. We sat down waiting looking around for around 15 minutes. I was about to get up and leave at this point. I look at the thermometer and it was 79 degrees inside! Finally a lady came by and gave us the 4 different teas that they had for that day. I'm guessing we don't need to choose and we get all the flavors. Then they came and set up the table with utensils. We all chose to start with the tomato soup. When we received the soup, it was bland and cold. It looked like they literally poured it from a canned. It looked disgusting. Scones were warm but it was dry and too crunchy in my taste. Had to put some of the cream and jam to make it taste better. Sandwiches pieces were uneven. Some pieces were bigger than the other. I could make better sandwiches at home. Don't even want to talk about the dessert portion. It was just macarons and a butter cookie with a half strawberry on top. Really looks ugly and cheap and like it came from the supermarket. Overall, it was not worth the $65 per person. They raise up the price for the holiday and give you some cheap chocolates. I will not be returning to this location. read more

Was here Thursday celebrating my cousin and I's January birthdays. We had such a lovely experience! We definitely plan to return. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Service was perfect. 2 words.. HOT MESS Absolutely no service unless you demand it. I was seconds away from walking out after waiting 40 minutes for service when a staff member came to ask us what's wrong. He convinced us to stay and offered to serve us immediately. For $200 for three people I would expect a certain amount of service and diligence. I made the reservation months in advance to ensure Mother's Day went smoothly but of course it did not. The soup was cold and the sandwiches were okay but certainly not worth the bother. The staff members that did serve us were very polite and doing the best they could with the situation. Overall this place is severely lacking in operationally and in management. We visited Chado Tea room today for afternoon tea. We chose to sit inside ,it is a well lit venue with an option of outdoor seating . Loved the painting of Miranda from the Tempest on the walls What made our experience so pleasant was the friendly accommodating service by Sam who looked after us , even took pictures for us , brought us honey and warmed milk for tea. The finger sandwiches were delicious especially the salmon . It's adorable that they also cater to children with mini peanut butter jelly sandwiches and ham and cheese sandwiches . The abundant scone was warm and came with strawberry jam and clotted cream. The selection of teas was vast and delicious, and the individual tea pots were very novel. My friend brought me here as a little birthday treat and I've always wanted to try afternoon tea. We had a noon reservation. The inside was busy but there is an outside seating area and the server let us pick any seat. It was also decorated. We chose the Celebration Afternoon Tea Service set. It was $36.95/per person. The difference between this set and the cheaper set is the glass of wine inspired ice tea, tea infused chocolates, and your choice between a soup of salad. You also get to choose what kind of tea you want for your pot of tea. The glass of wine and tea infused chocolates came out first. It was 3 chocolates per person. The tea was okay. Tasted like a normal tea and came out in a champagne glass. For the chocolates, there wasn't any kind of explanation of what each were. One was cherry flavored and another was a truffle though. It was paired with a strawberry cut in half and it was super fresh. We chose the soup and it was a cream of tomato soup. It was basic but good. It came with a small side of bread. The three tier rack came with 4 half sandwiches, scones with cream and jam, and a macaron and butter cookie. My ranking of the sandwiches would be the limerick (thinly sliced English cucumbers, cream cheese, green onions), smoked salmon, souchong chicken, and punjab (smoked tea marinated eggs, mayonnaise). The scones were nice and warm. Paired really well with the cream and jam. The macaron were two different flavors but again, no explanation. I didn't really care for the butter cookie. I chose the lychee tea and it was quite fruity. Definitely a nice place for any kind of celebration. I surprisingly got full even though everything looked small. The staff was definitely busy and forgot to bring us our pots of tea. Overall, it was a cute and fun experience. read more

A reservation was made well in advance for this Sunday to celebrate a family member's birthday. Two days prior, a grotesquely unapologetic voice message was left, informing us that our reservation was going to be canceled. The excuse? They had allegedly overbooked for that day as two large parties will be in attendance. I rarely write reviews, but after our visit in October to celebrate my sister's birthday, I felt it was important to share our experience--especially because food allergies are a serious health concern in our family. My mom and kids were with me and we had hoped this to be a special outing to celebrate. When we ordered, we were very explicit that one of my children has a nut allergy. Because she was at the table, we asked that both children's afternoon tea sets substitute the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, just to avoid any mix-ups. We were told this would not be a problem. Unfortunately, when the food arrived, my younger child didn't finish all of her sandwiches, and my older daughter ate what she assumed was her sister's "Nutella" sandwich from the plate. Within a bite, she realized it was actually peanut butter. We immediately brought this to our waiter's attention. Instead of acknowledging the concern, he insisted repeatedly that it was not peanut butter. He even brought out a container of Nutella as proof, but the sandwich clearly smelled like peanut butter, and my older daughter confirmed it tasted nothing like Nutella. Shockingly, at one point the waiter both smelled--and then tasted--the piece of sandwich my daughter had already eaten from in order to prove it wasn't peanut butter. While I understand that cross-contamination is always a possibility, the most unsettling part was not the initial mistake, but the fact that we had to argue with the waiter about something that could have had serious consequences. He remained polite, but being repeatedly dismissed in an allergy-related situation was disheartening and stressful. Beyond the safety issue, the sandwiches themselves were very small and the bread was rubbery, which added to the overall disappointment. We had hoped for a special birthday tea, but the experience left us feeling uneasy and unwilling to return--especially for anyone in our family with dietary needs or allergies. read more

Absolutely horrible experience! Showed up and they could not find my reservation, when they finally found me, I was told to seat myself outside. It took another 15 to 20 minutes to get the menu another 30 to have our order taken and then our food never showed up. We got tea that was cold and when I finally went inside after being there for an hour and a half I offered to just pay for our tea because we had been there for so long with no service and no food. we got no apologies and no excuses we were just told we don't have to pay for our tea and we can leave. This place is popular for that and other girly events like a bridal shower. Many different themed tea services here like Birthday, Mom & Daughter and Barbie starting up to $65 per person. I think they start at $30. Unfortunately the Halloween-themed one was disappointing. The soup was not good and the cookie and cupcake looked like they came from Ralph's. The scones were all dry and not fresh while the sandwiches are mostly miss. The salmon is too salty, but I did like the tuna cranberry. The macarons were average, too. The chocolates dish was great and the chocolate swirled outline on the sweets dish a nice touch. Some of the more expensive tea services ($65) come with a "special gift" which turns out to be a cute cat mug with cover. Mine said, "If you love someone, let them sleep". Amen! The colorful whimsical teapots were charming and it was fun to check out the variety at neighboring tables. The street patio is very welcoming and quiet. Some reviewers said it gets loud inside, definitely true. Unfortunately we would not come back. Great service and great food! I worked at Teavana for years and it is really hard to go have enjoyable tea experiences. The tea was delicious and brewed perfectly. I had a white tea which can burn easily. It was smooth and light. Everything you would want in a white tea. We did the Christmas Special Menu. I am 6 months pregnant and they were very accommodating to menu changes of food I cannot eat. The egg salad sandwich was my favorite! Sam gave us great service and the ambiance is warm and welcoming. It's a beautiful spot to catch up with friends and enjoy some lovely tea. The tea was phenomenal- I had the rooibos bourbon tea, and my friend had the Hawaiian inspired tea. Both were amazing! I decided to have my bridal tea at Chado Tea Room and I didn't regret it one bit! The staff went above and beyond with decorating our table, setting up a welcome sign, and providing a beautiful smaller table for gifts! I didn't even know that they would do all of this for me so it was such a pleasant surprise. The ambiance was perfect, and they had a lot of beautiful Christmas decorations set up to add to the cozy and festive vibes. We were provided with plenty of different tea options throughout the entire event. My favorites were the black/jasmine tea, raspberry champagne, and butterscotch. Our server, Sam, was so incredibly kind and accommodating too! The tea is amazing, scones are yummy. I would stick with the tea sandwiches. The paninis were not horrible just eehh. They are made with regular white bread, not the usual ciabatta or focaccia so they do get soggy fast. Service was good. The tea selection is excellent with fun holiday flavors.
