This place took over the previous Thai Restaurant (that was actually the name). I tried two items so far. Spicy Basil Leaves with Ground Beef and Fried Egg had great flavor and heat (for medium spicy) but ground beef was tough. I don't know how that's even possible, but I ended up spitting out about 20% of the meat because they were very tough and chewy. Some pieces didn't even look like ground meat, but more like long strands. If I ever get this again, I might have to go with ground chicken instead of beef. Quite disappointing because this was one of the items listed under Chef Specials. Pad See Ew was very flavorful as well. I ordered this with chicken, which wasn't too tough. I would order this again as my whole family liked this dish. Given the tough ground beef, I really should give this place three stars, but I'm giving it a pass since it's still quite new. This is a great lunch spot; their lunch specials are quite generous in portion and so affordable. For $10.95 each, my buddy and I got a panang curry and red curry special. I'm glad I went with medium spice because his full spice was ultimately too hot for him. Comes with salad and a heart-shaped serving of white rice. I also ordered a papaya salad because I almost always order papaya salad when eating Thai food--ever try making papaya salad? It's hard work and I was quite happy with their large serving of it. Probably the BEST Thai food I've had in OC. My boyfriend and I randomly found this new place and so glad we did. Ambiance - Very clean and well decorated. There's very little to no noise. Service - A+! The servers were very polite and checked in on us every now and then. Food - Their lunch specials run until 3PM, including the weekend. The lunch special includes - simple salad with wontons, rice, a drink and your protein of choice. The portions are sizable. Refills aren't free. You must have the Penang Curry! We enjoyed our food so much that we ordered take out as we were eating. HAHA! Beef with basil was good though I'm more acquainted to having ground beef but nonetheless, delicious. Drinks - Thai tea and coffee Thai tea were refreshing, not overly sweet. I liked it even more because it's served with crushed ice cubes. We dined here last night for the second time in maybe a year. The food seemed even better than I remembered. This is a smallish, cozy family owned and operated restaurant. I give the food a solid 5. The service could have definitely been better, hence the rating. There were two working, both younger looking, perhaps brother & sister? They certainly could have added a third person, especially on a Saturday night. The male was standing behind the cash register 80% of the time. When we walked in, I don't know for certain, however I do not recall hearing a greeting. The female was serving a table and the male was on the phone possibly taking a food order? It appeared they do a good amount of take-out orders. Therefore, we just seated ourselves. Very shortly we received menus. I noticed the male answered the phone, put the caller on hold, then handed the female a couple dishes to serve THEN came over to take our order. He didn't really seemed rushed, just rather a bit detached. No greeting, no asking, how are good....just, are you ready to order? Frankly, I wouldn't have put a caller on hold. We were seated close enough that he could have just said, we'll be right with you. I watched as the female seemed to be the main one to work the room, taking orders, serving and bussing tables. As patrons left, no comments from either one, such as, "thank you for coming." The food came out fairly fast which I appreciated. We had pad Thai & pineapple fried rice with chicken. The flavors were explosive in the mouth. So very yummy. Both dishes came out of kitchen hot! Which I love. You could just tell they came right out of the kitchen immediately after being plattered. We had leftovers enough for approximately 1.5 servings at home. Again, flavors were terrific and had just right amount of wetness. I would certainly recommend this restaurant based on food, generous servings and quick service. If there is an owner or manager reading, I would recommend some training in customer service skills which, if added-just might take the number of patrons each night, to a higher level. Just adding, "thank you for coming in tonight, we look forward to seeing you next time." AND when handing menus to patrons, ask, "have you dined with us before?" If the answer is "yes", it gives your server an opportunity to say, with a genuine big smile, " well, welcome back!" If the answer is no, your server can inquire how did you hear about us? These answers, provided back to owners, can give insight for future marketing. And, if the answer was no, after asking the fore mentioned question, your server can make some recommendations, perhaps mention best sellers making sure to mention starters too to help increase the ticket. Staff was tentative and friendly, menu was easy to read and select from, and the restaurant was easy to find, and the atmosphere was quiet and clean. We ordered the tom kha soup with shrimp - mild, which was really good! It was really creamy from the coconut milk and had a lot of aromatics to it! I saw a lot of fresh herbs in it like kefir leaf, lemon grass, galangal, and cilantro. Really delicious, and not watered down like other restaurants I've been to. It's tucked away in an an assuming plaza, and once you enter, you're welcomed with an intimate environment and beautiful decor. My friend and I had placed a seemingly large order for 2 to-go, to the point where the worker raised his eyebrows and asked if this order was just for 2 haha. We let our hungry eyes get the best of us and ordered Pad Thai with shrimp, Tom Yum Soup with chicken, Egg Rolls, Papaya Salad, and Chicken Satay. We quickly took it home and marveled at the beautiful layout of food we were about to devour. And devour, we did. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, from the crispiness of the egg rolls, to the tenderness of the Chicken Satay, the nuttiness from peanut sauce that accompanied the Satay, the perfect balance of the sweet and sourness from the Pad Thai, and the light but flavor-packed Tom Yum soup, and the freshness of the Papaya Salad...we enjoyed this meal through and through. We intended for there to be leftovers, but that did not go as planned. The rice itself has a noticeable curry flavor that I have not tasted in this rice before. The cashews, raisins, eggs, and shrimp were balanced wonderfully. This was my favorite dish. Papaya Salad: This dish was yummy as well. We ordered it medium spicy, which in retrospect was a mistake (it was so spicy!). Panang Curry: The rich color of the curry says enough. The food and service were top notch. We ordered the Thai Basil wings, Pad See Ew, and Chicken curry. All was soooo good. For the wings and curry, you are able to choose level of spicy- mild, med or hot. We chose mild for both and so glad we did because it was a tad spicy for me. I don't love spicy foods while my daughter wants to clear her sinus and sweat spice! Lol!!! The wings were crunchy and flavorful and had basil chips on top. The pad see ew has your choice of meat, we added beef to ours. And same with the curry, you can choose from chicken, beef or pork and we chose chicken. The flavors of all the dishes were so good.
