I somehow got to Donna's phone line, the practice manager at CHA Eye Clinic, and she's been AMAZING.

I am so incredibly frustrated with this office. They claimed that they didn't receive a referral…read moreprior to my visit although my doctor's office claimed they did. They claimed they didn't receive payment from my insurance although my insurance claimed they did. I can't get ahold of anyone to help straighten out these errors, and when I do happen to speak with someone after spending hours calling, they aren't helpful (e.g., tell me to wait for a message through the online portal that never comes). The service is terrible here. AVOID at all costs!

The doctor we see is very good and deserves 4-5 stars. But the office staff and office operations…read moreare abysmal. First, even with three people in office staff area, you call and call and call, and most of the time NOBODY picks up..you are told you are number 2 in call list..and then within minutes told to call another time. One day I called 8 times, each time with an endless hold and hangup. Secondly, if you have prescriptions such as eyedrops and want them renewed or sent to Mail Order or Pharmacy, GOOD LUCK! Staff seems incapable of sending a correct prescription. In one case it took us a month and 3 attempts with different faxes to mail order to try and fix it, finally they got qty correct but no refills instead of 90 day normal 3 refills, meaning having to suffer thru it again!i The office appears to be heavily engaged in processing as many patients as possible for exams and tests but terrible at support or answering phone! I mean abysmal!

It is a privilege to write about Dr. Sang and her team. Not only is Dr. Sang an elite and amazing…read moredoctor, but she shows compassion and really cares. Sometimes, that makes you feel better and is more needed than the treatments! At a time when I feared losing my vision due to macular degeneration, she was reassuring and supportive , and always answers my never ending list of questions, and with patience. Another side of Dr. Sang that I recently learned about is her mentorship. There are a group of young college grads working there who are taking a gap year and preparing to get into medical school. She is so giving and proud of how many of these interns have gone on to great careers. Each time you go for an appointment, it's a "major production." There are so many steps in the process and I have come to understand why it takes so long -- they take no shortcuts! There is a huge staff that supports Dr. Sang and each one has a specialty, from the people who answer the phone and make appts. to the people who do complicated eye scans. I don't envy the appt. people as everyone seems to want a different time -- including me -- and it's hard to make everyone happy, although they try. I guess my only complaint is that I wish I could turn back Dr. Sang's clock about 25 years so that she'd be in practice for another 25+ years. While she is around, I feel incredibly lucky for her to be my doctor!

Dr. Sang saw me for a retinal tear more than 15 yrs ago. She saw me before her next patient,…read moredescribed the diagnosis, and asked if I could stay for a laser procedure at 6:15 PM- after hrs. She is precise, empathic, and I have known her professional for many years and she is a dear and special friend who has mentored hundreds of students who needed experience as scribes, technical knowledge that only she could describe with drawings, and precise explanations. They planned to apply to medical or optometric colleges in the future. She once noted that my optic nerves were probably normal but needed a glaucoma specialist to follow me, so I have seen a glaucoma specialist alternating with her every 6 months and they correspond across the miles with assessment and management notes after each visit. Her Staff includes Monica at the front desk who is helpful and gentle with hearing and vision-impaired patients. It doesn't get better than that. She is delightful! Dr. Delia Sang should get EVERY AWARD for distinction in medical knowledge, empathy, compassion at those difficult moments for patients and their families, wisdom beyond belief and friend to all she meets. I am so lucky. TEN STARS ARE NOT ENOUGH!

Mass Eye and Ear, of all places, doesn't understand accessibility and accommodations for people…read morewith vision and language disabilities. They have a page on their website that says they can provide communication in required formats for people with disabilities, but none of their staff are aware that the law requires this. The webpage saying they provide accessible communication only has a phone number to contact them. It has one e-mail address, but that is for requesting interpreter services, not for general e-mail correspondence from people who need to contact the clinic via text. The website says to use the portal to schedule appointments for patients who are already registered, but the portal is set up so there is no way to request an appointment unless already seen recently by that department. The Patient Relations office has no idea that the ADA exists and told the person to find an abled person to make a voice call for them. The nurses in the departments don't understand what large print is and several of them have provided a legally blind multiply disabled person with handwritten illegible instructions, stating they don't know how where they would type and print instructions to give the person. Their solution was also "can't an abled person just redo it?"
