There's not a bad dish on the menu, but the most superlative were the king kanpachi tostada, which we kept reordering, the scallop with uni, the mushroom carpaccio, and the tuna. Very solid. Never overdone, always fresh, very flavorful, and a great light meal that you can walk away from feeling good. The ceviche is fantastic, with respect to traditional ceviche dishes along with some modern twists. The interior is a bit cramped, but is done with the same respect to elegant modern minimalism that can also be seen in the food served. The passion for great seafood is very present. First ever Yelp review -- don't go I read so many great reviews of this place and it was disappointing from the jump. Upon arrival we were told that more than half the menu was unavailable, along with multiple wines on the wine list. The wine they served us tasted corked, and no effort was made to make up for any of it. We were shown the happy hour menu, asked to order from it, then asked to pay full price. My wife reccommended that I should use an idle Sunday afternoon to check out the Ceviche Project to see if we should go together. Upon entering, I immediately felt like my wife had made a great recommendation, with the space and atmosphere welcoming, clean (as one would hope for ceviche) without feeling sterile. Looking at the menu, there were numerous delicious sounding options, and I decided on a half dozen oysters and the Hawaiian kanpachi tostada with a Spanish wine. The tostada came first, and was delicuous. The combo of the fish, the citrus, the guacamole and the roe were delicious. When the oysters (from BC I think) came, they were fresh and delicious with the sauce enhancing rather than hiding the fresh taste of the ocean. Additionally, both Octavio and Jessie (spelling?) Went there on a whim last night and sat outside under a heat lamp - it's a cute area but relatively quiet due to Covid. We couldn't decide between two types of wine so the owner, Octavio, who was serving us himself, let us try both. We went with a natural red wine that was delicious. Food-wise, we tried the snow crab claws, the scallops on half shell, the shrimp aguachile ceviche and the hawaiian kanpachi tostada. Everything was absolutely delicious and the presentation was beautiful! Especially loved the scallops, which were served with tangerine, cilantro and pomegranate seeds. So flavorful and fresh! Wish we had visited sooner because Octavio was telling us about how fun and crowded this place used to be pre-covid! Overall, this place to me is a solid 3 1/2 stars, it's just one of those trendy hipster places you experience once and that's it. Food is good and fresh 4 stars, but be ready to drop average $16 for one tostada and it will take you 2 tostadas to fill like you actually ate something. Now when it comes to the place itself it needs work, I would give it 2-3 stars, it is tiny so the waiter and people constantly bump into you, also, it is extremely noisy, the music level was way too high and not enjoyable! I left with a headache! Finally, very mediocre but trendy wines (oxidate aka orange wine, organic, blah) so wine list needs improvement. One thing I didn't like at all was the immediate 20% service charge, I'm sorry but let me judge how much to pay for service! I was so excited to come here as this place was on my bucket list of restaurants I have to try. I picked the bar thinking it would be fun to interact with the chef and get a hands on experience. I think he was just focused on his wife and their guest. He didn't even tell us the dishes he was putting down. Literally not one word to us as if we didn't exist! I was very disappointed in this aspect of my experience. Thank goodness for the waiter! He was the saving grace! The waiter was attentive and charming and his service was impeccable which compensated. Food: Hawaiian kanpachi, the octopus ceviche, oyster were all delicious! Loved the habenero oil. Neither of us were a fan of the aguachiles dish. More veggies then fish and a bit bland. I would avoid those 2 dishes and stick with the ceviche on tostadas. Drink: Micheladas was delicious and the Amezetoi wine was the perfect pairing for the menu. The sake cocktail was unremarkable. Overall the company of my friend and meal were nice. Still sad the the owner/chef was so unfriendly and I'm not sure if I'd recommend going back and definitely don't expect anything sitting at the counter. How do you act like that in your own establishment? It was my birthday dinner and that was the biggest disappointment. Each of Ceviche Project's dishes are carefully crafted by one of the most passionate Cevicheros in all of the America's. Attention to detail is therefore found in everything--from the cevichelon, the Kanpachi tostada, aguachilie, and the micheladas. I felt the need to state though, that on our visit, it does not appear the owner or chef was a person of color, and the waiter continually entertained other groups but not us. I can only imagine he was homophobic, but cannot be sure. We only ordered three dishes, and we had to ask three times for the third dish to come out. Asked twice for water and did not get it. The tuna tostada and snow crab where just perfect, fresh and delicious. The place had a great ambiance with tropical music and great orange wine, I had a lot of fun in this neighborhood gem! My wife has hearing problem and we asked the server to turn down the music twice but they didn't listen and still charge mandatory 20% service fee for lunch. I really want to like this place but if they don't respect customers and don't create a comfortable environment for conversation, I will not come back again. read more

My wife and I saw this restaurant on the ktla morning news. We checked the reviews and menu. We knew going there that the bill could possibly give someone a heart attack. Well prepared. We went on a Saturday afternoon for our wedding anniversary. I didn't get the waiters name but the receipt says Alexander G. As busy as he was. He was patient with all the questions I had about the menu. We tried several plates and strongly suggest the scallops in a half shell with Uni and the Striped Sea Bass Ceviche. Truth be told. Prior to this day. I did not like Uni. But I'll order it there over and over again. The food was flavorful, colorful and very well presented. I'm no critic. But those that gave bad reviews need to consider there is more to this food than just what goes into your mouth. We knew prior to arriving that there is an 18% gratuity automatically added to the bill and we still added a little more. If your a penny pincher and there's nothing wrong with that. By all means, do not go to this restaurant. But good times and great food are priceless. As long as there's only one Cevichero. Your going to have to be patient and your going to have to pay for it. We just had a really nice assortment of fresh seafood dishes with Mexican, Peruvian, and Asian flavor influences at this cute little spot. The "Premium Oysters", with yuzu, trout roe and Serrano oil were my GF's favorite dish, while I think the red shrimp aguachile was mine.. or perhaps the snapper ceviche. We also had the scallops, tuna tostada, and crab claws. Everything was well presented and flavorful, and the txakolina was a great recommendation to wash it all down. Will return! read more

Had the most delightful lunch here today! I think we caught it at an unusual slow time (a Sunday mid afternoon) which was great, avoided any service or crowd issues. We ordered just two ceviches which were both excellent. The favorite was the Yellowfin Tuna Tostada--so flavorful! We got the Striped Sea Bass Ceviche which was also quite good, but didn't pack the same punch as the other one. The chef also handed us a little taste of the octopus which was really tasty. The sizes aren't large as other people have mentioned, but we left full just not overly stuffed. Great for a light meal or even perhaps appetizers. The seafood here is absolutely the freshest I have had in LA!! We ordered most everything on the menu, had cocktails, and were so happy. My favorite was definitely the Kanpachi tostada and the Uni Scallop, but all the dishes were excellent, even the chocolate peanut butter dessert morsel. We stopped by last weekend and had a great time just hanging out, chatting with Octavio, and enjoying some of the most delicious fresh fish you can imagine. We went down the menu, from the oysters (with Octavio's homemade mignonette) to the snow crab (with an amazing spicy sauce to dip) and the sea bass ceviche, all meticulously crafted right before our eyes by Octavio himself. He is truly the master of ceviche, right down the deliciously crunchy tortillas he serves with his creations (I am already addicted to those things!) Wine choices are all excellent, and carefully matched with the fish, and include some lovely orange wines you certainly don't see very often.
