This was my second visit to Ceviche Project and I was not disappointed. It was a quick meal with a friend so I only got one photo because we were busy talking. I was a bit shocked that we were the only guests on a busy weekend night but thankfully more showed up before we left. We ordered a couple of Scallops, a Ceviche and two Tostadas. The scallops were okay, nothing to write home about. They were on the small side. The toppings kind of overpowered the scallops so I missed that tender sweetness they are known for. The highlight of the meal was the ceviche. It came bathed in a delicious pineapple based marinade that had the perfect amount of heat. The octopus tostada was delicious but hard to eat. The mound of octopus and veggies was piled so high that we ended up using plain tostadas to spoon on a bite at a time. The kanpachi tostada was just okay, nothing bad but not great. I look forward to returning. Keep in mind that it's pricey but the quality is top notch. read more

My friends and I came to Ceviche project as it's been on my to try list. The place is cute and intimate. The food was excellent, we got the green agua chile, snapper ceviche, toro salmon , and sea bass. It was served with home made tostada. I was really impressed with the flavor and the quality of fish. I was expecting everything to be sour from the citrus typically used in ceviche but they did a beautiful job in creating subtle and delicious flavors. The food looked great as well! If you've tried Holbox, you might get a similar vibe but consider the difference in quantity. Service is friendly and the shop is definitely cute and small enough to make small talk with the waiter and cook. As for food, I'd say it's great but not amazing compared to its price. Aesthetically pleasing and unique combinations are the main draw for me, but I can't help but to think how much better I can get from Holbox with the same/lower price point! I don't regret the scallops with uni, oysters, yellowtail, aguachile, and kanpachi.. it's just that I wouldn't necessarily be thrilled to be back. This was my second time here. It was my birthday and my cousin was treating me. I chose this place due to my great experience the first time (refer to my previous review). I am very sad to say , I was disappointed with lack of flavor. We ordered almost the same stuff as we ordered last time. Except, it was being made by the owner this time. All the items were lacking salt. The flavors were not there at all. The owner was not friendly either . He was dry, and kind of down in mood, minding his own business. Last time's experience was something else. Both food and service were mediocre this time. It was more like ok hurry up , eat and GTHO kind of a feeling. Checked out The Ceviche Project, and honestly, it didn't live up to the hype. It's a one-man operation, so the service is pretty slow. The drinks and food seemed premade, and nothing really stood out, especially considering the price. I had the seafood dish with pomegranate seeds, and the seeds didn't really work for me--biting into them felt awkward and didn't mesh well with the rest of the dish. While it's on a busy street, they have a private parking lot for these businesses, which is nice. It has a small, intimate setting. The tostada can be for one person or easily split into two to share. Bring some friends so you can try several of their dishes. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the scallop with uni- it was so sweet and paired so well with the uni. They have a housemade habanero oil that provides the perfect kick to their oysters. Unfortunately, had a bad experience here with regards to terrible service. Ordered five dishes and only three showed up and about an hour. Asked about the other two, and a half hour later another showed up. The server forgot. Then ask about the fifth dish and a half hour later he came back and said they were out. Had to ask repeatedly for water, refills, and the whole time the waiter just seemed annoyed to even be helping us. The food was very good, but the portions are incredibly small, and the prices are really high so for $140 you leave hungry. On top of that they add automatic 18% gratuity, which I am normally fine with unless the service is absolutely terrible like it was. read more

Just tried to go as a single person for a meal alone for my birthday. I was planning on treating myself to a pretty big, spendy meal. The restaurant was half empty with three tables seated inside, no one outside and no one at the fairly large bar. I was treated pretty badly. Or perhaps I should say, with disdain as a chore to be dealt with. The server was pretty uninterested in seating me and gave me only one option of a specific seat at the bar to sit at. The space was tight and I'm a big guy and it would have put me directly in the path of egress and I offered to sit a bit more out of the way so I wouldn't be a nuisance and was shot down pretty intensely. I'm a huge and effusive supporter of local businesses. I love to sing a places praises and encourage my friends to become patrons so small businesses succeed especially in my very small neighborhood. But when a business makes it clear they'd rather not take my money, I make sure to honor their desire and share my experience with friends. The ceviche project might be fabulous, but I wouldn't know because I was not welcome and that's a shame. What. A. Gem. The location is intimate with limited seating, which is perfect for a grown and sexy date night or girls night out. The interior decor takes me back to tropical green summer days, which was very welcoming when we visited during the cold, wet winter evening. We were instantly greeted by the owner, who generously offered some sake while we waited for our friend. Sake was pretty light so we ordered a bottle to complement our meal. We ordered 6 dishes that we shared. I can honestly say, every single dish was AMAZING and fresh. The Latin influence really shines and accentuates each dish in a pleasantly distinct fashion. Oysters and scallops: each shellfish had a unique sauce that had a slight sweetness and brininess. Sea urchin: this was served incredibly fresh without any sauce. Purists will tell you this is theeee way to eat sea urchin. Octopus and shrimp tostada: tostada had a nice crunch and held up well. The shrimp and octopus chunks were juicy and tasted well with the cucumber pieces. Tai snapper ceviche: chunks of tai swimming in a slightly sweet broth. The chunks of jicama added a nice texture to each bite. Green shrimp aguachiles: these were served with the green citrus sauce for us to pour. Depending on the bitterness of the limes, aguachiles are often a hit or miss but tonight, it was a hit. Sea urchin tostada: not on the menu but the owner saw that I LOVE sea urchin and made this for me. On top of the tostada were puréed avocado, thicc pieces of sea urchin, micro greens, flowers, slices of tangerine or orange, and topped off with gold flakes. Literally, the best way to end this epic meal. The bill is came out to a little under $400, which is on the pricey side but you are truly paying for great service and fresh seafood. This is my favorite restaurant in LA. The food, in particular the green or red aguachile, the scallops on the half shell, the mushroom carpaccio, and my god the kanpachi sashimi are some of my favorite bites in LA. I crave the sauce from kanpachi often, and we do not let the plate go back to dish with even a drop of sauce remaining. Their wine skews natural, but fits well with the food, leaning lighter (I especially like the Txacoli), and the vibes are wonderful. Octavio is talented in his double-breasted blazer, Samuel is so brilliant and hilarious as the front of house, and the music is transportive. This place deserves all the success. I've seen some notes complaining about 20% automatic gratuity and want to note: first of all, we've been coming for years and it's always been 18%. Secondly, if you're not interested in the servers for the restaurants you attend receiving livable wages, please just stay home. This place deserves better from its customers, and delivers far above the level of toxic entitlement. read more
