Top 5 dining experience of my life! We started with the fattoush, which turned my salad-hating…read morehusband into a believer. We followed that up with the batata harra, which were spicy, acidic, crispy little morsels of perfection. We rounded out the meal with the lamb and hummus dish, along with the filet mignon and little pickled peppers. Everything was perfection. Beyond the amazing food, the restaurant itself was beautiful and service was friendly, attentive, but never intrusive or annoying. These guys are doing everything right. I don't know when I'll be back in Montreal, but I can promise I will be right back here when that happens.

After not having a bad meal in Montreal during our week long stay, we cancelled our reservation at…read morea top French place in the Old Town and decided to have something more fun. Portuguese food fit the bill and Douro had exactly the menu we were looking for with sardines, croquettes, caldo verde, and tons of fish and seafood choices. As fitting our last meal in Montreal, Restaurant Douro was the best meal and friendliest service we had in Montreal during our stay and we highly recommend it. We started with a salad, caldo verde (both included with our mains), two perfectly-sized bacalao croquettes, and six garlic shrimp. We had a choice of three daily fish special: Icelandic cod, branzino, and Arctic char. My wife had the char and I had the cod, both elegantly and perfectly prepared. The Portuguese wine list is extensive and I was even recommended a new favorite! It's near Little Italy and out of the way from the usual tourist routes. While you could call it a neighborhood gem, it's a big step up from that. Located a short, easy walk from the Beaubien metro station, it's perfect for the special occasion, quiet business meal, date night, or for just excellent Portugese seafood and friendly service.

I had wanted to treat a friend to a dinner and a show while I was in town ahead of her birthday…read morelater this month, and the original restaurant she had chosen fell through (we mistaken the genre of the restaurant). With 1.5 hours before our burlesque show down the street at the Wiggle Room, I remembered I had bookmarked Le Majestique and that it was 1.5 blocks from both Schwartz and the venue! We made it over from St Denis and were graciously seated in the window - perfect lighting for selfies and food photos! It was happy hour, so we indulged in oysters (NB and NS I believe), as well as their scallop on half shell; this was so delicious with the hazelnut oil and fermented beets and butter - we pretty much drank the liquid afterwards (unapologetically - I had it dripping down my chin I think). Next was their special of the day, ricotta and mushroom filled anglotti with ceps, smoked matsutake and another mushroom, garnished with shavings of truffle and Parmesan. This was earthy and warming and delicious. For me it was fall. I wished it was on the permanent menu! We also shared the prime NY steak with green sauce and baby heirloom turnips. To end the meal we shared a pudding chomeur aged Louis d'or cheese. This was a creamy bread pudding- like dessert with grated Louis d'or on top. We enjoyed this - I love restaurants that showcase stellar local ingredients and Le Majestique does this well! If I could spend a month eating my way through Plateau Mont Royal and Little Portugal I would gladly do it. Bookmarked for future visits. Thank you for a wonderful night Le Majestique!

Not a huge amount of seating and the three times we've been, we've seen lineups for groups larger than four waiting to be seated. Most of the items are offered grilled or fried, but you can ask for a different cooking method and they try to accommodate. They have a set menu from which to choose OR you can, as mentioned previously, pick your own fish by weight to be prepared. Unless you have a specific fish in mind that you must have and the exact cut or piece, I highly suggest just sticking to one of the menu items to keep your bill reasonable. The menu items are very fair in price, but if you start to get fancy and ask for a piece of halibut to be cut, don't be surprised if your meal quickly becomes $40 lol, which would be expected at a more fine dining establishment, but in this diner type of setting, is a bit much. I always order the grilled shrimp plate which is 8 medium-sized well seasoned grilled shrimp that come with crunchy, tasty french fries and a very nice, fresh garden salad. The price on that dish is $15, and it's a very generous portion. The appetizer sized calamari is also a very good deal at $10, easily shared between two people. Note, the calamari looks pale and unappetizing at first glance, but it's cooked just right and tastes great. For the fish and seafood lovers, this definitely is a more unique place and so many types of fish to try!
