| Damas - Montréal…read more Some restaurants leave you talking about the meal long after you've left, and Damas is absolutely one of them. We discovered this Syrian gem through the Michelin Guide, and from the atmosphere to the last bite, it was an incredible dining experience. We ordered the hummus, dumplings, fattoush salad, and lamb, and I genuinely don't think there was a single dish I wouldn't order again. But the unexpected star of the evening? The fattoush salad. I never thought I'd be raving about a salad after a meal like this, but WOW. Incredibly fresh, bursting with flavor, and filled with the most satisfying crunch. I've truly never had a salad quite like it. Another thing that stood out was the way Damas incorporates warm yogurt and garlic sauces into its dishes. The creamy, velvety textures paired with the richness of the lamb and chicken created such a beautiful balance of flavors. Every bite felt thoughtfully composed, with ingredients that complemented rather than competed with one another. The atmosphere was equally memorable. Romantic, moody, and full of character, with warm lantern lighting and metallic accents that made the space feel intimate and distinctly Syrian. We chose to sit at the bar, which ended up being one of the best decisions of the evening. We struck up conversations with the bartenders, who made the experience feel so personal and welcoming. A special shoutout to Diego, who was fantastic! He helped guide us through the menu, recommending the right combination of dishes without letting us overorder. I always appreciate a server who genuinely wants you to have the best dining experience rather than simply encouraging you to order more. Was it worth the price? 10,000%. Between the incredible flavors, beautiful atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality, Damas delivered on every level. If you're visiting Montréal and appreciate thoughtfully prepared Middle Eastern cuisine, Damas deserves a spot on your reservation list. I'd return in a heartbeat, and that fattoush salad alone might be enough to bring me back.

This place is great for either just picking up fresh fish to make at home OR for picking your fish…read moreand letting the experts grill it for you on the spot. Not a huge amount of seating and the three times we've been, we've seen lineups for groups larger than four waiting to be seated. Most of the items are offered grilled or fried, but you can ask for a different cooking method and they try to accommodate. They have a set menu from which to choose OR you can, as mentioned previously, pick your own fish by weight to be prepared. Unless you have a specific fish in mind that you must have and the exact cut or piece, I highly suggest just sticking to one of the menu items to keep your bill reasonable. The menu items are very fair in price, but if you start to get fancy and ask for a piece of halibut to be cut, don't be surprised if your meal quickly becomes $40 lol, which would be expected at a more fine dining establishment, but in this diner type of setting, is a bit much. I always order the grilled shrimp plate which is 8 medium-sized well seasoned grilled shrimp that come with crunchy, tasty french fries and a very nice, fresh garden salad. The price on that dish is $15, and it's a very generous portion. The appetizer sized calamari is also a very good deal at $10, easily shared between two people. Note, the calamari looks pale and unappetizing at first glance, but it's cooked just right and tastes great. For the fish and seafood lovers, this definitely is a more unique place and so many types of fish to try!
