Great place for a quiet date night or special occasion. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and never make you feel rushed. The food? We enjoyed a lamb dish from the specials menu and the smoked pork and it was incredible. The head chef is straight from France and as a Brit that has travelled and dined across Europe this is the real deal. Highly recommended for that special occasion. Not sure what to expect as the restaurant just moved from Marble Hills to Canton I must say we were wowed by the venue (ole Colonial house in downtown Canton), the menu (I had escargots), and the very friendly owners. It was a last minute change of plans for us and we were able to get a reservation on New Year's eve due to the recent relocation of the restaurant. Being French myself I was nicely surprised by the quality of the food on the menu, and on top of that the prices were very reasonable. Came for lunch on a Saturday and service was entirely too slow. Took 1.5 hours for a cheese plate and 2 iced teas. Never offered a refill on the tea and the cheese board was poorly plated with minimal meat selections ( looked like sliced salami from Publix). Came in for lunch and only 2 people seated at a table in the whole restaurant Should have been the warning sign Ordered there house burger minus onion mess and medium cook on the meat with fries. What showed up was A burger well done and covered in there sautéed onion mess on a bun so hard it could shatter a window, heads up, roof of my mouth! I have NO idea what is up with this meat there is no way its 100% Angus?! Absolutely disgusting hands down, without a doubt the worst burger i have ever had! I will say the fries where good and the salad was fresh greens and good. For a place that offers allot of burgers I would not recommend at all. Update from manager's response: You must be thinking of someone else because we showed up at 2pm. That's a complete lie. The server asked us what time it was and we told her it was 2:36pm. Not upset at all that lunch was over, she just offered it to us and that's why we asked if lunch was still going on. Once she said no, she walked away. Again, not a problem that lunch wasn't going on anymore. The problem was not asking us what we would like and walking away. I'm sure we would get the same rudeness at dinner and from the managers response to this post, this confirms that I'd rather go somewhere else that is more welcoming. I see a lot of other reviews stating the rudeness here as well. I'm sorry you can't accept any feedback. I'm so disappointed in this experience because I've been looking forward to visiting this restaurant for some time now. As soon as my friend and I arrived, the host asked if we had any reservations. No other greeting or welcoming. We did not make reservations but he was able to seat us because it was not very busy. We arrived at 2:30pm on a Saturday. He put our menus on the table and walked away. The server took about 7 minutes to greet us and she looked extremely bored and not happy with her job. I've worked in the restaurant industry so I do understand but not to the point that I won't greet a customer. She went over the menu as fast as she possibly could like it was a requirement. She poured water into my friend's glass after he said he didn't want any. Since she went over the lunch menu we asked her if lunch is still being served since it was a few minutes after 2:30 when lunch ended according to the menu. She said "no, sorry" and walked away. Didn't ask if we had any questions or if we'd like a drink. One thing I cannot tolerate is rudeness. We were absolutely not welcome there. We ended up walking out so didn't get a chance to try the food, unfortunately. I just can't see paying money to a place that doesn't want us there. What a roller coaster meal. The atmosphere: Downtown Canton, so that's pretty cool. Easy to get to and table was ready when we arrived. The 4 top table was quite small. We felt like we were on top of each other. Not the biggest deal, but hard to enjoy when the table was so full. The apps: This was the good and the bad. The Oeuf Cocotte was very tasty. We didn't find any bacon in ours like the menu said. It also came with zero dippers or anything. It needs something. The Lentils Cromesqui was ok, very small. The sauce with it was delicious. Neither was much of a sharing appetizer though the price would suggest otherwise. The French bread was fantastic. Half a load for $4.50 was somewhat steep, but I'd say it was worth the cost. Needing $4.50 worth of bread with a $13 egg dish was a bit steep The mains: steak frites weren't great. Very thin, grey and peppery. No sear at all. The lamb was great. The sea bass was very fishy and the risotto was over cooked The sides: the fries were delicious. Crispy and hot. They were WAY too salty. I was disappointed in the fact the menu had onion rings and sweet potato waffle fries. Maybe both are French but I doubt it. Dessert: the mousse was really tasty. Homemade? Not sure, but it was rich and creamy. The crunchy thing on top wasn't great. The disappointment came in the coffee. It was served with individual creamers. It feels cheap, especially knowing there's cream on property used for the oeuf dish. Drinks: their take on an old fashioned was nice, a bit sweet, but nice. The wine selection was solid as well. Overall it was fine. I was disappointed to spend $150 on an average meal, but we had a good time with friends. Would we go back? Probably not. Not for that price. read more

If you are expecting a fine dining french experience I would recommend you travel to France, as the service there might be more enjoyable compared to the things the take place in this establishment. It is pretty safe to assume the owners here do not know how to run a restaurant based on the past times I have attended. Walking down the hallways you can see the wet and dirty floors, along with the sound of the kitchen staff cussing, yelling, and saying harsh things to each other. Time between appetizers and main courses do not exist here, except for on valentine's day. Getting shoved into the bar area for a dining room was the least of my problems when i had to wait a TREMENDOUSLY long time for my main course to come out. The term fine dining is embarrassed of this place. Oh well... way over $75 meal and it wasn't even enjoyable due to the ambience. All i can say is C'est La Vie. From the reviews I can see the owners seem problematic and cannot take constructive criticism from the people of canton. I have never posted a restaurant review, but my experience tonight was the worst I have ever had - for price, quality of food, and customer service. It was a bit of an ominous start, as the server (who was very pleasant) spoke very little English and was unable to answer questions or adequately describe the offerings to us. He was French in a French restaurant, so a nice bit of authenticity I suppose. The menu is limited and pricey. We were a party of four, and two of us ordered filet mignon ($45 each), and two of us ordered the fish special - Pompano or something ($35 each). The fish was apparently OK (I am not a fish eater), but both steaks were beyond sub par. One of them was full of gristle, and the other (mine) was edible, but was NOT a $45 steak by any stretch of the imagination. I ordered it medium well, and it was like shoe leather. ANY budget steak house would have had a better steak at half the price. But I didn't complain and ate the steak anyway. The steak was also very small, and the potatoes were a tiny piece of gratin that I finished in one bite. Look at the picture for a comparison of the food item sizes next to my fork. My friend told the waiter about the condition of her steak, and he said he would talk to the chef. A while later, the waiter brought a man to the table, and his first comment was "What is your problem?". The problem was explained to him, and he went to talk to the chef. We thought he was the chef, so I am not sure who this guy was. Maybe the manager? A while later, when the rest of us were done eating, he finally came back after talking to the chef, and he brought a raw steak with him to show the "quality" of their steaks. My friend at this point said that she was no longer interested in the steak and chose to get something else, perhaps the burger. This guy told her no substitutions, but they would take 50% off of her bill. So, to break this down, she was served an inedible $45 steak, did not have the opportunity to eat any of her meal, they fooled around until we were nearly finished, and then still had the nerve to charge her $23 for a meal that she didn't have the opportunity to eat. Outrageous. She did a Yelp review shortly after arriving home, and their business owner responded. Instead of apologizing for the terrible food and service, she lied about the incident and claimed that the steak did not have gristle, and the co-owners tried the steak and found it to be OK. Really? They take customers' returned food to the kitchen and eat it? She further slammed my friend and claimed that nothing would satisfy her. I watched this whole thing unfold, and I can verify that the steak was bad, the "what's your problem" guy was rude and customer service overall was non existent. I understand that this is a new establishment and I am not in the food service industry, but I know this: * If a customer is unhappy with a meal, you replace it with what they want. * If a customer writes a review of your establishment that you don't like, you apologize for the their negative experience and promise that the next time will be better. * You don't attack the customer and call them a liar. Well, I can guarantee that none of us will return to this restaurant, but I hope for their sake that they get their act together. read more

My mother-in-law, wife and I ate there last night. The food was exquisite, the service was great, and the deserts divine. I have lived in Europe for over 11 years, and I felt like I was back in France. Like in Europe, there was no rush to leave so they could turn the table, and the ambiance was relaxing, making it perfect for conversations and socializing. We look forward to eating there for lunch, as well as eating outside on the patio for dinner when the weather is cooler. If you are driving by, and not wanting a meal, I would highly suggest visiting the small bakery in the back of the building during the days they are open. I am finding myself going there on Saturday afternoon to pick up a hot baguette and desert for the evening. I hate not to give as high marks for a local place, but overall my experience here just wasn't quite at four stars. First, the only croissant we saw available was a ham and cheese croissant on the lunch menu. My wife and I, having not too long ago taken a class on making croissants, expected it to be a filled croissant. Instead, it was a ham and cheese sandwich on a only partially laminated croissant. We had expected much more from a French restaurant. My braised beef dish was good, but, again, not quite the quality we had expected from a downtown French restaurant. Similarly, the creme brulee was not bad but not exactly at a level we had hoped for. The service was okay. Our waiter had very clearly grown tired of listing the specials (or just needs work on how to make recitation engaging), and he had another server trailing him who seemed disinterested. Overall, we walked away wishing we had gone to any of the other downtown Canton restaurants, because they all set a high bar to us! read more

Went for dinner. The ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful beautifully appointed in navy and white. Felt like a very nice fine dining experience. The tables are NOT sitting on top of Each other . Our server from France was excellent. Friendly, very helpful, and on point with service. We went on Wednesday so I ordered 6 tempura fried oysters. Freshly prepared sitting on the shell they were delish! I had the pork chop it Was so tender I could have cut it with a fork. We heard great things about this restaurant so we decided to give it a try for a rare date night. Menu is very limited and very pricey. We started with the Brie fondue and it was great. My husband tried the Steak frites that came with fries his meal was good. I got the hamburger medium rare. The burger was mostly field greens very little meat -thin patty, which is okay but two bites in and the burger was still raw. It all went downhill from there. Our waitress NEVER came back. We had to go pick up our kids so after 20 minutes we finally get another waiter to stop and we tell him we need our bill we can't find our waitress and we have to go pick up our kids. After another 10 minutes I had to leave my husband there, go get our kids and pick him back up in the area. No apology was offered to him for the delay and they knew I had to leave my husband there. We had a good bit of food left no offer to get it to go. The staff member never found our waitress. For the amount of money we spent and the quality of what we received this was incredibly disappointing. This is our first and last visit. I just read the response and it was equally disappointing. As you can see below they said sorry you are only giving us one try. I understand staffing issues and new business but the fact that no one noticed a bartender/waitress missing for over 30 minutes is surprising. In regards to my hamburger, I had no one to tell it wasn't cooked. I actually said the thin burger was okay. Point missed. No apologies to the customer who spent over $100. How about hey, we are sorry you had a bad experience our waitress walked out. Please try us again, let us make it right. Customer service was missed on this one. We shouldn't have had to beg to pay someone and I shouldn't of had to leave my husband there while I picked up kids so he could find someone to pay. read more

This French bistro just moved to Canton last month after they lost their lease in Marble Hill (near Big Canoe). Evidently, they had a good following there. The tapas (wings and shrimp tempura) in the bar were good according to the people enjoying them. The ouefs cocotte (baked eggs in pots with cream, swiss cheese and bacon) was tasty. Make sure you order the bageutte to go with it. We had the steak frites which was an 8 oz. strip with crispy fries and aioli (French mayo). The larger steaks are served under a cloque with smoke (that's pretty showy for Canton). The restaurant is dealing with mostly new staff so there's some things with the service that they're working out. I'd say be patient and give them a little time to settle in and this will be a nice option in Canton. They also have a large lunch menu with many classic French dishes available. The wine list had some good options. Most were priced around $40/bottle with some nice Bordeaux and Rhone blends. read more

Wow! This place in every way was awesome. The decor, the house has all the charm of the old Main Street homes, the glasses were sparkling so I noticed how clean it was. They set up the interior so all seats have charm. The food was fantastic, hubby had the cest la vie burger and said it was an experience. I had small goat cheese salad, side of fries, and of course the French bread to try. Salad was great, bread was great, but the French fries were unbelievably fantastic with a side of French Mayo. I can see that this place is genuinely trying. The food was just not good enough. My bouillabaisse broth was broken, had no flavor, my monkfish was so tough I has to cut it with a steak knife and they just loaded it with potatoes and 4 mussels and nothing else. No herbs, no spice, no crostini for soaking sauce...sad. I honestly couldn't eat it. My friends chicken was an odd color and I could see that some of her pasta looked over cooked. Beef tartare appetizer didn't come with a crostini or bread to apply the beef to which I found odd...but was told if I wanted that it would be an up charge. The lamb dish was grey colored meat, no meat on one of the chops, the veggies looked like they were out of a bag and my husband said he kept getting chunks of salt in his mouth. Cheesecake was dense, hard and burnt on the bottom. We took two bites. Onion rings were so greasy that they were dripping with oil. However our server was nice and attentive, just needed a little polishing around prebussing and a few little things. The cocktails were great. For over 400 dollars for 4 people it could have been way better. Hopefully owners will listen and take criticism seriously. The food needs a lot of work. Would love to come back and spend the money to have a better meal in the future. Cantons standards are quite lower than other places due to lack of options, so I am sure people think this place is great. But people who actually know food will not be impressed by this. read more

I really only have one complaint, When we went for happy hour we wanted the charcuterie but we wanted the cheese and meat, not one with just cheese and one with just meat. they had just opened and they said they would change it on the menu but they have not. it's really expensive for not having both items and no bread. we were lucky enough to get both the cheese, meat and bread for $22 but I guess things have changed. read more

Three of us decided to have lunch at the new restaurant in town. We were delighted! Two of us ordered ham & cheese sandwiches (one with onion rings and other with salad) and the vegetarian ordered a veggie burger with fries. Everything was good to very good, especially the onion rings! The batter was light and the rings were perfectly cooked. Service was efficient and friendly. The building is an old house with lots of windows and separate rooms. We didn't have room for desserts so will go back again to try. read more
