We stopped in for lunch. What a very nice treat! The lunch menu was quite varied. While you shouldn't expect a $5 lunch special, the wonderful items offered are very reasonably priced. The service was very good. The restaurant was packed when we walked in and the staff was at a minimum, yet, they catered to our needs quickly and professionally. I like that! The food was delicious. The meals had Fresh vegetables and portions that are just right for a lunch meal. If you like bread, make sure you get the French Bread and butter as a side! It is served warm with plenty for the table. Definitely put this French delight on your list. We will be going back for dinner next time! read more

Online it says the restaurant closes at 2:30 for lunch. When walking in at 2:10 i was refused seating with the reason that the kitchen closes at 2:15. You must be too busy if you are going to turn away business. We want to the new Peruvian restaurant down the steeet. Our bill was $150 and food and service were fabulous. It will be our go to place as we will not be back to your establishment....since you have plenty of business already. You should always honor your hours or change the time online. read more

I have really struggled with sharing this review given this business is locally owned and I want to support local as much as possible. We had a Friday lunch reservation for 2. I specifically noted we were excited to try crepes locally. Upon arrival we realized we were the only people there and it was very very quiet. The hostess stated before seating us that she was told to tell me they only have crepes on Tuesday. I was shocked thinking they could have explained that prior to arrival but it was OK and we sat. Another party entered and went to the back. The server didn't arrive for another 8 minutes. She said they only have 2 people staffed so she was sorry. I asked for recommendations for appetizers and we ordered calamari based on her recommendations. We also placed our meal order and she asked about anything else and we said no we're just on our lunch break. Calamari arrived pretty timely and was excellent. Great balance and flavor. My husband prefers less breading but I thought it was excellent and bountiful. Fast forward more than 10 minutes the server comes back and we are finished with calamari and she asked if we are ready for our entrees to get started. My husband wasn't pleased. He didn't consider this a 5 course meal situation nor was it portrayed in that manner and he wasn't amused. Almost 20 minutes later our entrees arrive. Onion rings were huge and a lovely golden brown. I asked for a sauce to dip them in. She said what do you want I ask what do you have? She offered ketchup, Dijon, and remoulade sauce. I asked for all three. She looked appalled. My husband asked for regular mustard for his fries and she turned her head and made a face and said through a chuckle we don't have regular mustard here. He didn't feel that extra judgemental tone was needed. When she brought out tiny tablespoon of each condiment for me she said he is being stingy because he doesn't believe you will eat all of these and in fact will give you 100 dollars if you do. I just said um ok thanks. My croque monsieur was unfortunately cold making the bechamel pasty instead of warm and comforting. I took a few bites and notices the bread was an excellent toast. Overall I think the it is difficult for me to really just the harmony of this classic due to temperature. My husband had a lamb burger with an overwhelming amount of goat cheese and a bit tougher than expected. Onion rings, Dijon and remoulade were all some of the best I've ever had. This place is a new favorite! We only discovered it a couple of months ago, but have already been here a few times. We have dined at lunchtime and at dinner, and were equally delighted with both environments! The cuisine is outstanding and the attention to detail is apparent. For dinner, the lobster is melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Some other favorites have been the lamb chops and the scallops. At lunch, the pasta carbonara was phenomenal and feels like a special occasion. The desserts were spectacular as well. My husband's favorite is a lemon cloud confection while my favorite is the chocolate mousse treat. We have been just as a couple, and also with several young children and have been served graciously in all situations. We will be returning often as there is an extensive menu and still so much left to try! If you are looking for an elevated dining experience, give this place a try! read more

We went in for Valentines Day and it was an........ interesting experience from the beginning. We had an 8:00 reservation, and when we got there at 7:50 there were about 20 people waiting to be seated. We were seated around 8:20. Not the end of the world by any means, it happens on busy nights, so not the end of the world. We were seated, and ordered drinks and food off the pre fix menu. My beer arrived about 5 minutes after the first course. For our first course, I ordered the mushroom tart and my wife ordered the butternut squash soup. My dish was a flaky pastry with a cold mushroom soup based sauce, while my wife recieved a soup that had congealed into a bowl of goo. It should be noted that both probably would have been good had they been hot. For our mains, we both had the filet mignon with what i believe was supposed to be a truffle butter. The reason I say that I believe that's what it was supposed to be is it was frozen solid as a rock, and nothing on the plate was hot enough to melt it. The steak, although cold, was a perfect medium rare, and again, might have been pretty good if it was warm. Dessert was basically there so they could say it was a 3 course meal. we both had the raspberry flavored mousse (I dont remember what the actual title was), which was mediocre at best. I should note at this point that I had not seen our server through this whole process. He came by and took our order, and brought my wife her drink. Food runners came to deliver food and bus the table. I saw our server exactly once from the time the first food was delivered to the time the last dish was picked up. All in all, there wasn't a part of my experience that I would describe as "good". The food may have had potential had it not been cold. Was this a case of a good overbooked restaurant just falling short at crunch time? Maybe, but I don't think that I'll return to find out. read more

Amending my original review based on side conversation with the owner - she had some valid points. I found a few of the menu offerings and to be a little distracting from what I've experienced as a traditional 'French' restaurant/cafe either in the US or abroad. However, that is just my perception...if this restaurant is authentic to her region of France, so be it. We ordered a lot of food - mussels in white wine and so much cream that the broth was closer to a chowder than anything (does not come with bread...extra charge for that?!); goat cheese balls that tasted like exactly that - big balls of fried goat cheese with nothing to break up that flavor; beef tartare that wasn't bad...just under-seasoned; and a super-weird "mosaic leek" - soft leeks wrapped in nori like sushi and served in coffee broth. None of the apps were bad, but they weren't good either. The best were the mussels after we bought the bread to soak up the chowder broth. For entrees, my friends ordered a whole roasted seabass served with beet puree, an odd (kinda slimy) mushroom sauce, and a grilled trumpet mushroom; and the skirt steak served with chimichurri (classic French...). I got lamb chops served with mashed potatoes. Everything was really salty - the mashed potatoes seemed to be mixed with a jus of some sort that turned them into a salt bomb. Both the skirt steak and lamb were cooked to a nice temperature, but they were both grey on the outside...no sear at all. Like they had been steamed or sous vide instead. We had to ask the waiter to identify a few of the elements on each plate, and I suspect he was making up at least some of the answers (I know what smoked paprika tastes like, and the brown clumps of bitter powder on my plate were not it.) I didn't enjoy the meal. Restaurants get one shot to make a good impression and this one missed the mark for me. I will likely not be back. read more

Was recently looking for a dinner spot and was looking over the reviews here again. First, reflecting on my previous experience, I am not sure why I rounded up to a 4 instead of giving it a 3. I thought hey maybe we try again since we have 11 hours to spare. But then I saw all of the owner's responses to people. W. O. W. They are snarky, defensive, and in some cases just mean and nasty. Definitely not necessary. Definitely don't reflect being open to feedback or interested in growth. Based on that alone, I won't be going back. That's not the kind of leadership I want to support financially. read more

The service was great, the atmosphere was inviting, the food was delish, and OMG the BEST FRESH BAKED BREAD They have a bakery you can pick up bread, but we enjoyed a fresh loaf as an app! I went here with family. I had left a google review about my honest experience - which they removed - and then had a staff member go out of their way to contact a member of my party. As someone who's lived and studied in France, the owner's behavior does not reflect on our culture. This behavior gives France and French culture a horrible rep. Came for my daughter's birthday dinner. The waitress was extremly rude, said she doesnt recommend certain dishes on the menu because they are not good but the chef refused to listen to her. She then disappeared for half an hour before taking our order. She brought bread with no plates. The steak was very over salted and the waitress said she had no time for us when we were getting ready to leave, not sure why she said that unprompted? She then proceeded to use our personal information to to stalk my wife on Facebook. The owner said he is OK with their employees doing this when I called to talk to them, then hung up on me. This is a common theme sadly, just look at all the other reviews. They add a bunch of fake reviews but filter by lowest to see the truth. read more

I came here with my girlfriend and her family for her birthday. The restaurant itself was very nice and had a good atmosphere. The service however, was terrible. Over the two hours we hardly saw our waitress (maybe 4 times), Natalie, when she finally came to take our order she, unprompted, recommended against the fish, or at least with alterations as she made us well aware after the fact, which seemed odd. After it took a long time to get our food and when it arrived it was so salty to the point of being almost inedible. The appetizers were very good especially the escargot. When we finally were ready to leave, we asked for to-go boxes and our waitress, again unprompted, said, "she would box it but was too busy." After the experience my girlfriend was very disappointed and left a google review documenting our experience. An hour or so after leaving the review, the waitress found my girlfriend's mom (I can only assume after finding her name on the reservation) and chose to message her on Facebook. I've attached a picture of the message to this review. We found this completely over the line and creepy. After we messaged the owner about the situation, he sent this message in response. We are completely disgusted by our experience and hope we can prevent anyone else from having as terrible a time as we did. read more

Our first visit and we will be back. Service was good, and the food was even better. The owners are super nice. Overall, the staff reflects well on the owners. Outside seating on a beautiful evening and as serindipity would have it, we had the added bonus of a French birthday party event that added to the fun. My husband and I went there for our Anniversary. What a great experience. We were met with a Happy Anniversary card on our table. Our server, Natalie was fantastic. She let us know upfront they were short a bartender so things may be a little slower than usual because the servers were also making the drinks. We never noticed anything other than spectacular service. Our meal was soooo good. But the dessert, OH MY GOSH! I don't know what it was called but it was little pillows of zesty lemon, filled with peaches. The evening ended with them bringing a small bottle of champagne with a sparkler. Some reviews are focused on the food & I will say that the food is good at C'est La Vie. However, I think they need to work on other aspects of the restaurant experience such as service.. when one dines at a fancier restaurant with certain caliber of foods & prices reflect that, one's expectations are for a certain caliber of service. I think the whole restaurant staff should take a trip to Rumi's in Alpharetta. That is a restaurant who typically has great service. I'm all for explanations of new menu items, but when it takes the server 10 minutes at each table to explain dinner entrees during lunch time, that really cuts into time that could be spent on other things. More important service things in my opinion. My brother's lobster bisque came out not warm & when we informed our server Natalie M., she asked if my brother wanted it reheated as though we were inconveniencing her. When she brought it back she just laid it down. No apologies or anything. After our meal we were thinking of getting desert, but we were concerned about whether we had enough time to wait for the desert. We thought we'd just take them to go, but it took too long for the desert tray to come out even though our waitress walked by our table several times. Next time we caught our waitress we told her we were just ready for the check. When she came back out she brought the desert tray anyway & proceeded to explain each desert to us in detail. We did not order desert. Again I felt that was time well wasted on talking' it up. If you have a lot of tables to service a.) learn how to apologize & b.) focus on being more efficient. I'm not sure if the wait staff are trained to explain everything in detail even if the customers aren't interested, but after reading owner remarks to some of the other criticisms in these yelp reviews I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe it's the French way. I know that in Europe eating isn't rushed, it's an experience. I totally understand that, but I feel like that needs some balance when you have a French restaurant in the States. Run from this. We had dinner last night. It took us over 2 hours for and appetizer ($48 undercooked foie gras) 2 glasses of wine and 2 entrees. As we sat for what seemed like eternities for service, we finally got our entrees, both over $45. Scallops were drab, no taste and festooned like a clown plate. Lobster Pasta was marginal, overly lemon seasoned and also unimpressive. Worst of all was the terrible attitude of our waitress, no apology for over 2 hour dinner saga. If you have a special occasion, or you want to try something unique and different with a special someone or just because:: THIS IS THE PLACE! Not only is the French ambience and the classy service of the staff on "10" - but the food is IMPECCABLE!!! I went there for Valentine's Day and I mean they had a beautiful violinist come out and just play amongst the crowd adding a quaint surprising touch! I found out that the place is a family business, and these people are LITERALLY from France- bringing us an authentic piece of France right to Canton! This second time that I'm visiting, and I'm writing this review, there was a birthday celebration for someone and I mean they made it feel absolutely special for this person! They turned the whole place into a celebration for them, and I think that in this life, it's little things like that that counts. This is especially if a family wants to present a business together, and they leave an impression of the meaning & purpose of love ,connection, celebration, Groundbreaking food, and good times!!! Amazing!!! What a find in downtown Canton. The new menu was sublime. We started with drinks of blueberry French 75 and Old Fashioned. Both were perfect. Dinner was Coq au vin and Blanquette de veau. Both were beyond words. Then we ended with royale which was amazing!!! Relaxing dinner and a very quaint home turned into restaurant with jazz music playing throughout dinner. Natalie was wonderful in explaining the menu items and pointing out some of the more popular dishes. The menu rotates ever 45 days. They had made beef with burgundy wine sauce, noodles, and vegetables earlier in the week and that was offered as a special. Made the choice to have that, a small (way larger than small) side salad and of course, the french baguette with butter. All were delicious and look forward to going back. My husband and I ate at C'est la Vie to celebrate his birthday. We could not have made a better choice of restaurant! The beef Wellington was perfect, medium rare and very tender in a delicious puff pastry. My halibut was wonderful too. It had a delicious, delicate sauce which was different from any that either of us had ever tasted. Natalie was the ideal server. She helped make our meal just what we wanted. Lovely Natalie treated us so well that we felt like her only guests even though we were not. We will, of course, be returning to C'est la Vie. Many more delicious dishes to try. read more

After looking at the menu was extremely excited to try a new spot. After arriving for lunch it was not busy but looks like they only had 2 servers which made our wait during our lunch a little longer then we would have liked. Drinks- old fashioned was not great. Bourbon that was used did not compliment the bitters. Underwhelming Prosecco was a split which was just plopped on the table. Not the service that I am look for when dining out. Opening and pouring your guest beverage would add to their experience as well as increase your tip. Food- Goat Cheese Salad this salad needs to be renamed to serve a salad without the main ingredient being prevalent in the dish was disappointing. The goat cheese serving was 1/2 teaspoon on toast points. Regroup or just take it off the menu. As for the lettuces several pieces were bad and slimy. If you are going to sell a $10 salad without protein. The expectations are elevated. Burger could have used a thicker patty. We are in the south. The bun meat ratio was off. The favorite of the patty was good. The caramelized onions needed to be cooked more to add the flavor. Overall would order again Caesar salad which is a $5 up charge was laughable. This rendition of a Caesar was the same field greens on the burger and on the goat cheese salad. ingredient over kill. Poor execution of a Caesar salad. Service missed opportunity to refilled cocktails. Other server was stronger with communicating the specials for the day. We will give them another chance they did a great job creating a menu. The restaurant was comfortable and wish them the best success. Just a few items that could use a like more love and revision and they would hit it out of the park!
