We had dinner here our first night in Barcelona. After spending 10 days in Italy and experiencing shit service everywhere we went in Italy, as well as having no other food options than pizza or pasta (gag - craving pizza or pasta in Italy is like craving salt water in the ocean), this place was a nice change and did not disappoint! When you walk in, there's a nice classy looking bar, and a giant old school TV on the wall playing Looney Toons, which we found amusing. The place was pretty packed for a Tuesday night, and regardless of how busy they were, service was very attentive and the staff was so welcoming and accommodating. They speak Spanish and English. Let's get real.. the food! They start you off with some olives for the table, which aren't pitted and I actually don't care for olives. We started with the ceviche which was so limey and salty, it made your mouth pucker and smile at the same time because it was so sour and delicious. Then we shared the mushroom truffle risotto (yassssss) and the beef fillet. OH EM GEE the risotto was so addictive I couldn't stop eating it! The beef filet by itself was bland, but paired with the tomato sauce it came with on the side.. close your eyes and sit back and enjoy the orgasm in your mouth. The potatoes that came with the beef filet were under seasoned. We didn't care for them so just didn't touch them. My husband also had TH's blackberry mojito, their most popular drink. He enjoyed it and since I didn't drink, I enjoyed looking at it since it was so pretty lol. Cera 23 was delicious. As my trip to Barcelona winds down, I can say I have eaten at quite a few places here and Cera 23 was my favorite. The service was incredible. Servers were very attentive and friendly. We had a slight wait for our shrimp appetizer and the kitchen sent us out a free order of ceviche to start out with, on the house. We didn't complain or anything, but they really wanted to make sure we knew how sorry they were. The food was delicious, creative, and fresh. Best meal we had in Barcelona!! Location: About a ten minute walk from La Rambla, surrounded by apartments and other stores. Reservations: We did not have reservations, so we got to the restaurant before 7pm in hopes of being the first ones to arrive and sit the bar. Luckily there was an open table! The restaurant wasn't completely full at 7pm though they told us they had only 1 table open. I'm guessing people cancel last minute or just don't show up. Def recommend a reservation if you want to make sure you get a table. By the time we left at 9pm, the restaurant was full. Food: Grilled octopus - best grilled octopus I've ever had!! Loved this place!!! My sister and I came here really late at night - probably around 11pm, so we had no problem with getting a seat ,but the restaurant was actually still pretty full! Their volcano with seafood rice with squid ink was simply the BEST in the world. So rich in flavor but very small portion size. It's not your typical paella portion, but it's okay, because it was so creamy and rich in flavor that this was the perfect amount. Their grilled octopus appetizer was also amazing and was a good portion size - probably about 10-12 grilled octopus. Their blackberry mojito of course was the highlight. To echo prior reviews, the blackberry mojitos are a must try. I had 2 on my visit. I am writing this review 3 months after eating there. I tried to eat relatively light after eating the smoked Iberian pork. It was delicious but very high in sodium. While it was great, I felt like I would have a heart attack if I continued eating more than 2 strips. To be honest, this restaurant is located on the back blocks of Barcelona. I had to walk down endless side streets and alley ways to reach it. I went there with my girlfriend at dusk. Google maps, patience, and trial and error will bring you to Cera 23. My girlfriend noticed that the locals began watching us suspiciously after they saw me following my phone so intently. I suggest going here during daylight hours. I had 2 friends meet me here and their cab driver got lost trying to find it. Our waiter ordered my group a cab to take us back to our hotel. Our cab driver on the way back to our hotel mentioned that the restaurant is in a rough neighborhood with drug activity. My sense is that it is comparable to most gentrifying neighborhoods in the U.S. I would go back. read more

Came here for a family dinner. Cozy place. Definitely recommend calling / making a reservation instead of just showing up. Drinks were decent but on the expensive side. Staff were pretty friendly and accommodating. It was slightly loud when we were there - definitely attribute that to a semi rowdy group of folks. As for the grub: Apps: We ordered the shrimp (pretty decent, would order again), the octopus(left a lot to be desired, as I have set the bar quite high when it comes to octopus and I found the dish to be a little bland) and the Ceraviche (pretty good, definitely recommend). For the main course: The foie gras ravioli (was beyond excellent), the lamb entree (melt in your mouth good) and finally the sea bass - which was also good but definitely a level beneath the first two dishes Dessert: The muerta por chocolate (was phenomenal - definitely recommend this for dessert). The cheese cake - which was bland, though ideal for someone looking for a dessert that's only minimally sweet(though I must say, the presentation was excellent!) Drinks: The blackberry mojito was a great choice if you are a fruit lover (blackberries - obviously, pomegranate etc) Overall: Def a chill spot with nice service. It it my first time visiting Barcelona and had come here out of recommendation from my friend who had recently visited and dined at Cera 23. Location: Definitely a bit away from the main streets, it's almost a residential area. I would suggest using the address directly from Yelp to navigate. We typed in Cera 23 on Google Maps and it took is somewhere else as there were two options. Interior in quite dim but not to the point you can't see the person in from of you. Food: We ordered the app of the night which was a raw beef appetizer with foie gras, pine nuts, and balsamic vinegar. Great start to the meal! Also had the Galician Octopus, although cooked well, we felt wasn't too great on flavor. As for the mains my friends and I shared the volcano rice, a tagliatelle with shrimp and sausage, and a beef cheek. The rice was a squid ink rice with a cheese sauce in the middle and topped with bonito flakes on top. Basically like what you'd get in a squid ink paella. The pasta was well cooked and the shrimp was phenomenal! The beef cheek came paired with a purée and the sauce was truffle based. Meat was extremely tender and paired well with the rich sauce. Drinks: Blackberry Mojito! Enough said! Service: The waitress we had was definitely attentive and we appreciated her bringing out each course separately so that we can share and enjoy them one at a time. All in all, this was a great stop for dinner and I would recommend making a reservation in advance. THIS PLACE MUST BE ON YOUR ITINERARY LIST WHEN IN BARCELONA!!!!!! I found this place on yelp, and from what I read, it's recommended to have a reservation here to avoid the wait. But being the last minute planners that me and my step dad are; we took our chances and went around 10:30pm at night. To our luck, we were seated right away for a table of two. At about 11pm, more tables started opening up. So if you don't have reservations, go later at night. You have to eat here. Also if you check in on yelp, you get a free champagne drink. Definite plus. In regards to the appetizer, we ordered the Carpaccio, which was AWESOME. Mix your pork strips with the mayo sauce and you'll be good to go. The other starter dishes looked very good on the menu so I will definite be back to try the others. For entrees, my step dad and I ordered the Volcan Arroz and the Tallarines con gamblas. My only complaint about these two dishes is I wish they served a lot more since they were the bomb.com. The Volcan Arroz was like a squid inked rice that was very very tasteful. Delicious. With each bite you had the taste of the seafood along with the rest of the ingredients in the dish. As for mine, the Tagliattelle with shitakes, orange flavored prawns and chistorra, I was extremely blown away on how delicious this dish was. My tastebuds were going crazy and if i wasn't trying to save my money to last throughout this trip, I would've ordered a second. It was that good. I highly recommend and bet you won't be disappointed. For desserts, I ordered the blackberry mojito mousse and my step dad ordered the Torrija con helado. Just like with the other dishes, I highly recommend these desserts. It was a great way to end the meal. As you've probably read from the other reviews, Blackberry Mojito is a must. This was hands down the best mojito I've ever had. Be careful though, it's a dangerous drink. You don't taste the alcohol, yet it is in there. We ordered a second round of the drink after finishing the first round fairly quickly and before I knew it, i started feeling buzzed. You can't go wrong with this drink. So if you dine here, be sure to order this. Otherwise leave and make room for people who will dine in and order this drink:P The service was impeccable with our water glasses always full. The waiters also came around to check that we were doing well and that our dishes were satisfactory. (They were more then satisfactory). Very solid food they have here. We ordered one appetizer and 4 entrees for two. It was a little too much but we just wanted to try everything when we were here. The entrees were standard European size but for Americans it may be a little bit small where you have giant portion and had to take home leftover. I would recommend average 2 dishes per person or 1 appetizer, 1 entree, and one dessert each person. Shrimp tempura with mango sauce - one of our favorite, the batter was light and crispy, shrimp was fresh. Mango sauce was such refreshing and went well with the fried shrimps. Risotto with mushroom and truffles - creamy, cooked to perfection, mushroom and truffle flavor was spot on. Highly recommended. Ravioli - creamy, cooked to perfection. We were kinda full at this point so didn't enjoy it much. Very good dish. Sea bass - perfectly cooked piece of fish with mussels and shrimps. Beef cheek - tasted like braised short rib. Highly recommend the blackberry Mojito - we tried a few different dishes - Iberico Pork Sirloin/ Tagliatelle with shrimp and sausage and Octopus - everything was very tasty, altho' would skip the Octopus - prefer Octopus when it is grilled and slightly charred versus their boiled Galician style - which has a slimy texture on the exterior. Eating at Cera 23 felt like having dinner at a friend's house, and that friend made delicious blackberry mojitos. The restaurant, including the kitchen, was decorated just like a house, and both were roughly the same size as one, and we loved that. We ordered the fried shrimp with mango sauce, jamon, burrata, beef cheek, blackberry mojitos, and death by chocolate. Of those, I recommend the shrimp, jamon, or beef cheek. The shrimp itself was nothing special, but the mango sauce that came with it was sweet and runny to the point that my partner and I took turns sopping it up like it was soup. We inhaled Blackberry mojitos, and jamon. There was nothing wrong with the buratta, beef, or dessert. The service was slow sometimes, but there were only two waiters for twenty tables, so I didn't think it was an issue. I would definitely eat there again. read more

I would never have walked into this place if not for Yelp. Odd, off beat location. Once inside it was cool and hip. Very original combinations of food. We shared octopus, rice volcano and tuna tartare. My personal favorite was the tuna, then rice. The octopus was very good, but a bit too close to the sea for my taste. It had a gelatinous coating on parts of it that created a negative tactile experience for me. However, flavoring, etc were great. Whole meal (with two sodas) was €42. We LOVED this place - best meal so far in Barcelona! We had asked our hotel concierge for recommendations and they sent us to a restaurant the first night that was kind of mediocre. We ran into some semi-locals (Brits who vacation in Barcelona every year) and they highly recommended Cera. We are so happy we ran into them - this place is awesome! Super friendly servers...charming ambience with a view of the kitchen from the main dining area. But most importantly- the food! We had ceviche, tuna tartar, beef cheek and Iberian pork tenderloin- all were amazing especially the beef cheek (sounds weird but basically it's like a super tender short rib)...topped it off with an amazing dessert. My favorite restaurant in Barcelona. We stumbled upon it because we were just looking on Google but it was a huge hit. The location is in a small alleyway kind of out from the old part of town, but the food was fantastic. The steak tartare was absolutely amazing!! We normally don't eat cold beef, but this was seasoned so well. We weren't planning to get it, but the waiter was so confident in the dish that he told us if we didn't like it he would take it back to the kitchen. All of the dishes had superb presentation AND flavor. I also got the Iberian Pork dish, which was my favorite pork dish through out entire trip in Spain. We were visiting Barcelona and staying off of Rambla de Raval. We had gone on yelp to find a place off the beaten path (*cough* La Rambla). Based on the 4+ review, we headed towards this place on a Tuesday night. We were very fortunate to get a table, the last available for the night. We started with a round of blackberry mojitos. Get this. They are delicious. But moving on, because the best was yet to come. We were a big group - six of us - so we all ordered different dishes - and all were fabulous. There were two in particular that stuck out. 1. This was the special my sister had ordered. It was a pasta with king prawn, shitake mushrooms, and a chorizo oil. This dish was to die for. We all fought over the last pieces of bread on the table to soak up the chorizo oil after we had cleared our own plates. 2. The pork dish. GET THE PORK DISH. I can't remember the specific name, it had apparently just been added to the menu. This dish is hands down the best entree I have ever had in a restaurant. We tried a few more nights during our stay to walk in and get a table but the place was packed full. Our last night we made a reservation and were able to experience once again! I love this place! It's on a small, out-of-the-way street in Raval and it is full of romantic charm. First, the cocktails. I had a raspberry mojito that was full of fresh fruit and pomegranate seeds, not too sweet, perfection. Next, the starters: the first time I went I had a goat cheese salad, last time gambas that were a little too fried/oily but still delicious. For the main, I had a seared tuna with sesame and this cinnamon and pumpkin side that was amazing. The place is small and usually crowded so definitely make a reservation. Great food! Good prices!! So we explored a restaurant recommendation on TripAdvisor and the reviews were spot on! This is a nice clean hole-in-the-wall tapas place in El Raval neighborhood...pretty close to the Boquerria marketplace. Good place for sharing... The four of us started with wine and first courses (7-9 euro/dish): Crunchy king prawns with mango sauce and mirín, Watercress salad with peach and reduction of balsamic vinegar with warm tetilla cheese, then moved on to the main courses (11.5-17.5 euro/dish): Octopus cooked in the traditional Galician style, and Entrecôte of Galician beef with potatoes aromatized with thyme and tetilla cheese sauce and ended with the cardamom flavored creme brulee (5.5 euro). We sat in the outer entrance area away from the main area which was close to the bar...they only had 2-3 tables in the front and had more tables in the back. The gnocchi was everyone's favorite. The waiters' English was pretty good and they had English-print menus. The waiters also paired the wine pretty well with the food. We highly recommend this place. I had a layover in Barcelona and some how managed to stumble into Cera 23. This was by far the best dining experience I have had abroad. The hospitality was top notch. The host went above and beyond to get us a seat on a busy night when they were fully booked. We were seated promptly and a very nice waitress came over to help us. We asked for recommendations through out every step of the meal, she willingly helped and we were not disappointed one bit! I ended up choosing the Mushroom Risotto for my meal. Let me say this : BEST RISOTTO I HAVE EVER EATEN! It was flavorful, creamy with extremely fresh mushrooms. What sealed the deal for me at Cera is that they offer a taxi service at the end of the meal to get you to your next destination. One would think this restaurant is set in a fancy part of Barcelona but it's not. The ambiance, service and phenomenal food selection makes you forget about it's location and it makes the dinning experience that much more memorable. Highly recommend having dinner at Cera 23.
