worst internet provider I've ever had, representatives tried up-charging me for plans that don't even exist, couldn't answer my questions about why I'm getting 20 mbps max on my 80 mbps plan, tried telling me I'm only paying for 40 mbps when i can look at my plan and I'm clearly paying for the 80 mbps. tried to upcharge me $5 a month plus another $20 for a 60 mbps plan but makes no sense when I'm already supposed to be getting 80, dropped them immediately. I cancelled my service. I gladly moved my internet service to Centurylink in 2015. The store was so nice and explained it all to me. However, I had to renew my service contract and the 29th Street store was closed. I only have phone and internet, no TV. The person quoted me $69.95 a month however they thought I could get a better rate if they sent me to loyalty retention where they have programs that were not available to these sales agents. I went to loyalty retention where they told me that since I was an existing customer, the best they could do was $89.99 per month. I told them that all I wanted was an extension of the service and price that I currently had. They said they couldn't give me that. We finally agreed on a plan which was 39.99 for internet, however, while she was taking down my information, the phone call dropped (I was using their landline on my side). Three attempts later, a person got my order in. Next day, I had internet and no home phone service. I called into support and left a voice mail. No reply. Later in the day, I called again and the lady said that they messed up my order and accidentally sent an order to remove phone service and my account was now messed up. She reinstated the phone service as a separate account. Unfortunately, I had a family emergency that took me away from home so I haven't seen the bill. However, when I went online, I had a bill for $162. Because I personally didn't have the bill in-hand, I couldn't look at the bill on-line. So I called in. The lady said that the internet bill was really $123 per month and there was nothing she could do about it since I wasn't eligible for any of the bundles.. She talked to escalation who said they could give me a 10 per month credit. I was so disgusted with their non-competitive rates that I cancelled my internet. I'll try and get my internet through another provider. Obviously loyalty retention doesn't exist for internet service.....and I'm not buying a TV just so that I can get a bundled price....for one year and then have to suffer what I went through this year. If there were negative star ratings, I would've chosen -5 stars!!! Truly the worst internet service I've had. My internet service is dropped everyday, mulitple times without warning! The customer service is awful! I was hung up on 2x when the customer service reps clearly became frustrated when I accidentally said I had a router instead of modem! Really?! Then, I got someone who was actually patient & trouble shot with me, determining that it was the service & they couldn't resolve why my internet keeps disconnecting & dropping after it is connected. After a week of work lost due to no service, (I work from home), I will be cancelling my service, never recommending Century Link, and joining another company. I started with a $50.00 dollar a month plan. If you read the fine print this increases after a year to almost a $100 a month for inferior service and speed. The cancellation process was intentionally so difficult and convoluted that I got stuck with a couple more months bills with late fees (over $200) for internet I never even used. I also payed for the modem which was never properly accredited to my account, so now I owe that as well or I have to mail it back in. This company needs to be investigated for consumer fraud practices. read more

Save yourself the frustration and choose Xfinity. When I moved to Boulder, I had a choice between Xfinity and CenturyLink, and I chose the latter. Now I'm stuck paying $90 for an average download speed of 2mbps (when I should be getting ~40) while my friends with Xfinity are paying $60 for ~100mbps. read more

quoted rates are nonsense since Century link will add charges and surcharges, recovery charges, taxes and fees in a creative manner. They also managed to add couple lines with retroactive charges (outside billing period) - in total 29 line items. Customer Service was a waist of time. read more

Centurylink's mantra is to gauge customers of promised credits, acting like the seven times I called-in for the SAME issue, was Groundhog Day for them; their entire customer service department suffers from amnesia. Issue#1 I shipped their modem to them on 09/07/16 and of course, was repeatedly charged a monthly rental fee for it. I'd be on the phone w/ a customer service rep, and we'd look at the UPS tracking page together (as that I thankfully had the RA tracking #), and CL would see when they got their device, and that rep would promise, promise, promise to stop billing and credit me for the fraudulent rentals. It is now 02/27/16, and I've yet to receive a credit (though I was AGAIN promised today they're processing it, after spending another HOUR w/ them). Issue#2 Also, customer service promised to me that I could terminate service/billing without much advance notice (which I specifically asked them about, and explained I was switching to Comcast, and wanted no overlap in services). So I cancelled CL's horrible 3 MG DSL service (as that their facilities are outdated w/ them having no hopes of updating them) on 02/10/17, and of course, CL is billing me through 03/02/17, as that this horrible company has absolutely no ability to honor a promise they make to their customers. I'd appreciate honesty upfront so then I'd be empowered to make thoughtful decisions, but they fail to shoot straight w/ their customers. So now I am fighting that 2nd issue w/ them. It's exhausting and a complete time-suck. Stay away from their home Internet service! If you ever engage w/ customer service, they'll just tell you what you want to hear (and though I ask them to update my account notes and give me a reference#, they do not). read more

And when you cancel the service they casually tell you that oh now you have to pay for all the equipment we sent you. I told them I would just give it back to them and they wouldn't except it. Terrible terrible terrible. I'm a NEW CUSTOMER... trying to get service... a month in advance, I placed the order online... everything seemed to process, I got a phone number and a confirmation number in an otherwise illegible email (it was literally database fields and totally incomprehensible). THEN... I called a week later to confirm that everything was set up properly and that the installation was setup for the day I needed it (I work from home and it's imperative that I have service). THEY HAD NO RECORD OF MY ORDER!! So, I got a really nice agent, who was helpful and PROMISED me that he had everything set up and that it would be installed up on the day I needed. He promised me an email confirmation or a phone call if there were any problems. So... being concerned that I hadn't heard anything and now the week of my move, I called again. I have now spoken with four different agents and spent two hours on the phone just trying to get my new service set up and the installation scheduled. I have never had such a terrible time with a utility company... and that includes Verizon and Comcast, the worst of the worst! When they transferred me to the tech department for installation, one time they don't hear me at all, and another time, it disconnected. I had made sure to get the employee's name and badge and phone number to call back... but, when I called back they informed me that they have no way to track down that specific employee and I'm back to square one. Wow.... Four appointments to get my phone and internet connected due to "technical issues". Three hours on the phone to correct my bill to agree what I signed up on-line. Only for them to bait and switch me twice. They have a 30 day money back guarantee that they said they would offer. Will see if the check for $289.43 ever shows up. If not, I'll see them in court. My landline went out after the flood of Sept. 11th, (many phones did which is understandable). CenturyLink fixed it weeks later then charged me $85.00 even though they did not come into the house to fix it. They had the nerve to tell me that it was a "justifiable charge because we tried to call you after the repair but we didn't have your phone number." Yeah-the phone company didn't have my phone number so they had to charge me. The flood cost me plenty of money anyway-this is pretty low. Try Comcast. Didn't even start service, the sales rep claimed that a telephone cable (which connects to their modems) was the same as an Ethernet cable.

It seems not a day goes by when my computer tells me, "internet not available" and I have to switch off the modem and switch it back on, and then re-enter the friggin password which you can't change and is basically impossible to remember as it is 14 characters of randomness long; I am just thoroughly frustrated at the service provided for the cost (50$ a month outrageous!) and wish we could have the internet they have in Korea or something. Centurylink is truly absurdity at its finest. I have never, ever been treated so horribly by a company before. I waited over 6 weeks for them to even start my internet service after which I was triple charged. I was only refunded the excess charges once I canceled the service!! Despite their 30 day satisfaction promise, they even threatened to slap me with a 500$ early termination. I demanded to speak to a manager to only get transferred three times. DO NOT TAKE THE RISK!! horrible. First, it's slow. The first tech they sent out, didn't do anything, then I paid $100 for a new tech guy to come out to install a new phone line, but still so extremely slow at times. Download speed was suppose to be 20 mbps, but often it was less than 4mbps. Then to get an upgraded speed, they require a $70 charge to have a tech come out to set up a new modem, and I can't understand why a tech would ever be needed for that. Everyone complains about Comcast service, but this is 10 times worst. Also,, every time I called from landline or cell, or any location, the connection was always bad which doesn't say much about their phone lines. I was often disconnected or couldn't understand them or they couldn't understand me, and the problem isn't on my end. I called Comcast and they agreed to give me 50mps for 1 yr less than what Century Link was charging. read more

Ever since Qwest became Centurylink, we have had constant problems with our account and service. Centurylink continues to shut off our service with no reason and provide no ability to get the issues resolved outside of 8-5 business hours. When we finally do get the issue resolved after several wasted hours on the phone they refuse to take any responsibility for the issue and issue any sort of credit on our account for the inconvenience. If you have a choice in ISP's do choose something other than Centurylink. read more

I would give them a zero star for Customer appreciation and support but it is not possible. I have been a customer for over 25 years and dread the moment I will have to go through Customer service or technical support. Every time you change plans there is a problem with your email service (I stopped using it) and your internet connection. You need to spend hours (not kidding) and opening new case numbers every time you speak to a representative. We have been lied about the plans, what they offer and expiration dates over and over (plans that never expire according to them and one day your bill is double the rate you were paying). If you need to change a defective router, they promise to exchange it for free and then you will see it on your bill. They will NEVER reimburse you for anything, because they are ALWAYS right. If you mention case numbers, you will be derived to another department. Sometimes it is easier to pay and keep your sanity. Case numbers mean nothing.Why am I still using their services? Because the options are pathetic: less connection speed, bad rates, bundles that you don't want. And they know that, and take advantage of it. They could not care less for their customers. Worst ISP I've ever been with. Generally, with bigger ISP's I expect poor customer service, etc., but generally if you're willing to wait it out and make several phone calls it works out. Century Link, however, has reached a new low and is literally, in my opinion, stealing from me. They extended my contract for an entire year without my consent (I only wanted to change my service location), and then charged me a $195 "early termination fee" when I needed my service to end at the end of our agreed upon contract term. After hours and hours on the phone, several online chats, a visit to the physical sales office, and a lengthy letter submitted to their online email messaging system, they are still trying to charge me even though I've paid every penny owed for my 12-month contract. Completely absurd and it is downright thievery. Every time I get in touch, someone tells me a different story about their "policies and procedures." They also take poor notes so that when the next representative is reviewing your file they don't have a clear picture of what happened in the last conversation - essential facts are often left off. They finally told me that they would review my phone call records with them and if my "story" checked out they would waive the fees. They did not call as promised, even though I've contacted them several times since to request prompt resolution of the concern. Don't sign up with this company unless you intend to stay a paying customer until the day you, die, and even then they'll probably charge your heirs for your "service." (Okay, that's an exaggeration, but the point is, DON'T DO IT!) read more
