Constant internet outages, and no customer support (Live, actual person) to remedy the situation. The standard response is there is an outage in the area, and it will be resolved by 9 am the next day, which comes and goes, only to have Support give same response the next day, and the day after, day after... I wish I could give it a zero I called to cancel my home account even though I specifically said to make sure it was my home( with the home address and account number). 5 times on the phone now ( it's hard for me work wise to be on for more than 45 min) Now they want me to open a new account. Meanwhile I can not take credit cards and they say it will be days. They were supposed to call me back during my lunch so we could complete the process...I waited 10 min then called them... waited 20 min for someone to pick up. I had the same woman as earlier in the day... she said she tried to call me but wrote the wrong number!!!even though it's in the system! Then the offer from earlier expired and I had to qualify again and the new quote was $5 more per month even though it had been hours and I already had service!!! She was sending me links to confirm the quote but I couldn't open because I didn't have service. So I went home for lunch for round 2(for the day). Since day one I have never had the internet speed that I ordered, I have never even had a quarter of the speed they said I would! They talked me into increasing my internet speed and instead of increasing, our speed decreased dramatically. Customer Service and Tech Support were absolutely useless, passing me back and forth literally for hours, cutting off several of my calls when they had me on hold, never calling back, unable to answer basic questions, unable to fix my problem. CenturyLink residential 1 Gb fiber is awesome, and at $65 a month is quite reasonable. I recently had it installed, now I can stream pretty much anything, which opens up options for TV, music and other services. Aside from the low latency and jitter, I like that the price will NOT change, like it does with Comcast and other carriers. Now I am not permitted to cancel my Centurylink service because my abusive husband did not allow me any access to the account, even though I'm the one who routinely pays for it, and he hasn't lived at the address for the last year. He can't even come to the residence; there is a restraining order against him. Looking at other reviews, I'm not surprised that there are so many one-star ratings. A family member had emergency surgery, so my 93-year-old mother called on his behalf to see if there was a way to close his account as he wanted. He will be hospitalized indefinitely, so there's no need for him to have an account open at this time. I could hear the representative yelling at my mother, so I got on the line and asked to speak to her supervisor. The rep was incredibly rude, so I just kept insisting to talk to her supervisor. The whole situation was unpleasant. The supervisor was more informative and at least not yelling, but they all need a lesson in compassion and overall customer service. I have it in Lafayette, literally 1.5mbs top speed!! You can't even load YouTube with it!

Their "high speed" internet service is anything but. I couldn't download even a small upgrade to my computer operating system because the internet speed was so slow it would lose the connection. A support person from Apple checked the speed and it was in kb, not even MB. He said it was the slowest speed possible. Century Link told me that was the best they could do because of the area where I live. I have since cancelled my service with them and have very good high speed internet with another provider - my upgrades downloaded and installed within minutes. There were frequent drops in the internet service from Century Link, sometimes whoever was speaking in a broadcast I was watching would stop in mid-sentence repeatedly. It became unbearable. The last thing they did was lose the internet service for at least 10 days. When I called a recording would say there was an outage in the area. Some days they would leave a robocall on my phone saying the time it would be fixed the next day but it never was. I missed Zoom appointments and had all kinds of problems because of no internet for so long. I don't know if they ever fixed their internet service because after 10 days I switched to another provider. High speed internet service is available here, and with a competent provider, it's been great - and it's also less expensive than Century Link was. Good riddance to Century Link. read more

Like almost everyone else on this page, I'd give 0-stars if it was possible. This provider is an absolutely dumpster fire. The company I work for has been without internet since Tuesday (today is Friday). We, like many other businesses in 2020, use an online point of sale to run credit cards. This means that we have been effectively losing business for FOUR DAYS now. This, however, is not a concern to CenturyLink as they do not provide any sort of recompense for lost income. I spent the better part of the morning having to beg like some sort of Dickensian orphan for this multimillion dollar (if not more) corporation to provide any sort of restitution for our lost income. I moved to Boulder about 6 months ago and have suffered through many dozens of calls that make me want to explode. All I want is regular, dependable internet that does not go down multiple times an hour. The local techs seem good - when they actually show up. I have returned home twice for the mandatory 4 hour window and nobody has shown up. My time is valuable too! Just had installed today in west Boulder/Mapleton area. Technician came early, installation was fast even though it was new to bring fiber to the building. Download and upload over wifi is 500MBS+ and 900MBS+ if direct ethernet connected. Signup was super easy inline and the deal is great. Highly recommended. I'll update if any problems over time. My Century Link internet service has been down for 12 days. Two repair tickets were issued that resulted in a no show 3 times. When a tech finally showed up they reported that splicing at the main cable box was needed and he would refer ticket number VV414931Lafayette Colorado to maintenance and they would take care of it right away - but that never happened. There is no way to contact the repair local office, I've tried and tried - I just called and reached the Philippines who just provide routine questions and promise to have someone call me back or they claime to page the maintenance tech but that never happens. I have called them dozens of times about the weak internet strength line. They have confirmed it is weak but never send anyone out to look which would take a few minutes. I m calling again and everytime I m on hold they drop the call at repair. Ive never come here to leave a bad review. I can't even describe every nuance of bad (internet / customer / supervisor) service I have been through because I've wasted enough of my life and money on this deplorable company. I'll start with the top lines: 1) I complained about lack of internet, they acknowledged I was getting sub par service and sent a tech over. 2) this tech couldn't form a complete sentence due to what seemed like being high on pills and boozing (American born, same here) 3) they didn't make an upgrade 4) was charged for upgrade plus a tech installation that didn't exist 5) made three separate phone calls navigating the crap automated phone menu they installed that seems to need to pick up a fart in the background, and say "I'm sorry, I didn't get that", even when a question is NoT asked. I swear I breathed on several occasions and it interrupted itself during a main menu. 6) non stop up-selling during the "cancel my account" process 7) couldn't cancel account because I didn't pay them what was being unfairly charged to me. 8) still don't have my service cancelled. I am angry right now. For several years I have been paying $90.00 a month for a landline (because cell was so bad) and for VERY POOR internet. I thought it was my only option. I began renting some other property and decided to try TDS on the recommendation of our property manager. TDS came to service my property and all was well. Because the price was good, I decided to cancel my century link contract and get TDS at my main home. The serviceman came out and he was great. He told me that I was only getting 12 MPS through centurylink and he would be able to provide 100 MPS once he hooked us up. That was a significant difference. He then explained to me (which to a layman I would never know this) that century link was through the phone lines and TDS was through the cable lines. Who would ever know that??? For that reason, TDS was able to provide a beyond significant more amount of MPS. Then I asked him if they provided a landline (both of us work from home and the cell coverage is not reliable in the mountains). He looked at me funny and said, "why?""You don't need a landline, you will have plenty of MPS to talk very clearly on your cell here in your home." I feel that centurylink was DECEPTIVE to lead me on to believe I could only get 12 MPS in my area (come to find out, it is all that they are able to cover in my area), and lead me on to thinking I would need a landline to have good cell service.
