We requested the patio since the restaurant was busy and the interior was pretty noisy - we were seated quickly after just a brief wait. Service was very attentive for the most part. We started with an order of the cheese curds and they were absolutely fantastic. The breading is much lighter than you'd expect and adds the perfect crisp to the warm cheese. Poor service. Cold food. Disappointing experience. We are visiting the Quad Cities. I'm on crutches post-surgery and looked for a food delivery option for burgers, as my daughter was craving one. After researching possibilities, I came across Central Standard. I went on their website, and saw they offered many delivery options. I then happily ordered the food to be delivered. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from a pleasant gentleman who told me that they don't offer delivery and that it was mistakenly turned on. I then reluctantly agreed to come pick up the food even though it was snowing and I'm on crutches. The gentlemen agreed to have the food hot and ready by 6:25pm. We arrived at 6:20 pm and I sent my daughter inside to get the food. She checked in and was told the food wasn't quite ready (which was fine, as we were early). She ended up waiting until 6:45 to get the food and that required her asking twice while she waited and me calling the restaurant from the car. When she came out to the car, we discovered she never got her drink...so we had to go back inside and wait again for the drink. And guess what...the food was cold when we opened it up immediately after picking it up. We won't be returning, sadly. We were able to reheat the burgers and they were tasty. Nice atmosphere, fun ambiance. Have gone here since they opened. Today I ordered a BBLTA with an Egg. I asked for the egg to be fried hard and our server informed me the Chef does not do that. At first I thought I might have been misunderstood but there was no misunderstanding. The Chef cooks the egg one way. So I ordered the burger instead. Nice bun but cooked well done because that is the only way the chef cooks them. On my way out I let the Manager know I had ordered the BBLTA with an egg and wanted it fried hard. He advised Oh, chef does not do that, he is very particular. He also said we don't do burger temperatures, chef is very particular. So great place to go if you want zero customization. Central Standard used to be a staple for me. Recently they changed their menu- getting rid of the Cobb salad I enjoyed and the mushroom Mac n cheese. Three and a half stars is an interesting space, especially with 100 reviews, because that usually indicates some highs, some disappointments, and some general issues with service and environment. That is not at all what I experienced at Central Standard. You walk in and immediately catch a modern sports bar ambiance that definitely has an additional level of class. Our booth was incredibly comfortable, and service from Megan was prompt and incredibly friendly. The back of house is right there in front of you to see your food being made to order, and with our booth I could easily see the pass and saw nothing sitting for more than a few seconds. My wife had the PB&J (pork belly and jalapeno) sandwich, whereas I had the pork belly and gouda fondue burger. Both were decadent and full of umami; we were both incredibly satisfied. The hand-cut fries were perfect, not greasy yet flavorful, and even the side of honey mustard was on point. Lots of great beers to try, and our guests had a shake that was packed with whimsical s'mores madness. This was a truly delightful meal. I see some complaints from other reviewers that I feel need to be addressed. Shakes do not instantaneously appear - they take several minutes to make and be done right. Ever been to a Steak n' Shake where it took less than 15 minutes to get a shake? Our was made in about 5 and it was extraordinary. Get the stick out of your ass - let them craft something amazing for you. You probably just wanted a free dessert because you're a tightwad Yelpie jerk. Pricing: Very reasonable for craft food. It turns out that you have to pay people to do work in 2018, and if you don't like that, you buy the ingredients and make it at home. These prices are easily 25-30% less than a suburban major city. $12-$14 for these burgers and fries is strong. Or go to McDonalds and eat plastic. Burgers not "made to order" - I asked Megan our server about this, and the truth is, YOU CAN get it made to order. The catch is, the style of burger they use is a steakburger, so its a thin patty that you WANT to have cooked down well - this isn't a pub-style burger so you don't cook it that way. It even says so on the menu - I checked! Don't want a steakburger? Great, order something else! Again, whom I presume is another self-important jerk who literally chose to ignore everything else they ate in an effort to get a free meal. I call B.S. on you! Bottom Line: This is not a 3.5 star restaurant. This is a 5-star brewpub restaurant that has been the victim of a couple of raging a-holes. The place is lively and loud, the games are on, the food and beer are mighty tasty, and you need to make this a regular stop if you enjoy quality food and beer. read more
