This cool spot is located in Bettendorf in a corner strip mall location. They've got counter service along with dining room space. It's decked out with live plants, some comfortable booths and some tables. It's an attractive space with a good view of the kitchen. It's a solid little space. We ordered the house salad, which is tossed in buttermilk ranch dressing and it's super delicious. Such a great salad to start with before the pizzas. It's large enough for 3 people to share, as there were 2 of us and we had some left over to take home. Brian Olsen has pizza on lock! He is a master at his craft. These pizzas have an amazing flavor, terrific crust and quality ingredients. They serve burgers and a chicken sandwiche, too! We ordered 3 different pizzas... one with garlic cream sauce and green peppers, one with pepperoni, sausage & red peppers and another specialty pizza with the hot honey & arugula with pepperoni and Calabrian chili's. Man, that was some good Za!! Claire was our server and she was terrific, too! Clearing dirty plates, refreshing silverware and beverages. Terrific attitude! All in all, Bettendorf has an amazing pizza restaurant that the locals should be grateful for in their own neighborhood! And, Smash serves beer, wine, and cocktails, too. I wish I lived closer. I'd become a regular and dine in often! Whenever I'm back in town, I'll be sure to stop by to try some different specialty pies, like the elote pie. That one sounded really good! So did the za with wild mushroom & kale!! Maybe one day Smash will create a taco pizza to compete with Happy Joe's, rip Joe Whitey. But, seriously, there is no comparison between the two. This review has nothing to do with the food or their service, both of which are outstanding. Rather, this is about the incredible mid-management of this restaurant. Twice now I have intentionally shown up early to order a Sicilian pizza for my son and I (5:00). This is both of our favorite and this place is known for it. And both times we were told by our server they were sold out. Clearly the owners don't stock their store properly and fail to anticipate orders on given days. Our first visit to Smash Pizza. In a word, OUTSTANDING. My wife and I shared a large half-sausage half-pepperoni pizza. Actually, it might be more accurate to say we fought over it! Fortunately it was large enough to satisfy both of us plus enough left over for almost another meal. Truly the best pizza in iowa. I'm not personally partial to the thick crust but can see why it sells out if you don't order it early in the day. The wide crust pizza is utterly fantastic. Only complaint, they need a red ale I can drink with my slice ;) staff is always attentive and earns their tips, I guess a 2md flaw is it's a small shop and I've seen groups show up with no tables open for them to sit, I've been lucky I guess. The overall feel though is nice and homey. Lots of different people, families, business meetings, reunions, old couples there for a pie to eat and a pie to take home. We live in Las Vegas so pizza is not difficult to find and there is a lot of great pies. Smash is outstanding. Our daughter and son-in-law brought us there and we ordered the Bee Sting. This is one of the best Sicilian pizza's I've every had. The dough was thick and airy and the toppings were fresh and the sauce was perfectly perfect. Our other daughter and son-in-law joined us and they tried a thin crust pizza, so I couldn't help myself...and it was also excellent. And of course we started with a wonderfully fresh salad. Located in central Bettendorf, off of Devils's Glen Rd there is a shared parking lot available. Seating is limited, a few seats at the bar are available. I am a true Quad City Pizza Lover... so I had to dig into the reviews to see if straying would be worth it. Overall the food came out quick and was delicious. This is thin crust (but not cracker) pizza. We ordered a pepperoni and The Bianco. The pepp was delicious! The Bianco was really good, but it felt like it was missing something (maybe red pepper flakes?). Our server was attentive and friendly. The dining area is very small and it got very loud - at one point our table couldn't even hear each other speak. Overall it was still a good experience. We ended up here after as a Plan B to another restaurant and we are so thankful! Easy to find location and tastefully decorated inside. It was bright and not over stimulating. Very clean. The menu is on the small side but easy to find something for everyone. We tried the meatballs ( BIG and delicious!) with bread and plenty of sauce. Could easily be a solid appetizer for 4 people. The ambiance was cool and the space was large. We waited maybe 10 min it was before getting a table. The customer service was good and attentive. We started with the bread plate and added burrata. The burrata was not seasoned so it felt like we were just eating cheese which was weird because I love cheese and know the different flavors. We only had three well portioned sizes of the garlic buttered bread which I wish we had more because that was the best part of the bread plate. The half and half pizza was a plus. I'm happy they allowed us to do that. The kale and mushroom was tasty but again it liked something. Maybe spice, more herbs? It was overly greasy since they deep fry the kale. The house salad was unique, deliciously seasoned, and super fresh. I loved the shaved radishes and the fact that it came dressed. Our pizza was also incredible - we opted for half Biano/half Alla Vodka and were equally impressed. The fried kale on the Alla Vodka was so good!! I struggled with this rating and decided on 4 stars because we had a very weird service experience. When we walked in, we were ignored by the hostess for a good 5-6 minutes, and it was very unclear what the seating situation was. My wife and I have spent a lot of money here. A lot. At least for us I guess. And today I ordered $66 of pizza with 1.5 hours of lead time. I showed up 1.5 hours later. No pizza. After 20 minutes of nobody offering me an explanation or a drink, I felt like somehow my 6' 220 pound body was invisible. It finally came out after me standing there w no drink or explanation for 40+ minutes or break on the price. We love this place. My wife worked in food industry here for 15 years. I worked in a bar for 9 years to pay for college. I have never ever not left a tip. Until today. I literally paid the $66. Took 54 years. I can't believe it. I felt like I was treated less than human. Unacceptable. I know the owners are good ppl. I'm sure they weren't there tonight. I would encourage them to fire everyone who was. read more

We ordered a large pizza half mushroom half sausage to pick up. I was looking forward to this because all our friends said it was the best pizza they've ever had in Bettendorf. It was so salty. I could hardly eat it. I can still taste the salt in my mouth 1/2 hour after I'm finished. my husband likes pizza and he likes salty things. He didn't like this pizza and he didn't like how salty it was. It was also overcooked and a little too brown around the edges . I had to search hard to find any mozzarella cheese. I think it was on there but very little. I would give it a D- It also cost around $20 for this one pizza which is in the high price range. I'll start by saying Chef Brian is extremely talented BEYOND pizza and have enjoyed his food at restaurants and catered events for years. I've been to Smash Pizza several times since they opened and have enjoyed everything from the salads to the various pizzas and appetizers. Recently I found THE PIZZA CRUST OF MY DREAMS: the Sicilian. See picture but basically it has ruined every pizza I've had elsewhere. I'm not even a crust gal and this is to die for - I don't waste a crumb. All the pizzas flavors have unique and inventive taste but I'm particularly fond of the kale and mushroom. I don't even like mushrooms on pizza - it's that good. For those that complain (I've heard) about the fact its on a strip mall and is small inside: you know how you keep a new restaurant operational and focus resources on the quality of the food? -- keep it small and simple. Besides that I LIKE the space inside. It's not a place for a large group unless you go at an off hour. Last I checked they do not do reservations.
