    Taco Pizza

I didn't know what to expect when coming here, but it kind of reminded me of, not to sound rude, but Chuck E Cheese, like the nostalgia of it (only because there's a small arcade in the corner of the restaurant). There's a lot of seating there, and when I went it was fairly empty. They have a buffet from Monday through Friday, from 11ish am to 2 pm. I went when the buffet was about to close, so opted out to order a taco pizza. It's initially a regular pizza with taco toppings and tortillas chips on it. It's really good and definitely worth a try, especially with their taco sauce. They have other menu items, but as far as I know they're known for their pizzas. Definitely recommend!!

We were in Bettendorf this weekend for baseball, and many people recommended trying Happy Joes. The restaurant was clean, although a bit worn. Servers were friendly. Everyone said we had to try the Taco Joe pizza so we did. It's a pizza with a bean based sauce, taco meat, sausage, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and Doritos. Overall, it was pretty good. The pizza was very cheesey and had a good flavor. The price was high for what you got. The most disappointing thing was the Doritos, which just got in the way and kept falling off. Some taco sauce on the pizza would have been nice too. Overall, a fun thing to try if you are in the area.

Give Avery a raise, she was so helpful and kind! She helped recommend pizza and even gave us a to go box. Top notch service The party decor added to a fun night. Arcade games were positively perfect!! DEFINITELY coming back. Rip Happy Joe

Delivery is poor unless you live "above the hill". Reasoning appears to be based on income rather than distance and ease of access.

It's decked out with live plants, some comfortable booths and some tables. It's an attractive space with a good view of the kitchen. It's a solid little space. We ordered the house salad, which is tossed in buttermilk ranch dressing and it's super delicious. Such a great salad to start with before the pizzas. It's large enough for 3 people to share, as there were 2 of us and we had some left over to take home. Brian Olsen has pizza on lock! He is a master at his craft. These pizzas have an amazing flavor, terrific crust and quality ingredients. They serve burgers and a chicken sandwiche, too! We ordered 3 different pizzas... one with garlic cream sauce and green peppers, one with pepperoni, sausage & red peppers and another specialty pizza with the hot honey & arugula with pepperoni and Calabrian chili's. Man, that was some good Za!! Claire was our server and she was terrific, too! Clearing dirty plates, refreshing silverware and beverages. Terrific attitude! All in all, Bettendorf has an amazing pizza restaurant that the locals should be grateful for in their own neighborhood! And, Smash serves beer, wine, and cocktails, too. I wish I lived closer. I'd become a regular and dine in often! Whenever I'm back in town, I'll be sure to stop by to try some different specialty pies, like the elote pie. That one sounded really good! So did the za with wild mushroom & kale!! Maybe one day Smash will create a taco pizza to compete with Happy Joe's, rip Joe Whitey. But, seriously, there is no comparison between the two. Smash is hands down one of the best pizza restaurants in the QC's and is better that many BIG city pizza spots. Thanks for the good time, great food & service!!

There was some kind of a party going on inside so we decided to sit outside. The waiter was decent, and seemed knowledgeable about the menu. I wasn't sure if I wanted the garlic chicken pizza or the chicken fajita pizza. He said definitely the garlic chicken pizza. Since we walked to the restaurant from our hotel, I also had a Long Island iced tea. I wouldn't say the food was bad. However, I could neither see nor taste any garlic on my garlic chicken pizza. I could see and taste the chicken, peppers, and onions. I was not able to pick up any hint of garlic. One of the other coaches tried some of my pizza. He said he thought it could use a little something to give it a bit more flavor. I agreed. Maybe some garlic would have helped? My Long Island iced tea also tasted fine. However, I have to question the alcohol content. I drank it in less than half an hour and didn't feel a thing. I decided not to get another one. At $8.88 per drink, I didn't think it was worth it. I want to stress that the food and drinks we got tasted fine. I just didn't feel like I got what I ordered. We had a good time out on the patio, so the time wasn't wasted, but I highly doubt I'll be going back. I didn't take any photos because I wasn't expecting to do review. After thinking about it for a while, I decided people would want to know about my experience there. What do you think? Was this review helpful?

It looks like a typical sports bar/restaurant. What sets it apart is the quality of the food. With our most recent visit, we went at an off-peak time between lunch and dinner. The place was relatively empty. Service was timely. For an appetizer, we had fried pickles. These looked like they were cut, battered, and fried in-house and were good. For my entree, I had the Zombie Invasion Burger. They advertise it as possibly the best burger on the planet. I don't know if I would endorse it being the best on the planet, but it's definitely one of the better burgers I have had. It's a gourmet-type burger, pairing sweet with some zing. The fries were standouts as well. They weren't particularly fancy, but they were well seasoned (just salt and pepper) and based on the quality, I am guessing they were cut in-house and fried to order. My wife had a Mediterranean salad, which she liked. I did not try any of it, but I have had a salad there before (Plantation Salad) and thought it was pretty darned good. For dessert, I had the cheesecake. This was good. It wasn't necessarily great, but I left happy. Overall, the food here is really good and the prices are appropriate.

Now I understand why this place has been here forever!! Great crust on this pizza. Sauce, cheese and other ingredients are good quality. Only "dings" I give them: the unorthodox slicing makes it really hard to eat - just finish slicing with two more cuts!! And the large pizzas we ordered got very soggy in the center, making those slices less desirable, which is counter intuitive. The place was PACKED when we went to pick up our ToGo order. Not even room to stand and wait inside. Plus it looked like it had its last makeover in perhaps the mid 70s. I liked the pizza, sliced it more myself and would definitely recommend take out.

Watch for your Kennedy Half Dollar in your change. You can get pre-made frozen pizzas with a bit of advance notice; you'll need to find someone to ship them. We like to get the half-baked pizza and take it home and freeze sections to have later. On our most recent visit we got dinner and took home our half-baked pizza to start enjoying the next evening. I got the Italian Beef and my wife got Fries Chicken. Both were great! I had a large pile of tender beef with green pepper on French bread. The chicken was crispy, piping hot, and delicious. The tables are either original or food replicas, as are the chairs. They still have the old style cloth rotating hand towels in the bathroom, with paper towels for the less adventurous. Bar drinks are good, and they carry a wide variety of beer by the bottle and can and soda by the can so you won't have to take a Pepsi product over Coca-Cola or visa-versa. You may get to enjoy sitting at a table with others if they're busy, but don't shy away from making new friends It's a unique style of pizza (QC style), but there are a lot of us that like it and I've converted a number of newbies into fans!
