Summarizing: Local store that cares about customers and still has sharp prices! We stumbled upon this store looking for a new frame.. Some other stores in white plains had quite boring collections when it came to men's frames. I also wanted to avoid the big chains because I think local business deserve more support. At Central Eyes we found a nice selection, including good brands and I quickly found a frame that I really liked for a very reasonable price. Terry Schneider, the owner, provided us with great customer care, and was able to make a nice package deal for us. I just picked up my glasses and I am really happy with them. WOW..... I never write bad reviews but I blame yelp for giving me the misfortune of meeting the owner of this place and I feel the reviews for this place need to be a better reflection of this business. I went to this place because of "50% off pair of Rx lenses" ad on yelp and apparently good reviews. I first called to ask specifically how much progressive lenses were. He gave me a price and when I asked how long it'd take he said I'd have to come in because it depends on the prescription. I went in around 10 minutes later and he said I never asked about progressive lenses so the cost would be an extra 100. and then another 100 for anti-reflective. This was significantly more than other places I've gotten estimates for. I wasn't even annoyed about the prices. There are many other eyeglass places that are much cheaper so it's not like this place was my only option. but wow the guy was SO UNBELIEVABLY RUDE. When I asked about the price that was quoted to me over the phone, he accused me of never asking about progressives. This is absolutely false. I definitely asked about progressive lenses but I also understand some people may not hear well or I may have been misunderstood. However, his accusation caught me off guard because I was not even angry about it, yet he was trying to aggressively fight with me saying that I never asked about progressives. He clearly just doesn't listen to callers, which is really unfortunate because he wasted a lot of my time. I then asked about the 50% off pair of rx lenses. Yelp does not specify that it is only 50% off pair of rx lenses with purchase of frame. I totally understand if there is a misunderstanding and I am not going to argue about pricing with a store owner. That's just not something I do. But the least he could do is accept a tiny morsel of responsibility for the false advertising or the incompetence in answering a simple question (accurately) over the phone. His aggression, anger, and overall unpleasantness was really unnecessary and I thoroughly regret ever calling this business. I hope he works on his communication and customer service skills. read more

Its been over a month and still havent received my glasses, i call daily and they promise me they will call the lab and call me right back and they never do. The place wasnt very clean either, dust everywhere where the glasses are in the case. Will never use them again. read more

I went here April 2021, With my prescription for glasses in hand. I ordered glasses. Paid a small fortune and waited way longer than expected because the glasses never came as promised. I loved the frames I picked but once the lenses were in that was a whole other story but I had no choice. Fast forward a year and I go back to my Ophthalmologist for my yearly checkup. They check my glasses only to tell me that the prescription is not what they wrote. No wonder why I have been having headaches. I don't recommend this place at all. I went there with a Groupon for an exam and discount lenses. I ended up paying $290 plus the Groupon price. The exam was excellent and my sunglasses are nice, I got the cheapest frames because the lenses add up quickly. That's what the one star is for. Now for the bad part. When I asked for a copy of my Rx I was told that if he gave me a copy he would be out of business!!! I found out later that this is illegal and unethical. YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO YOUR RX!!! It's your Rx and you paid for it with the visit. Because of this I can not recommend them to anyone I know. I will never go back. Also, I'm thinking of reporting them to the BBB. All this is a shame because the actual exam was very thorough and the selection was nice. Like another reviewer mentioned, I also ended up at costco. Since going to Central eyes optical I've had nothing but problems, my first pair I couldn't see out of them properly and they always exchange them however the last two pairs I got which were exchanges ,I was allergic to them one metal frame, they gave me plastic, two pairs which I was allergic to , I've never had this problem before and I've spent approximately $4000 there and when I went back and said I'm allergic to these glasses , my nose was red where the glasses came in contact, there answer was, we've accommodated you and that's it , no further resolution. I would not recommend them and I certainly won't use them ever again read more

Sharron was there when we picked them up and made sure he was happy with his choice. I went her for an eye exam because of the decent reviews. The exam was great; it was thorough and the doctor took his time and explained all the steps. Now for the glasses...I ordered 2 pairs of glasses, one for distance and one for reading. First off , I spent a fortune...and I had to pay on the spot. At the last doctor, I would only make a small down payment..:but okay I moved on from that. But now it's been 4 weeks since I ordered and no glasses yet. I called after 2 weeks and was told they were at the lab waiting for insurance approval. Shouldn't that have happened as sooner?? Someone was supposed to have called me back with more information, but no call back! Now almost 4 weeks later, I call and still no glasses...they say one pair will be ready next week but the other pair is still not ready and no ETA???!!!! I've never experienced this before! I feel like an idiot for paying that kind of money. Never again! I'm thinking of calling my credit card and disputing the entire charge, after all I've paid and have received nothing in return! Recently had my lenses replaced and they popped out due to an old frame, the owner fixed them right infront of me in minutes. My family has been using Central for 16 years! PLEASE RUN AWAY... I got tricked into trying this place. I ended up spending a small fortune even with a GROUPON. The owner and assistants are polite but Wait till you pick up your glasses. The owner cuts corners and makes lots of mistakes. If this happens to you you should run.... I got an exam and pricey eye glasses. When I returned to pick up expensive designer eye glasses they looked horrible because the glass lenses were cut so badly. I complained and the owner did try to fix the problem twice on his own and cut the glass so badly. I had to wait another five more days with no glasses again. I returned again to pick up my glasses and saw the frame shape looked worst. The fame still looked different from one another and each eye looked different. The owner tried to say that the frames were that way and it was just slightly off, hardly noticeable and assured me the eye glass lenses looked fine .I gave up because I couldn't go another week without my glasses Please don't go to central eyes in Hartsdale...Go some where else.... I found this place on Groupon after a very frustrating day at Lens Crafters. Glad I did, they are extremely pleasant and customer service orientated. Their prices seem to reflect the average standard costs of prescription lens and designer frames. I do not think these prices vary by much. I did not get an eye exam as I already had a prescription. They also had a much larger selection than most commercial eye care companies. Only downfall, they were not part of my in network insurance plan and no refunds only store credit according to their receipts. Overall, I was very pleased with my 1st visit, I received same day service and will be returning for my future eye care needs, along with spreading the word. Thank you. read more

I see other yelpers with the same problem.. I bought a groupon a while ago.. the deal was $200 off frames. It said for a complete pair which is also a lie.. It's $200 towards a paid.. I still spent more than I thought. They asked for $200 for higher index lenses yet my friend and I got a pair with high index lenses (1.67- the thinnest) AND frames for $125 at Warby Parker online and I'm super happy with the quality.. Keep in mind that my frames were in the cheapest section at the store too. I've gotten quotes from other places and their quote was still above everyone else's. Places such as this one can pretty much throw around whatever price they want.. I ended up getting basic lenses which looked horrible because of my high prescription. Meaning the lenses were too thick for the frame. They're a complete rip off, and they don't even accept insurance lol avoid this place!! read more

Found this business bc of a Living Social deal, otherwise I would never have willingly gone to this place. The shop is a mess (particle board propped, not hung, glasses and trays and CLIENT FILES scattered about) They prefer to deal in cash. There is an ATM IN THE STORE wiindow. However not being one to waste money, I found glasses ordered them and gave Terry, the owner, $100 cash deposit and were told they would be ready the next day at noon. Upon arrival Terry said that he had lost the frames and the rx!! 2 weeks later we finally got the glasses when he demanded that payment be cash only, the glasses very very very expensive. Bought a groupon and was very pleased with the selection and service. Walked in and met with the owner who was awesome. He reviewed with me what the groupon covered prior to showing me the selection. I picked the frames I wanted and said he would have my prescription filled in a few minutes. When it was complete he brought them out and recommended the best way to care for the glasses. I noticed a blemish on one of the lenses. He took the glasses back, apologized, popped the lens out and replaced them within minutes. I thought it was a little pricey for frames, but then again I haven't bought new glasses in years. Regardless I will pay extra for good service. I will be back again in the future. read more

I went to Central Eyes because I saw them on Groupon and I needed an eye exam and new lenses at the very least. The optometrist was excellent - very professional. I needed to have my eyes dilated but didn't have time to deal with blurry vision for several hours so he told me to come back which I did about a week later. Terry was very professional showing me various frames at different price points. He didn't rush me nor try to influence me to buy the most expensive frames. I did spend a lot on my glasses however I have a strong prescription and wear progressive and transition lenses. All said, I am very satisfied with the glasses and the service I received. read more

Don't be fooled by the $40 groupon that includes an aye exam and $200 voucher! you will still be paying AT LEAST $350 on even the cheapest pair. I decided I did not want to purchase from them and asked for a copy of my RX so I could look elsewhere for frames and Terry (the owner) told me I would have to pay $90 for it, WHICH IS ILLEGAL. you are 100% entitled to a copy of your prescription at no extra fee after paying for an eye exam. I wish I could give this place 0 stars, please do not go here, they are such a shady business, you are better off going to costco or purchasing contacts/frames online. hope this helps! read more

The prices in Manhattan coupled with the miserable customer service brought me to Westchester a few weeks ago. I had always bought my glasses in New York but after reading YELP I decided to try Central Eyes Optical. WOW - what a fabulous experience. I was greeted warmly when I entered the store. Terry, the owner, spent a lot of time with me. He has been in the business so long that he immediately can recognize what style of frame and what color would be best. I tried on frames that I never would have considered before and now get raves about how I look. The glasses were ready on time and fit perfectly. I was in town for a wedding, and realized with less than three hours to spare that I'd left my contacts for my right eye in the city. I found Central Eyes Optical online and called, and despite the last minute rush and it being close to closing time, the owner, Terry, told me to come right in and he'd try to help me. When I got there Terry went above and beyond to find my contact prescription, which is an uncommonly high one, in my preferred brand, for just my right eye. I had the same experience as another yelper. I bought a groupon and ended up spending more money out of pocket. The worst part is that I felt like I was being treated differently than the other customers who were paying cash and not using a groupon. They were ALL told that their glasses were covered for a year under warranty but I was never told that. I ususally buy my glasses and contacts from the Costco in Portchester. But as a grouponer I saw this one. I bought a groupon for $39 and it said for a complete pair of glasses. Before I bought it I called to comfirm I would get a complete pair of glasses for $200. And the gentleman I spoke to said..."Complete means complete" So I bought two groupons. One for me and one for my daughter. Much to my surpise when I got there it was NOT for a complete pair of glasses but $200 TOWARDS a set of glasses.... very misleading. Not to mention that the frames range from $150 - $400 and just the lenes were $150. I ended up finding frames for $150 - which by the way they are few and far between... added to the $150 or the lenses less the groupon I paid and additonal $100. Don't get me wrong $139 for glasses is a great deal and in all fairness the glasses fit great and are crystal clear. I actually don't mind wearing them at all. I just felt the groupon was misleading. Not only did Terry and his staff help me in every way with my selection of GORGEOUS Tiffany frames and lenses, Terry was INCREDIBLY personable and, I must say, beyond funny and kind!!! We sat and schmoozed for a good long while, and I left feeling more like a friend than a customer! This was my third time at CEO, always going with a Groupon.
