My husband and I are both fans of Rye Eye Care. We've both had our eyes examined here and I also bought a cute pair of Kate Spade frames. The ladies there are so friendly and nice. They make great small-talk and are really apologetic when things are busy, as was the case twice when we came in to look at glasses and then pick them up. They definitely called me when they were ready and then took the time to sit with me and make sure everything was a-OK. They also have the latest technology for looking for eye complications. I have diabetes and this is important to me. The doctor and the assistant were both nice and answered my questions. The doctor also put me at ease with my results. :) read more

The other reviews are correct, this is a friendly and well run office. My first impression was that it was a very clean and modern looking office, slightly on the upscale side. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Dr. Singh was very professional as was everyone else in the office. During my last visit, there was a computer glitch so they couldn't take my credit info but they handled the situation well and said they would just take my info over the phone when it was back up. Ordered contacts here and they arrived in a timely matter and they gave me rebate coupons to bring the price down (on par with other eye doctor offices I've been too). I just moved from Philadelphia (where I went to Modern Eye, top notch place) and came here based on Yelp reviews and that they accepted VSP. First of all, know the difference between a place like this and Costco eye center. Not all lenses are created equal nor selection of frames. You will only find fancy and high quality frames here. Be ready or that may deter your experience from a cost perspective. I am a blinky and can break down in giggles at the eye doc office so I need some fun patient optometrist to make my experience less irritable. Dr. Singh seems to have a good personality. Now they do have a tech who does the initial exams like the 'puff' machine and eye photo machine. Therefore my time with the real doc feels shorter. This year, because I'm a blinker, I still had to dilate my eyes for him to check it. Bummer because I was down $45. The eye photo machine is not covered by insurance and they tell you in writing. Opt out if you don't want to pay for it. Steven the optician helped me with frames and he was very nice and I didn't feel pushy. Overall a great place and you can go shopping afterwards in downtown Rye (window shopping for me, I don't get this place really :)). read more

I have been a long term repeat customer of Rye Eye Care for about 17 years. I have other choices in town, but have never had need to try them, as I have always been satisfied with my experiences at Rye Eye. Every visit over those years has been met with detailed personalized service and attention, combined with a broad and inspiring collection of high quality merchandise well-presented in their storefront in Rye. The operation is professional in all aspects, from the careful and thorough initial exams and fittings through to the fine tuning and adjustment. Even Casey is a consummate pro at what he does ;-) Here's an example of the type of business they run. In late 2015 a pricey designer frame, which I had bought from Rye Eye Care, suddenly failed with no provocation and under light use. My opinion was that this was a quality control issue, but unfortunately the warranty had expired. I discussed this with Sue at Rye Eye Care, who approached the manufacturer on my behalf, convincing them to do the right thing and replace the prematurely failed frame at no cost to me! This effort was way beyond expectations, having no direct benefit to her practice other than the karma that comes from taking the extra time and energy to help someone obtain a fair settlement. I rarely come across such satisfying service, and feel obligated to shout out when I do. Thanks to a great team! read more

I have never had such an unhappy experience getting glasses. They ordered frames for me and when I left the store they said they will be in after the weekend. Two weeks went by and they never called. When I called, the lady was busy so she was supposed to call me back but she never did. I showed up to the store two days later and they told me that they still haven't been delivered. It didn't really bothered me that my glasses took over one month to get in. What really bothered me was the HORRIBLE customer service and inconvenient business hours. This store is like two different worlds: the wonderful optometrist in the back, and the people who sell glasses in the front. The optometrist, Dr. Bloom, has been treating me for 10 years. He is smart, efficient, creative, friendly and warm. I am hard to fit, no other optometrist could come up with good solutions, Bloom has, several times, over the years. His staff stays with him. Not so when you are shopping for glasses. They have a limited selection, high prices. The owner/manager has been there for years and is knowledgeable: she can't hold onto her staff, huge turnover, and they know nothing. Not surprisingly, she wants to sell only what she has in stock (again, limited). If the store is not crowded, and you like what she has, and you don't mind overpaying, you may be OK. If anything goes wrong with your prescription, or if you want to be refitted and it's not simple, watch out -- it is your fault. This is a place where customers plays second fiddle. I get my prescriptions there, and fill them in Costco. Who knew? Many other people do that too -- when I was at Costco, they had a huge stack of Rye Eye Care prescriptions. Amazingly, many find that service at Costco is better than at Rye Eye Care. read more

He takes the time to explain the entire health of your eyes, something someone has never done for me before. He was very professional adept with figuring out what prescription I needed to go with. I have been a patient at Rye Eye Care for approximately a year now. It is a lovely office in charming downtown Rye. The staff are all very friendly and make an effort to remember you. The doctor that I have seen is very professional and thorough. They were accommodating with my refusal/inability to handle the air puff test and found another way to check my eyes for glaucoma. I have since needed to go back to try out new contacts and they tried their best to find me a more comfortable brand. In addition to eye care, I have now purchased 3 frames from Rye Eye Care and they make it a fun experience. They always call to let me know when contacts/frames arrive and ensure that the fit is perfect. Very pleased! read more

I could not navigate the rudeness of the front office to get an appointment. They are very disorganized and when one asks questions the staff show real attitude. There were 4 women behind the counter and not one was helpful. They smiled but their tone and words are rude. When the women in training was confused none of the other women were in a hurry to help her (they were chatting with each other). True customer service is actually wanting to help, not standing around pretending to want to help. There is another eye doctor on purchase street and Greenwich Optical shop (same prices as Rye EYE Care) has an amazing staff, from the receptionist to the doctors. I have been going to Rye Eye Care for years and have finally given up and will have to go elsewhere. I just tried to change my appointment and got a telling off from the front desk for not updating my contact information with them. They did have my home phone number and I was actually returning that call but didn't even get a chance to explain. Sometimes things do change and since I can only do Saturday appointments the last minute change was unfortunate. Very poor customer service and follows on from a pretty painful encounter with the front desk staff when I made the original appointment. What a shame as both doctors are great. read more

I have been going to Rye Eye Care for a long time, maybe 10 years. I LOVE Dr. Bloom. He is smart, professional, knowledgeable, thorough, NICE, and willing to show me all sorts of cool things about my eyes. I actually look forward to my eye appointments. I think he likes having state of the art equipment, too - every time I go there is a new machine. The only reason I wouldn't give them a 5 is the same reason other people gave - the glasses are expensive. This is Rye, where people don't blink at paying $200 for a pair of jeans, so maybe a lot of people don't care about the price if they want a fashionable pair of specs. But I'm not sure I'd buy my next pair of glasses there. Oh heck, I might - I actually really like the ones I have from there. read more

What a wonderful selection of frames and prices. Upon stepping out of bed yesterday I landed on my only pair of distance glasses, and broke the stem. I will be going out of town and must have glasses. Susan(the glasses genie) spent 45 minutes working on a solution. After calling the manufacturer to no avail she was able to find a stem and connection that fit. They are not many businesses that would give a customer this amount of time. read more

I have had the worst experience here! I called over a month ago to schedule an appt on a Friday - my only day off and the only day I can make appts. After weeks of calling to confirm this works and NEVER receiving confirmation back, I called today for them to tell me that they in fact cannot see my on Fridays. I am a medical professional who had been a client of Rye Eye Care for at least 20 years. They got more and more arrogant over the years but I tolerated it as they were nearby. Last September my daughter went for an exam with check in hand. She paid the bill in full. Nine months later she started getting bills with overdue notices. She called and told them to send an itemized bill as we did not recall the visit and got nowhere. She was also insured at the time. Instead the bills kept coming and the letters got nastier. I finally sent them a check along with an added amount for all "added work" they claimed we were causing them. What a shock to discover that not only was the bill paid in full at the time of the visit but they cashed it immediately. They continue to be holier than thou and they have lost 3 clients in the process. Not one word of apology. They returned the additional check in an envelope without so much as a so sorry for the mix up. They are prohibitively expensive and obviously their billing practices are not entirely on the up and up. I come from a family of medical practitioners and know first hand how billing is handled as well as the proper way to deal with patients. I would never recommend this business. Ever read more

What a disappointment! I made appointments at Rye Eye Care because I expected the quality of service in Rye to be exceptional. Boy was I wrong! First, they automatically charge you for a 'picture' of your eye; which costs $40. I knew this before it happened and I was okay with that. The doctor had bad breath and I grossed me out. Take two steps back or take a tick tac, geez What really made me angry was that after the exam, the girl that was supposed to help me find frames and schedule an appointment, was horrible. She was very unhelpful. She kept showing me frames that were well above what I wanted to pay...I told her my limit. Then she said that my insurance required special lenses which cost $75. I went to another eye doctors office and my lenses only cost $20. Where does that $55 go...their pocket?! She also did not schedule the appointment the doctor asked her to schedule which is fine because there is NO WAY I am going back to that place! I know I was foolish for expecting a certain standard in Rye, NY but all I found out is there con-artists everywhere. read more

I don't recommend this place at all. 1)You are told that you are going to be seen by "doctor" and they book you with an OD. 2) read the paperwork they give you carefully. Whether you are coming in for a contact lens exam or a fame exam they will do both, even if you specify that you do NOT want both done so they can double charge you and the insurance. I argued with the office manager that they charged me for a test I did NOT want but she was unapologetic and basically untruthful. The place in unethical and I filed a complaint with VSP and my company's health and vision coverage advocate to have them removed as a provider. I think they are not doing well financially but that is no excuse for defrauding clients. I should have known better when a woman was arguing with the front desk when I checked in! 3) they have limited frames. They claim to be David Yurman providers but their collection was limited but they promise to order others online when I sat down to find to look at other frames she was not even able to find the website!
