I get a great friendly yet harsh sense of your average Long Island, NY attitude everytime I come here. The frequent patrons make their orders simple and quick while the out of towners take their time and need to converse back and forth a few times to get what one wants. I usually get a deli sandwich here made from the fantastic meat that is Boar's Head and they deliver a quality organization of bread, cheese, and condiments to surround the fancy meat. This is a relatively new deli and being from the neighborhood, I like to see independent / small business thrive in my town. I don't know weather to give this place 3 or 4 stars. I'm going with 4 stars. I have been to this bagel shop 5 or 6 times. Do not be fooled by the bagel sign I will explain later in the review Location. It is a small bagel store. They are off of central ave in bethpage and are open 7 days a week from 4am-7pm. Food. They have a good selection of food for lunch. They have homemade soups like sweet potato and kale, chicken noodle and chicken florentine. They have Paninis with turkey spinach fresh mozzarella and walnuts. They have wraps and salads and this thing called a Italian quesadilla fried eggplant red peppers mozzarella and ricotta with marinara sauce. I have no idea if this place is a bagel shop a Italian place or a tex me place. From the outside it says bagels on the inside are all of these crazy sandwiches. Very confusing. They do get crowded around lunch time that is my only negative. Overall. It's a nice place for lunch. Not the best not the worst. I do recommend stopping here if you want to try one of these crazy sandwiches. I truly loved this deli, but it's heartbreaking to see how the employees are treated by the manager. Whenever I come in there the manager is degrading and belittling the employees and today she did it to me. As I was giving my sandwich order I noticed she wasn't writing down what I was getting, which made me hesitant, so I paused. Then, she grabbed a paper and began writing. Instead of saying "Can you repeat that please?" She said, "Well you were stuttering and not speaking correctly..." Who in the world says that to a customer? I have come there for years and paid the astronomical prices without hesitation, but today was enough! Then when my omelette was done (which by the way wasn't an omelette she didn't understand why I was confused when she asked how I wanted my eggs... IT IS AN OMELETTE... my boyfriend got scrambled eggs with melted cheese from the microwave and random ham slices on top), she goes "Ok girl not paying attention on her phone your eggs are done!" Great place! Sandwiches, bagels, eggs are all delicious! The staff is really nice also! Try their fresh baked cookies!! They also have hot food which looks great but I haven't tried. One star is harsh, but this place gets worse and worse every time I come here. This used to be my deli spot sometime back but I am extremely turned off by this place now. I've ordered grilled chicken in wraps and the chicken tastes like refrigerator and was the color gray. Gray chicken. The macaroni and cheese I ordered last week was SOUR. I took one bite and nearly threw up how can you serve this crap to people. The mayo on my sandwich was also sour today. Went here today, sadly not my first time, but will be my last. The service was horrendous, after being on hold for over 15 mins on the phone I walked into the location to place my order, and was snubbed by the young lady behind the counter, who was in no rush to help anyone. Nobody seemed phased at all that we left without placing or picking up an order, don't see any reason to return. Their attitude is horrible. There is one lady that answers the phone and she is so nasty and never gets the order 100% correct. Pretends to know everything. Says she is the one in charge. (Very annoying) Other than that the food is fresh. It is a Good place to eat if you have time To check your order before you take it home. 5x out of 10 something will be missing from a sandwich or they will charge u for the wrong item. This review has nothing to do with the food or the service per se. I agree with other reviews, breakfast is the way to go, lunch is overpriced. I've never had a problem with food quality or portion size. My issue is the attitude of the owner (who I've noticed runs the place like a prison warden). Just this morning I noticed the flag was not lowered to half staff out of respect for two officers who were killed in the line of duty. I mentioned it to her nicely and got this half cracked smirk of a smile and she asked "why" when I said she should see if one of the guys could lower the flag out of respect. I mentioned that the local PD who frequents the place would appreciate it and its a small sign of respect for two men who died in the line of duty. Her answer was some nonsense about she lives in Brooklyn where these cops were killed and it would be nice if someone did something nice for the neighborhood for a change and blah, blah. I was so enraged I ignored her completely. I can't even say what it was she said to be honest I wasn't listening. Lower your flag and show a little respect because if something happens at your business or home the first thing you'll do is call for a police officer to save your butt. I have been going here for a few years but I will never go back. Breakfast is simple enough to not mess up so my egg sandwiches were always fine. My biggest complaint is with the attitude of the workers. Many (not all) of them should take a basic course in customer service. They are too rough with customers. Ordered a chicken culet sandwich and it was not good at all... Chicken cutlet was to thick and tasted fatty. My buddy ordered a roast beef sandwich which just looked like they sliced up the cow in the back and served it off the knife. Central Ave Deli is pretty close to my job, but that's pretty much the only reason I would stop in for lunch. The food is mediocre at best, honestly. Their chopped salad bar is seriously lacking in ingredients & because it's priced by pound depending on who's chopping your salad the price varies significantly. Additionally I often question the freshness of their vegetables as they're almost always wilting (and/or brown). Their breakfast is bland - particularly the home fries..have they heard of salt? To add insult to injury the woman who answers the phone in the morning (petite, brown haired Hispanic woman) is extremely rude. Do me a favor & get another job if you hate yours, toots. read more

Absolutely the best deli on Long Island! Everything they have if delicious! I come here every Sunday with my ambulance crew and it has become a tradition. Food is really good, but the service is slower than most places. I also find it always seems to be a different price depending on who rings it up. I've paI'd anywhere from $8 to just under $11 for the same sandwich. Also, never place phone orders. This is the THIRD time in the past year I have been ignored for over 10 minutes with more than one man behind the counter. When i finally did give my order of two basic turkey sandwiches it took 15 minutes to make. Yes...15 minutes. The reason, the man who took my order was too busy talking to another worker and just stared into space for a while. Four people were waited on during my time there and left. If you can, try to avoid ordering from this deli. We order on Saturday's and have someone pick it up, because they don't deliver on the weekends. When our order gets here. We always have a problem. The toast is burnt, with no butter. The sandwiches are soggy. The home fries are hard as hell, with no taste, the same with the scrambled eggs. NO TASTE. Came all the way from Orlando Florida to visit friends in Holtsville. First stop after landing at Islip was a 28 mile trip to the central Ave deli. Food was great service was was quick for food that had to be prepared. Prices were reasonable (hey if you want a five dollar lunch you need to run over to McDonald's for assembly line burgers.) cleanliness is good. Have absolutely nothing bad to say about the place. Nasty dismissive people working here. Counter people never get the order right. Checkout girls need a lesson on how to treat people and not stand around talking to each when you are trying to pay. Terrible customer service!! Multiple times I went there for breakfast to get a whole wheat everything bagel with cream cheese only to come home & find out they gave me the wrong bagel. I can understand waiting on a busy weekend morning but when I come in for soup in the early afternoon with no customers there and everyone just hanging out behind the counter ignoring me, then I have a problem. I patiently waited 15 minutes before I just walked out. I called to speak to the manager following my experience and he argued with me basically saying that's not the case there and they never get any negative feedback. I told him I've had many bad experiences there and they have now lost a really great customer and he said okay bye and hung up on me. Thanks a lot for caring about your customers and for not making things right. I'll make sure to let my friends and family know if they are looking for a great deli to not go to this one unless they want to be as disappointed as I was. read more
