I liked how light the pieces are and not super oily. On another day, I tried the matcha parfait. I was worried that it might be too sweet. Fortunately, the sweetness wasn't overwhelming for me. The matcha ice cream had a great matcha flavor and the red bean paste filled castella bites were also yummy as well.

I have been a regular at this establishment for close to a year. When I first started coming here…read morethe food was decent and the experience was acceptable. Over time that changed and I feel it is important to share my experience so others can make an informed decision. The birria is the most popular meat on the menu but it runs out consistently and lacks flavor. The pastor is dry and unreliable. The steak is not something I would recommend to anyone. On multiple occasions the food did not taste fresh and the ingredients including the onions did not appear to be from that day. If I had to recommend anything it would only be the shrimp tacos. The prices are not justified by the quality or portions being served. For what you receive the pricing is excessive. Communication is also a challenge at this location. Most of the staff speaks Spanish only and there are very few English speaking employees. For customers who do not speak Spanish this creates a frustrating experience. My deciding factor was a simple phone call. I am a regular and the owner has always been aware that I request no hot sauce on my pastor burrito. I called ahead as I always have to make this request. The owner refused to remake the burrito and directed me to use the third party app. There is no way to add special notes through that platform for this request and this has never been an issue before. That interaction as a loyal customer was unacceptable. Additionally if you order through DoorDash please be aware that if they do not have the meat you requested they will substitute it with a different meat without notifying you first. This is a serious concern especially for customers with allergies or dietary restrictions. You will then have to go through the third party platform to request a refund for an order you did not ask for. A restaurant should always communicate with the customer before making substitutions. This is a major red flag and something every customer should know before ordering. This restaurant also used to serve fresh homemade style burgers that were genuinely good. At some point they made the switch to frozen burgers which was a noticeable drop in quality. Two stars because there was a time this place had potential. That time has passed. Between the food quality decline, language barrier, overpricing and poor customer treatment I will not be returning. I do not recommend Gustavo's Mexican Grill at this time.
