    I found their pricing better than the American companies I am used to and checked out. Edinburgh pickup and drop-off could have been easier, but that was mainly because I was unfamiliar with the airport and town. We got what felt like a brand-new vehicle, though, so we were very happy once we got on the road. I will rent from them again on our next trip.

We were tricked into buying an expensive upgrade by lies about road conditions in the highlands and the insistence that we needed a bigger car for our own safety on these difficult roads. Quite the opposite, my original choice of car would have served us much better. The roads were NOT as described by the dishonest employee, not even close. Aside from the lies meant to scare us into a bigger automatic car, the 70% discount was not applied correctly (unless the price of a daily rental magically jumped 100% that day). Again, lies about how their cars regularly rent for £250/day but I can't find anything that expensive on their website, even for the busy tourist season. When I brought these issues and the general rudeness to customer service via email, I was summarily dismissed. The excuse? No one was there to witness the verbal exchange (so my account is not to be believed). If you are forced to use this company, video record all of your interactions so you have proof of mistreatment and dishonest tactics.

I picked up my rental car from the Downtown Edinburgh location on 7/23. I spoke with Giorgio at this location. He gave me multiple pieces of incorrect and confusing information. He told me that my car was not prepaid (it was booked via Chase Travel and I received a confirmation of this booking directly from Hertz and was pre-paid). I told him that I did not want any additional insurance from Hertz. He indicated that the £208 amount was for the car rental. When I returned the car on 7/25, I discovered that the £208 amount was for the insurance, which I did NOT want. Hertz refused to refund the charge even though it was their employees mistake and misrepresentation of the charge that confused me. Horrible company. Horrible service. They have lost me as a customer forever

    If I could give HERTZ in Edinburgh (near the airport) zero stars, I would. We had reserved a…read moreautomatic, mid-size car, well in advance of our trip. When we arrived, the options given were manual transmission, petrol driven or automatic, electric. While that sounds like a no-brainer, it is NOT. Since it was going to be difficult driving on the left, shifting with our left hand would make driving hazardous to everyone on the road. Reluctantly, we took the automatic, electric vehicle. The HERTZ rep showed us a map of all the EV charging stations in the UK. That map is WRONG. Over half the EV charging stations were broken. Calling the HELP number verified that the particular station we were at was scheduled to be fixed - like 2 months ago. Another 25% would not take credit cards - you needed an RFID card that cannot be picked up anywhere in the UK, it has to be mailed. So, we ended up sitting at an EV station while the car charged - easily for an hour at a time - after we'd spent more than an hour driving from station to station only to find them either broken or not accepting credit cards. This situation was worse in the Highlands and on Islay/Skye. When we found an EV station that worked, it was usually in an isolated place. No restaurants, no shops, not even a nice hiking trail. So we had to sit in the car while it charged. This took a chunk of time out of our 2 week vacation and added frustration and stress to a time we should be relaxing. HERTZ and other rental car companies in the UK need to give renters an RFID card so they can use more of the EV charging stations. We'd have been happy to pay HERTZ at the end of the trip for any EV charges if they'd had given us an RFID card. Bottom line: if renting an automatic transmission car in the UK, be prepared to sit at EV charging stations almost every day because finding one that works is like finding a piece of glass on a sandy beach. Also, having a navigator help the driver with the roundabouts - which are everywhere - is critical. The driver will be having enough trouble staying on the left but merging into and out of the roundabouts can be complex, especially if the roundabout is 3 lane deep. Good Luck!

    Security Deposit of £1,505.00 not Refunded After 3.5 months!…read more We hired a car from Green Motion Edinburgh Airport from 25 July to 3 August 2025. The car was returned undamaged on 3 August 2025. A security deposit of £1,505.00 was deducted from our credit card on 28 July 2025. This deposit has not been refunded by 15 November 2025 despite repeated requests for both refund and explanation for the delay. Green Motion have sent 2 emails on 18 August 2025 and 1 October 2025 saying the deposit will be refunded. Since then we have had no response to emails or phone calls. We are now back home in Australia and this has become very stressful and difficult to deal with given a total lack of communication and the tyranny of distance. We have been regular customers of Green Motion UK since 2018 and have never had an issue but waiting 3.5 months for a refund of a security deposit is both ridiculous and unacceptable.

I rented and returned a car without issue only to receive notice a few days later that I'm being accused of what ultimately amounted to 1,400 GBP for damage to the vehicle. "Damage" that I might add would be considered normal wear-and-tear in any other circumstance. The evidence against me is suspect at best and in at least one instance completely fraudulent. I have photos of the damage (nicks, scratches, etc.) being present at the time of rental. A month later and half way around the world I'm still contesting. I suppose I can accept part of the blame for not checking Yelp beforehand. If I had, I probably would gone elsewhere given the number of outright negative reviews. Buyer, or renter, as it were, beware.

After calling Sixt, they promised to get back with a solution within 60 min. After 60 minutes, they told us we will get a replacement tire within 90 min. After 90 min, they told us, that they couldn't find a replacement, they will recover us and the car within the next 90 min. After again 90 min they told us they will send us a taxi in 90 min. So in total it took more than 6 hours to wait for a taxi. They did not replace the car for the next day, so we had to cancel our tee-time at a golf course with no refund. In the end they charged the full price (incl insurance) for the second day without a car! Everybody friendly but the whole system is grossly incompetent! I am using Sixt all over Europe and in the US and never had such a bad experience! Since weeks I am trying now to get my money back for the second day. No reaction! This is incredibly poor customer service! I will need a lawyer!

First when we arrived from the US and went to the agency, we found out that our reservation was canceled. Unfortunately our flight had been delayed for 3 hours. We had no way of contacting the agency as we were on a flight. They gave our confirmed rental to someone else. The agency found a van on the site and gave that t us. That is where the problems began. Initially we were advised not to utilize the left side passenger door as it was not operational. We agreed we were on with that although not ideal. We had a 7 day rental. On the 5th day while driving back from St Andrews to Edinburgh, we experienced a flat tire. Thankfully, we were near an exit and we able to pull off the road safely. We called the age and they sent out a recovery agent. This took over 3 hours. When the recovery agent arrived he informed us that this was the 3rd time this month he as our for the same vehicle. He inspected the tire and informed us that this vehicle should never have been rented out. The tire was extremely bald and extremely dangerous to drive on. At that point we decided to return the car. We had to incur the extra expense of getting back to Edinburgh by bus. Fast forward to arriving home and trying to get a refund for the two days of rental we did not use What a nightmare!!! Due to Easirent canceling our reservation, we had to pay again. DOUBLED CHARGED FOR THIS INSAFW VEHICLE. When I called to ask for the refund the manager Scott was extremely rude. I said do you realize how unsafe this vehicle was. If the tire blew out it could have caused a very bad accident injuring or Kiki g the 5 people in the vehicle as well as others around us. He did not care and tried to blame it on our use. I booked through Expedia and I initially they could not get them to change their decision. We had to contact the credit card companies to assist. We are still waiting on their reply. Today I found out they reimbursed us $270 pounds which equates to $296 US dollars. This does not even come close to what we paid for the 7 days nor the inconvenience we had to endure and the expense for the bud tickets. We asked them to reimburse us a total of $619.95 in US dollars to make us whole. They continue to refuse even-though they received that amount twice. I am posting pictures of the bald tire on the vehicle for all to see. This company DOES NOT MAINTAIN THEIR VEHICLES. RENTERS BEWARE. I had to do one star for the review but trust me it should be 0. I was taking a diabetic medicine that was causing some bathroom issues and she did an emergency stop for me and I am so grateful. I highly recommend tours to see Uk as driving on the other side of the road and a million turn about circles is terrifying so let the professionals take that stress from you. Plus they know where the cool stuff is and when to go. Our other tours in other countries the driver and guide were separate, so she gets bonus points for doing it all and to perfection. the roads are so narrow and scary but she did great. this was first time using this company but left willing to take other tours with Rabbies. She didn't say anything about tips which most do .. but bring tip money and reward exceptional service. We went on the trip with another couple and made some lovely memories. Loved going with friends even made it more special but in other trips we ended up making friends for life so either way is great. We did a stop near an ancient Village I think Vikings anyway there were some shops there where my friend bought a purse and I kicked myself for not going in there and getting one too. I thought the purse prices would be better in Edinburgh they were made with the local Fabric and real leather. When we got to Edinburgh the purses were not as well made and they were more expensive and a lot of them weren't even with real leather or made locally. The Edinburgh purse is a lot of them they use the fabric woven there but they made them out of the country probably China or India. Anyway I that is my biggest regret of the trip that I didn't buy an Islander purse. Now I'm going to have to see if I can buy one online and it'll be a lot more money. So if you go to the Isle of sky and you want a bag or a purse you might want to keep that in mind. My friend bought one that was more large than what I would have wanted but it was around a hundred and some dollars great price for the quality. It's well known that the UK is not known for its great weather. Lots of rain and can be very windy around the cliffs and water. I bought vessie shoes which are waterproof and comfortable but kind of expensive. I also took a raincoat with a hood and a hat with a brim and a chin strap because the wind around the cliffs is real. This hat is especially nice because it has a mesh netting that you can unclip in case you're getting in a buggy area which around the ferry pools we needed. If you don't need the netting you can just clip it back up and so it's really handy. The UK and pretty much most of Europe we find that they like twin beds in the hotels and especially the b&bs. I guess people don't like each other lol and want to sleep together. So we would call ahead and ask that they push the beds together before we get there if that was the case. They also don't seem to have air conditioning screens on the windows or sheets on the beds?? Sometimes places will have fans so it's worth asking or calling ahead to see if you can reserve a fan because they definitely don't have enough fans for every room. If you stay in a US-based hotel like a Hilton or Marriott Holiday Inn you don't have to deal with this as much but I guess it's just common in Europe. Traveling through the summer or heat wave months this can be a bit of a problem. The bed seemed all have these duvets which is great if it's cold out but when it's too warm it's a bit uncomfortable. Since we were roasting we had to open the window didn't love that there was no screen and a lot of the windows are made to where you can only open them about an inch so it doesn't provide much air. This was the case through all of the UK not just the Isle of Skye.
