We've had excellent lunches at Cedar Mountain Cafe every single time. Reasonable prices for good size portions of quality food. While we've always had friendly service if you go on the weekend at lunch time they are busy, it will require a little patience on your part, those ladies are busy bees and doing their best. Try to remember you're in the mountains in the South, enjoy your time there, your food will be delicious when it arrives. Patio seating is a nice option during pleasant weather. read more

My husband & I first visited for breakfast in March 2022, when my brother & his wife stopped on their way to a beach on the Carolina Coast. I'm sorry it took so long to go back, but this time, I took photos! So it's a Wednesday morning in June 2023, and at least one of the two servers was there last March, so that's good to see. We were greeted right away and seated, and I asked for water and coffee. Our server told me the coffee was from The Brown Bean, a local coffee roaster in Brevard, NC. It was flavorful! I usually have to add sweetened creamer and lots of sugar, but this coffee was smooth and only needed a little half & half and sugar, for my taste. I ordered the Country Fried Chicken breakfast, which included a biscuit, split in half, topped with sausage gravy, and two eggs cooked to order. I got scrambled eggs. This dish filled the plate! A generous portion of gravy, which did not taste greasy or heavy; the breading on the chicken was slightly crispy, but not too thick, and it was seasoned well. The chicken was juicy, not at all dry, which is the case with some country fried chicken meals. My husband ordered an omelet with ham & cheese. I forgot to take a picture of the back of the menu, but I think it was called The American Omelet. It was of considerable size, and he ordered diced potatoes as his side. I think the other choice was grits. He chose a biscuit as his bread offering. He got orange juice and water. On this visit, I noticed that they have more parking along the side of the building and around the back. There is also outside seating, with a small waterfall fountain! Amazing service and food! If you love Arnold Palmers, ask for one! My boyfriend was raving about them and how it was the best he'd ever had. The unsweetened tea was refreshing and served in a cute mason jar. All of the food was outstanding! I recommend trying one of the burger options. The burger with jalapeños wasn't too spicy so don't let that scare you! The pickled red onions were a nice compliment with the goat cheese. The bacon on the burger was crispy, my favorite. Love that side salads and fruit are side options at no additional cost. Parking is kinda tight but we were able to find a spot to parallel park. Patio is adorable and quaint with umbrellas if you need shade from the sun. Awesome little cafe if you're hiking at DuPont or in the area. read more

We stopped for lunch today after visiting the Pretty Place chapel. I have to say I didn't know what to expect, but I am definitely glad we gave this gem a try. Everyone's food was fresh and delicious. We ordered the soup of the day and some sandwiches and finished off with amazing desserts. The kids menu is varied and very reasonably priced. All of the staff were friendly and helpful, and the dining room and bathrooms were very clean. Atmosphere was cute I just wish they had better seating for people bringing their dogs since it's close to a lot of good hiking places. This place is a hidden gem located amid the DuPont state forest trails, perfect for a place to rest the legs and peruse newly taken pictures of waterfalls. I had the veggie burger, made in-house and one of the best I've had, with sweet potato (waffle) fries. Wife had a Cobb salad, which she also loved, and the sweet potato fries. About those sweet potato fries: epic. Ridiculously good. Only ones I can compare them to were at a place outside Sun Valley, Idaho, that I haven't been to in years. Our lunch was so good we seriously considered extending our trip an extra day just so we could go back. Fully staffed, too, so they get all the leaf-peepers in and out with a minimum of waiting and plenty of good cheer. Not fancy or pretentious, just very, very good. read more

Excellent breakfast with the family. The outdoors area was full, but the inside was great too! There is a beautiful little waterfall outside, if you do get the chance. The indoors was busy, but staff were friendly and attentive. They kept our coffee hot and food was all as we requested. This restaurant does not look like much from the outside but, when you get inside it is so cute! It has inside and outside dining. The servers were very efficient and offered great service even though they were very busy. I had an omelet with Granny Smith apples, bacon, and brie cheese which was very delicious! I went out on a limb and tried the "fried grits". They were absolutely wonderful! My husband had the American omelet and a pancake. Both were very good! Really cool spot next to the hiking trail we took off on this past memorial day weekend. We got there at 8:06 and got one of the last tables available. They open at 8. Good timing I guess. My wife and I both ordered the breakfast wrap as to just have something small and fulfilling. It was exactly what we were looking for. Try the potatoes. We got them inside of our wrap as part of the ingredients that come with it but I could tell they were packed with flavor and would have been delicious to get as a side. We ordered fruit cups as sides which were good and seemed fresh so no complaints. I would recommend giving it a try if you are ever in the Transylvania area of North Carolina. I have eaten here before many times. I encountered the manager/owner on my visit. If I could have given zero stars I would have. She has the worst attitude I have ever seen! I went in late Sunday with a guest. There were 2-4 top tables open. I asked for one she was rude and nasty. She told me she had to save them for 4-people! There were 2 other people sitting at 4-top tables. Perhaps it was my out of town cologne! Within 30 minutes there were 5-4 tops with no one there! The food was cold sweet potato fries and the hamburger burned! I ordered it medium rare. The service was excellent and they were apologetic for the nasty owner/manager. Stopped here to get sandwiches to take with us hiking, then saw they were dog friendly outdoors and decided to stay and eat. Sweet spicy chicken wrap, ham and cheese panini with grilled onions, potato salad and pasta salad were all excellent but the standout was the amazing homemade veggie burger made with black beans and sweet potato.
