Very nice ambiance. Waiter was good. Went to Sunday Easter Brunch. The food was marginal at best. It was priced at 60$ + auto 20% gratuitie and tax $76.02. The tomato bisque soup was just average. They gave us some kind of cheesy roll ( 1) that was good. My salmon , an average size piece had no taste and wasn't very fresh. I had 2 small carrots and a tablespoon of spinach with the salmon, exact measurements. Dessert was offered, I didn't partake. No potatoes or salad. I ordered a Bloody Mary cocktail. It had so much tobasco sauce in it, I couldn't drink it. I let my friend taste it, she agreed. Overall quite disappointing. I wouldn't go there on a holiday a 2nd time. I was still hungry when I got home. read more

The Inn sits on the side of a mountain. The outdoor patio was built four years ago. Looks like it should have been there since the beginning. 1926. Walking into the Inn feels like walking into a Time Machine. Old. Cozy. Our table was on the patio. Looking at mountains 30-50 miles away. Into South Carolina. Spectacular views. The brunch was great. Fixed price of $45 is more than fair. Steak tartare. Shrimp and grits. Chocolate cake. Everything was excellent. Waiters and waitresses could not have been nicer. So far. It's my favorite restaurant in the area. About 45 mins from downtown Asheville. I'll be back soon. read more

Excellent venue for a special dinner! Beautiful, old building with a wonderful view. Dinner is a fixed price menu with numerous options for each course. Sufficient variety to make everyone happy. Expensive, but reasonable for this kind of quality. Everything on the menu has great creativity. The only negative is the lack of parking. It didn't bother any of us that a rather large cat strolled around, but if you are allergic, it's something to be aware of. read more

This is a rare gem! Great service, great ambiance, great food. It's in a bed and breakfast, but offers a great prix fix dinner menu with excellent options. We sampled everything on the February menu (except the apple butter ice cream) and there was not a single bad thing in the bunch. Personal favorites were the Brie, beet and coconut soup, risotto, and beef tenderloin. The sea bass was excellent, with perfectly cooked sides. The lamb was also extremely tender and flavorful. I almost gave it a ding saying that the chocolate mousse for dessert was frozen but then mom reminded me that's how it is described- more like a supplemental ice cream to the cake. It was also delicious. They also have espresso based drinks for dessert. Not one bad thing to say. Can't wait to come back in the summer to be able to see landscape. read more

Last night my wife and I went with a group to one of the Dicken's Dinners - where there is dinner served along with an actor reading selections from a Christmas Carol. All would have probably been OK but they evidently had oversold the event and my wife and I got crammed at the end of a table, in a space meant for one, on tiny rickety chairs that creaked and moaned with every movement, such I thought they were going to collapse at any moment. They were so hard and uncomfortable that I had to get up and walk around several times. As usual, once something starts bad, it generally doesn't get better and such was the case here. Courses were brought on plates that size of hubcaps, with a couple tablespoons of food, such we were constantly rearranging plates, glasses, and utensils in the tiny space were granted, so the plates could be put on the table. They brought the wrong desserts, plopped them down on the table and then scampered away. By that time I was in no mood to make any more compromises, but it took several minutes for me to collar a server and get the right dessert. Then coffee was ordered for all, brought for one, and the rest of the coffee brought about 10 minutes later after one of the reading selections was completed. Then, when it was over and all we wanted to do was pay the very large bill get out of there, it took 20 - 30 minutes for them to distribute the checks and process credit cards through their antiquated system. I will say the food was very good. As I said, if we had just been given the seats we paid for, the other stuff would have been tolerated and I wouldn't be writing this review. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, and the evening we had been looking forward to for a quite a while turned into a disappointment. read more

As a rule, I use superlatives sparingly; having said that..... Wow! for the cuisine! Wow! for the setting ( actually the setting deserves a Wow-Wow!) Wow! for the service! There is absolutely no better way to welcome the Spring in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains than the spectacular views from your dinner table at Newman's at The Orchard Inn! I am a chef by training, and a "foodie" by heart! I have dined in fine restaurants on three continents, and have enjoyed some really fabulous presentations by many talented chefs. Executive Chef Stuart Partin easily ranks among the best I've ever seen; he is passionately creative in his pairings and presentations, always "pushing the envelope" but never at the expense of the foods' true flavor. "Slow Food" advocates/devotees will appreciate this young chef's attention to detail and the excellence he achieves in showcasing the very best farm-to-table cuisine the region has to offer. I never miss an opportunity introduce family and friends to this hidden gem in our little corner of heaven! read more

Had the pleasure of dining here while a guest at the Orchard Inn. Marc and Marianne are fabulous! The food at Newman's is fresh, delicious, and unique. The menu is fixed price and four courses. From the salad to dessert, I enjoyed every bite. The salad and smoked fish was fabulous. The lemon cake dessert was so light yet flavorful. The service is top notch. The dining area of this historic inn is an enclosed porch with a great mountain view. We enjoyed a great 4 course meal . Each course was served at precisely the right time and was cooked to perfection. Diners are offered 3 or 4 choices for each course. and the menu is posted on their web site. My wife and I selected and shared different dishes. It was difficult to decide which were best. I especially enjoyed the unique Crab Roe Soup. My wife found the Pickled Strawberries delightful. With my hearing difficulty, I was overjoyed to be able to converse in the quite dining room. read more

Our party celebrated a birthday at brunch today. The staff recognized the special day with some very nice touches, a balloon at the table and an inscription on the dessert plate. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, starting with a scrumptious popover. The Short Rib Cannelloni and Mushroom Ragout were flavorfully cooked, as was the Halibut and Parsnip Saffron Soufflé entree. The Coconut Trifecta for dessert was perfect, not too sweet, just right. Kudos to the excellent chef ! The ambience was also lovely, we were able to watch a variety of birds feeding while enjoying beautiful long range views of the mountains. It is without a doubt the best meal and dining experience we have had since moving to this area and we will be returning. read more

This restaurant is the dining area of a bed a breakfast nestled in the Saluda mountains. It's very private. When you enter there is a piano and gourmet appetizers await you. There is a beautiful outdoor deck where you can wait for your table while sipping a glass of wine. It is shaded with beautiful trees and flowers. The actual dining tables line an enclosed deck with windows that can be opened overlooking several bird feeders, flower gardens and a mountain range. That in itself is worth a visit. However words cannot describe the food. We had 4 courses and each exquisite plate outdid the last. I took half my dinner home so I could eat dessert. It was amazing! At the time of this review the 4 courses were $55/pp. Well worth it! Reservations are a MUST! I live 1 1/2 hours away yet would LOVE to escape to the bed & breakfast on a regular basis.
